Tinker was laying in his bed half asleep, half awake a couple of hours later. He was debating getting up when he heard a knock upon his suite's door. He thought about ignoring it but heard it again. Tinker sighed and forced himself up out of bed and moved to answer it as he heard a third knocking. Tinker checked to see if his personal protections were in place and then looked over to see if Dan was .. missing?” Tinker opened his door and found one of the palace staffers in a nervous fit. Tinker tilted his head and said “Yes. Can I help you?” The staffer bowed and replied. “Your services are needed, Mage Tinker. Your Guardian has blocked access to a group of young maidens and won’t let anyone near them.” Tinker held up a finger and went in to equip his sword belt then returned and waved the dwarf staffer to lead on.

Tinker was led down to the first floor and towards the garden entrance way. Here in a side room stood Dan with his hackles raised and bearing his teeth. Tinker stopped and examined all the dwarfs present. Two had battle axes out and looked to have met his protections he had placed on Dan that morning. Those two were looking nervous as Dan was dead set on attacking either one if they moved. Tinker backed Dan by saying. “Those two need to be held until the king has been informed of what has happened here. Dan, I need you to guard these two until the guards get here. Now if you all will excuse me I’ll just check to make sure the young maidens are well. I won’t be but a moment. He walked past Dan who kept his eyes on the two axe wielders looking like he was ready to tear their necks open. Tinker just looked inside and found one young maiden with her dress torn and another sporting a swelling bloody lip. Both crying. Tinker was going to heal them and repair their clothes but stopped and took a deep breath and turned around slowly.

The two dwarfs thought the overly large wolf was the main threat but took a step back as they saw the look coming at them from this human youth. Even the growling wolf quieted as it looked up at his master and started to make that weird laughing sound as he stared back at the two about to be beaten to a bloody mess dwarfs. Tinker soon recognized the two as the henchmen from this morning. Tinker was daring them to make any tiny movement so he could tear them apart. Just then Garian and his brother the King arrived with a group of women. Tinker held his hand up to stop Garain and his brother but waved the dwarven women in as he kept his own eyes glued to the two dwarfs.

Garain had seen Tinker in a few battles but he had never seen the lad this focused. If Garain only knew just how focused, and ramped up, Tinker had enhanced himself. Garain would have moved everyone away calling for a priest to pray over these two walking dead. Which just left what had these two done..One of the married women came out and gave such a look of outrage at the two dwarfs, everyone but Tinker flinched.

He was just waiting for the word to be given to cut those two down to plant food sizes. The one woman that had stepped back out and gave the two dwarfs murderous stare said. “They attack two of our maidens, ripping their clothes almost off them. If this wolf of Mage Tinkers hadn’t stopped them they would have raped them.” Now every dwarf present was giving the two murderous looks. Tinker, seeing that these two weren't going to escape justice, eased back upon his enhancements and asked would it be ok if he healed the two maidens and repaired their clothes? The women patted Tinker on his shoulder and agreed. Tinker sighed and then without turning around healed the two and repaired their clothes. Not once did Tinker take his eyes off these two before him and as one both went on the attack when the women brought out the two young maidens. Tinker didn’t even blink as he pulled his two short swords out and sliced the two battle axes in half from head to hand guard. Tinker's defense was so fast that the two were still blinking their eyes as their battle axes fell apart in their hands. All Tinker said was. “Please give me the excuse to cut you up to plant sized feed.” Then four dwarven warriors appeared and hauled the two off.

Tinker took a deep breath and then moved out into the garden with Dan following beside him. Tinker walked out among the now flourishing garden and examined it as he strolled along its crushed stone pathways. He found himself standing before the dwarf statue that was holding its battle axe above its head which was glowing to provide the needed light so this garden could grow healthy. Tinker kneeled and was patting Dan saying he was proud he was his guardian when an overly rude dwarf voice interrupted him saying. “Without that wolf you're not anyone special. Just a jumped up human pup.” A long hacking cough and spitting sound followed that, Tinker looked at Dan and in a normal bored sounding voice said. “You just can’t talk to some Idiots, some you have beat to death and hope they learned enough to not repeat their stupidity when they get reborn.” Tinker patted Dan and told him “Go stand next to the statue and don’t interfere in the fight that is about to happen.” Tinker then turned around and found the two henchmen's boss as he figured. Just then Garain, Hendle and King Ouramon came out just as the dwarf from IronHammer called out. “I challenge you to a duel to the death, human.”

