The Gunslinger
Part #1 of "The Dark Tower" series by Stephen King
Horror / Mystery / Literature & Fiction
Beginning with a short story appearing in *The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction* in 1978, the publication of Stephen King's epic work of fantasy -- what he considers to be a single long novel and his magnum opus -- has spanned a quarter of a century.
Set in a world of extraordinary circumstances, filled with stunning visual imagery and unforgettable characters, *The Dark Tower* series is King's most visionary feat of storytelling, a magical mix of science fiction, fantasy, and horror that may well be his crowning achievement.
**Book I**
In *The Gunslinger* (originally published in 1982), King introduces his most enigmatic hero, Roland Deschain of Gilead, the Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting, solitary figure at first, on a mysterious quest through a desolate world that eerily mirrors our own. Pursuing the man in black, an evil being who can bring the dead back to life, Roland is a good man who seems to leave nothing but death in his wake.
This new edition of *The Gunslinger* has been revised and expanded throughout by King, with new story material, in addition to a new introduction and foreword. It also includes four full-color illustrations in the hardcover and trade paperback formats.
The Drawing of the Three
Part #2 of "The Dark Tower" series by Stephen King
Horror / Mystery / Literature & Fiction
In 1978, Stephen King introduced the world to the last gunslinger, Roland of Gilead. Nothing has been the same since. More than twenty years later, the quest for the Dark Tower continues to take readers on a wildly epic ride. Through parallel worlds and across time, Roland must brave desolate wastelands and endless deserts, drifting into the unimaginable and the familiar. A classic tale of colossal scope—crossing over terrain from *The Stand*, *The Eyes of the Dragon*, *Insomnia*, *The Talisman*, *Black House*, *Hearts in Atlantis*, *’Salem’s Lot*, and other familiar King haunts—the adventure takes hold with the turn of each page.
And the tower awaits....
**The Second Volume in the Epic Dark Tower Series…
The Drawing of the Three**
While pursuing his quest for the Dark Tower through a world that is a nightmarishly distorted mirror image of our own, Roland is drawn through a mysterious door that brings him into contemporary America.
Here he links forces with the defiant young Eddie Dean, and with the beautiful, brilliant, and brave Odetta Holmes, in a savage struggle against underworld evil and otherworldly enemies.
Once again, Stephen King has masterfully interwoven dark, evocative fantasy and icy realism.

Babel Tower
Part #3 of "The Frederica Quartet" series by A. S. Byatt
Literature & Fiction / Nonfiction
The Booker Prize-winning author of Possession presents a stunning, contemporary story set against the clashing politics, passionate ideals, and shifting sexual roles of the early 1960s. In Byatt's vision, the presiding genius of the day seems to be a blend of the Marquis de Sade and The Hobbit. Peopled with weird and colorful characters, charted with brilliant, imaginative sympathy, Babel Tower is as comic as it is threatening and bizarre.
Insatiable Bachelor
Part #1 of "Bachelor Tower" series by Ruth Cardello
Romance / Contemporary
A brand new series set in a whole new world.
Dalton: Women are a perk of my lifestyle. I work hard. I deserve to play harder. But I didn’t get on the Forbes List of Rising Entrepreneurs by getting lost in the baggage and disruption that comes with dating. I’ve seen dozens of men fail when they fall in love. Pathetic.
That's why I chose the Bachelor Tower. It was designed by a genius, my hero: the late, Garry F. Sinclair. He created an all-male haven for ambitious men who want to live like kings and play by their own rules. Casino nights, a fully equipped gym and lap pool, cigar and Scotch bar, and a media room with screens the size of the average movie theater. The list is endless. I easily network with men trying to launch their careers or those at the top who want to stay hungry. The best part: the tower attracts women, beautiful women who hang out in the lobby bar and vie for an invite upstairs. Easy, like fishing in a barrel.
Until Sinclair dies and Penny Fuller moves into the apartment next to me because the new owner doesn't share his vision.
Everyone agrees Penny can't stay. I don't want to get involved, but she doesn't understand the lengths my fellow building mates will go to to get her out. She's not only irresistibly sexy and painfully optimistic, she's also in real danger.
Siding with her would be career suicide.
Betraying her was never my intention.
Princes in the Tower
Alison Weir
History / Literature & Fiction
"A SURPRISINGLY FRESH AND TREMENDOUSLY THOROUGH CONTRIBUTION to the debate...Weir's book is, no doubt, not the last on this subject, but it might be the best....[She] constructs a devastating case...[and] brilliantly illuminates the nature of late-medieval political power." --The Boston Globe Despite five centuries of investigation by historians, the sinister deaths of the boy king Edward V and his younger brother Richard, Duke of York, remain two of the most fascinating murder mysteries in English history. Did Richard III really kill "the Princes in the Tower," as is commonly believed, or was the murderer someone else entirely? Carefully examining every shred of contemporary evidence as well as dozens of modern accounts, English historian Alison Weir reconstructs the entire chain of events leading to the double murder. We are witnesses to the rivalry, ambition, intrigue, and struggle for power that culminated in the imprisonment of the prince and the hushed-up murders that secured Richard's claim to the throne as Richard III. A masterpiece of historical research and a riveting story of conspiracy and deception, The Princes in the Tower at last provides a solution to this age-old puzzle. "Weir takes on this delicious mystery with a fearsome vengeance. The result is a fascinating and completely credible account." --Milwaukee Journal "Did Richard III do in his nephews or didn't he? How much of the evil-uncle legend was later Tudor propaganda and how much was true?...This is exciting reading." --The Denver Post "A fascinating historical whodunit in which truth is more sordid than fiction." --Kirkus Reviews A MAIN SELECTION OF THE BOOK-OF-THE-MONTH CLUB

