“We’ve got this,” the metallogue insisted. “Just worry about getting yourselves in the carriage. We can handle the rest.”
I considered protesting, but I knew it wouldn’t get me far. Besides, who was I to turn down someone carrying my things for once?
“Well,” I began, and I shot a mischievous grin toward Cyra. “I suppose that frees my arms up for other things.”
“What do you mean--” Cyra frowned, and then she let out a squeal as I carefully scooped her into my arms. “Gryff!”
My wife let out a giggle of delight as I cradled her close, and before she could try to wiggle out of my grasp, I carried her to the carriage.
“Can you get the door?” I grinned over at Braden. “My hands are a little full at the moment.”
“Sure thing.” The summoner grinned back at me, and once he tucked our suitcases into the carriage, he held the door open wide enough for me to maneuver inside.
“Watch it, don’t hit her head on the roof,” Layla called out in a teasing tone, but I managed to get Cyra onto the seat without injury.
“See you all soon!” I called out to my family, and after one last wave, the carriage door closed.
Once we were completely alone, I pulled my new bride into my lap.
“Ready to get away?” I murmured in Cyra’s ear, and I gently tugged on her earlobe, taking care to avoid her earrings.
The dark-skinned summoner giggled as I kissed along her neck.
“Of course, I am,” she replied, and as I reached her full lips, the carriage took off.
Chapter Six
The ride to Nattanger passed by faster than I expected, maybe only an hour or two, and Cyra and I spent the duration of the journey kissing and touching each other.
Our longing for each other’s bodies was so strong, we’d been tempted to consummate our marriage right there in the carriage, but ultimately, we decided our first-time making love as husband and wife should happen in the privacy of our room in the inn.
“Maker, you’re so beautiful,” I sighed as I traced her soft round cheek. “I need this carriage to move faster so I can have you all to myself.”
“Patience, my love,” Cyra giggled at me, but her dark-brown eyes were heavy-lidded with lust. “We’ll get there soon.”
“Not soon enough,” I sighed.
“Trust me, I want nothing more than for you to rip my dress off and fuck me,” my wife assured me. “But we need to at least pretend we’re civilized until we make it to the village. Once we’re there, we can act as depraved and filthy as you want.”
“Fiiiiine,” I drawled, and my eyes trailed down her lovely frame. “But that doesn’t mean I can’t, and won’t, kiss every inch of you in the meantime.”
“Yes, please,” Cyra giggled.
I pulled my new bride further up into my lap, and the dark-haired mage tried to wrap her legs around me, but the skirt of her dress wasn’t flexible enough to make that possible.
“Let me help,” I said, and I carefully eased her dress up higher over her hips and out of the way. Now that she was unencumbered, Cyra was able to get her legs around my waist, and her arms around my neck.
“Thanks,” she managed to whisper just before I drew her in and kissed her deeply. I could feel her heart race through the heavily beaded bodice of her gown as her pert, firm breasts pressed against me, and I felt an angry stir in my lower half.
The mage’s amber perfume flooded my senses, and like a simple-minded animal, the only thing my brain could focus on was my desire. I would respect her wishes to save full penetration for the inn, but Maker, I wanted her so badly.
My lips parted slightly as a moan built up in my throat, and Cyra took the opportunity to slip her tongue into my mouth. We played with each other, and our tongues batted at one another playfully in soft, fluid motions. Once she pulled hers out, she took my lower lip between her teeth and tugged ever so slightly.
“You’re playing with fire,” I warned her as my blood ran hot throughout my body.
“It’s a good thing I like a bit of danger,” she murmured, and her eyes were as dark as midnight and heavy-lidded with lust.
I ran my hands up her legs and under her skirt and was pleased by the feeling of lace beneath my fingertips. Cyra let out a soft sigh as I squeezed her smooth thighs, and she brought her lips back to mine.
We continued on like this for a while, distracted by our passion as we enveloped each other, and I was moments away from damning our decisions and claiming her when she leaned over and peered out the window of the cabin.
