CAPTURE
Phil and I enter Shaun’s living room with Sal. As I step next to Shaun’s living room sofa, I notice Sal checking out the objects around Shaun’s living room and photos on the walls.
Sal doesn’t seem impressed with Shaun’s house as he looks at a picture that is hanging on the wall.
“Does the cop still live here?” asks Sal as he looks at the picture of Ray, Stephanie, TJ, and Odin.
“No,” I answer Sal.
Sal chuckles, smiles, turns towards me and Phil and says, “Funny that you brought me into a cop’s house.”
“I’m a cop,” responds Phil.
Sal looks at Phil and replies, “I don’t have a problem with the police. Well some of them I do, and some I actually like and do business with.”
There is an awkward tension in the room now as Sal looks at Phil and me as we stand across Shaun’s living room from each other.
“Can I get something to drink?” asks Sal.
“Sure, we have water and water,” answers Phil as he stares at Sal.
“Guess I’ll take a water,” replies Sal with a smug smile on his face.
Phil goes into Shaun’s kitchen and Sal looks at me.
“I thought you would reciprocate the same level of hospitality I gave you guys when you came for dinner the other night,” says Sal as Sal sits down in Shaun’s living room recliner chair.
Phil comes back into the living room and hands Sal a bottle of natural spring water.
Sal looks at the bottle of water and sees that it’s spring water from Pebble Springs and he seems unhappy with the brand of water.
I ask Sal if everything’s okay.
Sal asks, “Do you have sparkling or carbonated water?”
“No, that’s all we have,” answers Phil as he walks over to me.
I feel like Sal is being difficult on purpose or maybe this is just how he is.
“Now fellas, I feel like there’s all this tension and hostility in this room right now,” says Sal.
“Well, we weren’t really expecting you and didn’t know what was going on since the last time we met,” I reply to Sal.
“For the lack of communication, I apologize, but that information you hold in your hand was tough to get,” says Sal.
I look down at the folder that’s in my right hand and Phil asks Sal, “What’s the information and where is Jacob?”
“It’s all in there,” answers Sal.
I look at Sal and Sal tells me to open the folder.
I open the folder and see a close-up picture of Jacob standing next to an unknown person on a beach. “Where is Jacob in this photo?” I ask Sal.
“At an island not that far away from here,” answers Sal.
“Which island? The Island?” I ask Sal as I hand the picture of Jacob standing on the beach to Phil.
“The Island? There are tons of islands all around Florida, in the Caribbean, and in the Bahamas,” replies Sal.
“Is Jacob still where this picture was taken?” asks Phil to Sal.
“No, he’s been moving around. Right now we don’t know his exact location, but my sources will keep me informed when he turns up again. Hopefully, they can capture more photos and intel for us,” answers Sal.
As Sal answers Phil, I see two more pictures in the folder and I take them out. Sal sees me take the two pictures out of the folder and he says, “Those two pictures show who is around Jacob.”
I examine the pictures and I see Jacob on a beach and he is shaking hands with an unknown man in a very nice dark suit. The dark suit the unknown man is wearing is a three-piece suit that looks very similar to the one that Bishop was wearing when he came here with Faith.
I hand the pictures to Phil and ask, “Tell me what you see in these photos?”
Sal and I make eye contact and I ask Sal, “Is DK with Jacob?”
“My sources didn’t see him there with Jacob, but my guess is that he is back home with his sister,” answers Sal.
Phil, while looking at the pictures I just handed him, says, “Jacob looks to be connected with Bishop’s people. The guy shaking hands with Jacob looks like he’s wearing a similar suit like Bishop was wearing.”
Sal smiles and says, “I knew you two were good.”
Phil hands me back the pictures and I place them back into the folder.
“You can keep the pics, and like I said before, I’m going to see what other nuggets my sources can find,” says Sal to Phil and me.
“I heard you say that DK had a sister. Where is she?” asks Phil to Sal.
“She’s most likely back in the Conquerors compound,” answers Sal.
“Where’s that?” I ask Sal.
“Man, you guys ask a lot of questions,” jokes Sal.
“Just being thorough is all,” I reply to Sal.
Sal stands up from his chair and Phil and I watch as Sal walks towards Shaun’s living room window.
“What’s your plan for Ybor?” asks Phil to Sal.
Sal, while looking out Shaun’s living room window, asks, “What’s your plan for Ybor?”
“We don’t have one yet, but our plan needs to be pretty damn good as Ybor is totally overrun by the dead,” I answer Sal.
Sal looks at me, but doesn’t respond.
“Turn on the TV and we’ll show you,” I say to Sal.
Sal looks at the large TV in Shaun’s living room and picks up a remote next to the TV.
“That’s not the remote for the TV,” says Phil.
Sal doesn’t listen to Phil and tries repeatedly to turn on the TV with the wrong remote.
