  Chapter 1

It felt like I was in a dreamless sleep until a bright light awakened me.

The last thing I remembered was sitting in my gaming chair playing Skyrim, but unless someone was shining a Maglite into my face, I had no idea what was going on.

I tried to rub at my bleary eyes, but something felt different. At first, I thought it was sleep paralysis and I couldn’t move, but then I realized I didn’t seem to have any hands, which was way more unsettling and disturbing. The glaring light in my face wouldn’t go away, either, and I couldn’t seem to clear my head.

  “What the fuck?” I muttered.

And then I heard a response, even though I was pretty sure I was home alone.

“I think I heard something!” a female voice gasped.

“Oh, praise the heavens!” another one replied. “Our god is finally here!”

This was one of the weirdest dreams I’d ever had.

My eyes started to adjust to the light, and I realized I couldn’t see my computer screen anymore. What was even more surprising was I was looking at a beautiful woman with long, gleaming blonde hair that fell down in waves to her waist.

  She was also blue.

  Blue skin, that is.

She was one of the most incredibly gorgeous women I’d ever seen, but her complexion was definitely cerulean in tone, and her outfit was equally insane. Her “top” consisted of strips of white gauze with bronze, flowery accents over her round, full, almost-bare breasts, and the bottom of the garment was little more than flimsy strips of pale fabric that wound between her legs and floated in the breeze.

In short, her clothing left little to the imagination.

The sky-blue woman knelt in a patch of bright green grass, and her hands seemed to be folded in prayer. Her eyes were turned upward, and the irises matched the tone of her skin. I could see a white, stone, roughly rectangular object in front of her, which appeared to be covered in ancient carvings, but when I tried to turn my eyes to the side to look around further, it appeared I had no control over my vision.

This had to be a dream, but it was a hell of a strange one.

“Uh, hello?” I tried to ask, although my voice seemed to be more of an inner monologue. “Can anyone tell me what’s going on?”

“Jack, you’re finally here!” the blue woman gasped, and as she looked up, a huge smile spread across her face. “I knew you would come!”

Okay, she knew my name. That was progress.

Then my eyes darted to the side, and I caught sight of another woman. This one actually looked human, and while she also knelt in the grass, her face was scrunched up in an expression of what appeared to be doubt. She wore the same bronze and white gauze-barely covering her bits-and-pieces-garment as the first woman, with intricate whirls of metal coming down across her nipples, but her hair was a deep brown, and she had a supermodel-like face with golden skin and huge, almost anime-style, dark eyes. I could see the sides of her breasts, well, I could pretty much see every part of her breasts save the nipple, and below them, my eyes traveled down her flat, tanned belly.

Whatever kind of dream this was, I didn't want to wake up anytime soon.

“I hear it, too,” the dark-haired woman said as she turned to her blue companion. “I have to admit I didn’t think anything was going to happen, Penelope, but I do hear something.”

“I can’t believe he actually came,” the blue woman breathed, but this time, the soft, female voice seemed to come from inside my head. “I wished it to be true, but it is finally happening! Jack is here!”

“Penelope?” I asked, and I confirmed I couldn’t hear anything coming out of my mouth. In fact, I wasn’t sure I had a mouth. I tried to reach down and touch my body, but I couldn’t feel anything at all. It was definitely a strange sensation, like that time I got wayyyy too drunk on whiskey sours at a friend’s wedding and just had to sit for an hour and soak in the dance music.

“He asked my name!” the blue-skinned beauty gasped. “Ohhh. Joy!”

  “Penelope, who are you?”

“I’m your devout servant, my lord,” the blue woman answered. “Tell me, what do you need from me? I will do anything I can to serve you. Thank you so much for answering our prayers, my heavenly lord.”

Well. This was getting more and more interesting by the minute.

“Uhh, I need you to tell me who you are in a little more detail,” I replied. I’d heard of lucid dreams before, where a person could actually control their actions, and I wondered if that was what was going on.

“Don’t you know, my lord?” the blue woman asked as she raised her arms heavenward. “We are your followers. We are your priestesses, and we have made a pilgrimage to this site in the hopes you would come to us. We have heard of the miracles you can perform, and we bow in awe to your greatness.”

I loved hearing a beautiful, albeit blue, woman tell me I was a god, but I was feeling stranger by the moment. It seemed like my body was only partially functional. My gaze was locked on what was directly in front of me, and I couldn’t feel any sort of physical body at all.

I attempted to blink a couple of times to see if I had eyes, but then my gaze suddenly shifted. I could still see the dark-haired woman, but I could now also see a gorgeous, strawberry-blonde kneeling in front of the altar, if that’s what it was. She was a head smaller than the other two women, but she also had her sea-green eyes turned upward and wore the same sexy outfit. My eyes scanned down her perfect figure, and I could see the sides of her creamy breasts.

But that wasn’t the most amazing thing about her.

The strawberry-blonde had iridescent wings that sparkled in what appeared to be the midday sun. They glimmered in a pale lavender shade and fluttered slightly in the breeze, and she seemed to be some sort of fairy. Her ears were small and pointed like other fairies I’d seen in books and games, and they only added to her exotic appearance.

