Screwed By The Fates, page 9
She looks at me like she’s shocked. “Not even from...”
I shake my head. “Nope. Not even close.”
Her jaw drops. I know she’s talking about an ex of mine who had a tongue and knew how to use it. I would have multiple orgasms when he used it, but that was nothing compared to tonight.
I let out a sigh as I throw my head back against the couch. “We started out arguing. He was yelling at me about being at the bar when it was ladies night. He was pissed because I’m a mated female and shouldn’t have been there dancing with all of those guys.” I laughed at the irony.
Kyrsta gives me a look and I shake my head. “Are you fucking kidding me? He had the nerve to come at you with that? He was there as well!” She slams back into the couch, frustrated.
“I know, and that’s why we were arguing, but then it just happened. I don’t know, Kyrsta. It just turned from a fight into a hot and heated kiss, to him pinning me to the wall and the most amazing sex I’ve ever had.” I place my hands on my head and let out a breath of air.
“Wow. Just wow." She looks shocked. "I honestly don’t know what to say. I mean, I knew this was going to eventually happen.”
I glare at her and she holds her hands up. “What? You can’t tell me you haven’t felt the sexual tension whenever you two are together. It’s through the roof. The way I see it babe, you have nothing to feel guilty about. He’s one of your mates, Amana, you have every right to be with him.” She grabs my hand in hers.
“He’s not one of my mates. I mean, in a way he is, but then again he’s not. Kyrsta, I could feel him holding back on claiming me. My wolf is pissed at me for not claiming him when we had the chance.”
Kyrsta bursts out laughing.
“Oh my gods! I can just imagine the look on his face if you would have done that!” She falls over on the couch laughing and before I know it, I’m laughing right along with her.
It’s early morning before I head home. I feel a little better after talking everything out with my bestie. I’m still a little apprehensive about seeing Zane. Since we mated it’s like he can read me like a book, and even the thought of sharing me sends him into a fit of rage.
Sighing, I open our front door, carefully listening for him. When I don’t hear anything I head to the bedroom as quietly as I can. Undressing quickly and quietly, I slip under the covers.
“Hmm, did you have a good time with Kyrsta?” He pulls me to him and nuzzles my neck. I freeze just waiting for him to smell Braylon on me but when he just inhales deeper and sighs, I relax.
“Yeah, we left early and just chilled at her house instead. We had more fun just the two of us with girl talk and snacking.”
He chuckles. “You two and your junk food. Get some sleep, baby.” He kisses my neck and settles in.
I close my eyes and say a prayer to the gods above. I don’t know what I’m going to do, but my life is one total fuck up right now.
The next morning I’m up before Zane, my guilt eating at me even after Kyrsta told me I had nothing to feel guilty for.
I spent half the night arguing with my wolf and I honestly think I’m going insane. She keeps yelling inside my head about how we should have claimed him when we had the chance and his wolf wouldn’t have given him the chance to back out. He would have claimed me right then and there, whether he wanted to or not. But I refuse to take his choice from him. Not to mention my father would kill me.
I’m sitting at my spot by the hot springs, still arguing with her, when I feel more than hear him approach.
“You know you’re not supposed to be here, Josh.”
He lets out a small laugh. “How did you know it was me?” He sits down next to me and I give him a look.
“Really? I can tell when any of you are close. This fucking bond is driving me fucking bat shit crazy. But seriously, you can’t keep sneaking around here. If someone catches you it won’t be good, for either of us.”
He sighs and runs his hands through his hair.
“I know but, Amana I can’t stay away. Braylon and your dad might not want us to be mates, but damn it, I do. I never in my life expected to find my mate, let alone my fated mate, but here you are. I’ll be damned if I let you go. Deserie was right, you have nothing to do with why our packs are at war. WE have nothing to do with it. So why are we being punished?” He looks at me and it hits me hard.
My wolf whines. Yeah, why are we being punished? Mine.
