As book 2 opened, a nuclear bomb had just gone off in New York Harbor. Mayor Fine and his team were in the City Hall bunker, the building above them in ruins, lethal radiation making it inaccessible from the outside. Taylor, Eve, Laleh, and the Samson Corporation folks were in the new bunker on 89th Street, north of the hot zone. Albena and her teammates got stuck in the subway for a few hours, but were just getting to the 89th Street bunker, after doing battle with UN Peacekeepers at a checkpoint a block south. Manhattan south of 16th Street was totally destroyed, as was most of Brooklyn and parts of Staten Island and New Jersey. UN Peacekeepers attempted to take over Manhattan, overrunning three NYPD precincts. Warnings from Chief Harvey and help from citizens stopped the Peacekeepers from taking over more. New York Governor Romano tried to pressure Mayor Fine, asking him to order the NYPD to cooperate and round up citizen vigilantes involved. Mayor Fine told him to pound sand. Shortly after that Governor Romano discussed the problem with Mateo and Cliff Bates. They agreed on the need to take Mayor Fine out of action.

Valley Forge did not suffer a nuclear attack, but they lost power. John Clancy was writing his latest book when there was an emergency broadcast message on the TV, about martial law and gun confiscations in Pennsylvania cities of 40,000 or more.

Albena was working on access to the Facial Recognition system that was part of NYC’s Municipal Video System. She noticed an attack brewing at Penn Station. She called in Jace, who contacted Jared, and they began planning an operation to help the overwhelmed police holding the station. Jace and Jared told them about the mole vehicles. While the conversation was going, Albena saw a rapid increase in UN Peacekeepers at Roosevelt Island, by the bridge into Manhattan.

Jace led a commando team to Penn Station, using the moles. Taylor, Eve, Laleh, and Vasil joined the commandos, including Slash, Tad, and Zev. They made it to Penn Station, killing some UN Peacekeepers in the tunnels as they went. Eve used the railguns on the moles to take out UN Peacekeepers in the subway tunnel while the commandos slipped into Penn Station. The operation was a success, the resistance commandos killing the UN Peacekeepers and holding the station.

Boston didn’t get attacked, nor did they lose electricity. Jaak notified the group that they’d be moving to a special bunker the funder had provided. Sunshine’s group joined them. The Massachusetts Governor issued a statement about Martial Law and gun confiscations just like the Governor of Pennsylvania.

Mayor Fine and Chief Harvey called Jared, asking for his help to evacuate the City Hall bunker. They discussed the subway tunnel exit. Jared told them to check it out with radiation tags on, and get back to him. He had ideas for a rescue.

Cliff Bates arrived in Albany, to plan the takeover of Manhattan with Governor Romano. They talked with Mateo, who told them of his problems with Ivan the Butcher in California.

Mayor Fine and Chief Harvey suited up and went to the subway tunnel at the City Hall bunker. There was no radiation, but they were attacked by UN commandos, fighting them off with fire from Chief Harvey’s M60. They reported to Jared, who told them about the moles, saying he’d have a planning session with his people.

Jared talked to Jace and his team about the rescue operation for Mayor Fine and his staff, also asking Cary to get an armed drone in the air to check out the surface over the City Hall bunker. The power in the subway rails was back on as far as Penn Station, which would allow them to use the moles to do the operation. While they were talking, the drone got into place, its video showing steam shovels digging, and UN vans sitting nearby. Jared gave the okay to destroy the equipment and workers, which Cary did. As the meeting was ending, Albena rushed in, telling them she’d broken into the Facial Recognition system and was using it to track UN Peacekeepers. She was seeing a rapid increase in the number of UN hits, going from a handful an hour to more than three thousand per hour.

John and Linda’s power in Valley Forge came back on. They turned on the TV, watching a siege at a school in Penn Wynne and a gun battle in downtown Philadelphia. The Penn Wynne situation was interesting, because the police and National Guard refused to fire on the armed citizens at the school. UN Peacekeepers showed up in large numbers to take over the siege, arresting the police and national guardsmen who refused to attack. They killed most of the armed citizens, the rest giving up, coming out of the school. The UN Peacekeepers lined them up, brought the police and National Guardsmen they had arrested over, and shot them all, the whole thing shown on news video.

Jared gave Jace’s commando team the okay to kick off the City Hall rescue operation, and the team loaded into the moles and took off. Since there was now power to the rails, Eve was able to use the laser weapons on the moles, which had a multi-targeting mode. They killed enemy fighters in the tunnel on the way to the City Hall bunker. The rescue mission was a success. When the team got back to the base, Albena informed them there were 140,000 UN Peacekeepers in Manhattan and rising fast.

