ALIAS
Phil, Shaun, and I look at Bishop and Faith as we stand inside Shaun’s living room.
I look at Faith, Shaun and Phil as they are watching Bishop admire and examine a couple of items in Shaun’s living room. Bishop looks at a picture on Shaun’s living room wall and he gets a call over his earpiece.
Shaun, Phil, and I look at Bishop and Phil asks Bishop, “Everything okay?”
Bishop replies to the person on the other end of his earpiece and Bishop asks Phil, “I’m sorry, what did you ask?”
“Everything okay?” asks Phil to Bishop.
“Yes, everything is fine, my group is just making sure that I’m secure,” answers Bishop.
I look over Bishop’s suit, shirt, and shoes, and I see that he’s way over dressed for the state of the world.
“What’s up with the suit?” asks Shaun to Bishop.
Bishop smiles and asks, “You don’t like it?”
Shaun is about to answer and Faith interrupts, “Enough with the small talk. Let’s get everything out on the table, so we can move this along.”
We all look at Faith, and Bishop says, “I agree, I have limited time for this meeting, so getting right to the meat and potatoes is a good idea.”
“You want the Pastor’s body, right?” asks Phil.
“Correct,” answers Bishop.
“Ummm guys, do you know there are two drones flying over our neighborhood?” asks Matt over the radio.
I look at Bishop and Bishop says, “They aren’t going to attack, unless I trigger them to attack.”
Phil and Shaun look at Bishop and Bishop can sense the tension in the room.
“S, have the drones move outside of the neighborhood walls,” says Bishop into his earpiece.
“Are you sure B?” asks S into Bishop’s earpiece.
“Yes, do it now,” answers Bishop.
“Did the drones move away?” asks Phil into his radio to Matt.
“I don’t know, I went back inside my house once I saw the drones. I didn’t know if they were DK’s or not,” answers Matt over the radio.
“They just flew out of the neighborhood, but they are right by our front gate,” says Brody over the radio.
“Is the position of the drones in a more satisfactory location for you now?” asks Bishop to me.
I just stare at Bishop and try to feel him out. I notice that Bishop is confident and somewhat cocky.
“What’s the point of the drones?” Are we that big of a threat?” I ask Bishop.
Bishop looks directly at me as we stand across from each other inside Shaun’s living room and Bishop answers, “Just taking our precautions. My group and I are always prepared for anything and everything.”
“So, if we don’t give you the Pastor’s body, you will attack us with your drones?” asks Shaun to Bishop.
Faith let’s out a sigh of frustration and I notice that she is annoyed.
“We’ll give you the Pastor’s body, but I want some answers first,” I say to Bishop.
Faith rolls her eyes, and I see that she doesn’t like that I’m not just giving Bishop the Pastor’s body.
I look directly at Faith and with a stern tone say, “I want answers first and then you’ll get his body. Is that okay with you?”
Faith looks at me, but doesn’t answer.
“Ask your questions, and I’ll provide answers,” says Bishop to me.
I gather my thoughts and I’m about to ask my first question when Phil asks, “Is Bishop your real name?”
“No,” answers Bishop.
“Why do they call you Bishop?” asks Phil.
“It’s an alias,” answers Bishop.
“Who are you with?” asks Phil to Bishop.
“The church,” answers Bishop.
“Nice bulletproof suit for a person who belongs to a church,” replies Phil.
“Your suit is bulletproof?” asks Shaun.
“Among other things,” answers Bishop.
“Why do you want the Pastor’s body?” I ask Bishop.
“Confirmation that he’s really gone,” answers Bishop.
“But who cares if he’s gone?” I ask.
“My leader cares,” answers Bishop.
“I doubt the people from the church care if he’s gone,” says Shaun.
Bishop smiles, but doesn’t reply.
“What’s with the American flag pin?” asks Phil to Bishop.
“It’s a pin,” answers Bishop.
“Where is Faith’s daughter?” I ask Bishop.
“I don’t know specifics, but I’m going to look into it after I take the Pastor’s body back to the coroner’s lab at HQ,” answers Bishop.
“Where is HQ? Is it MacDill?” asks Phil.
“It’s classified,” answers Bishop.
The black smartwatch on Bishop’s left wrist beeps and Bishop says, “You guys have five minutes left, before I need to leave.”
“Or what?” asks Phil to Bishop.
“Or nothing, I’m leaving in five minutes,” answers Bishop.
“Where is the Pastor’s body?” asks Faith.
I look at Phil and Shaun and say, “Let’s talk privately.”
I exit Shaun’s living room and enter Shaun’s garage with Phil and Shaun.
“What’s up Ry?” asks Phil.
“What do we do? Do we just give him the Pastor’s body?” I ask.