“Get back over here,” I laughed at her, and the summoner’s full lips curled up into a smile.
“Gryff, I think we’re here,” my wife assessed, and I leaned over to look out as well. Sure enough, we were passing by a stretch of close-knit shops and residences.
“It appears we are,” I said. At first, I was disappointed by the interruption, but our arrival in the village meant we were even closer to the privacy of our room at the inn, so I couldn’t be too saddened.
The village itself was just as quaint as Braden and Mati had described it, and it reminded me almost of Adorna or Dassian’s Keep, only this place had a calming air the others did not. Dassian’s Keep, the village where Ashla and I had retrieved the book I stole from Carth’s library, had been bustling and busy, but Nattanger was the exact opposite. Even at this time of night, there were people out walking the cobbled streets of Nattanger arm-in-arm. The streetlights glowed with soft fire, and even from within the walls of the carriage, I could smell different delicious scents wafting from the shops and bakeries.
“Something smells delicious,” I said, and my stomach suddenly let out a grumble as if to emphasize my statement.
“Oh, fuck, do you smell cinnamon bread?” Cyra sniffed the air delicately. “Wow, that’s something I haven’t smelled in a long time.”
Sure enough, I could detect notes of vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, and dough, and my mouth began to water.
“I smell it, too,” I confirmed. “We’ll have to walk through the village tomorrow and track some down. It’s making me hungry.”
“Cinnamon bread was my favorite food as a kid,” Cyra laughed.
“Really?” I asked. “That’s kind of adorable.”
“I swear, there was a good year or so where it was all I ever wanted to eat for every meal,” Cyra giggled as she tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. “It was nearly as bad as your obsession with potato skins--”
“I wouldn’t call it an obsession,” I interjected, and Cyra shot me a look that made me crack up. “What? They’re delicious!”
“I know,” my wife giggled. “I’m just giving you a hard time. But, yeah, it was that bad of an addiction. I haven’t found a loaf that smells that close to my mom’s in years.”
Though it was something as simple as food, I could tell the memory meant a lot to Cyra, and even though we didn’t speak about her family often, I wanted to make sure she could have a piece of her childhood while we were on this rare vacation together.
“I have an idea,” I declared, and I took Cyra’s hands in mine. “Tomorrow, I propose we go on a mission to locate both cinnamon bread and potato skins. It’s not the best combination of foods, but we’re on our honeymoon, so let’s let loose. I want to give you the best vacation possible, so anything you want to do is on the table.”
“Deal,” Cyra agreed. “Though, those are some pretty dangerous terms.”
“I like a bit of danger,” I echoed her words from earlier, and my beautiful bride giggled as I wrapped my arm over her shoulder and pulled her in close.
Finally, the carriage came to a halt outside of the inn, and after we adjusted our clothes to look presentable, we gathered our luggage and carefully climbed out of the cabin.
The building was larger than expected, with three floors, tall latticed black windows, and a high roof complete with a chimney. Ivy spread across the white outside walls like the blush of a lady’s cheek, and the overall effect was quite charming.
A sign outside of the place read “The Dragon’s Hearth,” but a softer name would have suited the place better.
“Wow,” Cyra breathed. “Mati was right. This place is adorable.”
“It is,” I agreed. A small path led to a courtyard beyond the inn, and I noticed what appeared to be a garden with a large fountain at the center. I vowed to investigate it tomorrow and determine if it was a worthy place for a romantic stroll with my bride.
Once I paid the driver, I picked our suitcases up off the ground, and we headed inside.
The inside of the inn was spacious, with low-lighting, deep maroon-colored walls, and reddish-brown wood floors. Immediately, we were greeted by a short redheaded woman who introduced herself as Karla, the innkeeper.
“Judging by your garments, is it safe to say congratulations are in order?” Karla grinned as her dark-blue eyes moved between us. “You have the happy glow of a couple of newlyweds.”
“We were just married this evening,” I confirmed, and Karla clapped her hands happily.
