I rocked my hips faster, as his tongue teased me until all the clear magical fluid was gone. Then his lips found mine. Our mouths clashed together in a tongue filled kiss as we grinded our bodies together. Everything inside of me burnt hot as waves of pleasure spread out over me. I was close – too close. This was going to be messy if we didn’t stop soon.

“That’s why showers were invented, mate,” Daniel whispered. “Because some of the best things in life are messy.”

His voice was deep with need, and I didn’t want to stop -mess or not. His fingers dug into my ass, squeezing hard and dragging me over his long thick hard cock again and again. I bit my lip in between kisses trying not to be too loud. Everyone might’ve guessed what we’d do if we were locked up together long enough, but I wasn’t ready for the teasing that came when most people met their true-mates.

“I’m close too,” Daniel whispered back.

I wished I was inside his head too. I wanted to feel what he felt – I wanted to know everything about him. I opened my mouth ready to bite down on his claiming gland, but everything inside me exploded before I could. Orgasm rattled me to my core, and I teared up. All the pressure inside my body and mind just popped like a rubber band stretched too far. I leaned against Daniel even as his hips bucked up, still rubbing his hard dick against me seeking out his own pleasure.

“You smell so fucking good, mate,” Daniel whispered to me.

I couldn’t talk. I couldn’t think. That was the best part. For a few glorious minutes I couldn’t think of anything except the pleasure pulsating through me.

Daniel’s face screwed up in pleasure. He was close too. His fingers dug into me, and his dick shook against my body through our clothes. He growled when he came, digging his fingers deeper.

In a heap of pleasure, he flopped onto his back taking me with him. I wrapped myself around him, never wanting to let go. Everything screwed up, I could deal with as long as he was here with me, and he never let go of me.

  Chapter Eighteen

  Daniel

My pleasure-soaked mind raced in every direction imaginable. Shepard was still warm to the touch and smelled delicious as he always did. The magic thrummed behind my navel, pulsating right up to my unbitten claiming gland. His thoughts were blank and pleasure drowned.

My mind bounced back to my Omega Studies class at Hemlock Academy. Not all Alphas took it, but Bobby’s carrier, Wrynn Hemlock-Heart, offered a special class each semester for Alphas. We took it, because of course we did. If we hadn’t Bobby would’ve never heard the end of it from his dad. Though, we learned a lot.

Heat was supposed to loosen up an omega’s inhibitions. In some cases, need would drive them to sexual acts they might not engage in otherwise. That’s what I had feared. I didn’t want Shepard to do anything he’d regret later. Only his mind was blissful as he dozed for a few moments resting against me.

“See,” my wolf said. “He didn’t need to be in heat to want us.”

Of course, he didn’t. We were true-mates, but he just found out life altering news a few days ago. If I had a time machine, I’d have gone back and eviscerated the vampire who killed his bio-mom. I’d eviscerate anyone whoever hurt him. I took a deep breath and held it in for a second.

When Alphas met their true-mates some of them grew more aggressive than usual. That was even truer while their omega mates were in heat.

“Who are we eating?” Shepard blinked awake a few seconds later.

  “Huh?” I laughed.

“You smell like you--- Well, like your wolf wants to eat someone.”

“Oh, he’s just crunchy that anyone would ever dare to upset you.”

  “Thank you,” he chuckled.

I had to move before my wolf really got on the track of wanting to hunt people down. He was a good hunter with an excellent nose. I was also decent at sneaking up unheard upon people thanks to his skill.

“Stop bragging in my thoughts,” I scolded him, but he went on to list more of his skills.

Carefully, I sat up, taking Shepard with me. I lifted him up as I stood and headed into the bathroom. I sat him down on his own two feet and started to turn away, but his arms wrapped around my neck and pulled me down for another kiss. Our bodies pressed together, he was already hard again.

