  “You hungry?”

  “Not really.”

  “Rena called.”

  “Okay.”

“I think you should get out of bed.”

  “I like the bed.”

  He snorted.

“My parents have always been there.”

  “I understand.”

  “They hate me so much.”

I sat up against the headboard, and the comforter fell below my breasts.

  “Eventually, they will come around.”

  Savio caressed my cheek.

  “I should call Rena.”

  “Yeah.”

  “Okay.”

He moved the cover back and helped me out of bed.

“Give it a few days and then contact her again.”

“Giving them another day will probably have them trying to disown me.” I chuckled.

  Same night.

I sipped the wine while listening to Rena complain about the latest issues she’d been having with some guy she met at the store. I looked around at the couples in love and wondered if I would ever experience such a love. Our waitress came and filled our glasses with wine.

“Sorry, my babbling is annoying you.”

  “Not your fault.”

“You wanted a night away from thinking about your parents.”

“Savio said to give it time.”

  “He’s right.”

We sat in a local restaurant owed by Savio.

“Weird to hear you agree with him.”

  “I know.”

  I blew out a breath.

  “Lost my appetite.

  “Try calling your dad.”

  “He’s working.”

“Then let me distract you with my love life.” She grinned, started on the latest dating issues.

  “Anything new?”

  She smiled wiggled her brows.

  “Tell me about them.”

“Nothing crazy, but a few dates around town.”

“I’m glad.” I bit my bottom lip.

Rena placed her hand on top of mine.

“Hey, things will work out with your folks.”

  “I hope so.”

My world has erupted into chaos.

  Days later.

As our bulletproof car drove through the early morning streets of Italy, McKayla stared at the buildings ahead and behind us. After I got home and surprised her with the trip, she fell asleep on the plane. When she asked if I really was taking a trip or doing business to cover it up, I felt like lying. I was on a trip for her; it didn’t feel good to be ignored and given one-word answers lazily for the past few days. The distance between us was aggravating. Since I had a taste of her, I wanted to take her again, but given the circumstances, she would probably fight me. The gate opened to our family home as the sun rosed, and I heard a small gasp from her lips in surprise.

  “This is your home?”

  “My family’s estate.”

  “You grew up here?”

“Off and on for the summers and family holidays.”

  “It’s really beautiful.”

“My grandparents passed it down to my father and mother.”

“Why are you sharing this with me?”

“I have business to take care of out here, and leaving you alone is not an option.”

“I stopped running, Savio,” she fussed. The car pulled up in front of the door, and the staff came out to greet us.

“Mr. and Mrs. Calabresi, welcome home,” the house manager Angelina said.

“Thank you, Angelina. This is my wife McKayla.”

“Hi, nice to meet you,” McKayla said.

“You’re gorgeous. Mr. Calabresi is a lucky man,” Angelina replied and smiled.

  “Thank you.”

“Come, I’ll show you your room. All of the staff is here for your pleasure.” Angelina motioned for McKayla and me to come.

“How many square feet is this place?”

McKayla’s eyes gazed around the front entryway. There were two winding staircases on opposite ends with paintings and artwork, along with statues, displayed around the room.

  “It looks like a castle.”

“Calabresi have held this home in their family for generations,” Angelina told me.

“I’m surprised people don’t get lost.”

“Angelina is going to show you to our room. You can freshen up, and then I can give you a tour, or you can sleep if you’re tired.”

  “Okay.”

“Is there anything special, sir, you’d like for breakfast?”

“No, the usual would be fine.”

McKayla looked back at me and softly smiled, and I watched her head upstairs to the room Angelina set for us.

McKayla looked up at me with a mixture of defiance and yet a need to be dominated. After breakfast, I took her on a ride on the back of the motorcycle that my mother hated we bought. When I presented the first activity, she pushed the helmet back toward my chest, and I chuckled as she complained about me doing this on purpose to kill her without anyone knowing.

  “Hold on to me tight.”

  “Where are you taking me?”

  “Sit tight and shut up.”

“Yes, Mr. Calabresi,” she teased and slid her arms around my waist. I started the motorcycle, charged it up, and zoomed out of the front long driveway of the home. “Aghhh! Slow down.”

I laughed and slowed a little at a minimum speed.

  “You’re being overdramatic.”

  “That’s not funny, Savio.”

I’d taken her through the local streets of Palermo so she could see what I grew up around and my lifestyle of food and fun from the locals. Enzo was in the car behind us as protection. Even though we were here in our family’s country, our enemies were everywhere. I parked in front of a shop, turned the bike off, and let her get off first. I helped remove her helmet.

  “It’s beautiful out here.”

  “We can walk from here.”

  “I didn’t bring my purse.”

  “Don’t insult me, McKayla.”

“You’re going to leave your bike here?”

