  Foreword

Have you ever been attracted to someone completely wrong for you? Someone who is everything you hate in a man? Entitled, arrogant, selfish, and rude? So what if he’s a billionaire and handsome, with twinkly blue eyes that probably make every woman drop at his feet. But not me. When I land the best summer internship after college, the last person I expect to see on my first day is Michael Greer, the guy I accidentally saw naked in a hotel room the night before my internship interview. So awkward. He’s determined to embarrass me even more, pushing me until I’ll quit my dream job. But I’m not just any small-town girl from Nowhere, Kansas, as Mr. Hot Shot is about to find out. I know how to deal with pests, even rich, handsome pests like him.

  Interning For A Billionaire

  Chapter 1

  Belle

He was the last person on earth I expected to see.

  I couldn’t believe my eyes.

Standing in front of me, the CEO of the company where I was about to start my summer internship, was Michael Greer – or, as I’d been thinking of him in my mind – Naked Guy.

  How was this possible?

“Belle?” Josie Pirelli, the HR manager of Pyramide Development and my new manager, looked at me.

  “Are you all right?”

She had just introduced me to Greer in his corner office with the big glass windows.

“Nice to meet you,” I said, sticking out my hand and forcing a smile on my face.

“Oh, but we’ve met before, haven’t we?” He said, a mischievous twinkle in his eye as he took my hand and shook it.

“We have?” I said, pretending not to remember our awkward encounter a couple of months ago.

“Don’t tell me you forgot?” he said, folding his arms across his chest, a naughty smile on his face. His teeth were very white, his stance very confident and I couldn’t stand the arrogance with which he was looking at me, willing me to remember him in all his glory.

“What do you mean?” Josie asked, confused. “You’ve met before?”

The phone rang and Michael excused himself to answer it. Josie led me out of the office.

“Michael Greer is not the kind of man you forget meeting,” she said, lifting her eyebrows.

I knew I had to come up with a good excuse.

“I must not have had my contact lenses in,” I said quickly. “When I met him, I mean. I was trying to make a good impression at the time for my job interview, you know? Not wearing the glasses? Not really a good idea,” I smiled apologetically.

“Right,” Josie said, with a frown, but she seemed to accept my excuse.

“I’m wearing contacts now,” I assured her.

She was right though, Michael Greer was not the kind of man you forgot easily. He was too annoyingly arrogant, too full of himself. The kind of handsome that was photoshopped onto billboards to advertise toothpaste or movies or expensive watches. He knew he looked good too, he had that way about him, the confidence of someone who always got what he wanted.

I had to walk faster to keep up with Josie as she took me around the office and introduced me to everyone, showing me my cubicle where I’d be working. But I didn’t hear a thing. I couldn’t get my head around the fact that Michael Greer was my boss.

I had worked so hard to get this summer internship job. Hundreds of people had applied to get in and I had managed to bag it. I’d been so excited! This was going to be my opportunity to get out of small-town Nolan, or as I thought of it privately, Nowhere, in rural Kansas. I have nothing against it, really. I’d grown up there and spent happy childhood years cycling about the corn fields and playing in the rivers, but for as long as I could remember, I’d dreamed of living in the city and getting away from my wonderful but overprotective dad.

I thought back to how I’d met Michael Greer a few months ago, when I came up to the city for the interview for the summer internship. I was supposed to meet with some people from the company, the HR team in particular, as this was the internship I was applying for.

When I got to the city hotel, there was a stuff-up with the booking. The reservation had somehow gotten lost, and they couldn’t find my name anywhere on the system. I was furious, demanded that they make a plan.

Just then, I heard someone say behind me, “If there is a problem, I may be able to help?”

I turned around and saw a man in a tuxedo, very attractive, on his way out.

  He didn’t introduce himself.

“I have a suite,” he said, “That’s two bedrooms and I’m only using the one. I’ll be out anyway tonight and will only come back late, so we might not even see each other. You’re welcome to use the other room?”

I wasn’t really in a position to say no. Before I knew it, he said goodnight and left for his evening out. The hotel staff gave me an extra key to his room, and I went up to the eighth floor. The suite was expansive, luxuriously furnished and I knew that whoever had booked these rooms had money and lots of it. I went to bed early and was ready to leave early the next morning too. I didn’t want to take advantage and wanted to be out of there before he even woke up. I’d intended to go for breakfast and then waiting in the lobby until it was time to leave for my interview. I took my things to the living room area of the suite, checking that I had everything, when the bathroom door opened and the man, who I now know was Michael Greer, came out.