“That remote is for something else, use the power button on the TV,” I say to Sal.
Sal struggles to turn on the TV, so I intervene and turn the TV on and play the video that shows Ybor.
“How did you guys get this?” asks Sal as the video of Ybor plays on the TV.
“You aren’t the only one with connections around here,” answers Phil.
Sal watches the video on the TV and he’s completely taken back by what he’s seeing. “That’s my uncle’s restaurant and there is his bar,” says Sal as he sees glimpses of different businesses, restaurants, and bars that are still standing in Ybor on the TV.
“What’s your plan to safely remove the zombies from Ybor?” I ask Sal.
Sal keeps watching the TV and he doesn’t answer my question.
“Everything okay in their uncle?” asks Carmine over Sal’s radio.
The video on the TV ends and Sal keeps looking at the TV. Carmine calls for Sal again over Sal’s radio and that irritates Sal. “I’m fine, everything is fine in here,” answers Sal into his radio to Carmine with some anger in his voice.
“You guys did great getting this video,” says Sal to Phil and me as he turns around and looks at us.
I notice a big smile on Sal’s face and I ask Sal, “But how can we clear out Ybor without getting anyone hurt?”
Sal, who is still smiling, answers, “We’ll come up with something. I have faith in you, both of you.”
Phil looks at me with an annoyed expression.
“We aren’t doing this alone, and we aren’t doing anything without a legit safe plan for everyone involved,” I say to Sal.
Sal, who must have not liked my tone, looks at me and with hostility in his voice, says, “I understand your concern, but pawns will always be lost Ryan. Losing people is inevitable.”
I feel the anger in Sal’s voice and feel like he’s trying to intimidate me. Sal’s intimidation attempt makes me want to answer him back with my own hostility. “Well you can forget your fucking bullshit order to clear out a fucking place that has thousands of zombies in it,” I say as I glare straight into Sal’s eyes.
Phil and I can feel the tension between Sal and me as we stare at each other and I’m sure Sal feels the tension as well.
I hear some commotion outside near our front entrance and I look out Shaun’s living room window.
Sal and Phil a
“Who are they?” asks Sal.
“Most likely our friends from the Haven,” I answer Sal.
“Sir, Bruce and the people from the Haven are here,” says Brody over the radio.
Phil grabs his radio and answers Brody, “We are still in our meeting, have them start unloading.”
Sal hears Phil answer Brody over his radio and he asks, “What are they unloading?”
I look at Sal and answer, “What’s your plan for Ybor?”
Sal smirks at me.
“Why is it important to keep Ybor intact?” asks Phil.
Sal sees Bruce exit from a truck, he chuckles, and says, “You guys are friends with every type of group. Every type of group that’s left I guess.”
“Why can’t you just answer our questions? We aren’t asking you anything too difficult,” I say to Sal.
Sal moves away from Shaun’s living room window, nods his head, and says to Phil and me, “You’re right... I haven’t given you much… The truth is that I’m not sure how to safely remove all the dead from Ybor without destroying my family’s restaurant and other businesses that mean a lot to me.”
“So it’s about preserving things?” I ask Sal.
“Among other things, but yes. Ybor means a lot to me. I’ve worked too damn hard to lose it to the dead. It was bad enough that we almost lost it to the Colombians,” answers Sal.
“But it’s just a couple streets of buildings and businesses, there can’t be much value in them now,” says Phil.
“That’s where you’re wrong, things matter to people. Ybor is much more than just a couple streets in Downtown Tampa that has bars, entertainment, and restaurants. It’s an important historical site to Tampa Bay,” replies Sal.
“Plus there are secret tunnels that can be used to smuggle things and people around the city,” I say.
“How do you know about the tunnels?” asks Sal.
I don’t answer Sal and just smile at him.
Sal looks at Phil and asks, “Don’t you value anything in this world?”
“My friends and family,” answers Phil.
“What about your SUV, does that mean anything to you? It’s just a vehicle, right?” asks Sal to Phil.
“How do you know about Betty?” asks Phil to Sal.
Sal, with a devious look on his face, answers Phil, “I might even know where she is.”
Phil has a curious look on his face as he looks at Sal.
“Betty could help clear out the dead,” I say.
“See I knew you guys would keep coming up with ideas,” replies Sal with a smirk on his face.
“Uncle, a call came in from back home saying that there’s a potential problem at the Convention Center,” says Carmine over Sal’s radio.
Sal looks concerned as he reaches for his radio.
Phil and I notice that Sal looks concerned, and I’m intrigued at what is going on at the Convention Center.
“I need to be leaving now fellas, but good work with the video and surveillance,” says Sal to me and Phil.
Sal starts to walk towards Shaun’s front door and Phil asks, “What’s the next steps here? Where is Betty?”