“We won’t be long. This is a wine market we can check out.”

  “I love wine.”

“Maybe you can find something you like here.” I pushed the door open, and old-fashioned Italian music played in the background.

“Mr. Calabresi, you’re all set for your visit.”

  “Thank you, Marco.”

McKayla looped her hand in mine, and we walked through the back of the room toward the wine dispensary. They closed for the day to give us a private tour.

“The marble paintings are breathtaking.” She rubbed her hand across the stones of the wall.

“Here you go.” I handed her a glass of red wine.

  “You’re not drinking?”

  “Driving.”

“What are we doing after this?”

“A museum, then we have dinner.”

  “What’s the occasion?”

  “Just enjoy the break.”

“Can we get in the pool at your house?”

“If that’s what you want to do.”

McKayla leaned against my shoulder. The tour guide described how the wine company was established in 1945. It was a family-owned company, one that my family invested in, but I wouldn’t tell her that part as not to make her feel like this was a setup of some kind.

“I hate you!” she screeched when I dunked her in the water and kept her in my hold before letting her go. She was lounging outside by the pool, wearing a tiny, red thong bikini. She had never showed me what she bought when she went shopping with Rena, but I planned on burning this up when I get back home. Yesterday, we had a long day at the winery, museum, and dinner. So today was mostly chilling inside and getting to know each other better.

“I can add my wife to the list of my enemies now.”

“Do you know how long it takes to get my hair back to normal?” My head cocked at her comment.

  “Normal?”

  “Naturally, my hair is curly.”

  “What’s wrong with that?”

  She swam around me.

“Takes a long time to get hair straight.”

  “Why not wear it curly?”

“Because in my business, people won’t take me seriously if I look like a nineteen-year-old college student instead of a journalist.”

She’d only worn it straight, in a bun, or a ponytail around me. I could understand wanting to be seen in the right manner.

  “Try wearing your curls naturally.”

She swam over to the corner edge of the pool and kicked her feet up.

“Men, you have no clue how much work it takes for a woman to look good.”

I swam over to her. My men turned their backs and headed to the front entrance of the back door, giving us privacy. I placed both hands on either side of her, closing the distance, and stared into her eyes.

“My favorite time of the year is the holidays.”

“Why are you telling me this?”

I dropped my hand around her waist, moved it to her ass, and gripped her left cheek.

“We should get to know each other better.”

“But you said this wasn’t love. Right?”

McKayla licked her bottom lip, and I darted my eyes down to her chest, slid her bikini top to the side, and noticed her erect nipple. I gritted my teeth, eased my hand around her breasts, and darted my tongue on her sweet pebble. Automatically, her legs wrapped around my waist. Her head fell back, and chest pushed forward for me to take her other breast. I grabbed her legs from around my waist and dropped underwater, holding my breath for a few seconds and swiping my tongue across her.

  “Oh shit!”

I popped up, stuck my finger in her canal, and watched her pretty face drown from my touch. She scrambled to hold onto my shoulders as I pleased her, kissing her neck across her shoulders.

  “Can I come? Please, Savio.”

“Let’s take this to our bedroom.”

I lifted her out of the chair, helped her redress, and grabbed the towel. We walked through the house and took the elevator upstairs to our bedroom.

  “The shower.”

I smacked her on the ass. She jumped in my arms and passionately kissed me on the lips. I walked us back to the bathroom and locked the door, still holding her in my arms. I released her on her feet, ripped off her bathing suit, and turned on the water. After checking the temperature, I let her step in first and dropped my shorts. My dick sprang up, ready for its home.

  “That was my favorite bikini.”

  “Showed too much skin.”

  “Ouch!”

I bit her on the shoulder.

“Turn around, hands on the wall.”

“What are you going to do?”

  “Fuck you.”

“We had sex last night, and you’re still horny?”

“You’ll learn about my appetite for sex.”

“Are there rules for that too?”

“Rule one is never go to sleep in clothes.” I shoved my tongue down her throat.

  “Mhmmmmm…”

Her moans made me want to keep that beautiful sound constantly coming out of her whenever we were alone. There was a look her in eyes the first time we had sex, one of hunger, wanting to be dominated and pleased from her heads to her toes.

“Fuck!” My hard girth pressed at her entrance, and I had to stop myself from moving any further.

  “Savio, please… fuck me.”

The pleading in her voice stirred my groin. I wrapped my hand tight around her hair and pounded her at a fast pace, giving her what she wanted.

“McKayla… You’ve made the worst mistake, baby.”

  “What?”

  “You walked into my life.”

I picked up the pace as she cried out, trying to hold up on the bathroom wall. I didn’t want to come just yet. I jerked out of her and turned her around. Sitting on the edge of the seat in the bathroom, she slid down on my throbbing member. My head dropped down to her chest. She then rotated her hips and fucked me instead of me fucking her.

