My attention shifted from the Victorian manor to the technomages’ kitchen window but caught on something shiny in the middle console of the car. The steel of a laser gun winked up at me, and I leaned over to see that the door was unlocked. Charles and Stacy probably didn’t expect anyone to break in, especially since our neighborhood wasn’t exactly known for violence and crime.
“What is it?” Atlesia asked and peered through the window. “Is that one of the guns?”
“It is,” I said with a smile. “Keep an eye on them for me. I want to take this thing with us. There isn’t enough left of the other one for us to study, and they’ve probably already picked it up by now.”
The conversation in the kitchen had escalated, and I could hear Joe’s shouts about Charles being a Ken doll. A smile spread across my face at the confirmation that it wasn’t just me that thought the man was practically an action figure, and their raised voices was the perfect cover as I popped open the door. Atlesia kept her eye on them, but it was easy to pinpoint everyone’s exact locations as Stacy jumped in to defend her husband.
My heart almost burst out of my chest as the hinges of the door creaked, but no one seemed to notice, and Atlesia shook her head to confirm that no one was looking outside. I snuck over the driver’s seat and grabbed the laser gun carefully before I closed the door and let out a sigh of relief. Some part of me expected the weapon to have a biological signature or something like in a sci-fi movie where it would go off or start to melt if someone other than its user tried to handle it, but the steel didn’t react at all as I shoved it in the back of my pants.
“You ready?” I asked and offered my hand to Atlesia again.
“Very,” the flower nymph said with a shiver. “It’s too cold out here, and the snow is starting to fall faster.”
“Whatever you say, Goldilocks,” I teased with a wink.
It felt like the entire world was in slow motion as we snuck down the driveway. I checked in both directions for any signs of a patrol, but everyone was in the house, so we made a beeline for our driveway. No shouts rang out from the front porch as we snuck through the barrier, but I didn’t breathe easy until the door to my grandmother’s old house shut behind us.
“That was so exciting!” Atlesia exclaimed as she tugged off her Uggs. “Almost as exciting as the will-o’-wisp hunt. Though, we did have more people then.”
“I’d love to see the technomages’ response to Rarus and Ramis,” I laughed and kicked off my boots. “If they think that you’re hostile, then they’re in for a rude awakening if they ever meet with minotaurs. Although, Ramis isn’t quite as hotheaded as his brother.”
The gun weighed heavily on the back of my pants, so I tugged it out and set it on the entryway table. It was dangerous to bring it inside of the barrier without securing it, but there was a box that Ira had given me for my amulet that would just barely fit the small weapon. The enchantments would keep the technomages from being able to use tracking spells on it, and if the symbol carved into the barrel was what made it erupt, then it would be blocked by the barriers around the chest.
It was hard to believe that the fanatics really thought that they weren’t using magic when the spells were so obviously carved on everything. But what I’d been able to figure out about Stacy’s notes made it obvious that they thought it was all just electromagnetic fields. Something one of my high school teachers said rang in the back of my mind about magic just being science that no one had figured out yet, and I made a mental note to do more research about the connections.
The library at Magia Schola might have something that could help, though Ira’s personal collections were more likely to have what I needed. Winter break was almost over anyway, so a trip back to the school wouldn’t be too suspicious, especially if it was to visit my favorite teacher. Professor Lovelace and I hadn’t been open about our relationship, but everyone on campus knew that the summoner had taken me under her wing.
“I think that even Ramis would want to challenge them,” Atlesia interrupted my thoughts. “Of course, he wouldn’t be nearly as amazing as you were when they attacked us on the road.”
I took a step closer to the flower nymph as her dark brown eyes glowed with mischief. It was the same look that she had the first time that we’d slept together in the library at school. I followed the tip of her pink tongue as it ran over her full lips, and a hot need swept through me like a tidal wave as she tossed the glamour stone onto the hallway table.
The tanned skin that she’d worn all day was washed away by the pale green that I was used to, and the turquoise color returned to her mouth. The flower nymph tugged her shirt off and dropped it to the floor with a smile, and I tugged the sexy woman closer by the hem of her skintight pants.
“I did work very hard to keep us safe tonight,” I whispered as I knelt in front of her. “I think I deserve a treat.”
Atlesia’s breath hitched as I yanked down her pants and underwear in one fluid motion. She was the perfect height for my mouth, and I ran my tongue along the inside of her slick thigh. A moan escaped my girlfriend as I began to lick closer to her sensitive nub, and the flower nymph’s fingers curled in my hair as she drove her hips down onto my face.
“You deserve everything,” she gasped as she started to shiver. “Whatever you want, Andrew. It’s yours.”
I teased her with my tongue as she gasped and leaned backwards so that I could have better access to her. My hands grasped the soft flesh of her perfect bubble butt as my girlfriend lost herself in an orgasm. I let her ride the rest of it out on my tongue while flowers erupted around the entryway and Atlesia panted with need.
“That’s a good start,” I said as I kissed up her stomach.
“What-what else do you want?” she asked as I nibbled on the stiff peak of her nipple.
“I want you in my bed,” I said and then swept her into my arms.
