Last time, we left Jake on an adventure with Sandy, straight to the moon — just like the current AI stock bubble, which is only growing due to rampant vendor financing and ever-inflating promises.
But I digress. On the way to the moon, Jake spent time chilling inside of Sandy, who’d kindly gone as far as to set up an alchemy lab for Jake to do a bit of crafting on the way. Preoccupied with alchemy and with Sandy’s ability to traverse the cosmos quickly, it didn’t take long before the pair arrived on the moon, ready to explore.
After exploring around a bit, having found nothing more than a few elementals, the two finally decided to check out the far side of the moon. No, not the dark side of the moon. Contrary to common belief, the side of the moon we never see on Earth is actually brighter than the side we see, as it receives far more sunlight. We only call it the dark side because we can’t directly observe it, thus “leaving us in the dark” about what’s there. In conclusion, the dark side of the moon is nothing more than an awesome album by Pink Floyd.
Getting to the far side of the moon, Jake and Sandy quickly realized that the moon did indeed have something more interesting to offer. The mana density there was higher, and within long, they discovered an entire forest of weird trees. Exploring the forest, they soon encountered odd Lunewood creatures that didn’t quite feel right, making them both wonder what was going on.
Once the two of them had had some fun walking and wiggling on the moon for the first time, Jake started hunting while learning that the forest was seemingly caused by something called a Wood Meteor – a giant ball of life energy and wood that could apparently give birth to an entire forest. Meanwhile, Sandy decided they wanted to explore the moon’s interior.
Jake happily hunted away and gained a bit of experience, while Sandy delved deeper and deeper into the celestial object until they finally approached the center. There, Sandy discovered the cruel truth about the moon:
It was haunted.
And not just a small haunting either, but haunted by a B-grade creature known as a Ghostvine Sovereign. Sandy tried to run while warning Jake to get away from the moon, and while Jake relatively easily escaped due to the warning, Sandy wasn’t as lucky… and died.
Fortunately, Sandy was Sandy, and the item that was totally not an egg they’d given Jake a few books ago, shockingly turned out to be an egg that the space worm could revive from if slain. Through that, Jake gets his worm buddy back, and together they decide that perhaps this trip to the moon had best be cut short, as taking on a B-grade was still a bit too early.
So, also just like the current AI stock bubble, this trip to the moon didn’t end well for anyone involved, and could have gone way worse if Jake and Sandy hadn’t pulled out when things got too hairy.
In the rest of the multiverse, Yip of Yore continues his preparations to take on the Viper by confronting another Primordial, the Starseizing Titan, and through that confrontation creates the legend of having a sword that can cut even the most durable Primordial.
Back with Jake, he finally returned to Earth after dragging Sandy through space for most of the way, as the recently deceased worm wasn’t quite ready to make the entire trip themselves. After he had sent Sandy off to the Order of the Malefic Viper to recuperate, Jake visited Arnold to get a newly upgraded Nanoblade Katar before he headed off to enjoy some alchemy, before he was forced into something he truly dreaded:
A meeting.
Lots of talking that isn’t super important to this recap later (just stuff about Prima Guardian preparation and whatnot). Jake and others began c onstruction of the special Minaga dungeon on Earth, possibly made possible by the Challenge Dungeon rewards in Nevermore.
Afterwards, several other minor events occurred, including Jake renewing his Union Oath with Sylphie, discussing personal insecurities with Vesperia, and having Vesperia showcase her power. Pretty much all the usual build-up before the big Prima Guardian system event was set to begin.
The only thing left was a hastily convened World Congress, called by Miranda, where all the factions met to discuss plans for dealing with the Prima Guardian. After that, Jake went and did some final preparations, like fetching his now-upgraded katar from William and having a talk with William, who had been scouting Ell’Hakan’s planet and realized the place was seriously fucked up in the karma department. Something that piques Jake’s curiosity, and luckily for him, he may soon have the chance to learn more in this book.
Anyhow, soon it was time for the Prima Guardian to arrive. Riding in like a meteorite, Prima Vessels crash down on populated planets all throughout the newly integrated 93rd Universe. In the Milky Way, a large coalition of planets that decided to work together to handle the event (a decision that was made in a prior book where factions could choose to face the Prima Guardian alone or as a coalition) formed an alliance with Ell’Hakan at its center.
Meanwhile, Earth had Jake and all the other natives from there… so it was no surprise to anyone who had the advantage in the competition for who would finish off their Prima Guardian first.
Despite technically having a thousand days until the Prima Guardian would be automatically released, and knowing full well that it would result in a harder fight, Jake immediately rushed into the Prima Vessel to reveal the boss.
On the outside, all the regular Primas, who one was meant to kill in order to weaken the Prima Guardian, were all being handled by the combined forces of Earth. Casper and the Risen, Jacob and the Holy Church, Vesperia and her un-bee-lievable insect army, Arnold and his robot stuff, Caleb and the Court of Shadows, Carmen and Valhal, the Fallen King, Sylphie, Eron, Sword Saint, and so many others waited and kept the Primas in check as Jake activated the actual boss of the event.
After releasing a severely beefed-up Prima Guardian, six chapters of fighting happened, and then it died. Yay.
With the kill, Earth became the first planet to kill its Prima Guardian, which also netted them better rewards. Sadly, most of these rewards will only fully be revealed once the Prima Guardian event fully concludes here in book 14, so look forward to that!
