Apparently There Were Complaints, page 28
And, finally, to Marcia Wilkie. There would be no book without her. If you didn’t like it, blame her.
To the rest of my family, many who have both laughed and cried with me… or perhaps because of me. I thank you and simultaneously apologize: Kathy Gless, Anita Gless, Bridget Gless Keller, Paul Keller, Kevin Gless, Bryan and Miranda Gless, Patrick Gless, Gregory Gless, Lesley Worton and Steve Springer. Also Laura Abrahamson, Lisa Hudson, Alexandra Stimson, and Charlotte Stimson. And, to my family on Barney’s side: My three wonderful stepdaughters: Erika Handman, Allyn Rosenzweig, and Torrie Rosenzweig, along with my three beautiful granddaughters: Hailey Laws, Greer Glassman, and Zoey Rosenzweig. Also David Handman, John Coldiron, Joni Benickes, Miles Benickes, Joel Rosenzweig, Joan Rosenzweig, and Marc Rosenzweig.
I am an actor/actress. I answer to both. It appears I am now also an author. The stories in my book most often include only one other person, two or three at the most. As a result, my stories sadly exclude many that I love. Dearly.
Most of the people in my life, with whom I am close, are not mentioned by name in my book. I’d like to fix that. They are the people with whom I have shared my career, my fellow actors who carried me in each of my television series for the last fifty years.
My love and gratitude for them lives in my heart forever.
FARADAY AND COMPANY:
Dan Dailey, James Naughton, Geraldine Brooks
SWITCH:
Robert Wagner (who saved my considerable ass. I love you, Marv.)
Eddie Albert, Charlie Callas
TURNABOUT:
John Schuck
HOUSE CALLS:
Wayne Rogers (well…)
CAGNEY & LACEY:
Thank you for welcoming me in! We never had time to play. The fourteen-hour days and nights never allowed it.
Tyne Daly (as good as it gets! My life went into high definition from working with you and being the recipient of your unfailing friendship. I love you, my partner.)
Stephen Macht (always there for me), John Karlen, Al Waxman, Marty Kove, Carl Lumbly, Sidney Clute, Harvey Atkin, Merry Clayton, Robert Hegyes, Dan Shor, and Dick O’Neill (the best dad ever).
THE TRIALS OF ROSIE O’NEILL:
Dorian Harewood, Ron Rifkin, Georgann Johnson, Lisa Banes, Lisa Rieffel, Elaine Kagen, Bridget Gless, Meg Foster, Brenda Vaccaro, and Ed Asner (thank you for it all, dear Ed!)
And, again, Robert Wagner (for the loveliest love scenes. And, for breaking your rule regarding guest spots. You came to save me… again. And again. And again. You have my heart forever.)
Carole King wrote my theme song “I Wish I Knew.” And Melissa Manchester recorded it for me. How blessed was I? Thank you, brilliant women!
QUEER AS FOLK:
Without question, the bravest actors I know:
Gale Harold, Randy Harrison, Hal Sparks, Peter Paige, Scott Lowell, Robert Gant, Michelle Clunie, Thea Gill, Jack Wetherall, and Peter MacNeill.
Love and thank you to my driver and dearest friend, Al Izumi.
BURN NOTICE:
Jeffrey Donovan (still my boy), Gabrielle Anwar (as beautiful on the inside), Bruce Campbell (funniest man alive), and Coby Bell (a gem).

You’ve got to have friends. I do. And I am wholeheartedly thankful. I may have met you professionally, but your existence in my world is oh, so personal to me.
Thank you, Jach Pursel and Lazaris, for your decades of love and guidance.
Peter Forster, you were a life-changer for me. I can’t begin to show enough gratitude.
Dan Lipman and Ron Cowan, you gave me Debbie and Debbie gave me a whole new career. My deepest appreciation.
Matt Nix, for casting me in my longest-running series.
Brian Eastman and Jane Prowse, your creative vision and dedication are forever part of my favorite memories. I have overflowing gratitude and… wait for it… respect and love for you both.

For many years, the following magicians personally kept me powdered, puffed, cut, colored, curled, and even sometimes, glowing: Charles Ross, Carolyn Elias, Bob Jermain, Stephen Lynch, James O’Reilly, Tracey Taylor, Luis Gonzales, and Sophia Katzman. Thank you. Sometimes we fooled them!
* * *
Marie Osmond and Tracy Baim, thank you for the perfect referral. You got that so right.
* * *
To those whose effect on my life has been enormous, my gratitude and love go to: Ann Wilson, Gail Reese, Jackie Danson, Anna Kerslake, Daf Llewelyn, Mary Lea, Helen Cook, Rosemary Bell, Angie Brown, Beverley Faverty, Judy Samelson, Brooke Plantenga, Lee Wallman, Paul Gendreau, Catherine Hamilton, Leena Dunne, Linwood Paul, The Light Group, all my R Family family, Gloria Steinem, Charlie Chaplin, and at last… Debra Goodstone.

To those who are my forever friends for many reasons, who are not in the book and should be, but I ran out of room. You exist permanently in the sphere of my smitten heart: Deb Mosk, Dr. Debra Shapiro, Peggy Griffin, Lupita Corbeil, Hannah Shearer, Deeny Kaplan, Marcy Lefton, Ellen Jacoby, Dr. Linda Ford, Stanley Miller, Sarah Chanin, Daniel Thurman, Adriann Ramirez, Jimmy Hawkins, Frank Gangi, Carole Cook, Tom Troupe, Nancy Heller, Arnie Kane, Dr. Warren and Maxine Finkelstein, Donald Ramsey and Wade Hansen (my Marguerites), Janine Ostow (the Queen of Joe’s Stone Crab—Miami Beach), Peter Landroche (Musso and Frank Grill—Hollywood), Craig Susser (Craig’s Restaurant—West Hollywood), and… Lee Grant, Joe Feury, and Phyllis Fioretti (their kitchen—NYC).
I am blessed.

About the Author

Sharon Gless does not have a hobby. There are no personally handcrafted items in either of her homes, not in Los Angeles or Miami. One time, she roasted some nuts for a Super Bowl party. Other than that, her cookware is virgin. She has no pets. She doesn’t even want to foster one, even as a phony service animal. All indoor plants are on their own. She can swim fifty-six lengths in a pool and does so two times a year when a trainer stands poolside shouting “Looking good! Doing great.” Twice a year is not a hobby.
Sharon is a multi Emmy Award– and Golden Globe–winning actress, with eighteen total nominations. She has starred in hundreds of TV episodes and played the lead in dozens of TV movies and miniseries, with a long list of character roles and guest-star appearances. She has starred in the West End of London three times. Her list of radio plays is endless. Acting is not a hobby. Acting is her very life force.
Apparently, she is now an author. It’s a one-off.
She does have a website: SharonGless.com.