The flower nymph gasped as I bounded up the stairs and into my old room. Her lavender hair matched the wisteria vines that started to grow around the headboards, and I grinned as she parted her legs for me. Passion shone from the depths of her brown eyes, and the sweet girl vanished as she yanked me down on top of her.
“I want you inside of me,” she whispered in my ear before she moved to kiss my neck.
“If that’s what you want,” I grinned and slipped two fingers inside of her slick tunnel. “Then that’s what you’ll get.”
“Andrew,” Atlesia gasped as I played with her clit. “Andrew, I need you inside of me. Now.”
“I am inside of you,” I teased as her hips thrust down hard on my hand.
“You know that’s not what I mean,” she growled and started to unzip my pants.
My cock twitched against my jeans as she tugged me free, and it took all of my self-control not to thrust into her right then, but I wasn’t done making her climax. The record was two times in one night, and I was going to reach three before the flower nymph collapsed into peaceful sleep.
Another orgasm burst through her, and Atlesia arched backwards as pleasure coursed through her veins. Giant hydrangeas and roses covered every inch of my room, and the flower nymph’s legs wrapped around my waist to pull me closer.
“I want you inside of me, right now,” she demanded.
“Yes, ma’am,” I said and then leaned down to kiss her.
I slipped inside of her waiting tunnel and thrust forward until my balls slapped against her. The gasp that escaped the beautiful woman was so intoxicating that I did it again while her nails scratched down my back. I drank in every moan as we moved in time with each other, and soon my own orgasm was near.
Electricity pulsed through me as I came, and Atlesia lifted her hips as I poured into her. The flower nymph’s legs were locked around my waist like she never wanted to let go, and she shouted in ecstasy as the third orgasm washed over her. I gave one last thrust and then leaned down to claim her mouth in mine.
“Now I’m satisfied,” I whispered in her ear. “But next time, I’m going to make you cum four times.”
“I don’t know if I can handle that,” she panted as she kissed along my jawline. “But I know how much you love a challenge, and I won’t be the one to stand in your way.”
“You’re so generous,” I winked and then laid down. “And I believe these flowers are different from the ones in the library. Is there a reason for that?”
The fragrant blooms had already started to wither as the last orgasm faded, but there were a lot of hydrangeas and one tropical-looking flower that I didn’t recognize.
“I don’t know,” the flower nymph said around a yawn. “Maybe it’s the location?”
“Well,” I said and then stole another kiss. “We’ll just have to try different locations.”
“Mmm, that sounds nice,” she said as she cuddled into my side.
The beautiful woman was asleep in seconds, and I wasn’t far behind her. Our day out had been more eventful than the original plan had entailed, but we’d come out alive, and Atlesia was dreaming peacefully at my side.
I woke to the smell of bacon and hot coffee, and I realized that the bed next to me was completely empty. Atlesia was always up before me, but my goal was to one day have her sleep in after a long night of pleasure. I thought that three orgasms would be enough, but that just made the challenge that much more interesting.
A hot shower managed to work out all of the knots and soreness from the fight the night before. The technomages didn’t hit nearly as hard as Rarus, and my opponents in the underground arena used magic that could tear flesh from bone. I didn’t want to fight the weird sect again any time soon, but at least the beams from the guns weren’t too hard to avoid after learning how to dodge spells.
“Good morning,” I said as I padded down the stairs into the dining room. “Need help with anything?”
“Nope,” Atlesia said and skipped in with a plate of fresh fruit.
The flower nymph stole a kiss and then put down our breakfast at the head of the table. Her grin was better than any food, but the bacon and eggs looked delicious, and Atlesia had been learning how to cook from Mike’s mother, so I knew that everything would be out of this world. Even though she was a vegetarian and wasn’t going to be eating the breakfast, she still cooked it with love.
My attention shifted to the dining room windows and the partially opened curtains as I sat at the head of the table. Charles was on the front porch in the old swing that the ancient crones that used to live there had sat on every morning. His cup of coffee still steamed like it was just brewed, but it was the glare that he shot across the street that made my skin crawl.
The Ken doll didn’t seem interested in maintaining his friendly persona anymore, especially not now that I knew something was up. It wasn’t the smartest move since they couldn’t be sure that I’d figured them out, but the inventor might just say he’d had a bad night if anyone asked. If the argument with Stacy had made it across the street, then it might even be believable.
“He’s been sitting there for a few minutes,” Atlesia said as she sat down. “And his wife was out there this morning. She was putting sheets over the rose bushes out front, but there’s no way that woman knows how to garden.”
“No,” I said with a shake of my head. “I think that she’s more interested in experiments. And I don’t want to find out what she has planned for us, so don’t go out there unless it’s absolutely necessary, okay? And never without your glamour. They may know what you are, but the rest of the neighbors don’t.”
“No problem,” my girlfriend said and then stuffed a strawberry in her mouth. “I’m planning to visit my family after breakfast. I figured that you’d be going back to the school to research the--”
The phone interrupted her sentence, and I glanced over to the kitchen where the old yellow handheld hung on the wall. My grandmother hadn’t upgraded it since the seventies and didn’t even have caller ID, but there were only a few people that could be calling anyway, so I ambled over and grabbed the receiver.