“I think we have to, what do you want with his body anyway?” answers Shaun.
“We have no bargaining power after we give him the body though,” I say.
Phil says, “I think we give him the body, but we take our time with it.”
“But who is going to get the body?” asks Shaun.
Phil and I look at Shaun and Shaun asks, “What the fuck guys?”
“I want to press him for more answers, and I think Phil and I are better suited to do that,” I say to Shaun.
“Yeah, yeah,” replies Shaun.
“Go get help from JJ and bring the body here, but take your time,” says Phil to Shaun.
“I’m taking my time alright, carrying a frozen dead body around is not something I’m in any rush to go do,” replies Shaun.
“Let’s go back inside and get more answers,” I say, and I go back into Shaun’s house with Phil and Shaun.
“Everything okay?” asks Bishop to me.
“Yeah, we were talking to our people to get the Pastor’s body for you,” I answer.
“Excellent,” replies Bishop.
“I’ll bring the Pastor’s body back here to the driveway,” says Shaun and Shaun starts to walk towards his front door.
“Faith go with him,” says Bishop.
Shaun stops walking and looks at me and Phil and Faith says to Shaun, “Come on, let’s go.”
“It’s fine,” I say to Shaun and Shaun exits his house with Faith.
“Good idea stalling to get more time and answers,” says Bishop to me and Phil.
I’m taken back by Bishop’s statement and Phil says, “You could hear us in the garage.”
“Yeah, I heard everything you said, and I’m fine with it,” replies Bishop.
I see something rotate and constrict in Bishop’s eyes and I wonder what I just saw.
Bishop blinks and his eyes look normal now.
“Can I ask you two a question?” asks Bishop to Phil and me.
Phil and I don’t answer Bishop and Bishop asks, “Are you two familiar with the DNA company URDNA?”
“Yeah, somewhat,” I answer.
“Have you ever used their services before?” asks Bishop.
“My wife and I haven’t, but my father did,” I answer.
“What is his name?” asks Bishop.
I’m curious to why Bishop asked that question and I see Bishop reach inside his left suit jacket pocket for something.
Phil is about to reach for his pistol, that’s in his right hip holster, but he stops as we b
“Easy Phil, I’m only going to log some information into my tablet,” says Bishop as he turns on his tablet.
“You want me to help Shaun with the body?” asks JJ over our radio.
Phil quickly grabs his radio off his belt and exits Shaun’s living room.
I see Bishop look at the room that Phil just entered and I notice two clear semicircles have appeared around both of Bishop’s green iris’s as Phil closes the bedroom door he just entered.
The two clear semicircles in Bishop’s eyes rotate and then constrict.
“Is there a problem Bishop?” I ask.
“No problem, just waiting on your father’s name,” answers Bishop as Bishop taps something on his tablet and slightly turns his head and positions his left ear towards the bedroom that Phil is in.
Phil exits the bedroom and Bishop asks, “How did those two men die?”
Phil doesn’t answer Bishop and says to me, “Faith is causing some problems with Shaun, but they are okay.”
“Faith just wants answers about her daughter,” says Bishop.
I look at Bishop and I see that he’s looking directly at Phil and I and his green eyes look normal now.
“What’s up with your eyes?” I ask Bishop.
“They are green,” jokingly replies Bishop.
“You are pretty good at dodging questions, but you know what I mean. I see that you have had some sort of improvements done to them,” I say to Bishop.
Bishop smiles, but doesn’t answer.
“What’s your father’s name Ryan?” asks Bishop.
“Why does that matter?” I ask.
“You said he used the services of URDNA and I want to check our system to see if his genetic material was biohacked or used in any valuable manner,” answers Bishop.
“Robert Briggs, Robert Walter Briggs was his name,” I say to Bishop.
Bishop writes my father’s name on his tablet and asks, “Is he deceased?”
“Yes,” I answer.
“I’m sorry for your loss,” replies Bishop.
“What about you Phil? Did you or anyone you know use the services of URDNA?” asks Bishop.
“I did not, but I think Shaun and Laura did and Matt and Kylie did also,” answers Phil.
“What are their full names?” asks Bishop in almost like a robotic automated voice.
Phil gives Bishop the full names of Shaun, Lisa, Kylie, and Matt.
“Isn’t URDNA an O2U company?” asks Phil to Bishop.
“That doesn’t really matter anymore, but yes it’s public record that O2U owns URDNA,” answers Bishop.
“What matters then?” asks Phil to Bishop.
Bishop is about to answer Phil, when we hear Faith shout outside of Shaun’s house, “Bishop, we got his freaking body!”
Bishop puts away his tablet, looks at Phil and me, and says, “It was a pleasure meeting you both. I hope we meet again.”
Bishop exits Phil’s house and Phil and I exit right behind him.