I had to admit I’d always had a slight affinity for non-human women, and that probably came from all the video games I played and anime I watched. From Final Fantasy to Mortal Kombat, there were definitely tons of hot monster babes. My brain was bringing up some wild stuff today, but I decided to just go along for the ride.

How much did I have to drink last night?

“Ummm, yes, I am your lord, Jack,” I responded, and I heard hands clapping together. I tried to look for Penelope, but I realized I couldn’t see her anymore. The clapping sounded close, though, almost as if I were doing it myself. “I have come here to bless all of you.”

I heard a voice squeal, so it appeared I’d said the right thing, but neither the dark-haired woman nor the fairy seemed to have made the noise. Was it possible I was looking out through Penelope’s eyes? Now, all I could see were the sexy fairy and the dark-haired beauty, and I was even more confused.

“Penelope, it seems you may have been correct,” the fairy said in a soft, measured tone. “I am glad I made this trip with you, if Jack is now, in fact, here. I am ready to be blessed, my lord, whenever you see fit.”

“I suppose I am, too,” the dark-haired woman sighed. “Aleia, I trust your judgment. If you believe this is, in fact, the god Jack, I’m inclined to agree.”

“What, you don’t trust me?” the voice I now knew to be Penelope’s scoffed. “Nicola, we have traveled such a long way together, and I know you were doubtful as we walked, but it’s so clear Jack is finally here to save us.”

“I suppose…” the dark-haired woman muttered. “Penelope, you just get so… excited about things sometimes. It’s hard for me to believe what isn’t right in front of my eyes. But I do hear his voice inside my head, well, someone’s voice, anyway, so I will try to suspend my disbelief. At least for the moment, that is.”

“So… where am I exactly?” I performed my virtual blinking-twice motion again, and my view changed so I could see Penelope once more and the dark-eyed beauty I now assumed to be Nicola.

Was I seeing through the fairy’s eyes now?

“You don’t know, Jack?” Penelope responded with a frown. “I had a vision that we should come here, to the ruins of your long-forgotten temple, and you would come to us. We have been praying at this altar for a day and a night, and now you have come to grant us your blessed mercy. Isn’t it wonderful?”

“Okayyyy…” I said as I tried to think of exactly the right thing to say. “Well, I’m here now. Tell me what you need from me.”

Whatever this dream was, it seemed to be going on for a particularly long time. With these incredible creatures surrounding me, I wasn’t inclined to try to pinch myself with my seemingly nonexistent fingers to try to wake up, but this was definitely odd.

I double-blinked again, and suddenly my view expanded. I could actually glance around now, and I realized I could see all three women. They were all still in a kneeling position, but the fairy and the dark-haired woman who appeared human had settled back into more comfortable poses. Only blue-skinned Penelope was still fully on her knees in the grass, and her hands were clasped against her chest as she gazed skyward with her eyes widened in a devout expression.

I now noticed we were in what appeared to be an ancient garden, which was approximately twenty feet by twenty feet, and the ruins of a white stone wall covered in huge, thick green vines surrounded the three women. A large, gna rled apple tree grew in the corner of the space, and a few strawberries on vines emerged from what appeared to be a crumbling planter. I looked up, and the sky was a cloudless blue, and when I looked down again, I could see the women at about face-height.

  Weird.

“We need nothing but for you to accept our devotion,” Penelope responded as another beatific smile played across her full lips, which were deep red despite her blue skin.

“And something to eat…” Nicola griped as she rolled her eyes slightly at Penelope. “What good is a god if he can’t provide for his followers?”

“Nicola!” the blue woman gasped. “We cannot speak about Jack that way. I would not want to feel his wrath upon us, although I know he is a kind and loving god.”

“Hey, it’s fine,” I assured Penelope. “Don’t worry, I’m pretty laid back.”

When I said the modern expression, all three women looked around at each other with their eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

“Laid… back?” the fairy asked as she fluttered her wings slightly. “I do not see your physical form lying down, so I’m not sure what you mean, exactly. I can hear you speaking inside my mind, but your body is not present.”

“Never mind,” I replied. “Can you all tell me a little bit more about who you are?”

“Of course, my lord,” the blue woman said, and she placed a hand on her chest. “I am Penelope, and I am a naiad who comes from the springs of a faraway land. I was the leader of this pilgrimage, and I am a true believer in your everlasting glory. You may ask anything you wish of me.”

“A naiad, you say?” It rang a faint bell inside my mind, and I thought it might be from Greek mythology. “You have something to do with… water?”

“That is correct, Jack,” the blue woman said, and she nodded with a pleased grin on her face. “We naiads are nymphs who preside over rivers, lakes, and any other sort of fresh water. I hope you find me pleasing.”

“Yes, I certainly do,” I chuckled. “You are incredibly beautiful, and I’m very pleased to meet you.”

“Oh, you didn’t have to say that,” Penelope giggled, and a slight purple flush rose up her cerulean cheeks. “But I am glad to hear of your admiration. And this is Nicola, who is human. Aleia is a woodland fairy who has also come to worship you. Perhaps the other two priestesses are not quite as devout as I am, but I am sure you will convince them with your kind wisdom.”