TWENTY
Josh
I’ve asked her the questions that have been running through my head. It’s true. Deserie said them and I want to know the gods damn answers. Why are we being punished for what others did? We’re fated mates and shouldn’t have to be apart because other people fucked up. I’m tired of being miserable. I want my fucking girl.
“Josh, I can’t go against my family. I know we’re mates but it’s… it’s just...” She shakes her head and I can see how much this is upsetting her. I can’t do it anymore. I can’t stand to see her in this much pain.
I scoop her up and place her in my lap, holding her tight. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you. It just hurts not being with you and I don’t mean the way Deserie said it would.”
She looks up at me. “What do you mean? Is your wolf starting to get weak?” Her eyes get big and the green in them are swirling. It’s a beautiful sight.
I cup her cheek in my hand. “Baby, I couldn't care less about that. The pain I’m talking about is my heart. It’s killing me that you have the bond with Zane, I don’t get to experience that with you. My wolf is calling out to you and every time that there’s no answer my heart breaks more and more. You were made for us. There will never be another.”
She closes her eyes and my wolf howls as tears start to stream down her face. “Sshhh, baby don’t cry, please don’t cry. I can’t stand to see you cry.” I pull her tighter to me and rock her back and forth.
“I don’t know what to do. I do want you, all of you. My wolf is so angry with me for not doing what I’m supposed to be doing. But with what is going on with you and Braylon, and then there’s Zyair. Gods, then Zane. Oh gods, he would kill all of you.”
She starts crying harder and my wolf growls, furious at the way everyone has upset her. I try to think of a way to calm her but all I can do right now is hold her tightly to me.
We’ve been sitting here just listening to the sounds of the springs, her wrapped up in my arms for about an hour, before we’re interrupted. Completely caught off guard.
“What the fuck is going on?” Amana scrambles to her feet, almost tripping as she gets up. I grab her arm to steady her.
“Zane, what are you doing here?” she mumbles as she wipes off her jeans and straightens her shirt.
“What am I doing here? What the fuck Amana? Why in the gods name are you here with him? Are you fucking kidding me? You left our bed to come and roll around with him?”
I see Amana flinch and my wolf growls. How dare he speak to her like that! I take a step towards him, my fists clenching.
“Hey! Don’t talk to her like that! She’s done nothing wrong. We were just talking.” He growls at me. The motherfucker growled at me and I laugh. I guess I pissed the big bad Beta off because the next thing I know he lunges at me, knocking me to the ground.
“You sorry son of a bitch. Who do you think you are going after my mate? I’m gonna kill you!” he yells at me.
“She’s my fucking mate too, you asshole!” I yell back as I flip us, me now on top as I throw a punch, watching his head snap to the side.
“What the hell! Stop! Zane, you’re being ridiculous. We weren’t doing anything but talking. Josh, please stop!” Amana is pleading with us but my wolf is seeing red. He’s seeking blood and determined to have it.
“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?” I hear a roar through my haze of anger and look up to see Alpha Hayden glaring down on us.
I look down at Zane and grin at the mess I’ve made. His eye is already starting to swell shut, his nose is obviously broken, and his lips are split. I get one last punch in because hell, why not.
Then I roll off of him and stand up, taking my place next to Amana. I stand to my full height with my head held high. I will not back down. I was defending my mate's honor and that asshole started it. Fuck that.
“Dad, it’s not...” Amana tries to talk but he glares at her as he holds up his hand. She lowers her head.
“Amana, I want to hear from the fools that had the nerve to be rolling around like pups. Well boys?”
Zane pulls himself off the ground and grunts.
“This asshole had his hands all over my mate like he had a claim on her,” he growls out.
“She’s my mate as well!” I yell back at him.
He takes a step towards me like he’s ready to come at me and I grin. If he wants to go again I’m more than ready to teach him another lesson. He may heal quickly, but it’s worth it.
Before the Alpha can reply, Amana starts yelling. “That’s it! I’m done!”