“Congratulations!” She smiled even wider. “That’s so wonderful. I’m pleased you chose our inn for your honeymoon. The Dragon’s Hearth is one of the oldest inns in the area. You’re going to have a lovely time in Nattanger.”
“Thank you so much,” I replied, and I wrapped my free arm around Cyra’s shoulder. “We’re really looking forward to this stay. This is our first time here.”
“That’s what I like to hear,” Karla said. “Would you like me to show you the way to your room?”
“That would be great.” I smiled at the kind woman. The inn was larger than I’d expected, and though our luggage wasn’t heavy, I didn’t want to lug it around as we searched for our room.
Karla stepped in front of us and inclined her head for us to follow her. Cyra and I exchanged a quick glance and then pursued the innkeeper as she swiftly moved down the corridor.
“Breakfast is served from seven until eleven,” Karla informed us as she ushered us up the staircase to our second-floor room. “Not to be too biased on the matter, but the Dragon’s Hearth has the best breakfast in all of Nattanger. Probably even the surrounding area. The chef does things with eggs that’ll knock your boots off.”
“Noted.” I nodded my head. “We’ll definitely have to check it out, then.”
“Sounds delicious,” Cyra chimed in.
“How long will you be staying with us again?” the innkeeper wondered. “I remember the reservation being made, just not the specifics.”
“We’ll be here for three nights,” I answered her. “It’s a short stay, but after how crazy life has been lately, three days off feels just as good as a week.”
“I understand.” Karla nodded. “Three days is a perfect amount of time.”
The innkeeper led us down the candle-lit corridor and stopped at a tall door with the number thirty-seven carved into it. She reached into her pocket, retrieved what appeared to be a master key, and then unlocked the door to the room.
“Thank you so much for showing us to the room,” I addressed Karla once she turned back around.
“It’s no trouble at all,” the kind redhead assured me with a wave of her hand. “If you need anything, I’ll be down on the first floor for a while. Extra towels, pillows, whatever you need, don’t hesitate to ask. We aren’t the fanciest establishment in the realm, but we do pride ourselves on our service, so if you have any requests, feel free to ask me.”
“I appreciate your hospitality,” I replied, and I gave the woman my most sincere smile. “We were recommended this inn by a friend of ours who stayed here for his honeymoon, so we’re excited to spend time here ourselves.”
“Yes, thank you so much,” Cyra chimed in. “We’re really looking forward to this stay.”
“That’s wonderful to hear.” Karla smiled back at me, and she smoothed the short apron tied around her waist. “I hope we exceed your expectations as well. If you need any recommendations for things to do around the village, come find me in the morning. I should be around either the front desk or the dining hall.”
“Thank you, Karla,” I said once more, and she gave me a firm nod.
“Congratulations on your marriage,” the innkeeper said before she departed back down the corridor. “May the Maker bless you with happiness.”
Once the door closed behind her, Cyra and I set down our suitcases and looked around the room.
It was much larger than I had expected, and every inch of the room gave off a pleasant, cozy vibe. The red-brown wood floors were covered by ruggedly cut fur rugs, and the enormous bed was outfitted with multiple pillows, furs, and quilts. It reminded me of Cyra’s pillow nest in her bedroom, and sure enough, my wife wasted no time and flopped down into the comfy mass. Her wavy hair spilled behind her, and as she studied the ceiling absently, I couldn’t help but study her.
The angle of her body paired with the beauty of her dress drove me absolutely wild. I still couldn’t believe the darkly beautiful summoner was now my wife, and I was ready to pick up on where we’d left off in the carriage.
“Maker, this is comfortable,” Cyra sighed as she nestled into one of the fur blankets. “Ohhhhhhhhh, it’s so soft.”
“I’m glad it’s to your liking, my lady.” I smirked at her as she buried her face in the dense fur.
After a moment, Cyra propped herself up and swept her hair over one shoulder. Her midnight eyes trailed over me, and she cocked an eyebrow as she glanced in my direction.
“What?” she asked with inquisitive eyes. “Why are you staring at me like that?”
