“Bohhhb…” she managed, her vocal cords deceiving her. One side of her mouth drooped, unsupported, as if anesthetized or struck by Bell’s palsy.
“The reality is, I could turn you in to the cops, Tiffany, but we both know you’ve destroyed the weapon, that there is no evidence, no obvious motive with your crew gone. If they could even justify a charge, you’d get bailed out somehow, disappear even as the wafer-thin case goes down the drain. Or, like you say, you’d bat your big blue eyes at the judge, maybe disappear later with his wallet and keys.”
He headed towards the door. “And then you’ll do it again, to some other poor schmuck. Some cop, or security specialist, or kind-hearted nerdy dude like Arthur. And you won’t think twice before pulling that trigger, either. So we’re going to stop it before it can happen.”
“HMNNH!” she grunted, trying but unable to protest.
“If you’re wondering why I’m not wiping anything down…” He held up both palms. “… no prints.” He opened the door, took the “do not disturb” sign off the inside handle and placed it on the outside. Then he turned around and gave her a half-cupped wave. “Bye-bye, now.”
“MMMMHhhh!” Tiffany tried to scream, but nothing made it past her tightly shut lips.
Bob closed the door behind him and headed down the hall.
The Plaza was a swanky joint. But he had no intention of sticking around. Anyone with orange juice that good, he knew, was seriously out of his price range.
He had some money to collect, then he needed to get back to Philadelphia. He had a friend he needed to visit in hospital.