She turns to her father first. “Dad, I’m so sorry but I can’t do this anymore. I know it’s going to hurt you and Hanson, but I’m hurting more. I’m hurting so bad you can’t understand. I’m claiming my mates and if you can’t understand that, then I guess we will go somewhere else.”
She takes a deep breath and turns to Zane. “Zane, we’ve completed our bond and I love it. I wouldn't change a thing, but I need them as well. So you can accept it or don’t. It’s up to you. The same goes for you, Josh. Accept all of my mates or you won’t be one.”
I give her the biggest grin. “I’ll accept anyone you want me to, baby, as long as I have you.”
With that, she nods and walks off with everyone staring at her. Damn, that girl is something else. I look at the Alpha and Beta, standing there completely confused and pissed, and almost laugh. Then remember who they are. Shit, I need to go. As fast as I can I take off after my mate.
She will be completely mine very soon. I'm not wasting any time.
TWENTY-ONE
Zyair
Three weeks. It’s been almost three weeks of pure unadulterated pain.
I spent a day and a half at my cabin and just as I was about to leave to make my way back to Amana, Christina called me back. Her delight over the fact that Amana was now star-crossed to be mates to her rivals was sending her through the roof with joy.
“This is just the opening we needed!” she exclaims. I haven’t seen her this excited in a while.
When I walk in, the sight before me is one that makes my stomach drop. “Christina, what is this?”
She gives me a grin that would put the Cheshire cat to shame. “These are our new recruits and you are going to train them. I want you to make them the best that we have.” I can only stare at her. They brought in more vampires?
“Christina, I’m sorry, I don’t understand. We already have thousands of members. Why would you bring in more? Also, why am I training them? I’m supposed to be watching the Alpha's daughter.” She’s pulling me off of Amana? No, that can’t happen. My pulse starts to race.
“Calm down Zyair, it’s only temporary. I want our new recruits trained by you because you are the best and we both know this. As for the she-wolf,” she shrugs. “We know daddy dearest is going to have her on lockdown after hearing that she’s mates to their biggest rivals. We also still have our men in the Aztec pack so we will know if there’s any movement there. Things will be fine while we do what we must here.
"Now, let’s get these newbies whipped into shape!” she exclaims and I do the only thing I can do. I nod and walk over to her new recruits.
My body is wearing down and I’ve been going through blood bags more than usual. I know what’s wrong, but at the moment there's nothing I can do about it. If I try to sneak away, Christina will know something is up and I can’t risk that.
She notices anyway. “Zyair, come here my dear.” I cringe when she pulls me to the side.
“Yes, Christina.” I give her a slight bow. She purses her lips as she takes me in.
“My dear boy, what is wrong with you? You look like hell. I mean, you’re pale as can be and that’s saying a lot for our kind.” She runs her hand down my cheek and I hold in my cringe.
I look away from her. “I think I drank some bad blood. It will run its course, I just have to give it some time.”
She gives me a frustrated sigh. “Zyair, when are you going to give in and stop with those damn bags of blood?”
I try my best not to ball my fist, to keep my anger away. She’s been trying to get me to join her and the rest of them with their enjoyment of drinking from the vein for years. This gives me an idea.
“Maybe you’re right. Maybe I need some fresh blood to rejuvenate my body.” I sigh as I run my hand down my face. Her eyes light up.
“Wonderful my dear. We have quite a lovely selection today. Why don’t you come with me and we will find you a tasty little thing.” She grabs my hand but I dig my heels in. She stops and looks at me.
“Christina, please. You know how I feel about this. I’m willing to do this because my body is hurting and I need it, but I need to do it my way.” I give her a pleading look, hoping she will fall for it.
She lets out a deep sigh. “Zyair, you need to learn that you are what you are, and that this is how things are done. You’re depriving your body of what you need and are only hurting yourself. But, if this is what you want to do then fine. You have two days, two days to get yourself together. I expect you back here at full strength, ready to go.” She glares at me and I nod.
