The ceremony went without a hitch, although Jackson couldn’t understand why I kept stealing glances between Mitchel and Jen as they glared at each other.

When it was over, we all went out for a meal. Mitchel had hired a private banquet room where the wine flowed for the guests and my new husband made no attempt to hide the fact that he wanted me all to himself. I think if we hadn’t been hiding a particular little secret that ensured I was to be adequately fed and hydrated, he wouldn’t have let us stay as long as we did.

Finally, his patience wore out and he leant across to whisper, ‘‘we’re leaving, your mine now!’’ His tone sent little fissures of excitement throughout my body and I smiled back at him confirming I wanted to leave as much as he did. My pregnancy hormones had made my appetite for Jackson sky rocket, but he gallantly assured me he would always be ready and willing to ‘take one for the team!’

We worked our way around our guests before Mitchel walked us to the door. ‘‘So I’ll see you guys back in L.A in a few weeks,’’ Jackson tried to shake his hand but Mitchel pulled him in for a bro hug clapping him on the back.

After a short stay in Vegas, Jackson had arranged to take me to Hawaii for our honeymoon, a place I had only ever dreamed of visiting. After that, we were moving back to L.A to get settled into the beach house in Santa Monica, before heading to the UK to finalise the sale of my old house and tie up a few loose ends. I had already made a date to catch up with my friends who, far from upset at losing me, were already planning endless vacations in the golden state, then again, they still didn’t know about the little bundle I was carrying.

‘‘Oh, can you return this to Elena before we go honey,’’ I unclasped the bracelet she had leant me handing it to Jackson.

‘‘Sure,’’ he smiled at me adoringly, before giving me a chaste kiss and wandering off, leaving Mitchel and I alone, but not before he warned Mitchel. ‘‘Don’t let her out of your sight.’’

‘‘How do you put up with him?’’ Mitchel rolled his eyes.

I grabbed hold of Mitchel by the lapels of his jacket, ‘‘I haven’t forgotten my promise you know.’’

  ‘‘What promise?’’

‘‘You know what promise,’’ I grinned at him. ‘‘I’m going to find you a strong, independent woman that brings you to your knees.’’

‘‘Good luck with that,’’ Mitchel kissed me on the forehead. ‘‘I’m quite happy living the dream and I’ve even got a kid on the way to spoil.’’

‘‘Shh,’’ I reprimanded, ‘‘no-one else knows yet remember. What are you going to do with yourself while we are away?’’

‘‘Swat up ready for the birth.’’

‘‘You are not coming in while I’m giving birth.’’ I argued.

‘‘We’ll see!’’ Mitchel smirked before taking something out of his pocket and pressing it into my hand.

“What’s this?” I asked, looking down to see what he had given me.

“Your wedding present. Sorry it took a while, I was waiting to see how things panned out so I could get it delivered to the right place.”

“A car?” I squealed looking at the prancing horse emblem on the fob. “You bought me a car?”

“Well, I couldn’t have my nephew riding around in that other thing you used to own, it wouldn’t have been any good for his street cred. It’ll be in L.A ready for when you get there. Don’t let Jack know I bought it for you, when I told him what I was thinking of getting you, he went postal and said not to bother, you wouldn’t be driving alone in anything other than an armoured tank.

‘‘Thankyou!’’ I cried pulling Mitchel in for a hug. “Where shall I say it come from?”

“Just tell him you had one of your episodes and stole it!”

My eyes cut to Jen who happened to look up at the same time and raise an eyebrow at me inquisitively. ‘‘I’m definitely going to find you a girlfriend and you know, I think I have the perfect candidate in mind.’’

‘‘You have got to be kidding me,’’ Mitchel scoffed as he glanced over to where I was looking, ‘‘I’d rather put pins in my eyes, besides she has a boyfriend.’’

‘‘I’m not sure she does, it’s true he wants her back but he doesn’t deserve her. He isn’t here at the wedding because she told him she needed some space to figure out if she wanted to give him yet another chance!’’

‘‘Really.’’ Mitchel drew out the word. ‘‘Interesting, that makes things easier.’’

  ‘‘What do you mean?’’

‘‘She waged a war last night. One I’m going to win! It’ll be easier with only two players in the game.’’

Jackson returned and grabbed my hand, ‘‘you ready?’’ He asked me.

‘‘Yeah, I love a challenge.’’ Mitchel laughed at Jackson’s confused expression, before kissing me on the cheek and sauntering back to join Elena and the rest of our guests.

‘‘What were you guys talking about?’’ Jackson asked as he dragged me out of the room and off to have his wicked way with me.

‘‘How I’m going to make sure Mitch gets the girl this time around,’’ I answered confidently, ‘‘But’s that’s a story for another day!’’