Tinker tilted his head then sighed and replied. “And I accept idiot. Any last request before we start?” The dwarf chuckled and said. “Only that no one interferes as I kill you.” Tinker turned and looked at everyone and said. “I, known as Mage Tinker, call upon Garth Orc's Bane and his brother Thanos Worldbreaker to witness this duel to the death and that they prevent anyone from interfering until this duel is done.” And a circle glowed around them so that none could enter even if either one of them wished it. Tinker didn’t pull out his swords, he was still too mad about seeing those two maidens abused. Tinker ramped up his enhancements so the fool was moving so slow Tinker saw him pull out a pouch of powder and start to sling it at him.

Tinker just waited and once the powder was released he magically flung it back into the dwarfs face and again waited and as the dwarf inhaled the dust. Tinker moved forward and stuck the dwarfs' throat crushing his windpipe and then heart punched him crushing it. Then stepped back to allow the dwarf to fall upon his face dieing. The circle faded away and Tinker waved Dan to follow him as he made his way back to his room. Every dwarf there cleared a path and said “Witnessed” as he passed them. He stopped at the garden door entrance. And said over his shoulder. “I didn’t want this to happen. But I’ll never back down, to do so would only encourage bullies to become bigger bullies. I hope the future can be brighter than this.” Then he returned to his room with Dan.

The dwarves that were standing there had turned their backs to the dead dwarf and filed back inside, leaving the dead dwarf to be carted off to wherever they buried idiots and fools. It was later found out the dead dwarf was a thief and trouble maker and been sent off with his two henchmen to redeem themselves though battling the death ritualists. His two henchmen would be the only dwarfs that would be battling without the magical fighters shields and flask of holy spirit water. They either fought well and survived or they died. Tinker had remained within his room for almost a week after that, taking his meals in his room. He worked out and practiced his forms with and without his butterfly short swords. He did accept a few of those first year earth mages that wanted to further learn how to use their magic to make works of art. Tinker had figured out how to magically change powdered stone dust colors and to apply them in crafting. He had made a flower pot with colorful flowers, birds or butterflies upon them as a way to show what the students should work toward which excited them all.

But outside of that Tinker didn’t deal with anything else. One day Garain showed up and asked if he could come in? Tinker nodded yes and poured them a tankard and once they both had taken a swallow Garain said. “Tinker, what happened was not your fault. Those three were just plain bad. Their own King sent them off to War to get rid of them.” Tinker held his hand up to stop Garain while replying. “I’m not holding up here in my room because of them, but because my presence brought harm to those two young Maidens. By my being around, Non Stonefoot dwarfs think any maiden not covered is a tavern wench and offering what tavern wenches flaunt for tips and ahhh, well you see what I’m saying here right. They don’t deserve to have to go around covered head to toe in fear of being attacked like that. And my being present leads those dwarfs from outside to thinking the worst of them.”

Garain sighed as he had heard something like this from the elders of the families. Tinker had taken two of his gemstones and crafted enchanted visions of beautiful places he had seen running through the elves' forest and sent them as gifts hoping that would encourage the two to once again brave the palace gardens.

Tinker had also worked on ways to do ranged damage by placing magical area effect spells such as his chain lightning upon his gorilla glass arrows. He had worked out some others by enchanting small stones that would be shot by using a slingshot. An instant favorite among the dwarven hunters and scouts. So, when word came of where the war meeting was to be held Tinker almost lost his seat from laughing so hard for it was to be at the elves southern border castle fort. Only Dan understood why it was so humorous. As it was a place Tinker had made and the elven seers said would be the place the death ritualist would strike at.