Governor Romano watched video of the Penn Wynne massacre. He summoned Cliff into his office, and called Mateo to complain. The conversation got heated, Mateo telling Cliff he knew what to do. Cliff pulled a silenced pistol and killed Governor Romano, then tried to grab his secretary and take her to the bunker below the building, because a clean-up team was on the way to kill everybody in Romano’s Administration. Cliff didn’t make it to the bunker in time and got killed by the cleaners.

TV coverage of the Penn Wynne massacre was widespread, and armed citizens converged on the area, killing the UN Peacekeepers in a massive battle. During the event, teams of UN commandos raided the newsrooms of local TV stations, killing the on-air personalities and shutting down their transmissions, the public witnessing the whole thing.

Tracy McCain, Lieutenant Governor of New York, called Mayor Fine and told him about the murder of Governor Romano and his administration. She’d just fled her secure location, heading for the Canadian Border. Right after the call, Penko and Albena told them about it, having seen a storm about it on social media. The team decided to help the social media blitz along, seeing citizens rising up and attacking UN Peacekeepers all over the mid-Atlantic. Their rallying cry was Remember Penn Wynne!

The Manhattan funders got together and placed a call to Mateo, still hiding in Geneva after the attacks. The people on the call were Charles, Maggie, Jean, and Lance. They were all angry at Mateo for the Penn Wynne event. Mateo told them it wasn’t their choice. Charles reminded Mateo that they could pull funding for the operation at any time. Lance chimed in, telling Mateo that his heavy equipment at City Hall was blown up by a military drone. Charles added that Tracy McCain had disappeared from her secure location, and that people were rising up everywhere. An argument ensued.

Albena noticed about 50,000 Peacekeepers heading towards Penn Station. Citizens were seeing the activity and converging, helped by a social media campaign. The Manhattan team noticed there were many thousands of Peacekeepers arriving at the bus terminal near Penn Station. Albena also saw thousands of UN Peacekeepers queuing up to cross the bridge from Roosevelt Island to Manhattan. She mentioned it to Cary, who asked Jared’s permission to attack them with a military drone.

Jaak’s Boston team made it to the new base, a bunker under Hanscom Airport. It was much more elaborate than they expected, and many cells were there being trained. The team was told they’d be trained and outfitted, and then they’d be sent back to Boston for operations.

Tracy McCain was almost to the Canadian border. She stopped for gas

and attempted to call associates. The only one she could raise was Liz, a consultant she knew. Liz told her that State Senators Dannon and Walter were still alive, both vacationing in Canada. Tracy called Dannon. They decided to meet in Utica, and then go back to Albany together.

After the talk with Tracy, Senator Dannon dumped the body of Senator Walter, who he’d killed, and headed for Utica with plans to end Tracy as well, leaving him the only remaining elected official in the New York state government.

Citizens began a battle with the UN around Penn Station. Cary got permission to use drones to attack the bus depot and Roosevelt Island, and carried out the attacks, killing many Peacekeepers in each location. His team then notified citizens via social media that they were clear to clean up the remaining enemy fighters in the area, and the citizens flooded in, easily defeating the remaining Peacekeepers.

As John and Linda Clancy watched on TV, Governor Hinkley of Pennsylvania gave some remarks. He said he’d resign over the Penn Wynne massacre as soon as he could get a replacement government in place, which made John laugh, since the Lieutenant Governor takes over under the State Constitution. Then he said they would leave martial law in place and proceed with the social scoring program, while moving UN Peacekeepers back to their barracks, keeping them there in case they were needed.

Mateo received a call from Saladin, who was trying to deal with Ivan the Butcher in California. He requested more UN Peacekeepers. Mateo agreed, planning to send the retreating Peacekeepers from the mid-Atlantic to the west coast.

Albena saw a massive retreat of UN Peacekeepers from Manhattan and told Mayor Fine. He called Tracy McCain to discuss it. She said she’d contacted Senator Dannon and was planning to meet him in Utica. Mayor Fine told her not to be alone with him because of some rather suspicious incidents in his past, and suggested she go straight to Albany and get on live TV to show everybody she was alive and well. He also told her about the actions of the UN in Manhattan, and the death threat he got from Governor Romano. Tracy got worried and agreed to talk to a friend who worked for NBS, to make the TV appearance. After that call, Mateo called Governor Fine, telling him that there had been misunderstandings, and that he was pulling back the UN Peacekeepers.

After Mateo talked with Mayor Fine, he set up a conference call with Charles, Maggie, Lance, and Jean. They discussed the pull-out of UN Peacekeepers from NYC and Philadelphia. Lance mentioned that Mayor Fine and his administration had left the City Hall bunker, and that he was sparring with a very sharp hacker on the MVS system and other New York City systems. They agreed to go slower in Manhattan, and the first priority was to find and kill as many members of the resistance as possible.