  Stark naked.

He wasn’t wearing any clothes and didn’t even have a towel around his waist.

“Oh,” he said, looking straight at me, not embarrassed in the slightest. “I thought you’d already left.”

He made no move to cover himself.

He had a great body, muscular and fit, the look of someone who worked out regularly. He was impressive in every aspect, especially in the one area where I didn’t want to look but couldn’t help my eyes from wandering to.

“Like what you see?” he asked, his voice ironic.

“I’m sorry,” I said, looking down at my luggage and picking up my bag. “I…I’d wanted to be out of here by now.”

“Don’t worry about it,” he grinned at me, clearly enjoying my discomfort, and still making no move to cover himself.

I got out of the room as fast as I could, furious at myself for how I’d handled that situation.

It wasn’t like I’d never seen a naked guy before! My father is a family physician in Nolan and over the years, I’d often helped him take care of patients who arrived with all kinds of strange medical problems. Like the boy who’d zipped up his pants and managed to snag his willy in the teeth of the zipper. Another time, I accidentally walked in as my father gave a farmer a shot in the bum and as his pants were all the way down, I got a pretty good view of his pride and joy.

Then there was my boyfriend Sven, whose manhood I had, of course, seen as well. Others too. I certainly wasn’t a prude either and I’d had plenty of opportunity to view all aspects of the male body.

But something about Michael Greer and the way he had stood there, almost exposing himself to me, willing me to acknowledge how big and well-hung he was, really annoyed me.

I pushed the memory out of my head, refusing to think about it. I focused on my interview, and it went well. After that, I waited with anticipation to hear if I’d gotten the internship and I had. I was delighted. Getting into Pyramide Development at their San Francisco headquarters was a big coup. If the summer job went well, I could be looking at securing a permanent job. Living and working in one of the greatest cities in the country! I couldn’t believe my luck.

Could it have been too good to be true?

I thought of Michael Greer’s smile when he’d seen me in his office just now.

He had obviously recognized me from the hotel room as the country bumpkin who was thrown by his dazzling physique. He’d enjoyed embarrassing me like that in front of

the HR manager.

  It made me furious.

I had not worked so hard for this opportunity to let some idiot with a big dick get in the way of my plans. I would not allow Michael Greer to get in my way. I was determined to show him that I could get past our little hotel experience.

The only problem was, he wouldn’t let me.

Over the course of the next few days, Michael made a point of showing up at my desk, pretending to ask me about something, or checking up on me. He had a way of almost creeping up to me and forcing me to turn around while seated, my face almost touching his crotch.

I could see he was enjoying putting me in this uncomfortable position, making the most of our encounter in the hotel room and how he’d seen me appreciate his body. Whenever he could, he would make me aware of his body, to focus my attention on it.

He was enjoying himself a bit too much for my liking.

After about two days of this, I came up with a plan to level the playing field.

I knew it was a bit risky, but I could think of no other way to deal with the situation.

Then, early one morning, I knocked on his door.

“You have a moment?” I asked.

“For you, Belle, of course,” he said, pushing his chair back and getting up.

“I wanted to show you this,” I said. I opened up my phone and went to the gallery where I had taken some pictures of myself the previous evening. Naked pictures of my body. Showing my breasts, my pubic area, all of me. I held the screen to his face.

“Take a good look,” I said, my voice firm and professional.

His hand came up to take the phone, but I pulled the phone back.

“I only had a few seconds too,” I reminded him.

Then I turned my phone off.

“Right, so now we can call it quits. You’ve seen me naked, and I’ve seen you naked. I hope we can get past this whole naked body thing so that I can get to work and do the best job I possibly can for your company.”

He was not smiling anymore. If anything, he seemed thoughtful, he was nodding.

Then he said, “I think I need to see that last picture again,” he said, winking at me.

“I think you’ve seen all you need to see,” I said, turning on my heels and walking out of his office.

My heart was beating fast, but I felt good. I had kept my cool, I wouldn’t let him derail me anymore. It was just a naked body. Millions of them around. Mine wasn’t that bad either, even if I said so myself. I’d never sent photographs of myself to anyone or done anything like this before. But I had to level the playing field.

I really hoped that this would be the end of this whole business.

But I had underestimated Michael Greer.

Our little game was far from over.

  Chapter 2

  Michael

My first meeting of the day was a phone conversation with a big client.