Sal stops walking towards Shaun’s front door, turns towards Phil and me, and answers, “I’ll be in touch, but trust that I’ll have a plan for Ybor, Jacob, and anything that comes our way.”
“What do you want us to do next though?” I ask Sal.
“Keep gathering intel and see if you can get me a meeting with the Ghosts and the Oriental guy that just came into your community now,” answers Sal.
Sal, Phil, and I exit Shaun’s house.
“What about Jacob?” I ask Sal as I walk behind Sal as he walks down Shaun’s front lawn.
“When I get more information, better information, I’ll share it with you. You can keep the pictures and folder,” says Sal as he steps off Shaun’s front lawn.
Sal stops walking, turns around, and says, “Oh, and The Conquerors compound is in Sarasota. They have most of Sarasota under their control now.”
Carmine whispers something to Sal and Sal and his people get into their Humvees.
Sal rolls down his Humvee window and shouts, “Brad and Eric, we’re leaving! Get in or find another way home!”
Brad and Eric say goodbye to Jon and all of us and they enter the other Humvee that Sal is not in.
Sal shouts to Phil, me, Lauren, Jon, and Jaws Junior, “It was good to see all of you again! Stay well my friends!”
The two Humvees drive away from Shaun’s house and they make their way towards our main entrance.
Phil comes over to me and we watch Sal’s Humvees slow down as they approach Bruce, Bruce’s trucks, and the Haven Warriors that came with Bruce.
“Do I let them leave sir?” asks Brody over the radio.
“Yeah, they are free to go,” I answer Brody over Phil’s radio.
Sal’s two Humvees exit Citrus Oaks.
“How did the meeting go?” asks Lauren as she walks over to Phil and me with Jon and Jaws Junior.
Phil gets a call over the satellite phone.
“Who’s that?” I ask Phil.
“The Ghosts,” answers Phil and then Phil answers his satellite phone.
“Saba wants to know if you want him to follow Sal’s Humvees?” asks Phil.
“Where is he?” I ask Phil.
Phil speaks with Saba and Phil answers me, “He could use a drone to follow Sal’s vehicles.”
“As long as he’s safe,” I answer Phil.
Phil relays the message to Saba into his satellite phone and Jon asks me, “Is everything okay Ry?”
“Yeah, Sal didn’t give us much, but he had pictures of Jacob on some beach,” I answer Jon and then I hand Jon the folder with the pictures of Jacob in it.
Jon and Jaws Junior look at the pictures.
“Did you guys come up with a plan or anything for Ybor?” asks Lauren to me.
Phil ends his call with Saba.
“Not really, Sal didn’t give us much. It felt like he was feeling us out and testing us,” I answer Lauren.
“Saba said he’ll keep a drone or two on Sal’s vehicles for a little bit. I wonder what is going on at the Convention Center?” says Phil.
“How do you know when these photographs were taken?” asks Jaws Junior as he looks at the pictures of Jacob.
“I don’t know,” I answer Jaws Junior.
“How did Sal get these pictures?” asks Jon.
“He said his source got them,” I answer Jon.
“Sir, the trucks are just about unloaded, where do you want us to put everything?” asks Brody over the radio.
“I’ll be right there,” I answer Brody over Phil’s radio.
“What are you guys thinking about Sal’s pictures of Jacob?” I ask Jon and Jaws Junior as I walk over to them.
“It just seems like these pictures could have been taken whenever, and the quality is too good for someone that was spying on Jacob,” answers Jon.
I think about what Jon just said and reply, “Well it’s the latest information we have, but I’m not going on some wild goose chase to find that asshole because of these photos. Sal said he’ll let me know when he finds out more information.”
“Just be careful. Sal and his people seem like con artists,” says Jaws Junior.
“I appreciate the input, Sal definitely could be trying to play us,” I reply to Jaws Junior.
Lauren says goodbye to us and goes into our house as Phil, Jon, Jaws Junior, and I walk down to talk with Bruce at our main entrance.
Bruce asks, “Who were those people in the Humvees?”
“Sal and his people from Channelside. Do you know them?” asks Phil to Bruce.
“No, but my patrols have seen their vehicles around before,” answers Bruce.
“Sir, should we put one of the multi-barrel guns at each entrance?” asks Brody as he walks over to us.
“Is that something we can do?” I ask Bruce.
“We can mount them at each entrance, but we’ll need something very secure to mount them on or stand them on,” answers Bruce.
“We can help with securing them at the West Entrance,” says Jaws Junior.
“Thank you,” I reply to Jaws Junior.
“What’s this we crap,” jokes Jon.
Jon, Jaws Junior, and a couple Haven Warriors load one of the two multi-barrel guns onto the back of a Haven truck and they drive the multi-barrel gun to the West Entrance.
