Chapter One
BIANCA
My blaring alarm wakes me from my deep slumber. Throwing the sheets over my head, I contemplate if I really have to go into work today. The answer is a definite yes. I have too many responsibilities to risk losing my job.
I hate adulting. It’s so overrated.
Dragging myself from the bed, I stretch and throw my robe on.
Making my way down the hall, I head for my girls’ room. They hate mornings just as much as I do. Walking through the door, I can’t help the smile that broadens across my face. All three are stretched across their bed, mouths open, and light snores filling the room.
“Come on, girls, it’s time to wake up,” I say, turning on the light.
All three yank their blankets above their heads and pretend I don’t exist. I laugh and start peeling the covers back. Taking a seat on Naomi’s bed, I smooth down her hair.
“Mama, I don’t wanna get out bed,” Naomi mutters while snuggling into my lap.
“I know mornings are hard, baby girl.” It takes a lot of sweet talk to finally get them up. Once they get out of bed, I’m met with three pairs of gold eyes.
Just like their father.
I can’t even call him that, since he’s never met the girls. It breaks my heart knowing my girls will never have a relationship with their dad.
I grew up without my father. I didn’t want that when I had children, but life has a way of throwing a curve ball at you. Luckily, the girls are only three and haven’t become curious about their father. One day, the questions will start, and I have no clue what I’m going to tell them.
“Let’s get dressed, so I can take you next door to Miss Josie.” It takes about forty-five minutes to get the girls dressed. I had to dispute five different arguments about unicorn slippers, tiaras, and so on. Raising three little girls, I’m constantly being a referee.
All three have completely different personalities. Naomi is my loud, boisterous one. Mari is the quiet one. Give her some crayons and a coloring book, and she disappears into the nearest corner. Abigail is my goofball. We call her Abi for short.
After they’re dressed, I take them next door to my neighbor. She’s a godsend. Miss Josie watches the girls free of charge. She and my mom are old friends, and she looks out for me. I knock on the door, and Miss Josie answers with a huge smile.
“Morning, little ladies. I made your favorite oatmeal this morning.”
The girls cheer, shout bye, and take off for the kitchen. After a quick goodbye, Miss Josie races after the girls. I go back home and get dressed for work. Before I leave, I stop by my mom’s room to see how she’s doing. After knocking on the door, I enter and see her sitting up in bed.
“How are you feeling this morning, Mama?”
“Not too bad today,” she says, trying to stifle her coughs.
This has to be the worst feeling. I never thought I would be watching my mother wither away at forty-eight years old, but that’s exactly what’s happening. She needs open-heart surgery. Her insurance doesn’t cover it, and she refuses to let me pay it off.
The doctor gave her six months to live without the procedure. That was a month ago. I know she wants me to focus on the girls, but I can’t lose her. My mom has been my everything. She worked three jobs to get me through school. I will forever be grateful to her.
“I’m heading out to work. Call me or Miss Josie if you need anything.”
“I know, baby. Go, before you’re late.”
Nodding, I head out the door, lock it, then rush to my crappy car. This car is on its last leg, but I don’t have a choice to upgrade vehicles.
Ever since Robert demoted me to a shitty prep cook, I can barely afford my rent and taking care of the girls. Every time I see the sleazeball I want to kick him in the man jewels. He demoted me because I declined his offer to take me on a date.
He didn’t come right out and say it, but a week after I declined his offer, I came into the kitchen to see my schedule had gone from line cook to prep cook, docking my pay three dollars. I was barely making my bills as a line cook. The past year has been hard, trying to find a better-paying job and then Mom got sick, and the responsibilities grew.
Pulling into work, I look at the clock. I have three minutes to clock in. Rushing into the building, I clock in with a minute to spare. After grabbing my apron, I wash my hands and head to the prep line.
Kelly and Bryan give me weak smiles, which tells me Robert is already on a warpath this morning. Great. Just what I need. I haven’t even gotten a chance to have my morning coffee yet.
“Bianca! Why were you late?!” he barks, walking into the kitchen.
“I had a minute to spare, Robert,” I answer through gritted teeth. I really wish I could tell him to shove it, but I have three little angels depending on me.
“If you aren’t ten minutes early, you’re late. Don’t let it happen again or I’ll have to put you on dishes.”
