I want to thank Jason Arkles for answering my questions about sculpting and letting me take a whack at one of your projects. Thanks for trusting me not to shatter it into pieces.

For my wonderful community of family and friends, to my parents and brother, Rodrigo, and to my incredible neighbors who helped us get through the flood, a million thanks and hugs and love from me.

To Andrew, Alistair, and August—you three are my whole life, and nothing means more to me than sharing this joyous, messy, hard, amazing existence with you. I love you forever, and ever, and ever. ♥

And to Jesus, for loving me for who and where I am.

  About the Type

This book was set in Bembo, a typeface originally cut by Francesco Griffo in 1495 during the height of the Italian Renaissance. His design was a departure from the common pen-drawn calligraphy of the day and became known for its subtle variations in letterforms, contributing to its elegance and legibility. Stanley Morrison, a Monotype executive and printing historian, revived Bembo in 1929. Bembo is still used today in various forms of media and is considered a classic typeface that carries history and tradition.
