“Why do you feel you are powerful enough to go with Brandon to Earth?” my mother asks her.
“I am strong like my mother,” Jelina tells her, but now it comes out quietly, as if she is almost intimidated by the power of my mother’s gaze.
“Your mother?” my mother says with a bit of confusion, but then she snaps her fingers. “Ah. That is right. Your mother was a very powerful Werebear. Are you saying you are a Werebear like your mother was?”
Jelina doesn’t say anything but only nods like she has lost all ability of speech. Really? Now you are getting shy, I think with a snort. I must have snorted out loud because Johanne, who is standing next to me, elbows me and then glares up at me. I smile at her sheepishly. Ooops.
“Change then, that I might see,” my mother says with a smile.
Jelina swallows hard and moves away from Lina, and suddenly there is a big ass Grizzly bear in front of me again. She is well over seven feet tall on all fours! If she were to stand up, I would say she would be a good twelve feet high. And she is massive.
“Now change into your half-hybrid form, please,” my mother says, with a big grin on her face.
Jelina looks at me first, almost hesitantly, but then changes. Instead of the grizzly bear, in front of me is now a massive Werebear half-hybrid who is over eight feet tall. Her fur is the same golden color of the grizzly bear, and again, her massive breasts show up in this form. I can’t help but gawk. Jesus fucking hell, she looks like she can probably take me on.
“Brandon?” my mother says, and that’s when I realize she had called my name once already, and this was the second time. I hear snickering from the girls.
Turning to my mother, I say, “Hmm, what?”
“I want you to change into your half-hybrid form please, and test her strength,” she tells me.
“What?” I ask her, not understanding her question.
Ok, it could be that my blood left one head and went to the other. Because I might, I think, be falling for monster girls. Even when Silvana, Lina, and Johanne are in that form, I find them hot. And Jelina in this form is really hot. Nodding to my mother, I change into my half-hybrid form, which is covered in silver fur, and while my Incubus form is still stronger and faster, I am bigger in this form. I top out at over nine feet.
I turn to Jelina, and she is now the one gawking at me in my form. As I walk up to her, she starts to get a nervous look. “Hmm. What are you?”
I smile in my form, and I am sure it looks wicked as I say, “Stronger than you.” That was clearly the right thing to say, as a determined look crosses her face.
“Fine, what do we do to show you how strong I am?” she says defiantly.
“We will interlock hands and push on each other to see who says mercy first,” I tell her, holding my hands out and waiting for her to do exactly what I said. She nods and puts her hands through my fingers. “Mother, I will let you say when to start,” I tell her, not taking my eyes off Jelina, who is doing the same to me.
“On your mark, get set, and go!” my mother says.
We get started. Jelina tries to push my hands back, but they don’t move at all. She tries to twist, with the same results. The look on her face gets more angry and determined and she tries again, and this time, slowly, I can feel her push my hands back about an inch. I can actually feel myself having to use some of my strength to stop her, but she sees that she can do it, puts one of her legs back behind her, and the other in front, and keeps going. Slowly, she bends my hands back about halfway to me.
Then I flick my wrists and she yells, “Mercy!” as I have her down on her knee. Once she says that, I release her hands and look at her with a smile.
“You are strong,” I tell her with a chuckle.
“No, I am not. You put my hands back like my strength was nothing!” she says, upset at losing.
“Jelina,” I say, transforming into my Incubus form, which makes her eyes go wide. “Let me show you something.” Without giving her any warning, I am behind her and I have her up in a princess carry before she even has a chance to struggle. She is large, and I know she is heavy, probably well over 900 pounds, if not more. But to me, she feels light. She looks at me in astonishment.
“How are you able to lift me!” she cries, struggling to get out of my arms, but I don’t let her go.
Suddenly, she transforms into her human form to slip out. Oh, she is strong and sneaky. Once she is out of my arms, she backs away from me and transforms back into her grizzly form again. Instead of fighting her, I change into my human form and using the Voice, I say, “Transform into your human form, and sit on the floor.”