He walks out of the kitchen, and everyone looks at me with sympathy in their eyes. I ignore everyone and start chopping vegetables. I work for one of the most high-end restaurants here in Kissimmee.
Juliana’s.
It’s one of the hardest gigs to get in this town, but I graduated at the top of my culinary class, so they were very impressed with my resume.
Two hours after my shift started, Alan, the lead daytime cook, comes over to me. “Bianca, I got wind of a new restaurant opening up in town. It's only about twenty minutes from here. You are far too talented to be cutting vegetables, and Robert’s pigheaded ass isn’t going to put you back next to me, so I think you should apply for this job. You have three little girls to take care of and as much as I would hate losing you, this place is never going to allow you to have the opportunities you deserve.”
Alan is a lot older than I am. In a way, I look at him like some kind of long-lost uncle, even though we look completely different. I have chocolate skin with brown eyes and Alan has pale white skin with hazel eyes. When I first came here, he took me under his wing and sharpened my skills in the kitchen.
Alan hands me a piece of paper. The name on the paper reads Sara Evans and there’s a phone number beneath the name. “Call her and schedule an interview. I eat breakfast at her diner all the time and the woman has talent in the kitchen as well.”
I know she must be a great cook if Alan is giving her praise.
“I’ll give her a call at lunch.”
Alan sighs and wraps his arm around me. “I’m gonna miss you around here, kid.”
“I haven’t even gotten the job, Alan.” I giggle.
“Once they taste your food, you will.”
He walks away and I hate how sad he looks. I wish I could stay here, but Alan is right. As long as Robert is running this place, I’ll never have any opportunities. When lunch comes around, I go to my car, calling the girls and Mom first. After I’ve spoken to everyone, I dial the number on the paper.
“Hello?” a woman answers.
“Hi, I’m looking to speak with Sara Evans.”
“This is she. Who’s speaking?”
“My name is Bianca Harris. Alan Colby gave me your number. He told me you were opening a new restaurant, and you would be starting to interview soon.”
“Oh, yes, Alan. He’s been coming into my diner for a while. He told me he had the perfect cook for me, so I’m going to assume that’s you. When are you available for an interview?”
“I can do an interview on Friday at any time.”
“Perfect. How does noon sound?”
“It sounds perfect. Thank you so much for this opportunity.”
“No problem. Make sure you bring your resume and I’ll see you Friday.”
She ends the call and I sit in my car with the biggest smile. I hope I get this. I want to get the hell away from Robert. Even though I told him no to the date, he still rubs up against me in the kitchen, pretending not to have enough space to get by.
When I get back to the kitchen, nothing can ruin this great mood I’m in. The day passes quickly with all the orders coming in. I keep up small talk with Kelly and Bryan to pass the time. By the time my shift is over, my feet ache and all I want is a nice soak in my tub. Clocking out for the day, I make my way home and collect the girls. Once we’re home, I set them up in the living room while I start dinner. Tonight, I’m cooking their favorite—smothered meatballs, rice, green beans, and mac and cheese.
Once the food is ready, the girls hightail it to the table. No words are spoken while they shovel the food into their mouths. I set Mom’s food up on a tray and take it to her room. She’s watching Wheel of Fortune and yelling at the television. “Mom, here’s your dinner.”
“Thanks, baby. I don’t know what I would do without you.”
I instantly think about what it’s going to be like without her. If she doesn’t let me pay for this surgery, in five months, I’m going to know exactly what it’s like. I quickly leave the room, not wanting to upset her.
After the girls are fed, bathed, and put to bed, I clean up the kitchen, shower, and get into bed. I pray I get this job. Maybe then Mom will let me pay for the surgery.
Chapter Two
BLADE
My mouth feels like a bowl of cotton balls. I drank way too fuckin’ much last night. Yesterday was Capone’s birthday, and we partied hard. I haven’t gotten that drunk in a long time.
Me and my triplet, Torch, fucked Kitty bent over the pool table. He was taking her mouth while I fucked her from behind. I was so drunk, I forgot my sisters were across the room. They moved with the speed of lightning to get out of the common room, telling everyone goodnight.
I’m pretty sure when I see them, I’m gonna get an earful for that stunt. Getting out of bed, I drag my miserable ass into the shower. Once I’m dressed, I head to the dining hall. I need coffee in the worst way. As soon as I’m in the dining hall, my nephew, Liam, crashes into my legs.