I was ready to have a tough conversation about monthly targets and reasonable expectations. Instead, I found myself talking about women and babies.

It was not what I expected.

  At all.

“Clint! How are you!” I said as I heard him pick up the phone.

“Michael! Jesus, could you sound a little less sprightly?” he said, sounding groggy.

“I’ve always been a morning person!” I joked. It was true, though. I’d been up since five this morning.

Clint groaned. “I don’t know what I used to be,” he said, morosely. “Night owl, early bird, whatever. But I know I was the kind of person who liked to sleep for at least a few hours a night.”

“Not getting much sleep?” I guessed.

“No.” He sighed, “New baby and all.”

I remembered something about him remarrying and his second wife giving birth to their first child a few weeks ago.

“At least things are looking good on the site testing,” I said, trying to get the topic round to work, but Clint wasn’t interested in talking about that.

“I am not sleeping. At all,” he said. “I need my sleep, you know, this is like Chinese torture.”

“That’s…. tough,” I said, not really knowing what to say.

“When I met Juliette, she was this gorgeous woman, like a model. Beautiful. She looked like she belonged in a magazine. Now, some days, she doesn’t get out of her pajamas. And I’m not talking sexy nighties. Old T-shirts, jogging shorts. She looks homeless.” He sounded like he was going to cry, “She cut her hair short, for God’s sake!” He sounded miserable, “I don’t even recognize her anymore!”

“It will get better, I’m sure,” I said.

  “Really? You’ve got kids?”

“Err…no, but my brother Nathan and his wife Emma have two little ones and they recently went to St. Bart’s for a romantic break. Without the kids.”

“I can’t remember the last time we had sex,” Clint said, sounding depressed. “Probably before the baby was born. Well, definitely, then, anyway,” he gave a sarcastic laugh. He gave another sigh. “If I knew it was going to be like this I might have hung on to Anne. We never had sex but at least I got to sleep at night.”

“Coming back to targets…” I said, trying to steer the conversation back to work, but Clint interrupted me.

  “You never married?”

“Uh… no.” This wasn’t a conversation I was particularly comfortable having but I realized it was the only thing Clint wanted to talk about today and if there was one thing I’d learnt in business, it was that you gave the client what they wanted. Whatever that was. Keeping them happy sometimes took interesting turns, like this conversation, which I had expected to go in a completely different direction.

“I haven’t had too much luck in that department,” I told him rather honestly. “There’ve been girls, but somehow they’ve never stuck around long enough.”

“Sounds to me like you are lucky after all,” he said darkly. “Because when they do stick around, they suddenly tell you they want kids, and you need to sell your sports car because the kiddies booster seat doesn’t fit.”

“Sounds like you need a boy’s weekend,” I said. “Maybe some drinking, some gambling, definitely a hotel room to yourself for a whole night. It’ll be on us, a business weekend of course. What do you say?”

“When?” He couldn’t say yes fast enough.

The thought of a boy’s weekend cheered him up and he sounded more upbeat. By the end of the call, we had set a date for a night on the town.

The day just kept getting weirder and weirder.

In the middle of the morning, Josie came by with the new intern. I recognized her straight away, it was the girl from the hotel room last summer. I had completely forgotten about the whole incident, me walking out stark naked as she was leaving. The look on her face! It was priceless! Really a funny situation, I hadn’t even realized I was naked until I saw the utter shock and dismay on her face.

I was ready to laugh about it now, to be honest, I was looking forward to a bit of lightheartedness after that conversation with Clint.

But, again, it seemed, no fun for me.

As soon as the young and lovely Belle Scuziak saw me, her eyes widened in horror and disbelief. Her face turned bright pink, as if she had walked into a sauna. She was mortified, that much was obvious.

I tried to lighten the mood with a joke, and she sort of took a step back, as if I had threatened her somehow.

  I couldn’t believe my eyes.

The girl was acting as if I had somehow harassed her or behaved improperly towards her. It was a funny moment, surely, she could see that?!

But before I could make her aware of that, my phone rang, and I had to get it.

I tried to go over to see her a few times, but each time she shrank from me like I had done something to her. It was not on.

I went to see Josie and told her to get rid of the girl.

  “Belle? Why?”

  Josie looked at me, surprised.

“She is totally immature and clearly not ready for this job,” I said calmly. “I’m not sure how she got this position in the first place?”

Josie got up from behind her desk and walked around to face me. She was frowning.

“Belle made a very good impression at the interview. She had some great ideas for improving company morale.”