Without breaking the kiss and with our tongues still dancing between our mouths I lifted him into the shower and turned on the water with one hand. I stood between him and the shower, ensuring by the time the water reached him it was the appropriate temperature. We kissed in between stripping off our messy clothes under the water. I gathered them all up in one damp ball and tossed them over the shower curtain. They landed with a satisfying thump in the empty laundry hamper.

Then I focused all my energy on kissing Shepard. I could’ve kissed the man for the rest of my life. His lips were plump and soft. His tongue battled mine as if he would have the last taste of the argument.

“Daniel?” Liam’s voice sounded from the living room.

I was imagining it of course. My wolf agreed. So I kept kissing Shepard because there was no way Liam would walk into my house right now without knocking. Maybe he was poking me over the pack link and my brain was just confused with all the kissing going on.

“Daniel?” His voice came again, this time he sounded closer.

The door opened and I peeked out of the shower curtain. Liam Moonscale stood in my bathroom smelling like the world had ended. I glanced at Shepard, frozen in place and breathing hard. His thick erection stood out in front of him, and I swore under my breath.

“Ummm…. Liam, we’re a little busy here, brother,” I said, trying to sound casual.

Nudity wasn’t uncommon with shifters, but Liam was one of the last people in the world I wanted to see me naked and erect.

“I know and I’m sorry,” he said quickly. “You guys weren’t answering over any of the group links.”

“Ummmm…… We’re busy. Can we help you?” I asked, trying to sound as if him barging into my bathroom while I was in the shower was something absolutely one hundred percent normal.

“Irwin took off into the woods and we can’t find him,” Liam cut to the chase.

“What?” Shepard said and peeked his head out of the other side of the shower curtain.

“Starry said he was wearing pheromone blocker spray. They were playing around with the scents. I don’t know exactly what happened and it’s probably not my business to say anyway but Irwin ran off and----” Liam was blushing hard, clearly uncomfortable. “I saw this coming.” He turned his back to us. “Not him running away, but you – Daniel – kissing a vampire in the shower. I can tell you now because it’s happened. I know you don’t like hearing your future but it’s your present now.”

“Liam! Stop rambling! What’s going on with Irwin?” I growled.

  Liam didn’t even flinch.

“He ran off into the woods wearing pheromone blocker spray and none of the guards can find him!” He spat the words out.

“How long has he been gone?” Shepard asked.

“It’s been hours now!” Liam said.

  “Shit!” Shepard swore.

“I’ll go,” I said. “I have an idea. You stay here, please,” I said, pulling the shower curtain closed so I could talk to Shepard face to face. “You’re in heat. Please stay here. Please.”

“Don’t beg,” Shepard shook his head. “I get it. I just---”

“If they can’t find him in the woods, he might’ve gone to the house you guys were going to stay at to begin with. I’m going to get him. The best person would be you, but I think I’m second best in this case. Especially once I tell him what’s going on.”

“What if he’s not there?” Shepard asked, his eyes tearing up.

“Then I’ll find him. I’ll get him back here safely and then I’m gonna---” I glanced down at his erection and remembered Liam was still in the bathroom and the shower curtain wasn’t soundproof. “Take care of you.”

“Liam, will you grab me some clothes please? Shepard too? Please.”

  ***

Fifteen minutes later, I sat in the living room of the mating moon house with Irwin. His eyes were bloodshot. He was exactly where I thought I’d find him. There weren’t many places for him to go in Heartville and Irwin didn’t seem to be the type to get himself lost in the woods. He may have been in unfamiliar territory, but he was a wolf after all.

“I’m sorry,” he said for the fourth time since we sat down.

“Do you want to talk about what happened?” I asked him.

“I keep screwing everything up. I’ve been here less than a week and I keep screwing everything up. I can’t help Shepard. I can’t sit down and write. I’ve had writers block for over a month now. I’m just so worried about Shepard and then today --- I’ve just fucked everything up. Shepard was so excited about moving here and I’m just a fuck up.”

