We reach Blaise’s locker. My hand drops from his and he wraps an arm around me, tugging me close. In front of watchful eyes, Blaise presses his mouth to mine, kissing me with so much passion that my knees go weak.

“They’re all watching,” I whisper into his lips.

  “Let 'em watch.”

So I do. I fall into the kiss, knowing that together, we’re unstoppable. Blaise has his title back as the king of the school, and I’m the queen at his side.

  EPILOGUE

  PENELOPE

“Damn. This is nice,” Blaise says, scoping out my dorm room. “In fact, I think it’s better than mine.”

I place a canvas painting of an angel and a devil holding hands on a nail on my wall then step off the bed. “It's a pretty small room, but it works.” My back is still facing Blaise as I admire the wall hanging.

Closing the space between us, Blaise wraps his arms around my waist from behind. His chin rests on my shoulder and he takes in an audible breath. “I missed you last night,” he hums into my hair.

I pivot around, arms wrapping around his neck. “It was one night.” I lick my lips when I see him watching mine. “We agreed that the dorms and separate rooms would be a good thing.”

“I got so used to having you in my bed every night. Not to mention all these horny college boys that walk the halls in search of a lay.”

With unwavering eyes, I grin. “It’s a dorm of girls and I have a very, very,” I emphasize, “badass roommate.”

I’m not lying. Leah has the brawn of a man and doesn’t hold back when it comes to voicing her opinion.

“I just worry. You’re easily the hottest girl on campus, and I know how guys are.”

His declaration has me blushing. I’m far from the hottest girl on campus, but I’ll take the compliment, knowing that he truly believes I am.

“I’ll be fine. I promise.” I kiss his parted lips. He wastes no time, sliding his tongue in my mouth.

I know Blaise worries. It’s what he does. He’s so scared that there will be a replay of the events that took place in high school. I’ve assured him many times, this is a different crowd and not everyone is as cruel as Lilith, as deplorable as Chase, or as deceptive as Emery. Not to mention, as erratic as him.

Everything slips away. Every worry he’s bestowed on me. All the strangers surrounding us outside that door. None of it matters as I fall into this kiss. Our hearts beat in sync, his thumping against my chest and mine against his. Sometimes I wonder how I got so lucky, then I remember that luck had nothing to do with it. I fought hard for these feelings—for this love. I’m so consumed by Blaise that it’s both terrifying and exciting. What makes it even better, I trust him now and I know he feels exactly the same way.

“Stay with me tonight,” Blaise breathes in my mouth.

I laugh into our kiss, gulping the air he just exhaled. “It’s only our second night here. I prefer not to break the rules so soon.”

“That’s the thing about rules.” His hand skates up my shirt, leaving a trail of goosebumps in the path of his fingers. “They’re made to be broken.”

The door to my room flies open and Blaise and I both backstep away from each other. I pull my shirt back down in place and wipe the back of my hand across my mouth.

Leah throws her hands up in surrender. “Whoa. Sorry, roomie. Didn’t mean to interrupt.”

I laugh at her liveliness. “No worries. Blaise and I were just leaving. I’m going to Blaise’s for a couple hours, but I will be back later.”

“Maybe.” Blaise steers me to the door. “She might be back later.”

“Might wanna knock before you come in. Haven’t had my own space since I was in my mama’s womb. Haven’t been laid in three years. You just never know what might be going on in my bed, if you know what I mean.”

“Um, okay.” I grimace. “I’ll try to remember that.”

Blaise gives me a concerned look, likely worried about the sanity of my new roommate.

“Come on,” I say, pushing him out the door and closing it behind us. Before he can speak, I hold up a hand. “Don’t. She’s a sweet girl.”

He zips his fingers across his lips. “Wasn’t gonna say a thing.”

We both laugh as we walk down the hall. It feels so nice not to stand out. We’re just an average couple in a big school, full of people who don’t know us and don’t care what we do. It’s a nice change of pace from Skull Creek.

Our last couple months there weren’t all that bad, but every time we turned a corner, someone would stare and whisper. Aren’t they brother and sister? That’s so disgusting. Their parents are married? I hear she’s a whore and she’s slept with his dad, too.

Eventually, I learned to ignore it, until I didn’t care at all.

It’s a quick drive to the guys' dorms on the opposite side of campus. One of the perks about Arvine is the freshmen can have cars, whereas some schools don’t allow that. Naturally, Wade and Blaise are in a dorm together, and Paxton, who has become a pretty good friend to all of us, is three doors down from them with Ryder.

“How are the guys settling in?” I ask Blaise as he shifts into drive and pulls out of the parking lot.

“I’d say pretty good, considering Wade and Paxton stayed up until three in the morning playing video games and laughing their asses off at absolutely nothing.”

I bite back a smile, which Blaise catches when he glances at me. “What’s that look for?”

  “What look?”

“That giddy-ass grin on your face.”

  “Nothing. I’m not grinning.”

He reaches over and tickles my upper thigh. “What are you hiding?”

It’s not my place to say anything, and there’s a good chance I’m totally off base, but I don’t tell him I think there’s something going on between Wade and Paxton. Actually, I know there is. Paxton told me he had a crush on Wade. Wade’s never came out and said that he likes guys, but I’ve had a feeling ever since he drove me home from Poppy’s last fall. He talked about how he’d love to go somewhere where he can just be himself and doesn’t have to pretend. After that, I picked up on things, such as the way he looks at Paxton.

“Don’t make me pull this car over and fuck it out of you.”

“In that case, my lips are sealed.”

Blaise slams on the brakes, throwing my body forward. Thankfully, I put on my seatbelt.

  “Are you challenging me?”

I laugh at him as he undoes his seatbelt and leans over the center console. “We’re in the middle of the road. Get back over there and drive.” I shove him, but he only comes closer, stealing a kiss before he retreats and drops back in his seat.

“I’ll get it out of you one way or another.”

His hand rests on my thigh the rest of the short drive. Once we get to the dorms, he parks and we make our way up to his room. People are still moving in, so there are guys carrying furniture, bags, dressers, and even huge-ass televisions.

Blaise pushes his door open and to our surprise, it’s empty. His eyebrows waggle as he grins. “Looks like we’ve got the place to ourselves for a bit.”

  “Lucky us.”

Blaise kicks the door shut and tackles me from behind, lifting me up and carrying me over to the bed. In one swift motion, I’m on my back with his chest pressed to mine. Our eyes burn into each other and I swear I could live in this moment.

“I love you,” Blaise says, peering over me.

My heart skips a thousand beats. “I love you, too.”

I never planned on this. Never thought the man of my dreams was living two stories beneath the bedroom he taunted me in. I fell for the most unexpected person and at the most unexpected time. That’s the beauty of this thing between us, it never stops surprising us.

I met the devil when I was fourteen years old. By the time I was eighteen, I was madly in love with him.

  The End.