“Hello?” I asked as I pressed it to my ear.
“Mr. Hall,” Nurse Polinski’s voice came through the line. “I just wanted to call and let you know that your grandmother is officially in the new nursing home. All of her things have been moved, and Deloris has a lovely room that overlooks the waterfalls and gardens at the edge of the city. I believe one of your friends is going to help her. I didn’t realize that you knew anyone from the Kaylen family.”
“Sarya helped?” I asked and glanced over at Atlesia.
“Yes,” the older woman said. “I think your grandmother is going to like her.”
“I’m sure she will,” I chuckled and shook my head. “Thanks for all of your help. You’ve been amazing.”
“I’m just glad that she can finally get better,” she said and then hung up.
The nurse had been at the second nursing home that I’d moved my grandmother to, but she was actually a fairy in a glamour like the one that Atlesia had worn. It was only by her advice, and some string pulling, that had helped me to get grandma into the elven nursing home.
“Okay,” I said and pulled the teleportation amulet out of my pocket. “Grandma is officially settled, and Sarya is there helping. I’m going to use the amulet to talk to them so that grandma actually trusts her.”
“Good luck,” Atlesia said and stuffed another strawberry in her mouth. “You know the communications ability doesn’t work very well.”
“I know,” I shrugged and held the stone up, thought of the redheaded elf, and then activated the spell. “Sarya? Sarya, are you there?”
“Andrew!” my grandmother’s voice came through the amulet instead of the elf’s. “It’s so good to hear from you. I wasn’t sure that this young woman was telling the truth. Of course, you could be a hallucination. Tell me something that no one else would know.”
I stared at the moonstone and then sighed from the depths of my soul. The old woman was just as paranoid as ever, though hopefully, the treatment would help to bring her a little bit of peace. I thought back to my childhood and then to the coded journals that we’d found in the attic. Maybe the paranoia was more ingrained than I’d ever realized.
“Okay,” I said and ran a hand through my hair. “Let’s see here… you think that raisins are delicious and that cinnamon raisin cookies are the best thing on the planet. Which is suspect, at the very least. And your life started the day that you met grandpa. Which is also not true. And you need to answer my questions-- ”
“Oh, Andrew,” grandma said in a wispy tone.
It was the same voice that she used every time that she didn’t want to answer any more of my questions. I rolled my eyes and grabbed a piece of bacon from the table. At least she realized that it was me, but the old woman was officially done with me, at least for the moment.
“Hey, Andrew,” Sarya’s voice came through the line. “Deloris is gone. She’s starting to go through her clothes and put them away. She’s been so sweet. A little paranoid. And I’ve already had a full lecture about the Kaylen family and how my father is not to be trusted. Can’t say that I blame her for some of the things she’s said, but it does make me think that one of the mystery men in the journal is my father. I’ll have to go over everything again tonight.”
“Bring it to campus,” I said. “I’m going back today to do some research. Atlesia is going to visit her family, and Mike is still at his family’s nursery, but Ira should be on campus. We can all have dinner.”
“I could use the break from my family,” the redheaded elf sighed, and I could almost feel her roll her eyes. “My brother has been asking about our relationship. I told him it’s none of his business, but you know how he is. And my mother is talking about all the eligible young elves on campus that I should consider instead.”
Atlesia made a face that said what she thought of the other elves at school. The snobby supernatural creatures were known for looking down on the nymphs, and I’d had to deal with a lot of shit before I’d climbed the ranks. Neither of us had liked Sarya when we first met, but she wasn’t like the other elves at the school, and the fiercely independent elementalist had even helped me out with the illegal underground arena.
“Just tell them that you’ve fallen in love with the most powerful human summoner in a thousand years,” my nymph girlfriend said.
“I’m good, but that might be a stretch,” I laughed. “Give me until the end of college for that particular distinction.”
I leaned over and gave my girlfriend a kiss on the cheek while Sarya let out a rare laugh.
“I agree with Andrew,” the elf said. “He’s making headway, but there’s still a long way to go before I’ll claim that he’s my mate. I expect nothing less than bringing down the shadow creatures and the headmaster if he wants me to acknowledge him as my mate.”
“Yes, ma’am,” I said and then glared at the amulet as static started to come through the stone. “It looks like this is done. I’ll see you tonight for dinner.”
The moonstone went dormant as the signal gave out, and I stuffed it back into my pocket. If we could learn more from the technomages, then we might be able to enhance the cellphone-like ability of the transportation stone. It was the one thing about the magical world that could use a lot of improvement, though at least the messages that were passed through the stone like text messages were more reliable.
“Coffee is getting cold,” Atlesia said and handed me the warm mug.
“Just like Charles’ did,” I said with a glance through the window.
My neighbor had gone inside, and there was no sign of the Stepford wife. The two inventors were probably in their basement with the cages that Stacy wanted to put us in. An alarm hadn’t gone off in the night, so I didn’t think that they’d realized we were in there, but the next recon mission would have to be a little more well-planned, just in case.
