  About the author

To you who is always unlucky, may you find your own kinky Leprechaun.

  Trigger warnings

This book contains mature content, descriptive sex scenes, profanity, a bit of exhibitionism, a cheating bastard (who isn’t the main male character), and a very cocky main male character.

  Chapter 1

  When nothing goes right

  Astrid’s POV

Astrid was going to murder someone. Right, maybe not murder someone, but at least maim him. Josh Appleton second of his name was who she was thinking about maiming, strangling, and choking to death.

The asshole had dumped her on Valentine’s day, about a month ago, and now he was inviting her to his housewarming.

Astrid would have been okay with it if only the bastard wasn’t inviting her to the housewarming of a house he shared with his new girlfriend, who Astrid suspected may have always existed.

She wasn’t mad there had been another woman, no, it wasn’t the reason she was so mad. She was pissed that she hadn’t realized that he was playing her. Because there was no way his relationship with that girl was new, Astrid knew that.

She couldn’t stop staring at her screen.

Josh: Hi. Party at our place on March 25th. Come as you want. Josh & Kate.

It was in exactly eight days. It was probably the thousandth times she read and yet her eyes couldn’t leave the screen. It was a miracle her phone wasn’t laying in pieces on the ground with how hard Astrid was squeezing it in her hand.

Mickie: are you coming or not?

Mickaela or “Mickie” as Astrid called her was her sister and the message that had just popped on her screen while she was still gripping as if her life depended on it, was her sister’s way of reminding her that she had said she would join her and their group of friends at Paddy’s. It was the only Irish pub that celebrated Saint Patrick’s day in Hollowtown. The only Irish pub in Hollowtown actually.

Mickie: you said you’d join us

It was as if her sister could read her mind and knew that Astrid was thinking of staying home. Yeah, she didn’t feel like going out tonight. Maybe she would just have a beer and eat a pizza while watching a new show on Netflix. That sounded way more interesting than going out and getting squeezed or groped by strangers in the small pub that smelled like stale beer and sweat.

Mickie: I don’t want to be the only single woman so get your ass here.

Mickaela made a point with this message. Usually, the two sisters went out together – not that it happened very often, Mickaela preferred running in the forest over partying, and well, if Astrid had any choice she would pick take-out and Netflix over anything – but lately, they had made friends with their brother’s girlfriend Carla and her two friends, Isis and Rose. What was surprising was the fact that all three women had ended up with a supernatural boyfriend.

Isis was with a succubus demon named Athanaël, Rose dated Cupid – yeah, the real one with blond curls and white wings – and Carla was with Sebastian, Astrid’s brother.

Like him, Astrid and Mickaela were puma-shifters. Mickaela embraced the way of life of pumas and was an outdoorsy girl. Astrid couldn’t be more different. She was more like an indoor cat. One with her wits and tongue as sharp as her claws.

  And no filter at all.

It was what everyone thought. That Astrid had no filter and would blurt out anything that passed through her head.

  They were utterly wrong though.

Astrid wasn’t without a filter, she just didn’t lie and didn’t see why she should make everyone happy. Not everyone was trying to make her happy, so why would she work so hard for their happiness?

Not that she was mean, not really. She just didn’t refrain from saying what she thought when she wanted to.

And right in this instant two thoughts were warring in her mind. On one side she wanted to answer her sister “fuck off” and on the other side, she refused to think that Josh Appleton second of his name could ruin her evening.

Or ruin it more than he already had.

Her mood was sour but she wasn’t so petty that she would leave her sister to fend for herself.

Mickie: I’ve got mozzarella sticks and a white beer for you. They called me a heretic because of the beer and are looking at me as if I peed in their glasses. Hurry up.

Her sister was using all means to get her there. and she didn’t even know about Josh’s message. Astrid was convinced that if Mickaela had known, she would have been at her door already, hauling her over her shoulder as if Astrid weighed nothing and dragging her out to the pub.

Astrid pushed her glasses up her nose with just a move of her index finger and started to type on her phone.

  Astrid: Be there in five.

She grabbed her leather jacket and a scarf put some boots on and left her house. She was in her pajamas – a large sweater and comfy pants – but she didn’t care. If someone was unhappy it was their problem, not Astrid’s problem.