Just like that, the grizzly is gone and Jelina is back, in her leather pants, jacket, and white shirt, with her amazing bust showing, and she quickly sits down on the floor. She looks up at me in shock.
Squatting down, so I am at her eye level, I say, “No one is stronger than me. So if I say you are strong. You are strong.” And I tap her on her cute nose. Why I did that, no fucking clue. It was just begging to be tapped.
Turning to my mother, I say, “She is strong. So if you are looking to hire her from her father as one of your guards, you can’t go wrong.”
“Thank you, Brandon. Please go to the doors with Trent. I need to talk to your wives alone,” she says.
“Hmm, sure, I guess,” I tell her.
“It’s a woman thing,” she tells me with a loving smile.
Motioning with my head to Trent, we both back up to the throne room doors, with Maxx following. Once we get near the door, my mother bends down and places her hands on the floor, and suddenly I see the blue light of a Circle of Protection. Then another spell flashes in the Circle. What the fuck? Did my mom just create what Lina has started calling the Cone of Silence? She says she got that name from some old television show. I look at Trent questioningly, and he just shrugs his shoulders.
“No clue. I stopped trying to figure out women a long time ago, especially your mother,” he says in a serious tone.
Looking back at the Circle, I see that my mother has her back to me. But I can see the faces of the girls. All except for Jelina, who is standing smack dab in front of my mother, and therefore my view of her is blocked. Silvana, Lina, and Johanne are grinning ear to ear. What the fuck.
Oh, maybe my mother offered her a job away from her dad. Now, if she hates her dad that much, that would be fucking amazing for her. She seems like someone who has a good head on her shoulders. Hell, I would not have been surprised if I heard that if she was ever in bed with Lord Prognati, she turned into her Werebear and tore him apart.
“Nervous?” Maxx asks me.
“What?” I ask him, confused. “Why would I be nervous? I am not the one interviewing for a job with my mother,” I tell him. Hearing a snicker, I look over at Trent oddly. “What?”
“Nothing. Let’s see how this interview goes for Lady Jelina,” he says stone-faced. I look at the tall black man with mistrust. Then, seeing the blue flame go out from the corner of my eye, I turn around and my mother is motioning to me. I look at Lina, Silvana and Johanne, and they are all smiling. Jelina on the other hand, looks, for lack of a better word, stunned.
“Trent, please open the side door and ask for Minard to bring me my writing desk, please,” my mother tells him. Nodding, Trent veers off and heads to the side door on the left of the throne room.
Looking around, I ask, “What’s up?”
“One moment, Brandon,” my mother says, going to her throne and sitting down.
Just as she does, Minard comes into the room carrying a small table. He places it in front of my mother, and she opens the top and takes out a couple of pieces of paper, a pen from Earth, and her stamp. The same material she used for writing that Writ earlier. And I guess our marriage agreements. My mother said they were necessary since the girls were marrying into Royalty. I watch as she begins to write furiously. I look at the girls, but they aren’t giving anything away as they smile at me.
I try looking at Jelina, but she is ignoring me and gazing at my mother. Almost too intently, if you ask me. I look down at Maxx. Yeah, he’s a dog. He wouldn’t know. Looking up, I see my mother has finished her first letter and stamped it and put her hand out towards Jelina to come get it. Jelina walks to my mother, almost in fear, and grabs the paper. Once she has it, she reads it, and her face bursts into a radiantly beautiful smile.
“I am free from my dad! I am no longer required by law to marry whoever he says. I am now officially a Child of the Crown!” she yells ecstatically.
“What does that mean?” I ask. This isn’t my world, so no clue what that means.
“It means I am my own person. I make my own decisions. I no longer need to go to my father and I can do what I want. But because I am also a Child of the Crown until I have reached the age of twenty-five, I get a stipend to take care of myself, so I don’t need to worry about money!” she says.
“Wait, child? Hmm. How old are you?” I ask her nervously. Oh crap, please don’t be too young. I mean, I had assumed Jelina was at least twenty-two or twenty-three when I met her. I don’t need to come off as some lecherous bastard with a young thing complex.
