He pulled out the paper inside and read it aloud. “Will you marry me?”

  Sean’s chin shot up.

Warden was on one knee, holding out a ring and smiling like an idiot. “We’ll be like two cellphones getting married. The reception will be great.”

Sean shook his head. “Oh, Christ. Is that the best you could do?”

Warden shrugged. “Wedding jokes are sorely lacking. What do you say, though? Do you think you can stand me for the rest of your life?”

“Are you kidding? You could’ve just put me in the car and driven me to the closest chapel without even asking. You’ve already been my husband in my heart for as long as I can remember. There’s never been anyone but you.”

Warden blinked rapidly as he shifted forward and claimed Sean’s lips. Sean’s eyes burned. His throat swelled. He had never been happier. Sean was close to tears when Warden pulled away and slipped the ring on Sean’s finger.

  “You’re my dictionary.”

A watery chuckle escaped Sean. “For fuck’s sake.”

“You add meaning to my life.”

Sean snorted. “Okay. That one was sweet.”

  “I can go all day.”

Sean slipped from the chair. He tumbled Warden onto his back and straddled him. “Can you?” Sean didn’t bother hiding the suggestiveness in his tone.

Warden chuckled. “Well, maybe not all day after spending so many hours moving.”

  “I have faith in you.”

Warden laughed, looking happy. Sean had done that. That knowledge never got old. “I love you so much.”

Warden’s hands slid up Sean’s thighs. “I love you too. We’ll have the best marriage.”

  “I know.”

  “You’ll never be unhappy.”

  Sean smiled. “I know.”

After all, Warden was the warden of Sean’s existence. He held the keys to Sean’s happiness and kept his heart hostage. Sean couldn’t wait to be chained to him for life.

Until Warden had walked away from everything to focus solely on Sean, he hadn’t realized how unhappy he had been. He had been repressing so much. Warden had been scared to look too deeply inward. In his heart, he had known he would fall apart if he picked at the brick wall he built between his emotions and himself.

Once it was Sean and him with no other distractions, everything had changed. Sean went to therapy online. One night, Warden had agreed to join him. From there, they had started joint sessions as well as going to sessions alone. Warden was a new person. He understood so much more about himself now. There had been so much he needed to work through, and he hadn’t even realized it. Now, after just a couple of months of traveling from place to place before working on buying a house, they felt stronger than ever. Their marriage would be beautiful and filled with love.

Warden bucked, off balancing Sean so he fell forward, and Warden could taste his lips. “Mhmm.” He savored Sean’s flavor for a moment. “You know our food is getting cold.”

Sean backed away a hair. “Damn. I’d say we could heat it later, but we’re sorely lacking in kitchenware right now.”

Warden sighed. “I suppose I can wait a little longer to enjoy this sexy body.”

With a snort, Sean climbed from where he had been perched on Warden’s body. He dug through the bags of food.

  “What was that snort?”

Sean looked up from his chore. “You’re the one with the sexy body. I’m just tall and too skinny.”

  “You’re portable.”

  Sean laughed.

Warden didn’t stop. “Plus, I’m getting fat between all the restaurants and lack of gym access.”

“I think you’re perfect.” Sean didn’t look away from holding Warden’s stare. “You’re warm, beautiful, and mine. I plan to grow old with you. No doubt we’ll both change a lot over the years. I’m looking forward to doing even that with you.”

It was such a small and strange thing, but Warden felt the same. Sean’s words made him realize how truly deep their love went. It transcended their shells and radiated from their souls. Even though there were things about Sean’s exterior Warden enjoyed, he realized he didn’t even see that any longer when he looked at Sean. All he saw was their love. It was bigger than anything else.

“You’re the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me, and I don’t think I say that enough.”

  Sean beamed. “Same.”

They moved until they sat hip to hip on the floor. After a moment of rearranging their food, they ate while their feet played. They talked about nothing, but there was laughter and smiles. Warden knew the rest of their lives would be like this. He brought Sean’s left hand to his mouth and kissed the ring he had just placed there. Watching the way Sean lit from the inside at the gesture was Warden’s biggest addiction. There was no cure. He didn’t want to stop. They would spend the rest of their lives just like this. It was an absolute dream come true.