“No,” I shook my head. “No one could really help Shepard when he was like that. He’s up and he’s taken a shower now. Grief is ---” I searched for the words. “A cruel master. It’s a wall between you and the rest of the world. I shouldn’t have yelled at you, but, friend, you can’t tough love someone out of grief.”

“No, I was taking out my frustration on him by that point and that’s not fair. He didn’t ask for any of this,” Irwin said and let out a long breath.

“It’s not fair for you either. It’s hard watching him go through all of this and you’ve been doing it for a lot longer than me. Thank you for that. Thank you for taking care of him and still caring. That’s hard work. Caring about anyone is hard work. It takes an emotional toll.”

“I thought Starry wanted to kiss me,” Irwin said, looking away from me.

“Lots of people think that,” I laughed. “I’m not laughing at you, but almost everyone I know has asked Starry out or something similar. He doesn’t stay mad at people. He’s just waiting on his true-mate.”

“We were meditating. Nicky was supposed to be there, but his baby just didn’t sleep last night or that’s what Starry said. I thought he was trying to get me alone. I’m--- I think I should’ve romped more when the pheromone app still worked.”

“Well, the app still works. It’s just choices are sorta limited here,” I said.

“We were meditating. That’s the whole reason we met up – that we kept meeting up. I was trying to feel more grounded or just okay, you know?”

  I nodded. I did know.

“We were laid out in the grass, and he put his hand on my chest talking about my heart chakra and then I kissed him. He was so close, and I thought---” Irwin blew out another long breath.

“It’s okay. It’s easy to misread things.”

“You weren’t there. You didn’t see the look on his face. The whole town is going to think I’m some sort of creep!”

“No, they’re not. Those who hear about it are going to think you got confused. Starry has a way of touching people and while I’m not as magically inclined as a lot of folks here, his hand was on your heart chakra. Emotions and relationships are confusing at the best of times without someone playing with your heart chakra.”

“I can’t show my face here anymore,” Irwin said.

“Yes, you can,” I flashed him a sympathetic smile. “Believe me, you can. Starry probably hasn’t told most people what’s going on. I think Liam knows but they’re best friends and he’s not the sort of guy to hold it against you. They were worried about you being out in the woods alone and not knowing where you were.”

  “Another fuck up,” he sighed.

“Okay. Irwin, I love you because you’re Shepard’s best friend, but I have to ask a question because I think I’m in over my head. How long have you felt this way?”

“Like I’m a fuck up?” he asked.

  “Yeah,” I nodded.

“Poor guy,” my wolf chimed into my thoughts.

“Sorta always. I’m just self-aware like that.”

“I’m going to give you my brother’s number. He’s a therapist on Hemlock Mountain. He’s a good one too. He’s a good guy. I’m here if you need to vent or anything, but I’m afraid of saying the wrong thing. I don’t think you’re a fuck up. I think we’re all in over our heads with Shepard’s visions and I think you’re extra stressed out with the move and everything.”

“I’ve seen therapists before they never worked out,” Irwin shook his head. “They want me to stop worrying about Shepard. One told me the next time he had a vision just call emergency services and leave. I can’t do that.”

“No, neither of us can. Marcus won’t tell you that. I can promise you that. He’s pack oriented. He’s a fox but living at the Sanctuary made us all pack oriented. He’d never tell anyone to leave their friend during a medical emergency where they had no way to fend for themselves. You don’t have to talk to him. I’m not your boss. I just ---” I took a deep breath. I wasn’t sure of what I just. “He might be able to help. It’d be doing him a favor too, because he doesn’t have a lot of in person clients. He knows everyone in the neighborhood and that would complicate things for him to be their therapist too. You’d be doing me a favor by tossing him a bone too.”

“I’m not sure if you mean that, but okay,” he nodded. “If he’s that new maybe he hasn’t become extra jaded yet.”

“I don’t think anything could jade Marcus,” I laughed.

“I just hope I don’t break your brother.”

“Let’s go home,” I said, reaching off to pat him on the shoulder.

“I don’t want to keep you guys from your claiming vows,” Irwin sighed.