“Oh,” she says with a laugh. “I turned twenty-one last year.”
“Brandon, this one is yours,” my mother says. Turning to her, I see she has another piece of paper out, but this time it’s pointed towards me. Slowly, I walk up to her and grab it.
I bring the paper up and begin to read it, and as I read it, I go into shock. Looking up at my mother, I ask her in disbelief, “You are giving me another wife?!?”
From behind me, I hear all the girls start shouting in joy. I feel a hand land on my shoulder and squeeze it. It’s Trent. He says, “My condolences, my boy.” But the fucker has a huge grin on his fucking face.
Chapter Twenty-Nine
The last week has been a whirlwind of activity. Since my mother was made Queen, she was kept so busy I barely got to see her. They gave me a room, shared only with Maxx, thank God. But that doesn’t mean we were not busy. Most days it was training, and now we had added Jelina to the mix. I haven’t bitten her yet, because the girls want to wait until we are back on Earth for that. And to start her magic training without the interference of the court life.
Looking at the bed, I glare at the outfit that is there. The thing looks pompous and foo-foo. It’s a fucking outfit that they fitted me for that is meant to show I am a Prince. To me, it looks like something a fucking bard in a SCA fair would wear. It’s way too colorful for my taste. It has the purple of my mother’s house, and the red of my father’s. The green is to show I am from Earth, and I am pretty sure the rest of the colors are just there to fucking annoy me.
“I can eat it,” Maxx says from the bed, staring at the offending clothing.
Sighing, I say, “No, it would probably give you the rainbow runs.”
“Probably,” he says with laughter in his voice.
There is a knock on my door. Here we go again, I think with a sigh. Probably another fitting or something. This is the fourth outfit the tailors had made me. Each one seems to be getting gaudier and gaudier. I mean, fucksakes, the party is being held tonight! I don’t even want to wear that outfit! How am I going to want to wear the next one?
I open the door and just stare in shock at the man that is on the other side of it. My brain has stopped working. I stand there with my mouth simply opening and closing.
“Aren’t you going to let me in, Brandon?” says the man. He is short, about five foot seven, but he is stocky with wide shoulders. His long hair is the same color as mine; blond but with touches of gray, I can see.
“Dad!” I finally croak out of my constricted throat.
“Hey, Kiddo,” he says, and there are tears in his eyes. And that is when I realize there are tears in mine as well. Then we are both hugging each other hard, and I am crying into his shoulder.
“I missed you, Dad,” I tell him brokenly.
“I missed you too,” he says, and I hear that he is just as choked up as I am. Finally, he says, “Shall I close the door so that the help doesn’t think we are both cry babies?” He pulls away to look at me, and I simply nod in response.
He walks in and closes the door behind him, and I just stare at him. My father, Peter McDermott, who, like my mom, I thought I had lost in a house fire. Only to find out that they were really from this world called Sanctuary that is the home of the Werefolk. My dad grabs the only chair in the room from the desk and sits down. I sit on the bed, just staring at him.
“First off, I want to say I am sorry we left you when you were young,” he says with a sigh, wiping the tears from his face with both hands.
“Mom explained why,” I tell him, doing the same to my face. “And I don’t blame either of you.”
“Good,” he says, nodding. “How is Sanctuary treating you?”
“Good, overall. I mean, I have been training with my wives, all four of them,” I tell him with a scowl. “And tonight there is the party, where I apparently have to wear this piece of colorful confetti,” I tell him, putting my hand on the outfit that is next to me on the bed.
“Well, we can fix the outfit thing later,” he says with a laugh. “So is this Maxx that I have heard so much about from your mom? Hi Maxx, I hope the food here is to your liking.”
“It is,” Maxx says, and I relay his message to my father.
“So it’s true! He can talk to you. Though, it must be hard to get used to having someone talk to you in your head,” my dad says with a laugh. “But if you need anything Maxx, just ask. We will get it.”