She bounced on top of me once, then twice, slowed down, and rolled her hips. Her groans filled my heart with such a sweet ache when she whined and threw her head back. I cupped the back of her neck and captured her growl with a hard kiss. My fingertips angled around her throat as our mouths wrapped together in our own sexual need. Hearing the unsteadiness of my voice and my balls ready to release, I wasn’t ready for this to be over. Running my hands over her breasts, with our hearts pounding, our eyes didn’t break contact, and I plunged even deeper.

“What the fuck are you doing?”

“Don’t tell me you can’t handle me on top,” she challenged, and I growled and groped both her ass cheeks, fucking her from the bottom and meeting her thrusts. Our eyes focused on each other, trying to see who would break first. I moved a hand up her neck, holding her in place and easing in and out. She grazed her hand down my chest, and I held onto her tight as the fight for control engulfed us.

We were lying in bed hours later after the shower. McKayla had washed her hair and dried it off. Her curls were full and covered her face. She lay on my chest, and I’d planned for us to go out to dinner, but she was slowly going to sleep.

  “McKayla.”

  “Huh.”

“We need to get up. We have dinner reservations.”

“I want to stay here and sleep.”

“Not tonight, princess. I have plans for dinner.”

McKayla looked up at me, perplexed.

  “We didn’t use a condom.”

  “What?”

“In the bathroom. We didn’t use a condom.” She removed her arms from around my waist, jumped up out of bed, and ran to her bag.

“I’m not ready for a baby.” McKayla took her birth control out and left to go to the bathroom for a glass of water.

  “You feel better?”

“Why are you not freaking out?”

  “I never came inside you.”

“That doesn’t matter, but that brings up a question of children.”

“I don’t want any.” I grabbed my robe, treaded to the closet, and picked out a suit for tonight.

  “You mean right now?”

  “No, ever.”

“But what about what I want?”

“McKayla. Let’s go to dinner; nothing else matters.”

“I’m not hungry. Have dinner by yourself.”

She tried to walk off, and I grasped her elbow.

“Stop with the spoiled brat attitude and get dressed.”

  “When are we leaving?”

“In ten minutes, the car is outside waiting.”

“I need to do something to my hair.”

“Your hair is fine.” I let her go, and she stalked to the bathroom and slammed the door.

Forty minutes later, we were sitting alone out on the top of a hill overlooking the city, with a waitstaff I personally had cater our meals. McKayla was still pissed from the comment I made about not wanting any kids, but I wasn’t planning on changing my mind or letting her go.

“What were you like as a little boy?”

“It wouldn’t surprise you if I said I was bossy. I took after both my father and mother.”

  “Your father seems sweet though.”

“He’s older now and changed over time, but Elio Calabresi Jr. was a killer back in the day.”

“Did it ever bother you when you killed someone?”

  “No.”

  “What about the families?”

“The type of business I run, McKayla, you can’t have friends.”

The waiter brought out our stuffed shells and calamari first.

  “Thank you,” McKayla said.

  “Tell me about your childhood.”

“I grew up in the typical American family—two-parent household with loving parents.”

  “They seem strict.”

“They were, but they still let me have a little wiggle room.”

“Is that why you’re always running now?”

“You never really gave me a good reason to stay.”

I paused at her comment, nodded, and grabbed the napkin to eat.

“For this to work, we must have honesty.”

“I agree, but I told you I wouldn’t go to the police.”

  “It’s not just the police.”

“Well, besides your other mafia enemies.”

“Colombo is after me because of Nevio’s death.”

“I heard police reports talk about drugs.”

“He had our product, which makes me believe he tried to set us up or sell our products behind my back.”

“But death shouldn’t have been the answer.”

McKayla grabbed her wine and took a gulp.

“In this business, it has to end in death.”

“So why didn’t you kill me?”

I paused at her question in thought.

“Because you did me a favor when you interrupted Gennaro’s plan.”

  “Oh, now we’re getting somewhere.”

“I’m not telling you any more.”

“No, you opened the door. Please walk through it, husband.”

` McKayla batted her eyelashes, and I froze at her flirting with me. The light across her face made her look so innocent and sweet. Maybe I was corrupting her and didn’t even know how far I was taking things.

  “Viviana is Gennaro’s daughter.”

  “I remember that.”

“She and I used to mess around.”

  “She’s beautiful.”

“She’s just as corrupt as her father.”

“Hard to agree when I’m sitting here with you.”

“Different, I know when to let go. Gennaro was forcing my hand and trying to get our families to join forces.”

“Wouldn’t that put you in a better position?”

“No, because I have an idea that he was planning on killing me once I married his daughter. Only way I was to continue being in charge as Don was to marry.”

  “Through an arranged marriage.”
