“I’m okay, Neil. Er… thanks for your assistance.” Jack laughed.
“I hear you’re finding your feet as a PI. Good on you.”
“I’m getting there. I’ve had a few successes under my belt, although I needed my ex-boss to bail me out of this one.”
“It’s great to have friends in high places, eh?” Neil grinned and led his men, and the criminals, back through the house.
Lorne and Sally both hugged their husbands, and then Jack joined in with a group hug.
“Thanks, Jack, for all you’ve done.” Sally kissed him on the cheek.
“Hey, I did nothing. I was following the fucker this morning, and as soon as they got out of the car and headed into the house, I sensed there was going to be trouble, so I got on the blower to you. Tony was in the middle of negotiating with the fuckers when I joined in the fun.”
“Well, with the evidence you’ve collected on him, we’ve got enough to make him regret his bullying tactics. Why don’t we call it a day and head home?”
“No can do,” Simon said, “I have to stay behind and clear up the mess they made.”
Sally looked at Lorne, and they both nodded.
“It’ll be quicker if we all lend a hand.”
Tears welled up in Simon’s eyes. “I can’t ask you to do that. It could take days to put right.”
“We can break the back of it tonight,” Sally replied.
“Hey, I’ll chip in, too, for a few hours,” Jack said.
Simon was overwhelmed and hugged all of them again. “Teamwork makes the dream work, eh? You guys are the best.”