“I… I hope so?” I wasn’t exactly sure what to say, since I’d never even imagined being treated this way before. “I will do my best to help you all. Aleia, Nicola, it’s nice to meet you, too.”

“Thank you,” the fairy murmured in a shy voice. “I am glad to make your acquaintance as well.”

“Yes, well, I suppose I am glad you have come to visit us,” Nicola said with a nod, and she tossed her long, chestnut hair over her shoulders. “I will pray to you, but I will need proof that you are the deity you claim to be.”

“I’m… I’m not sure how to do that, but I guess I will… win you over?” How did gods talk, anyway? Was it my job to convince them, or, as my presumed followers, were they supposed to pray to me and have complete faith in my powers?

I shook my nonexistent head. What the hell was I even thinking about? I didn’t understand what it meant for these women to be my followers.

  This dream was incredibly realistic.

“No, my lord, it is us who must win you over,” Penelope murmured and bowed her head. “That is our role as your priestesses. We will do anything within our power to please you. At least, I will.”

The naiad shot a pointed glance at Nicola, and the dark-haired woman rolled her huge, doe-like eyes.

“Don’t disparage me, Penelope,” Nicola responded. “Forgive me for not believing in a god I can’t see.”

“But you can hear him, can you not?” Penelope persisted. “You prayed along with me, so you must have believed. Just listen to his gentle voice, and you will feel his benevolence in your heart and your very soul.”

The naiad apparently believed in my gentleness and my benevolence, and I snickered a little to myself, because although I wouldn’t have called myself an asshole, I wasn’t exactly perfect, either. I certainly wasn’t a deity, and women had never treated me like anything resembling one. I knew the only reason I was letting this dream go on for so long was because of the way Penelope was worshipping me, and the three women’s spectacular bodies, perfect faces, and long hair that whipped across their faces in the breeze weren’t hurting anything, either.

I thought back to what I’d been doing before I woke up, and I wondered if the visions I was now having had something to do with the game I’d been playing. Skyrim had fairies, as did many other video games I’d played, although it was hard to imagine one as beautiful as Aleia. I looked around at the three women in their barely-there outfits, and none of it seemed familiar.

Since I’d been able to see through the eyes of all the women and what seemed to be the center of the garden, I approximated blinking two more times to see if there were any other lines of sight available to me.

“Oooh,” I breathed when I realized I could now see the garden from a birds-eye view. My glimpse of the women’s surroundings was partial, though. I could see what appeared to be streams of vision coming from where I knew their faces to be, and the visible parts of the garden kept shifting. It was as if there were beams from a flashlight that radiated out from the women’s eyes. From my overhead perspective, it appeared like what I could see changed as they moved their heads or looked in a different direction.

The rest of the area behind them and past the ruined walls around the altar were grayed out as if I were looking down at a dungeon map I hadn’t fully explored before. I could see Penelope was gazing at what I now knew for sure was a carved stone altar, but when she turned her head, the altar was covered by the fog of war again.

From the clear spaces that emerged in front of their eyes, I could see Aleia and Nicola were apparently looking at each other. It seemed every time the women’s gazes shifted, it changed what was visible to me. When Nicola glanced at the apple tree, I saw its twisted branches and the white, stone wall behind it, but I couldn’t see Aleia’s face anymore. I concluded I had the ability to see what the women were currently looking at, and I wondered if I’d previously been looking out from the altar itself, as it seemed to be located centrally in the space the women occupied.

I changed my gaze back to the altar view, and I glanced around at each woman in turn again. Despite their differences, they were each gorgeous in their own ways. I’d seen naiads and fairies in video games, anime, and fantasy paintings, but I couldn’t believe they were now appearing in front of me in such a realistic way.

What did I eat last night before I went to bed? Cheese? I gotta figure it out so I can have this dream again. It was fucking awesome.

“Alright, I need some food.” Nicola pushed herself to her feet, and I caught a glimpse of her entire body for the first time.

The white fabric and bronze circles that barely covered her nipples, plus the strands of cloth that flowed down over her trim legs, didn’t leave much to the imagination, if anything at all, and it was obvious she wasn’t wearing anything under her thin wisps of clothing.

Nicola’s long, golden legs stretched on for miles as she walked over to the apple tree in the corner and plucked off a ripe, golden piece of fruit. She took a bite of the apple, and then she looked over at her two companions.

“You can’t kneel forever, can you, sisters?” she asked. “I know you must be famished as well after our travels.”

“My lord, do you mind if I eat in your presence?” Penelope questioned me, and at first I attempted to shake my head before I remembered I didn’t seem to have a physical form.

“No, of course not, go ahead,” I responded, and that seemed to satisfy the naiad.

When Penelope and Aleia stood up, I saw their bodies were as perfect as Nicola’s. The fairy picked a red, juicy berry off a vine, and I stared as she parted her full lips and nibbled on it. Her pale violet wings flapped a little, and she seemed totally unaware of my gaze. I thought it was a good thing the women couldn’t seem to tell I was staring at them. It was hard to keep my eyes off the three beautiful creatures, and I was equally as awed by their presence as they seemed to be by mine.