“Well, then don’t disappear and get every adult here searching for you again, okay?” I teased.

  “I mean it.”

“Okay, are you going to make me be a cave-wolf?” I asked him.

  “Huh?” He blinked at me.

“Irwin, Shepard wants you to come home. He’s in heat right now. That’s not something I’d normally tell anyone, but you’re his best friend so I imagine that you guys talk about stuff like that. It’s probably because grief put off our claiming vows. They’re half done, if I’m being honest.”

Irwin’s face turned as bright red as a cherry tomato.

“Oh my Juda!” He brought his hand over his mouth. “I really did ---”

“Stop,” I shook my head. “So, I can sorta feel him worrying about you still. I told him I’d bring you home and while normally I wouldn’t boss you around, I’m taking you home. For him and because I don’t think sitting here alone telling yourself you’re a fuck up is healthy. So, we gotta couple options. We can walk home. It’s just a couple houses away. I can call Dara and he can come sit with you as the doctor. I’m not too much in favor of that one because Shepard wants to see you, but I’d accept it. The last one is, I throw you over my shoulder and carry you home the way I’d do one of my siblings in this situation.”

His mouth hung open in a wide O.

“Don’t look at me like that,” I shook my head. “We’re family now, Irwin.”

“I don’t want to talk to any of them out there,” he said. “I’m not ready to face Starry or anyone.”

“We’ll go out the back door and cut through the yards then,” I said.

  “Alright,” Irwin nodded.

“Good,” I stood up. “You’re a wolf. You’re not meant to stew on shit alone.”

  Chapter Nineteen

  Shepard

Liam was going to go home smelling like a crying vampire.

  “He’s safe,” Liam said.

We sat on the sofa with his arm wrapped around my shoulders. I was hot to the touch and heat surged through my blood, but I ignored it all. I had to. I couldn’t imagine what would make Irwin run away like that.

“He’s at the other house,” Liam cooed to me. “He’s just upset. He’s embarrassed. Starry’s embarrassed too. No one’s mad. Everyone’s just worried.”

“I’ve just been so caught up in my own shit that I’ve left him on his own to figure things out here. I’ve been a bad friend.”

“No, you haven’t,” Liam shook his head. “Meeting your true-mate is tough enough on other relationships. It comes with an obsession and a drive to be alone with them. You’re dealing with so much more than that. You’re dealing with learning about your past and your visions.”

“Irwin’s always been there for me and I just---”

“No,” Liam shook his head. “It’s not like that. He was having fun. He’s been exploring and meeting people – making friends here. This is just one tiny bump in the road.”

The back door swung open, and I let out a long slow breath. While Daniel could hear me, I couldn’t hear him over our mating link. So, I wasn’t sure if he brought back Irwin or not.

“It’s us, Shepard,” Daniel called out from the kitchen. “We’ll be in there in a minute. I’m going to make Irwin hydrate.”

“Thank you, Alpha!” I called back, wiping my eyes and trying to look as if I hadn’t been crying just a second before. I didn’t want to add more problems to Irwin’s list.

A few minutes later, they both walked into the living room. Irwin had been crying and Daniel smelled tired. He hadn’t bargained for my visions and Irwin’s panic attacks too.

“Your mate is a cave-wolf,” Irwin said. “He threatened to throw me over his shoulder and bring me back if I didn’t walk.”

“Good,” I laughed. “I’m in no condition to drag you. Half the town would come out and sniff me.”

“I’m sorry I’m fucking everything up,” Irwin said and flopped down on the sofa next to me.

I hugged him tight. When he got like this there was nothing, I could say to make him feel better. There was really nothing anyone could say. That’s why Daniel bringing him was such a surprise.

“Starry was just surprised and confused,” I whispered to him as we hugged.

“So was I,” Irwin said. “I---”

“It’s okay,” I said. “It really is. We’ll sort it all out after you and Starry have both had some time to stop being embarrassed.”