“More meat,” Maxx says with a hopeful tone.
I tell my dad and he nods to Maxx and says, “I will make sure they add extra meat to your meals.”
“I like him,” Maxx says.
“Now, as for you,” my dad says, looking at me. He walks to the door and opens it, and someone outside passes him something. When he brings it in, I see it’s a suit bag. Like from Earth. I look at it in trepidation Shit, if they have it hiding in a bag, it must be hideous. The fact that my father is bringing it must mean they are scared to bring it to me. My last outburst was epic. I think I might have made one of the tailors cry—poor guy.
Instead of saying something, my dad opens the bag and brings out a black tuxedo. Getting up quickly, I run to it and yell, “Fucking A dad!” causing him to laugh.
“Don’t let your mother hear you swear. I still get the look when I do.”
“Where did you get a tuxedo?” I ask, admiring the cut of the outfit. There is even a pair of black dress shoes in the bag!
“I had one of our runners go across in Vegas and grab it. I got your size from one of the tailors. I thought it would be a nice gift after not seeing you for what? Twelve years?” my dad tells me.
Looking up from the bag, I say with a grin, “Dad, you just saved my freaking image, whatever I had of it.” But then I sober up at the number he just mentioned. Straightening back up after looking into the bag, which I had placed on my bed, I go to him and put my hands on his shoulders. “And as for leaving me, I know why you and mom did it. But now that isn’t an issue anymore, is it?”
Suddenly my dad grins ear to ear, “Nope, you made your mother Queen.” Then he scowls. “Though I’m not sure I will get used to the title of Consort to the Queen.”
“Hey, better than Concubine,” I tell him with a laugh.
“It’s not any better,” he says with a sigh. “But I am also a MacDermott. We might not be as powerful a clan as the Quinn’s, or even the Trivalti’s, but we are still powerful.”
“Speaking of, what will happen to Lord Trivalti’s house now that he was, hmm, you know,” I ask him.
Sitting back down, my dad shakes his head sadly. “Lord Trivalti was nothing but an ass. He made sure that only he had power, so now his House is in shambles. No one is powerful enough or has enough backbone to take it over. So now it might end up being ruined. I told your mother what she should do is sponsor this new wife of yours, Jelina?” I nod to him. “She should sponsor her as head of the House. But I was told that she is going to Earth with you, and that your mother would rather let that House die off. Of course, the other Royals are all against that. A House dying off scares them since they think it could also happen to them, and to be honest, I can’t imagine the MacDermott House dying off like that. So, we are trying to figure out a solution.”
“Why not just hire a steward to take care of it while Jelina is gone? I mean, it’s not like we can’t go back and forth.” I tell him.
My father doesn’t say anything, but I can tell he is intrigued by my comment. “We need to see your mother, now!” he says, getting up quickly.
“Hmm, sure? Maxx, you coming?” I tell him, following my dad to the door.
“Yes,” he says.
Heading out, I follow my dad down the hallway to the stairs. We are on the top floor of the castle. My room is in one of the corners and, as I found out, it’s one of the bigger rooms. Once we are downstairs, we head to my mother’s office, not the throne room. She only uses that for special receptions, she says, and right now it’s being set up for the party. In front of the door are two purple liveried armored guards. Looking quickly, I see that they both have the silver needle guns. Guess they aren’t taking chances, or my mother isn’t anyway.
Before we get to the door, one of the guards knocks on it three times and opens it. My dad walks in, and I follow him. Inside, my mother is at her desk, writing away.
Without looking up, she says, “What’s up Peter, love?” Oh, so the three knocks are to let her know my dad was coming in? A knock system? Wonder if I will get a knock, I think with an internal laugh.
“It seems our son does have a brain in him,” he tells her, but grins at me to let me know he’s joking. “He might have found a solution to our House Trivalti issue.”
“Oh?” my mother says, looking up. Upon seeing me, she gets up quickly and walks over, giving me a kiss and a hug. Looking down, she says, “Hello Maxx.”
