Prologue
Petal
Maxi was recovering and assured me he would be alright and that I needed a change. I’d known he was only saying that because of the talk we had about my ex. I didn’t know why some men just couldn’t deal with independent women. Blue had been nice in the beginning but then as time passed he’d changed. The constant badgering of wanting to know my every move, which quickly turned into him popping into the place I worked at different times of the day to make sure I was at work. When we were out, if one guy looked at me too long he was in his face, it was embarrassing. And I’d had enough.
The call came in on Maxi being shot and I quit my job on the spot, went to my place, if you could call the room I rented by the month at a motel as a place, and packed my shit, got on my bike, and headed toward my brother. Along the way when I had stopped for gas, I called Blue, told him I was moving and it was over between us, that maybe he should look into getting a hamster, they didn’t talk back and he would always know where it was. He’d yelled and demanded to know where I was going. I’d told him anywhere he wasn’t and ended the call.
Blue called, left messages, texted, it had gone on for a week, then had suddenly stopped. Not a word from him. I didn’t ask Maxi, there were some things you didn’t want to know, but it had been too incidental that he’s stopped a couple of days after I had told Maxi and Kink about it. Not like if I had confronted them they would have told me the truth.
So when Kink had mentioned a job as a piercer on the east coast and he had grown up with the men and they were stand up guys, I’d applied for my New York certificate and repacked my bike and took off.
I’d traveled for a week from the west coast and had reached the Bronx late evening the night before. Checked into the motel Kink had told me about, dumped my stuff, then headed out to check out the area and to locate the place called Slinging Ink so I would know where it was. It’d been easy to find with Kink’s directions and I have to admit the place surprised me. The two story building had the look of time but with a new face. Someone had spent a good chunk of money restoring it. I saw the tattoo shop on one side and the gym on the other. The upstairs held the offices of the security business Kink had told me about. Lights were on in all three places and I could see people moving around in the shop and the gym through the front windows. I had thought to stop and an introduce myself but the trip had taken it out of me and all I wanted was food, maybe a beer, and sleep.
The Italian restaurant was crowded when I stepped up to the hostess station, “Anything open at bar or a table for one?” I asked the young girl.
“No, ma’am. I’m sorry. If you want to wait, something might come available soon. We normally aren’t like this, it just that the Cabonary family reserved half the place for their Nonna Lissandra’s ninetieth birthday.” The young girl looked around the room as if to try to conjure up me a seat. I would have been grateful if she could have but it wasn’t a big deal.
“No worries, I can grab something down the street. I’m from out of town, do you have any recommendations? I had enough fast food on the road so I was looking for a hot meal tonight,” I told the girl.
“Excuse me, darlin’, if you don’t care to sit with strangers, my friend and I would be glad to share our table with you.” Damn, I know I should have been annoyed that someone was eavesdropping and then trying to take advantage of a place being full to hit on a female patron. Plus it was nice to know the men on the east coast were no different than the ones on the west. The world was full of self-centered pricks and I had every intention of voicing just that when I turned around to the man but instead I found myself looking at a chest. Now granted I’ve gotten used to having to look up to meet people’s eyes, it happens when you are barely five three, but that wasn’t what gave me pause. The t-shirt was strained across the chest that I couldn’t seem to pull my eyes away from, leaving not much to the imagination of what lay behind it—a very well-muscled man. So fuck it, I took it all in with my eyes on their journey up to his face, which I hoped fit the body and the deep sexy voice that came out of it. Long tatted arms, muscled, and attached to broad shoulders was next as I worked my way up and damn if my head wasn’t tilted all the way back when I reached the man’s face. Holy shit, I’d grown up around men who were larger than life, but this man was flat out gorgeous. Square chin, high cheekbones, green eyes, and a face framed by brown hair with a tint of dark red going through it and long enough that it curled at the tips. The man had hit the gene pool lottery. When he cleared his throat I realized I had never spoke and lost my previous annoyance.
“Umm...thanks, but I don’t have a problem going somewhere else.”
“Bianca here can tell you that me,” he pointed to the table off to left where a man sat, “and friend are not local serial killers and if that isn’t enough for you, the family over there celebrating has known my family for over forty years.”
Good God, the man watching us intently smiled as
if he’d heard his friend. And he was just a big as the man in front of me but the opposite with blond hair and from where I was standing his eyes looked blue. He too was panty dropping handsome. I wanted to asked what was in the freaking water here.
I turned back to hostess and smiled at me like she knew what I had been thinking. “Two of the nicest men you will meet around here. Women would fight to sit with them and eat.” The girl looked at the man and winked. Yeah, she would probably be one of those women if the guy would let her. Hell, for all I knew, she could had been the cheese in the man sandwich.
“Come on, sit with us, get yourself something to eat. You look beat.” He smiled down at me.
“Well that is a hellava pick up line.” I laughed and so did he.
“Ah now, give me some credit. I know you don’t know me, so you are going to have to take my word that I could come up with a better line than that.” I couldn’t believe I actually was considering joining them.
“I just bet you could.”
“Come over to the table and we can discuss the good versus the bad pick up lines.” The man was too cute for his own good and mine because damn if I didn’t join the two men.
