I grinned and kissed my wife passionately. Her lips were soft and warm against mine, and my hands threaded into her flaming-red hair, silky between my fingers. I kissed her as if I was afraid I would never kiss her again.
“You’re wonderful,” I murmured when I pulled away, and my voice caught in my throat as emotion welled up inside me. “Holy fucking shit, Shay, you’re just incredible. A baby? Our baby?”
“Yours and mine,” Shay agreed, and tears shone in her own eyes. “I’m only a month or two behind Zoie. We can raise them together. Siblings.”
Our children. I could scarcely believe it. Shay had been distraught when we’d first met. She’d agonized over the fact that she could never have kids, and now she was pregnant. I knew this was more than she’d ever dared dream, and I was so in awe of her, and so happy for her, that I felt like my heart might burst right out of my chest.
To hell with Kavo Alda. To hell with the detractors in the Council who wanted to tear me down. I had my Crew, my wonderful wives. We were going to save Aventoll, we were going to stop whatever sick plan Kavo was cooking up, and we were going to make this place a paradise.
A paradise in which we could raise our children.
