Yes, there, in the bay where Eranna fell … a black shape within the water. The form of stark, black robes wafting on the tide, the reach of cold, dead, white fingers through the water.
They breach the surface, the green veins of a hideous venom showing through the tortured skin. It reaches forth, grasping the land, followed by another. The hands cling, fighting for purchase, the black fingernails digging into the soil.
A face appears—hollowed eyes, sunken cheeks, and lips that have been kissed by death.
It leaves the water, this horrid, foul thing, crawling across the grass.
Gazing down at its hands, it gasps, then reaches up toward its face. It feels the hollows that have been made of its cheekbones, the sharp jutting of its jaw and chin … and it throws back its head and screams, an unearthly sound, a haunting melody.
It is true, my friend. I have seen it with my own eyes.
The dark queen rises.

I want to thank you for your patience. The stretch of time between books 3 and 4 in this series was much longer than I usually like to take to churn out the next book in a series.
