“My thoughts exactly. We need more guns, more ships.”
“I think I could help with the cruiser.” Anna interrupted, looking up from the tablet.

“My crew are expert mechanics. When we were on the refueling station, we were often asked to make small repairs and adjustments on the fly. When we got out, we had to do even more retrofits to the frigates we stole just to keep them flying.”
“You’re full of surprises.” Kayden said, smiling at her. “Thank you. We could use the help, and it really means a lot to me.”

Within a few minutes, they were crowded around a view screen in the tower along with Selina, Sam, Daniel, and the council. The screen was showing a woman with brown hair that was streaked with grey. “Sam, eloquent as always.” Beth acknowledged her with a sneer. “Look, trust me or don’t trust me but don’t waste my time. We’ve got a situation here and could use your help, but I don’t have time to spend on meaningless shit.”

“Yesterday we received a transmission from Malachi Black. It involved the usual death threats and demands, but this time he gave a specific timeline. “Wait, what? Hold on Ms. Weir, let me confer with the other leaders.” Kayden said, putting the call on mute and turning off the video for a moment.
“Ashley, we can’t.” Kayden said. “As much as I want to help them, if our fleet gets decimated then we can’t go after their shipyard. They’re trying to win one battle. We’re trying to win the war.”
“I don’t think the two are mutually exclusive.” Ashley countered. “If we team up with Port Vega and defend them, we’ll take out a significant portion of their fleet while we’re at it. Then we counterattack, and go right for the heart.”
“That’s a bold strategy.” Selina said thoughtfully. “It relies on you not just repelling the attack though – you’d need to destroy a lot of them.”
“I’ve spent enough time studying them, I know their weaknesses. I’ve got a few ideas to fortify Port Vega’s too, make it a hardened target. We can take them, Kayden.” Ashley insisted.