The Lady in the Tower: The Fall of Anne Boleyn
Alison Weir
History / Literature & Fiction
Nearly five hundred years after her violent death, Anne Boleyn, second wife to Henry VIII, remains one of the world's most fascinating, controversial, and tragic heroines. Now acclaimed historian and bestselling author Alison Weir has drawn on myriad sources from the Tudor era to give us the first book that examines, in unprecedented depth, the gripping, dark, and chilling story of Anne Boleyn's final days. The tempestuous love affair between Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn scandalized Christendom and altered forever the religious landscape of England. Anne's ascent from private gentlewoman to queen was astonishing, but equally compelling was her shockingly swift downfall. Charged with high treason and imprisoned in the Tower of London in May 1536, Anne met her terrible end all the while protesting her innocence. There remains, however, much mystery surrounding the queen's arrest and the events leading up to it: Were charges against her fabricated because she stood in the way of Henry VIII making a third marriage and siring an heir, or was she the victim of a more complex plot fueled by court politics and deadly rivalry? The Lady in the Tower examines in engrossing detail the motives and intrigues of those who helped to seal the queen's fate. Weir unravels the tragic tale of Anne's fall, from her miscarriage of the son who would have saved her to the horrors of her incarceration and that final, dramatic scene on the scaffold. What emerges is an extraordinary portrayal of a woman of great courage whose enemies were bent on utterly destroying her, and who was tested to the extreme by the terrible plight in which she found herself. Richly researched and utterly captivating, The Lady in the Tower presents the full array of evidence of Anne Boleyn's guilt—or innocence. Only in Alison Weir's capable hands can readers learn the truth about the fate of one of the most influential and important women in English history.

The Wind Through the Keyhole
Part #4.50 of "The Dark Tower" series by Stephen King
Horror / Mystery / Literature & Fiction
Stephen King returns to the rich landscape of Mid-World, the spectacular territory of the Dark Tower fantasy saga that stands as his most beguiling achievement.
Roland Deschain and his ka-tet*—*Jake, Susannah, Eddie, and Oy, the billy-bumbler—encounter a ferocious storm just after crossing the River Whye on their way to the Outer Baronies. As they shelter from the howling gale, Roland tells his friends not just one strange story but two . . . and in so doing, casts new light on his own troubled past.
In his early days as a gunslinger, in the guilt-ridden year following his mother’s death, Roland is sent by his father to investigate evidence of a murderous shape-shifter, a “skin-man” preying upon the population around Debaria. Roland takes charge of Bill Streeter, the brave but terrified boy who is the sole surviving witness to the beast’s most recent slaughter. Only a teenager himself, Roland calms the boy and prepares him for the following day’s trials by reciting a story from the *Magic Tales of the Eld *that his mother often read to him at bedtime. “A person’s never too old for stories,” Roland says to Bill. “Man and boy, girl and woman, never too old. We live for them.” And indeed, the tale that Roland unfolds, the legend of Tim Stoutheart, is a timeless treasure for all ages, a story that lives for us.
King began the Dark Tower series in 1974; it gained momentum in the 1980s; and he brought it to a thrilling conclusion when the last three novels were published in 2003 and 2004. *The Wind Through the Keyhole *is sure to fascinate avid fans of the Dark Tower epic. But this novel also stands on its own for all readers, an enchanting and haunting journey to Roland’s world and testimony to the power of Stephen King’s storytelling magic.