I walk as calmly as I can out of the room, but as soon as I make it out of sight I take off. I need to get to Amana.
I make it to Ajax pack land in record time, my body is hurting but I push that aside. I need to find her. Just as I cross into their territory I’m accosted by two wolves and let me tell you, they are not happy to see me.
“What do you think you’re doing, vampire?” one growls at me.
I roll my eyes at him. “I’m here to see the Alpha's daughter. It’s an emergency.”
The other laughs at me. “Do you honestly think we’d put her in danger by letting her near a bloodsucker?”
I glare at him. “Well, get me the damn Alpha then! I don’t have to stand here and deal with you imbeciles!” I roar and my vision starts to blur as we yell back and forth. Our shouting match has attracted a few more wolves and one of them is the Beta, Zane. Amana’s mate. Great.
“I didn’t think you were coming back. This is mighty brave of you, vampire.” He crosses his arms over his chest and smirks at me. My patience is running thin.
“Zane, I need to speak with Amana and her father. You know why. We’re running out of time.”
He laughs. “That was a whole lot of bullshit sprouted by some crazy lunatic. Besides, Amana isn’t here.” He grinds his teeth and looks away.
My stomach drops. What the hell?
“What do you mean she isn’t here? Where the fuck is she Zane?” I yell at him, worry coursing through me.
“My mate is none of your concern!” he yells back. I ball my fists. Fuck this. I need to find her. I need to know she’s safe.
I turn and head back into the woods. Maybe Braylon or Josh know where she’s at. It’s a long shot but the only one I have at the moment.
“Hey, you're Amana’s fourth mate, the vampire, right?” I look at the small girl who’s stopped a couple of feet away from me. I eye her, and once I realize she’s come to me with concern, I nod.
“Yes, my name is Zyair. Who are you?”
She looks down at her hands. “I’m Kyrsta, her best friend. Amana has taken off with Josh. She got into it a while ago with her dad and Zane when they caught her talking to Josh. She’s been miserable without all of you and she couldn’t take it anymore. Why are you here?” She looks up at me, trying to figure out if my intentions are good or bad.
I give her a smile. “Because I’m feeling the same way. I need to see her. I can’t be away from her anymore. I know wolves and vampires don’t mix, but that’s not what my heart and body are telling me. My heart is telling me that it can’t be whole without her.”
She gives me a smile and nods. “That’s what I needed to hear. I will tell you where to find her.”
I’ve never been happier to have met a wolf than the one I just did. Kyrsta not only told me where to find Amana, but also shared what I can expect when I do find her.
Apparently, Josh has been feeling the same way I have been feeling. I have no clue about Braylon, but it’s safe to say he’s probably feeling some effects as well. I knew it was coming. I’m not one to disregard what a seer has to say. They are one of the most powerful supernaturals out there and are very rarely wrong.
I approach the small cabin that Amana and Josh are staying in and my pulse races. I can sense her and my fangs start to lengthen, a sign that my body is in need of hers. The air starts to smell of her, and my body automatically starts to head in the direction of where the scent is coming from.
“Zyair,” I hear her whisper and my eyes lock with hers. I waste no time in sweeping her off of her feet, burying my face in her hair. By gods she smells fucking amazing.
I hear Josh come outside and I look at him over her shoulder. He gives me a nod as a greeting.
“I was wondering how long it was going to take you to find us.” I give him a look of confusion and he laughs. “I couldn’t stay away from her, so I figured you couldn’t either. Braylon seems to be the only one who’s still holding onto his stubbornness. But I don’t see that lasting too much longer. Considering.” He just shrugs as he looks out into the woods and I frown. Considering what?
Amana squeezes me. “Come inside. We have a lot to talk about.”
I give her a nod. “Yeah, we do, little wolf.” It’s only then that I notice a second bite on her neck. It seems my little wolf has claimed her second mate.
Well, tonight my mark will be right there with it. My little wolf will be mine. No more fantasies. They will become reality.
