part #2 of Seal Strike Series
“Sir, nothing like a little overkill. I mean it was only one dude. I could’ve popped him easy if he’d reached the camp.”
The second Blackhawk floated down into the camp. Matt knew that Operation Green Dagger was over. “Boys, let’s go home!”
Exhaustion suddenly washed over Matt as he sat down in the helicopter and felt it rise. All the stress of command, the fear of failing his friend, and worry over failing the mission all evaporated, leaving an empty shell.
Matt had expended all the energy he had left in that last assault. He was proud of all the guys and especially happy to know Senior Chief Auger would live to fight another day.
Matt couldn’t avoid the obvious; he loved this shit. The fear, the challenges, the whole damn thing. He’d been thinking a lot about his future lately and had been confused about who he was and who he wanted to be.
The path was crystal clear to him as he stared out of the helicopter side door at the light blue sky. Tina and her plans for a life together would have to be put on hold. Matt was a warrior, a navy SEAL. It was his destiny, and he was going to live that destiny.
