“Seth, John, and their brother Logan, are on my team. Seth here is one of the best pilots we have,” Mack said.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Madison,” John said.

“Maddie.” Her voice sounded strong as she corrected, finally looking up at him.

The instant her eyes met his, time seemed to freeze. His heart slammed against his chest. He had to grip his seat to keep from slipping off. The hair on his arms stood on end, as if he had been struck by lightning.

He pulled himself together, hoping no one could see the internal struggle going on inside him. Instead, he flashed her a smile. “Maddie.”

Warmth spread throughout his body as she smiled back.

He was no longer paying attention to the rest of the conversation. All he knew was he would move heaven and Earth to protect her.

Seth nudged him and they stood on their feet.

“We’ve got to get going,” Seth said.

“Right. You both have a training schedule to keep,” Mack agreed.

“I hope to see you again, Maddie,” John said.

She nodded, blushing slightly. So he had an effect on her, too. Every cell in his body began to sing a happy tune.

Regardless how this mission played out, his life would never be the same.
