I wrote the first book in the Hot Magic series, Indigo Spell, in 2003. That was when I introduced the parents of the hero, Jaxon. Jensen and Charlemaine had a loving relationship that had continued for centuries, but, to me, it wasn't enough that they only be a small part of the series. I wanted them to have their own story. That's what The First Spell is all about. Their story.
It is a standalone title. You don't need to know anything about the entire series as I wanted every reader to be able to enjoy this magical world without feeling the need to read the other books.
