“That was perfect,” Hudson states from behind me, dragging me back to the here and now.
I turn around and notice the unshed tears in his eyes. I bet he listened to the entire conversation.
“I got to say goodbye,” I tell him, still not believing I got the opportunity to do so.
“You did,” he states proudly and walks toward me. “I’m glad you found the mirror in the backyard and asked me to clean it up. Guess it was worth all the work,” he jokes and scoops Tara from my lap and holds out his hands to pull me to my feet.
“It definitely was.” I grin and lean in to brush my lips against his.
I still can’t believe how a decade ago we were standing on opposite sides. The girl with a crush on her bully while struggling to keep going with the havoc in my life. One moment caused a change. A connection that grew stronger, and I don’t think I’d be here right now if it wasn’t for Hudson.
We’ve come so far, and to see him standing before me with the little kitten in hand, I know we have our whole lives still ahead of us. Ready to start a family. Released from the curse, and free of our worries. Because whatever difficulties we’ll face, we’ll handle it together.
With my past settled, and closure when it comes to both my parents, it leaves the future wide open for the life I always wished for, but never thought I deserved. It still blows my mind to be this lucky to have Hudson beside me as my friend, my partner, my lover, and future husband.
Such an unexpected turn in my life to end up with my bully. Was it worth the struggle to overcome everything? Yes, yes it was. Everyone needs a second chance, and it was worth forgiving him when he ran after me, soaked to the bone by the rain. I forgive him for everything, because in time he became my everything.