“Are you sure it’s his body?” asks Bishop to Faith.
“I have no idea, as you can see, he’s wrapped in a body bag,” answers Faith.
“We only have one body in our freezer,” says Shaun.
“How about in the ground around here?” asks Bishop as he looks at Shaun.
Bishop says something into his earpiece, and I hear a drone come flying over to our direction.
“Don’t be alarmed, one of our drones is going to take the body away,” says Bishop.
Bishop picks up the body bag that is lying on Shaun’s driveway and he drags it into the dirt on Shaun’s front yard.
“Everyone stand clear from the body,” says Bishop as he steps off Shaun’s front yard grass and over towards Faith who is standing in Shaun’s driveway.
I look up and see a different drone, that’s larger than the two that I saw before with Bishop. A light, from the drone, shines directly onto the body bag, the bottom of the drone opens and something comes out from the bottom of the drone. It’s a mechanical arm and the arm picks up the body bag and pulls it up to the bottom of the drone.
“Correct, it’s only the one bag for pickup,” says Bishop into his earpiece.
The drone that picked up the body bag flies away from Shaun’s house and we are in shock at what just happened.
“How do you know the drone will be safe? Where is the drone going?” asks Phil to Bishop.
“HQ is only about one hundred miles away, the drone should be there in minutes,” answers Bishop.
“Now, I want to know about my daughter,” says Faith to Bishop.
“First we’ll check out the body that was given to us and then we’ll look into what happened to your daughter,” replies Bishop.
Faith doesn’t like Bishop’s reply and I see that Faith is reaching for her handgun and I say to Bishop, “But we gave you the body without a problem. Can you give Faith something in return?”
Faith looks at me and she brings her hand away from her handgun.
Bishop turns around, looks at Faith, and says, “Good idea not grabbing your gun. For that, I’ll do a quick check on my tablet.”
Faith stares at Bishop as he touches his tablet screen and types in Rachel’s full name in a search box on his tablet.
A file for Rachel comes up on Bishop’s tablet screen and Bishop opens the file and says, “Your daughter was at the stadium, her samples showed antibodies, and she was taken…”
“Where was she taken?” asks Faith as Bishop looks at his tablet and waits for the large file to finish loading.
“The Island, she was taken to the Island,” answers Bishop.
“Island? What the fuck is the Island?” asks Shaun.
“That’s classified, but she looks to be at the Island, at least her last logged in location was the Island,” answers Bishop.
“Where is this island?” asks Faith.
“I’ll tell you more about it when we take you back to the Stadium,” answers Bishop.
Bishop and Faith start to walk away from Shaun’s driveway.
“What happens next?” I shout to Bishop as he walks with Faith down the middle of the street away from Shaun’s house.
“We’ll be in touch, or we won’t! No way to tell just yet!” shouts Bishop.
“Sir, do I let them leave?” asks Brody over the radio.
“Are we just letting them leave Ry?” asks Phil to me.
I think about what to do and decide we have no other option but to let them leave.
“Yeah, let them go through the front gate,” I answer Brody over the radio.
Our front entrance guards open our front gate and Bishop and Faith leave Citrus Oaks.
Matt comes running over to us as we stand on Shaun’s driveway.
“What the fuck was that all about?” asks Matt.
“They came for the Pastor’s body and we gave it to them,” answers Phil.
“Why did they want his body?” asks Matt.
“Who knows?” answers Phil.
“I’m just glad it’s out of the freezer, it was weird knowing that we had a body on ice in here,” says Shaun.
“Did JJ finish up with the other bodies?” asks Phil.
“I don’t think so, I think he feels bad about killing them,” answers Shaun.
“We aren’t burying them inside here,” says Phil.
“I don’t think JJ was planning on burying them, but what else can we do with the bodies?” asks Shaun.
“Dump them somewhere, feed them to the zombies, just get them out of here,” I answer.
Phil, Shaun, and Matt look at me and I can feel them staring at me.
“What?” I ask the guys.
“What did Bishop tell you?” asks Shaun.
“Not much, but he brought up the company URDNA again, what do you guys know about them?” I answer.
“They were pretty great, Lisa and I used them to find out our lineage and background,” answers Shaun.
“Just making sure you aren’t related?” jokes Phil.
“Kylie and I used them also, my whole family did actually,” says Matt.
“Even Nicole?” asks Phil.
“Yeah, Derrick and Nicole both did,” answers Matt.
“Did you do it Ry?” asks Shaun.
“Lauren and I were going to, we have the kit somewhere in the house, but we never sent it in,” I answer Shaun.
“Didn’t O2U and URDNA get in some pretty big trouble for something? Something about using DNA samples without people’s permission? Weren’t there like hundreds of lawsuits?” asks Phil.
