The Doctor's Devotion, page 7
“The people you love?” I ask.
Lila smiles up at me as she raises her free hand and rests it on my cheek. I close my eyes and turn my head to briefly nuzzle her warm palm. With a contented sigh, I open my eyes and she speaks the words I long to hear.
“I love you, Nolan.”
I swoop down for a kiss, desperate to show her the effect she has on me. She surprises me by nipping at my bottom lip which sends shivers down my spine. I groan low in the back of my throat.
Kissing Lila is quickly becoming my new addiction. I'm like a drowning man, and she is my oxygen. I let go of her hand so both of my hands are free to roam over her back and down her arms, every inch I can reach. My fingers dance across the soft skin of her shoulders, leaving gooseflesh in their wake, and she shudders in my embrace.
I'm utterly devoted to this woman. Thank you, Lord, for bringing her into my life.
We separate, mere centimeters between us as we catch our breath. I rest our foreheads together as our chests heave. I know I will never forget this moment as long as I live.
“I love you, Lila," I whisper against her lips.
She drags me forward for another kiss. I can’t help but smile into it, knowing it’s only a taste of what’s to come.