“I’m just admiring the view,” I replied, and I leaned against the ruby-red wall. The color was an odd choice for an inn, but combined with the cherry wood and the plush pelts everywhere, it somehow worked. The incoming moonlight paired with the candlelight from the strategically placed candles around the room gave the place an ethereal glow and lit up Cyra’s skin beautifully.
Cyra patted the empty space on the mattress beside her. “Care to get a closer look?”
I gratefully accepted her invitation, but before I took a seat on the bed, I removed my heavy coat from my shoulders. If things were going as anticipated, I wasn’t going to need it anytime soon, so I let the garment fall to the floor and then joined my wife.
“This dress is lovely,” I whispered as I skimmed my fingertips across Cyra’s shoulder. “The others told me how beautiful it was, but I don’t think their compliments paid it justice enough. You are gorgeous beyond words.”
“You flatter me, my husband,” my wife murmured as I planted a feather-soft kiss on her bare neck. “But please, don’t stop paying me compliments. I like it.”
“Shall I write you an entire ballad praising your beauty?” I teased her. “I’m not that great of a singer, but if it pleases you, I’ll give it a shot.”
“That would be impressive,” Cyra giggled. “Though I don’t know if I warrant an entire ballad.”
“You warrant an entire book of ballads,” I insisted, and I swept one of the straps of the golden gown off Cyra’s shoulder so I could kiss her amber-scented skin.
Cyra let out a soft sigh as my lips trailed up her neck. Then I bit down on the tender skin gently, and the curly-haired mage uttered a moan.
“Fuck,” she sighed. “Don’t stop doing that.”
I kissed her neck once more, and then I sat up and slowly slid the zipper of the gown down her spine. As the fabric parted, I traced her bare back with my fingertips, and Cyra swept her mane of wavy hair over her shoulder to give me better access.
“I know you just praised the dress, but I think I know a way to improve it,” she offered.
“I’m open to suggestions,” I said, and then Cyra stood up and carefully eased herself out from the garment. Beneath her clothes, the gorgeous summoner wore nothing but a pair of black lace panties that were so thin they left little to the imagination.
“Wow,” I sighed as I admired the curves of Cyra’s perfect figure.
“Like what you see?” Cyra smirked at me.
“Of course, I do,” I replied. “I’d be able to appreciate the view more thoroughly if it were a bit closer, though.”
“Your wish is my command,” my wife murmured in a low, seductive voice, and then she slowly made her way back to me. With every step she took, her hips swayed rhythmically, and I was enchanted by the motion.
Once Cyra stood before me, I pulled her into my lap, undid the straps of her bejeweled sandals, and carefully threw them down onto the fur rug. Then I leaned down and kissed the soft, smooth skin of her bare calves, and I worked my way up to her knee and then her strong thighs.
“I love you,” I muttered in between kisses.
“I love you, too,” Cyra murmured.
I shoved the stack of pillows and extra pillows out of the way and gently laid my wife down onto the bed. Her wavy hair fanned out prettily behind her, and her pupils were so dilated they were practically blending into the darkness of her chocolate eyes.
I reached down, eased her black lace panties down off her hips, and discarded them onto the floor, and once Cyra was entirely bare, I got a better look at the glistening wetness of her pussy.
“Wow,” I remarked. “You’re all ready for me, aren’t you?”
“Yes,” my bride murmured. “Between the carriage and here, you’ve definitely gotten me excited.”
“Likewise,” I growled before I climbed on top of the chocolate-skinned mage, leaned down, and pressed my lips against hers.
As we kissed each other with a feverish passion, I took my wife’s perfect breasts in my hands and began to play with her nipples. The dark buds grew stiff under my touch, and Cyra moaned deeply in my mouth as I tweaked at the hardened nubs.
Cyra ran her nails down my back, and with every flick I delivered to her nipples, she increased the pressure of them against me. As her nails dug in with more intensity, my heart raced in my chest, and an involuntary gasp escaped my lips.
“Maker, you’re so fucking sexy,” I sighed, then I ran my hands down the length of her torso until I reached her bare, soaking wet entrance.