  Chapter 2

When the evening is what the heroine expected

  Astrid's POV

Astrid had been at Paddy’s for only ten minutes and she already wanted to leave. She had no idea how her dear sister – who was a real nature woman – could also like this sort of celebration. The smell was worse than in her imagination, and there were so many people. Astrid could admit that everyone wasn’t squeezed together though. People could still move around the pool tables even if it was almost impossible to have a conversation with the loud music blaring from the speakers that towered in the back corner of the pub.

It sounded Celtic. At least it fit the celebration.

“What’s with the PJs?” Cupid asked from the other side of the table.

He was the only one other than Astrid that hadn’t tried to either go play a pool game or dance on the makeshift dance floor just under the speakers. He seemed content to be sitting there in the corner, watching everyone in the room while he played with a coin.

  That damn coin.

It was mesmerizing, and Astrid couldn’t prevent herself from watching each of Cupid’s fingers’ movements.

It called to her. The coin obviously, not Cupid’s fingers.

The thought pulled her out of her entranced state.

“What’s with the stalking?” Astrid bit back while she put her elbows on the table as if she wanted to get closer to Cupid.

She shouldn’t have done that. The table was sticky and wet and it stuck to her sleeves. Astrid hated this place, but now that she was here she wasn’t about to back down.

Cupid’s eyes wandered again in Rose’s direction.

“I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about,” he said with a knowing smile that contradicted his words one hundred percent.

“Lovesick puppy,” Astrid muttered under her breath.

“You’re just jealous, kitty,” Cupid answered her as he turned his face in Rose’s direction again, and it was Astrid’s opportunity. She lunged across the table and grabbed the damn coin from Cupid’s hand.

“I thought you would never take it,” Cupid said before standing and walking to Rose on the dance floor. He slid a hand to her hip and let her sway against him.

  What the fuck just happened?

Astrid felt as if Cupid had just played her like a fool.

Had he stayed on the side because of the coin? Because he wanted her to have it? Wanted her to take it? He sure as hell hadn’t been willing to simply give it to her.

  And now what?

Now that Astrid had the coin she had no idea what to do with it.

Why did she always act before thinking?

She slipped the coin into her pocket and went back to drinking her beer.

It was going to be a long night, and the saddest thing was that Mickaela had already been busy with some guy when Astrid arrived. Her sister definitely didn’t need saving. Astrid needed saving.

  Hell, no.

Astrid didn’t need saving either. It wasn’t time to mope in her corner.

Astrid finished her beer in one gulp, stood, and went to the bar to get another cup. It was a great idea to use plastic cups tonight, not the best ecologically but right at this moment Astrid didn’t care; it suited her purpose. Walk back home with a nice cup of beer and maybe when she got home she would order a huge pizza.

Yeah, that sounded like a plan. She moved to one of the vacant stools in front of the bar and waited for the bartender to come to her. It was busy around the bar when she got there and it didn’t seem to have calmed down at all. It was a small miracle Astrid managed to snatch one of the only two vacant stools, and it wasn’t long before someone sat on the other one, right next to her.

“You’ve got something of mine, Lucky charm,” The man’s velvety voice murmured in her ear.

He was way too close and if he was hitting on her it was particularly poorly done.

She turned to him in order to send him the other way and show him how much she detested his behavior.

And the sight almost knocked her off her stool.

The man in front of her was tall – most likely over 6 foot 2 –, had dark black hair that was a mess, golden skin that hinted at someone who spent a lot of time outside, a nose that looked like it had been broken multiple times, plush lips – that any girl would be jealous of – framed by a beard that looked like he had completely forgotten to shave in past couple of days. His eyes were such a vibrant green that it put the four-leaf clovers hanging from the ceiling of Paddy’s to shame.

  The man was utterly gorgeous.

But he was clearly pissed, and Astrid had absolutely no idea why.

“You must be wrong,” she answered him in a no-nonsense tone that usually worked wonders at getting rid of unwanted attention. Not that Astrid wanted to get rid of the handsome specimen, but she didn’t have time for misplaced anger.

Right on cue, the bartender came back with her beer and without another glance at the stranger, Astrid left.

  Chapter 3

  When the evening gets interesting

  Astrid's POV

Astrid hadn’t walked two steps out of the pub and someone had already grabbed her elbow. She turned slowly, her eyes glaring at the hand holding her back. It was a nice hand, large and strong, with tattoos peeking from under the sleeve of its owner right around his wrists. It was also strangely soft as if the man was scared to bruise her.

