  Author’s Note

  8th December 2019

  Hi Readers,

I can’t believe it is December already! The year has flown by. To anyone reading this note during the festive season, Happy Holidays! I hope you have a wonderful time with your loved ones.

In four days we’ve got a pretty momentous election coming up in the UK – eek! I’m kind of terrified about this one, but we probably shouldn’t talk politics in the back of my books. By the time this book is out, we’ll know the result one way or another. Fingers, toes and everything else crossed. You can’t imagine how often I’ve thought, “I wish I had a wand!” these past few weeks. Which reminded me a lot of this quote from Harry potter:

“ The Prime Minister gazed hopelessly at the pair of them for a moment, then the words he had fought to suppress all evening burst from him at last.

“But for heaven’s sake — you’re wizards! You can do magic! Surely you can sort out — well — anything!”

Scrimgeour turned slowly on the spot and exchanged an incredulous look with Fudge, who really did manage a smile this time as he said kindly, “The trouble is, the other side can do magic too, Prime Minister.”

― J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

In these chilly winter days I have been cosying up to the television in my breaks. I’ve been watching His Dark Materials on the BBC and am hooked. Two days until we find out what happens to Lyra in the weird daemon guillotine thing. (I have read the books, but I can’t wait to see how the TV show handles it.) Other stuff I’ve been watching is old reruns of Agatha Christie’s Marple and Poirot, both TV shows which I love. And I simply cannot wait for the New Year when Doctor Who begins again. I’m in the camp who loves Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor. I been too busy working to get to the cinema, but I really also want to watch the Knives Out movie. Are you getting a hint that I love watching crime dramas? You are not wrong!

In terms of writing, I’m working on book two in the Witches of Brimstone Bay series right now, and have also been thinking a lot about kicking off another fun witch cosy mystery series starring none other than the glamourous Gwendolyn Prince. She’s the mother of Percy from my Percy Prince series, so go and check that out if you haven’t already.

In chicken news, our three tiny Serama hens are doing well despite the colder weather. They stopped laying for a while, but one of them has randomly started laying again. There was a scary day not too long ago when I went out to lock up their coop just after sunset, and found to my horror that all three chickens were missing. Had a fox somehow gotten past our fences and taken them? Had they flown into the small wilderness of trees beyond our garden? The mystery of the missing chickens was solved when one of them quietly crooned in response to my calling for them. It turned out they were huddling together on the lawn in my neighbours garden. I was a bit astonished that they had not thought to fly back! They had gotten disorientated – the poor things.

That’s all from me for now. See you in the Author’s Note of a future book.

  Best wishes,

  Rukia