Tamara Grantham, the author of THE WITCH'S TOWER, weaves the loose ends about the well-known character Rapunzel and brings forth a masterpiece. In fact, she rewrites this classic entirely. This is a tale from a different perspective: Gothel's. She is barely recognizable with new and complex characteristics embedded into her character. The plot offers so much more than the original version of this tale.
"Tamara Grantham, the author of THE WITCH'S TOWER, weaves the loose ends about the well-known character Rapunzel and brings forth a masterpiece."
One of royal blood will free the princess and kill the witch --- or so the soothsayers tell. The princess, Rapunzel, is mad from being bedridden with hair so long and heavy. The witch, Gothel, is bound to the tower, tasked with guarding Rapunzel, with a consequence of death if she does not comply, on account of her mother Aethel's past misdeeds. Her mother's actions of casting a petty curse on another's daughter has brought punishment to Gothel's life. The High Sorcerer is responsible for all these misdoings. As for the foretelling, a prince who has found and entered the enchanted tower has not stepped from its walls and his faithful squire looks to free him. The squire's name is Raj, and he needs to cut Rapunzel's hair to rid the kingdom of the High Sorcerer and save the prince from the enchantment he suffers from. He cannot do this without Gothel. Gothel understands the dangers of embarking on this journey with an unlikely partner to retrieve the golden shears to do this. She is as desperate to end the High Sorcerer's reign as Raj is.As they venture, encounters are sure to occur, yet the duo that began the expedition together remain close. Gothel cannot recognize what her feelings for Raj mean. Does she... should she love him? As she fumbles with her emotions, the High Sorcerer dispatches those loyal to him to locate Gothel. Monsters and much more lie just yonder...The setting of THE WITCH'S TOWER is certainly of a new take. Those eager to traverse through a land other than their own should see this realm fit to their expectations. This publication should have an appeal to fantasy enthusiasts as well as adventure lovers. Though some scenes were a tad too gory for my taste, most people would beg to differ.Although I am not one who typically enjoys novels with love interests, I enjoyed this book immensely. Romance danced through the pages as a young woman steps through it unsurely. She had been locked away, nearly isolated for five years after all, so the emotions are unfamiliar. The squire, Raj, was interesting as I explored his patterned dialogue. He is honorable and comforting, but is he accepting of Gothel's traits? Each character is from a completely different background, giving readers as much suspicion of them as Gothel has. I find this to be an intriguing technique because the audience will interact with details in order to form an opinion on a character's trustworthiness.Additionally, female empowerment is a defining trait of THE WITCH'S TOWER as battle calls. With wits, strength and bravery, every word of Grantham's is carefully chosen, yet set in a pleasurable order for readers who love beautiful turns of phrase. Given the cards she is dealt, Gothel fights with internal and external conflicts to bring a better future for everyone whose lives have been touched by the dark magic. ~Lucia W. (Teen Reads)

The Tower at the Edge of the World
William Heinesen
The Tower at the Edge of the World is William Heinesen's last novel written when he was 76, and is the summation of all of his work. He is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, Nordic author of the twentieth century. William Heinesen describes The Tower at the Edge of the World as a poetic mosaic novel about earliest childhood. There is the perspective of both the child and the old man looking back at his life as a child. Although there is a lot of tangible detail and recognisable characters the book has a mythic quality. The events in a small community in the windswept Atlantic ocean being recorded by the writer in his room, his tower at the edge of the world, have a larger than life feel. Torshavn and his childhood are used to tell the history of the world and of creation. 'William Heinesen was, by a long way, the best writer that the Faroe Islands have ever produced. Many have him down as the most important Scandinavian novelist of the 20th century, and he only declined...