Anyhow, having killed their Prima Guardian, Earth became able to use their Prima Vessel to teleport to other planets that had set up special teleportation circles as part of the galactic alliance that planned on facing the Prima Guardian together. With permission only, though. Oh, and this wouldn’t allow them to teleport to planets not part of the alliance, making it harder to assist them and ensure that not only would Earth be the first planet to finish the event, but the Milky Way would be the first galaxy.
Luckily for Jake, Sandy, and Arnold, they quickly got on the case to find a way to teleport people to planets across the galaxy, using the Prima Vessels as catalysts.
Another reward gained from slaying the Prima Guardian was the ability to finally claim the Planetary Pylon, and upon doing so, Jake finally claimed the planet fully.
After doing so, Jake also confirmed that Earth had indeed been the first planet to kill its Prima Guardian, making Jake the rank 1 Administrator Candidate for the Seat of the Exalted Prima (the future system event that will be explored in later books). Second place was, as expected, Ell’Hakan, but rank 3 turned out to be an entity only known as “I.”
Very spooky.
With everything on Earth handled, the next frontier was all the other planets in the galaxy that also had their own Prima Guardians to kill. Ones that were far weaker than what Earth had killed, making it a rather trivial task for any of the truly powerful people on Earth to do it alone.
Which was exactly what they started doing. All the powerhouses of Earth began traveling all over the galaxy, helping out by slaying Primas and Prima Guardians all around the place.
A move that turned out to be accidentally brilliant, as it started undermining the alliance formed by Ell’Hakan. While the Chosen of Yip of Yore most certainly also killed a lot of Prima Guardians, and his alliance with the Holy Church remained strong, Jake slowly started getting more support through his actions as the World Leader of Earth.
The action in the Milky Way was tracked on a map within the Prima Vessel, showing all the planets experiencing the Prima Guardian event, each with a different colored flag. Green for having completed the event, blue for those fighting with the alliance, red for those without, but soon another color appeared: gray. The color for those who had fallen in the Prima invasion.
It was inevitable, but alas, all Jake and company could do was move on, and Jake’s next target was one of the most populated planets in the galaxy that also hadn’t allied with Ell’Hakan.
In this world, Jake discovered an odd religion that worshipped a god known as the Great Bright One and eventually encountered its religious leader, the Voice of the One. A somewhat cowardly elf who was initially afraid Jake had been sent by Ell’Hakan, but upon realizing who he truly was, the two reached an agreement, and they went and killed the Prima Guardian. Jake learned more about this elf, including that his name was Kindroth, and the guy expressed interest in meeting Miranda for a political talk.
As Jake and others from Earth are going around doing their thing, other factions and Ell’Hakan also rapidly expand their influence as more and more planets kill their Prima Guardians. Time passed this way until, suddenly, a change in the map of the planets caught everyone’s attention.
A planet that had formerly been marked as green suddenly turned into an entirely new color: black. A color that meant something had happened that Jake didn’t even know was possible for people at their level of power… the world core had been destroyed, dooming the planet.
Needless to say, this was quite the happening, but sadly, no one had any way to find out what the hell had happened. Not yet anyway.
With nothing else to do, Jake continued killing Prima Guardians across the galaxy until he arrived on a planet where followers of Ell’Hakan were already well-established. However, rather than engage him directly, they instead sought to record his battle with the Prima Guardian for some purpose Jake didn’t know.
Not intending to let them take advantage of him, Jake instead decided to use it as an opportunity. He put on a show, where rather than using his normal means of fighting, he stuck fully to using Fangs of Man while avoiding poisons, fighting more like a warrior from Valhal rather than a follower of the Malefic Viper. He even went as far as to yell out the name of Fangs of Man to really hammer home what he was doing.
All of this was part of the big brain meta play thought up by the Viper, where Jake would act as if he was dissatisfied with the Viper and looking to greener pastures. Not only did this make the Malefic Viper look weaker, as even his own Chosen was looking to betray him, but it even gave Ell’Hakan grounds to believe that perhaps the conflict between the two Chosen didn’t have to end in a battle to the death. That, rather than fighting, Jake could simply abandon the Malefic Viper and join a faction like Valhal, thus removing all grounds for conflict in Yip of Yore’s Chosen’s mind.
Of course, from Jake’s point of view, there was no fucking way it was going to end in any way that didn’t include a dead Ell’Hakan. Not after he killed Chris, the monument builder who initially helped Jake teleport to the Order and back to Earth again.
Jake’s little show ended up being super effective, as it even made its way back to Yip of Yore himself, who only had Eversmile reinforce the idea that Jake already had close ties to Valdemar’s Legacy, seeing as he had the skill Fangs of Man. Perhaps Jake’s actions could even be viewed as being a bit heretical, and if Yip could prove that the Viper’s Chosen had turned heretic, it would look quite bad for the poor snake god.
Back to Jake and the Milky Way, the Prima Guardians just kept getting killed as the war of influence between Ell’Hakan and Earth’s alliance intensified. Meanwhile, the “I” character continued making trouble, somehow destroying several planets.
Fortunately, Arnold soon found success and invited Jake to beta test a teleporter that should be capable of getting Jake to any planets in the galaxy with a Prima Vessel, even the red flag planets that hadn’t joined the alliance… or the black flag planets that had been destroyed, as their Prima Vessels were seemingly still intact.