While John Clancy was writing, he got a text from an unknown person saying he was in danger. He ignored it. A few minutes later he got a voice call. A man with a slight Italian accent told him to look into his social score, and sent him a link to a Homeland Security website, along with a password. John told Linda, and they got on the site. They found that the social scoring system had been up and running for months, even though the government was making a big deal about voting for it recently. John used the password to access the details for his score, which had black marks for all his books. His social score was almost maxed out to the bad side. John called the mysterious man back. He revealed that his name was Salvatore and offered protection. He also pointed out that even Linda had a negative mark against her, which they checked. It was for buying a plastic bag at the grocery store. Craig was also in trouble for his political column. John and Linda agreed to meet with Salvatore at their house that evening.

Tracy McCain stood Senator Dannon up in Utica and went to the NBS station in Albany, where she did the press conference Mayor Fine had suggested. Senator Dannon hooked up with a bar fly named Kay and headed to Albany after Tracy called him the next morning.

Mayor Fine received a confidential PDF file from the late Governor Romano’s staff, saying they were still in control, martial law was staying in place, and social scoring would be adopted immediately. Comments from the Mayors of all major cities in the state was requested. Meanwhile some demonstrators showed up in Manhattan to protest the removal of the UN Peacekeepers, and counter-protesters showed up in much larger numbers, ready to do battle. Chief Harvey brought in NYPD officers before things got out of hand.

The Boston team was trained on new Hybrid vehicles at the base in Hanscom.

Salvatore arrived at John and Linda’s house for the evening visit. He showed them how Craig’s article went viral on 8Chan, getting millions of views. The connection between Craig and John was brought up on the message boards there, and now John’s books were selling like crazy. While they were talking, one of Salvatore’s men called, saying the enemy was starting their operation early. He told John and Linda that they had to leave immediately. They loaded into John’s SUV and took off as gunfire in the valley ramped up.

Tracy McCain was knocked out and kidnapped, waking up in a holding cell. Romano’s secretary Clara entered the cell, and began telling her what would happen next. Tracy was belligerent and Clara didn’t know how to handle it. Lotte came into the cell and ordered Clara out. Clara resisted and Lotte shot her dead, then told Tracy she wanted to make a deal. The two left the cell together.

John talked to Craig, telling him he was about to get picked up for his columns, and that he shouldn’t resist, because there were insiders in the prison he was being taken to. Later that evening UN operatives stormed his house with assault weapons, taking him away, leaving Pat sobbing.

Mayor Fine called Jared to discuss leaving the bunker. Jared suggested a location that had a bunker underneath, at Lexington and 118th Street, half a block from NYPD Precinct 25, which Chief Harvey planned to occupy. They discussed the situation with Tracy McCain, who Jared thought had been turned by the enemy. After the call with Jared, Mayor Fine had a call with Tracy. She told him about some activity regarding John Clancy on 8Chan. Mayor Fine got off the call and went to 8Chan, realizing immediately that Tracy had not been turned. She was being held hostage by the enemy and had just provided him with a secure back channel to her via the message boards. The intel team looked at what Tracy had set up and confirmed that it was a method to pass messages. They also saw that Craig’s articles had gone viral, and were dragging John’s books along as well. Globalist operators were on the message boards trying to call the material racist, but were getting their heads handed to them in the arguments.

John, Linda, and Salvatore got to the hideout, under a steel mill in Pottstown.

The Boston team was heading home on the Concord Turnpike, each in their own hybrid fighting vehicle. There was a big UN checkpoint at the entry point to the city. Jaak told them to take it out with the weapons on the hybrids – railguns and lasers. The team rushed in, surprising the UN Peacekeepers, destroying the checkpoint and killing many enemy fighters, armed citizens rushing in to finish the job as the team split up, heading into the city.

Tracy had been on TV over and over again as she put actions into place to help the people of New York. Lotte tried to reign her in. Tracy bucked her hard, saying Lotte would have to kill her to stop her. Then Carrie, Tracy’s secretary said Dan Dannon had arrived and was coming up to her office. Lotte got nervous, pulling her pistol, telling Tracy she’d kill them both if there was trouble. Dannon recognized Lotte the moment he got into the room and went for his pistol, Lotte firing, hitting him several times in the chest, dropping him to the floor, but not before he got off a shot, hitting Lotte in the forehead. UN security guards rushed in to take over, holding guns on Tracy and Carrie. Dannon fired from the floor, killing both guards. He was wearing a Kevlar vest. More UN guards rushed towards the office, Dannon dropping all of them before they could get off a shot, as Tracy and Carrie called the news crews still in the parking lot to come back. Tracy insisted on a live feed and went on all the network channels, telling the people what was happening. While they were on the way, Tracy asked Dannon if he had killed Senator Walter. He said he did, and had proof that Walter was part of the enemy operation.