Dinner with the two had been one of the best non-date with strangers I had ever had. We’d talked about the area, neither man got nosey and asked personal stuff and neither did I. By the end of the meal I found myself liking the two and let them talk me into going to a pub that they frequented. I’d like to say I got plastered but it would be a lie. I had followed on my bike so I had only nursed on one beer for the couple hours we were there so I have no excuse for the fact I invited them back to my motel room where I then topped my night off with some of the best sex I’d ever had. I could tell these men had shared women before because they worked as a team. There’d been no inch of my skin that hadn’t been touch or kissed. I’d been around plenty of ménage couples but had never been in one before but as they took to new sexual heights, I’d wonder why I hadn’t. The night was what it was, a one-night stand. We’d done the deed and the two men left, no phone numbers exchanged, no last names, just one heck of a night. I fell asleep thinking that Maxi and Kink were right and that I would enjoy the east coast and the Bronx.
The next morning I got up, showered and headed to Slinging Ink, pulled in the opened spot in front of the place and headed toward the door, pushing it open.
“Who the fuck is Petal Denold?” was all I heard as I stepped in.
“That would be me. I’m your piercer,” I said as looked around the front of the shop. A handsome man stood in the front with a grin on his face as he looked me up and down. If I had to take a guess from what Kink had told me about his hometown and friends and family, that this one would have been Falon.
“Fuck me,” was said to my left where one man stood and another sat behind the counter. I couldn’t help the smartass comment that floated out from between my lips.
“Not until I get to know you, big guy.” If I could have pulled it back, I would have when the guy behind the counter raised his head and look at me directly.
I never thought twice about running into him again and by the look on his face as he stared back, said neither had he.
Chapter One
Bry
“Uh,” Michael said and looked at the woman, “I’m not sure you are in the right place.”
I looked at the woman who had entered the shop and damned if her presence didn’t hit me like a ton of bricks. She was small, hot, and my cock instantly got hard when her blue eyes swung to me. No fucking way was this happening, no chick ever affected me like this. My protective instincts came out, and I wanted to grab her and throw her over my shoulder and lock her in a room, all because I saw the way Falon was leering at her. Nope, she needed to leave.
Petal laughed, and I almost growled, shit her laugh was fucking cute. How was that possible? I glared at my brother intently, trying to get him to look at me. Maybe then he would get the message and stop talking to the woman. She was trouble, fuck, if they would look at her closely, she spelled TROUBLE.
“Well, Maxi Denold is my brother, from the Ops Warriors, he and Kink both said you were looking for a piercer and I was at loose ends so I applied for my license and hopped on the Harley and rode here.”
“Hell yeah, he told us about you! Awesome,” Falon said to the small woman. “Since you are licensed in New York now, you can start right away. We should get the marketing out there now, get people coming in. Oh, I need something pierced too, you know, we can discuss that later.”
“You are not having her pierce anything on your body, dickhead.” Petal’s head turned toward me and if I was intimidated by imps, the daggers shooting out of her eyes would’ve scared me. Instead it made me want to lay her over my lap and spank her ass red. Maxi had talked about his sister when he was here...bastard didn’t say she was a fucking knockout. He’d mention she was little but griped more about her attitude and how she could be a pain in the ass. Fucker left out some pertinent information on her and if he’d shown a picture of her, I wouldn’t be sitting here fixing to make a big ass of myself.
I broke eye contact with her and glared at my other brother who had the nerve to smirk. What the fuck was Falon thinking? Marketing? Piercing? Seriously? She was totally not staying, like not at all. They needed to get with the program. Why were they ignoring me, that was what I would like to know, ‘cause the glare usually worked with them. Little fuckers, it was as if they were taunting me to kick their asses and I would oblige them if they didn’t stop this now. How the fuck when she first walked in the door I hadn’t noticed her right off was beyond me.
Michael nodded, not even noticing my inner dilemma, and then said, “Shit, Kink sent me an email, sorry, I just remembered. Your qualifications are outstanding. I think you will make a good addition to the shop. He said you have some very good skills with a needle. I think it will make people more comfortable with you being female. I mean, who wants a guy holding your cock when you are getting stabbed, if it is gonna hurt, at least we should get one thrill out of it.”
I felt my eye twitch as I continued to glare at my brother, really? Why was everyone talking about her holding cocks, she wasn’t holding anyone’s cock, unless it was mine.
“Hey, we need to get some studs and stuff in here. Where do you normally order from?” Falon asked and I rolled my eyes. If he kept it up, I was so going to give him the beat down of his life.
“Think you are moving a little quick there, bro,” I said deeply and no shit, nobody paid attention, they didn’t even look in my direction this time. It was like I wasn’t in the room. They were talking about hiring a woman that walked in the door literally three minutes ago. My response had nothing to do with the fact I had known her longer, and if they found out how, I’d never live that down. If I was lucky she wouldn’t want to work here now either.
She was…too fucking hot to work here. We had men in here all the time, they would be too focused on her to get their tat, hell, my brothers apparently would be too focused on her to actually do their work. Hadn’t we talked about this? Fin and Tony were okay hiring females, but here? Nope. Not a chance in hell.
When the door opened and Fin walked in, the only thing I thought was thank God, because he actually had a good head on his shoulders, and it seemed Michael needed a voice of reason and someone who would deal with this. Michael would listen to Fin. I was ready to open my mouth and get him to side with me on this when Falon the dumbass spoke.
“Fin, this is Petal Denold, Maxi’s sister. She is our new piercer.”
Fin frowned, hell yeah, finally someone on my side. I waited for him to say it, let him be the bad guy, I had already tried to get them to fucking pay attention. Damn, they were acting like this was a done deal. This was so not a done deal, and she was not working here. She couldn’t. NOT. AT. ALL!