“Up!” he shrieks.
Okay, it was more of a giggle, but fuck, my head is pounding. I quickly scoop him up and he snuggles into my neck. I grab my coffee and take a seat at the table with my family. Liam twists around once I’m seated and Cara slides a plate in front of me, sending me a glare.
I take the plate and start cutting up Liam’s waffles and fruit. Looking over at my sister, Sara, I see she’s sending Torch the same glare. I almost bark out a laugh when I notice Bear has Elena strapped to his chest in some kind of baby contraption.
Two years ago, Cindy and Colton were the only kids here. Big Red had his hands full being a single parent. Now, the clubhouse is filled with kids. Literally. Cara had triplets about a year and a half ago. She recently gave birth two months ago to another son, Chase. He ended up having Viper’s gray eyes instead of my family’s gold ones.
Sara gave birth a few weeks before her. She had Elena in Bear’s bed, here in the clubhouse. Elena didn’t give her any time to make it to the hospital. I’ll never forget her screams and threats to Bear. I’m pretty sure she threatened to remove his dick like six times.
After I cut Liam’s food up, he stuffs his face. Looking up at my sister, I see she’s still staring at me.
“Cam, what did you two do to your sisters?” my mom asks, giggling. Torch swallows his coffee and starts choking. Yeah, I’m not explaining to my mother that we tag teamed a club bunny in front of them, forgetting they were in the room.
Viper and Bear roar with laughter. I want to kick their asses. This shit isn’t funny. Most of the time, Viper, Bear, and my sisters don’t make it to the parties. They have the whole family life going on now.
“Was it really that bad?” Mom continues to press.
“Mom! Please! I’m trying to get the images out of my head. Please, just drop it,” Cara mutters, while stabbing her food with more force than necessary.
Mom looks around the table with a confused look, but lets it go. I sigh in relief because that is definitely a conversation I refuse to have with her.
When breakfast is over, the nannies come and take the kids to get cleaned up. The club has changed so much since my sisters showed up over two years ago. After Cara got pregnant, seven months after having the triplets, and Sara was pregnant too, the girls hired two nannies. We have a total of nine kids on the compound and I’m pretty sure if Viper and Bear have it their way, that number will soon grow.
One of the nannies is a tiny little thing. Debbie. Cara made it clear that if anyone tried to fuck Debbie, she would make sure you never got to use your dick ever again. The other nanny is a guy named Will. He’s gay, and he’s always trying to get the guys to swing for the other team. Everyone always laughs off his passes. He only does it to make the guys squirm.
Mom leaves and takes the older kids to school, while my sisters and the nannies take the little ones back home. All the guys file out for work, except for me, Torch, and Rambo. Running a strip club doesn’t call for early hours. We usually go in about noon to start getting ready for the night. We alternate nights on who has to stay till close.
When Kitty comes into the common room, she quickly turns around and leaves. I don’t miss the black eye she’s sporting. I call Bubbles over to the couch.
“You need me?” she breathes. Catching her lustful stare, I shake my head.
“Nah, not right now. What the hell happened to Kitty’s face? That black eye wasn’t there last night.”
Bubbles looks around to make sure no one is listening before leaning in. “Look, you know Mouse and I get a bad rep with the other bunnies because we’re cool with your sisters. I don’t know for sure, but word is Ivy did that to her.”
I sit back, stunned. “Why the fuck would Ivy do that to her?”
“Because she fucked you last night at the party.” Bubbles gets up and finishes stocking the bar.
I sit back at a loss for words. Cara told me a while ago to stop fucking with Ivy because she had feelings for me, but I didn’t see it. I mean, sure, we’ve been fucking for about five years, but she never got clingy with me or asked for more. I assumed we were on the same page. Obviously, we’re not.
“Cara told you to leave her ass alone,” Torch says, taking the seat next to me.
“If that shit is true, I won’t be sticking my dick anywhere near her. She has no say in who I fuck.” Torch nods his head in agreement, and we sit around nursing our hangovers until it’s time to head to the strip club.
When we pull up, Rambo is already here, opening the door for the girls. I head straight to my office, not wanting to talk to anyone. I complete the paperwork for the day and make my rounds through the club. We open the doors for customers at two p.m. and close at four in the morning.
