Jealousy and in the Labyrinth

Jealousy and in the Labyrinth

Alain Robbe-Grillet

Fiction / Nonfiction

From the Inside FlapHere, in one volume, are two remarkable novels by the chief spokesman of the so-called "new novel" which has caused such discussion and aroused such controversy. "Jealousy," said the New York Times Book Review "is a technical masterpiece, impeccably contrived." "It is an exhilirating challenge," said the San Francisco Chronicle. The Times Literary Supplement of London called Robbe-Grillet an "incomparable artist" and the Guardian termed Jealousy "an extraordinary book." In his native France, leading critic Maurice Nadeau wrote in France-Observateur that "In the Labyrinth is better than an excellent novel: it is a great work of literature," and fellow novelist and critic Claude Roy judged the same work Robbe-Grillet's "best book," while here in America the "Parade of Books" column called In the Labyrinth "a highly emotional experience for the reader" and went on to predict: "Robbe-Grillet will take his place in world literature as a successor of Balzac and Proust." This volume, which offers incisive essays on Robbe-Grillet by Professor Bruce Morrissette of the University of Chicago and by French critics Roland Barthes and Anne Minor, also contains a helpful bibliography of writings by and about the author. Alain Robbe-Grillet was born in 1922 in Brest, France. The Erasers, his first novel, was published in 1953, and as his next novels appeared--The Voyeur in 1955, Jealousy in 1957, In the Labyrinth in 1959, and La Maison de Rendez-vous in 1965--his importance as the chief spokesman for the noveau roman became apparent. He gives his own theories of the novel in a collection of essays, For a New Novel. Robbe-Grillet wrote the film script for Last Year at Marienbad.

Silk Confessions

Silk Confessions

Joanne Rock

Romance / Young Adult / Nonfiction

Review"Fast-paced and intriguing..." -- Paula Klug for A Romance Review"Joanne Rock delivers a series full of sassy and independent heroines and hunky alpha heroes" -- Missy Andrews for Fallen Angel Reviews"Silk Confessions is wonderful. Tempest and Wesley are strong, attractive characters with serious heat between them, and the mystery works." -- Romantic Times, 4 1/2 stars, Top Pick"Sizzling chemistry with a splash of seductively intense suspense – fabulous Joanne Rock always delivers a page-turning read!" -- RITA Award winner Catherine Mann"When Joanne Rock brings you into her highly charged world, there’s no way to escape without feeling the heat." -- Cat Cody for Romance JunkiesFrom the AuthorDear Reader, As I thought about what kind of story I wanted to write for my ninth Harlequin Blaze release, I kept thinking about my very first two Blaze novels. Both stories-Silk, Lace & Videotape (Blaze # 26) and In Hot Pursuit (Blaze # 48)-took place in New York City, with cop heroes working in the same NYPD precinct in Manhattan. I love glittering, glitzy New York for its one-of-a-kind personality. I also truly admire the nobility of men and women who are called to serve and protect the people around them. So as I thought about a way to bring a sexy, suspenseful Blaze story to the page, I naturally decided to revisit a place teeming with steamy potential for Silk Confessions, the first in my ongoing WEST SIDE CONFIDENTIAL miniseries. Wesley Shaw is on the trail of a killer, but first he'll have to get past a sizzling suspect and all the mayhem she leaves in her wake. I hope you enjoy the new series as much as I loved writing it! And keep your eye on Wes's partner Vanessa Torres. Her story will be the second title in "West Side Confidential," coming in May 2005.Happy reading, Joanne Rock

Bad Romance

Bad Romance

L Kirk

Nonfiction / Biography / Animals

Clara I lost Dax Trenton years ago. No one could tell me where he’d gone, or who took him. When my father moved us out to Southern California for a job I figured that would be the end of it. That was until the day before I started college. Dax Trenton was not only standing in my kitchen — but he was living right smack next door. He taunted me with his revolving door of women. He insisted on having me up close and far away. I tried to stay away. But does a moth really stay away from the flame? Even when he does the unthinkable, when Dax pursues — I submit. Dax She doesn’t know I recognize her. I know exactly who that very well-formed woman is that teases and torments me from her next door window. Clara Parker was my breath and everything I’d ever wanted—until she betrayed me. Now I’m out for revenge, and I will have it. All over her very creamy, soft, and supple flesh. What neither of us is expecting is to fall face first in love with one another. Or maybe we were always in love, who the hell knows? I just know that when it’s all laid out, Clara, broken or whole, will be mine. What I didn’t count on was an enemy from both our pasts showing up to break us.

Oswald's Tale

Oswald's Tale

Norman Mailer

Nonfiction / Fiction / Poetry

"MARVELOUS . . . BREATHTAKING."--The New York Times Book Review"MAILER SHINES . . . Explaining Kennedy's assassination through the flaws in Oswald's character has been attempted before, notably by Gerald Posner in Case Closed and Don Delillo in Libra. But neither handled Oswald with the kind of dexterity and literary imagination that Mailer here supplies in great force. . . . Oswald's Tale weaves a story not only about Oswald or Kennedy's death but about the culture surrounding the assassination, one that remains replete with miscomprehensions, unraveled threads and lack of resolution: All of which makes Oswald's Tale more true-to-life than any fact-driven treatise could hope to be. . . . Vintage Mailer."--The Philadelphia Inquirer"FASCINATING . . . A MASTER STORYTELLER . . . Mailer gives us our clearest, deepest view of Oswald yet. . . . Inside three pages you are utterly absorbed."--Detroit Free Press"MAILER AT HIS BEST . . . LIVELY AND CONVINCING . . . EXTREMELY LUCID . . . Mailer is fierce, courageous, and reckless and nearly everything he writes has sections of headlong brilliance. . . . [He] has found a way to make the dry bones of KGB tapes and his own interviews stand up and perform. . . . From the American master conjurer of dark and swirling purpose, a moving reflection."--Robert StoneThe New York Review of Books"THIS IS A NARRATIVE OF TREMENDOUS ENERGY AND PANACHE; THE AUTHOR AT THE TOP OF HIS FORM."--Christopher HitchensFinancial Times"Mailer has written some pretty crazy books in his time, but this isn't one of them. Like its predecessor, Harlot's Ghost, it is the performance of an author relishing the force and reach of his own acuity."--Martin AmisThe London Sunday TimesFrom the Trade Paperback edition.