Astrid raised her eyes and wasn’t even surprised to find the stranger from the bar in front of her.

She hadn’t really been able to take a good look at him in the bar – other than his gorgeous face – with the low lights and the crowd, but now that they were outside, Astrid could look all she wanted under the light from the lamp post.

The man wore a black leather jacket and dark jeans that hugged thick thighs and – Astrid could only guess and hope since he was facing her – a bubble butt. Under the jacket, she could see a dark green henley shirt that was molded like a second skin against his muscles.

If the man hadn’t sported a permanent scowl she probably would have tried jumping his bones. Probably? Who was she kidding? She would have jumped his bones. No hesitation.

“You’ve got the wrong person, buddy,” Astrid spat at him. She couldn’t be more obvious. Even her body language – arm crossed just under her boobs, foot tapping impatiently and eyes that threw daggers – was a clear message for the guy to leave her be.

He held a hand toward her.

“My coin. I can feel it on you,” he snickered.

  Oh, shit. The damn coin.

“I’m going to kill him,” Astrid muttered under her breath.

Why would a single coin be so important? That made no sense.

Astrid slid her hand into her pocket and retrieved the coin.

“This?” She asked in a sweet voice that sounded extremely fake in her mouth. She flipped it and caught it before it even started its course down. “It’s mine now.”

The man in front of her was seething and if he gritted his teeth just a tiny bit more they would break for sure.

“You don’t understand. I need it,” He answered her vehemently.

It had almost sounded like a growl and Astrid loved a good growl. She hadn’t really planned to annoy the guy but she started to find the situation amusing and maybe, just maybe she was in a teasing mood.

“Make me understand then,” she said with a cheeky smile, turning the coin between two fingers and really looking at it for the first time. It looked like it was real gold and was much shinier than the usual coins. And it was definitely not usual. On each side of the coin, there was a four-leaf clover.

  Was it a joke?

Because it looked too shiny and weird to be anything else than a joke.

“It’s my lucky charm, without it I’m nothing,” the stranger said.

  Interesting.

“Still mine,” Astrid said and plunged the coin into her bra.

“What do you want in exchange?” The man asked. He still sounded pissed but in addition to the anger Astrid could hear a hint of desperation now.

  Not her problem.

“I don’t need anything,” She answered him calmly, her fake sweet smile back on her lips.

“Then I have no other choice, I’ll just follow you around,” was the stranger’s answer.

  “In your dreams,” Astrid answered.

She didn’t want to run and have to throw away her drink but if it came to that she would. Yes, the man was sexy as hell, but no, she wasn’t going to acquire a stalker.

She gulped half of her beer while looking at him.

“Maybe in yours,” the stranger answered with a smirk.

Was he hinting at what she thought?

“It’s not because I’m on a diet that I can’t look at the menu,” she answered with a shrug, “and the menu looks tasty so why wouldn’t I ogle it?”

  That made the man laugh.

“Way to make me feel like a snack,” he managed to say between fits of laughter.

Astrid shrugged again and downed what was left of her beer. It was time.

“I would love to stay and chat but I have places to be and things to do.”

She crushed her plastic cup in her fist, threw it at his face, blew him a kiss, and ran.

  Chapter 4

When the man doesn’t need to outrun a puma

  Astrid's POV

Astrid ran and ran and it was exhilarating. It had been quite a while since she had that much fun. It had been short, of course, but what a way to finish her evening.

She reached the bend at the end of her street and looked behind her to be sure no one followed her.

  The street was empty.

It wasn’t really surprising, there weren’t a lot of people who could run as fast as pumas, and even if Astrid didn’t really look like the running type – curves and nerdy glasses could do that – it was still in her blood.

She entered her home, undressed in the living room without even paying attention to where she threw her clothes, and went to shower.

She could run fast but it didn’t prevent her from sweating like a pig, and she hated the smell of beer that lingered on her skin. She needed a burning hot shower.

She was covered in soap when her doorbell rang.

  What the fuck?

“Go to hell,” she yelled from under her shower. There was no way anyone could hear her but she didn’t care.

She rinsed herself and the bell rang again.

Who the hell was here at this time of the night? It couldn’t be. No? No way!

How could he have found her in so little time? Was his coin that important to him?

Astrid wrapped a towel around her, making sure she was somewhat decent… or well, at least not showing boobs, and went to the living room.
