part #2 of Looting the 13th Floor Series
My heart felt so full hearing the girls move in their sleep in my room, and I pulled out my phone to get them some breakfast. There wasn’t much in my cupboards since my attention had been focused on looting another dimension lately. I ordered us some coffees and pastries before I headed into the shower to properly wake myself up.
The hot steam filled the air as I brushed my teeth, and I stepped under the slightly pathetic flow of water. Crappy shower pressure didn’t bother me now, though. I grinned as I pictured the bathrooms I had seen online in the penthouses. Those huge showerheads that made it feel like a fucking rainstorm was coming down on you. Yeah, that was what life was going to be like from now on.
I scrubbed myself clean before I stepped out and grabbed a towel. There was a knock at the front door as I headed back out to the living room, and I checked the peephole to see the delivery boy. I didn’t know why I felt the need to look, but I couldn’t be too careful when I was hiding two Hollowfell women and a shitload of guns in here.
“Hey,” I said as I opened the door. “Thanks, man.”
“No problem,” the guy said with a weak smile as he handed me the bag.
He looked about the same age as me, and I knew this job had to be kind of shitty.
“Hang on,” I said. “I’ll be right back.”
He raised an eyebrow as I put the bag down and grabbed my leather jacket. I had taken cash out the night before, but I had ended up just using the credit card for everything.
“Here,” I said as I grabbed a rolled-up hundred-dollar bill. “Have a good day.”
I pressed the money into the guy’s hand, and his eyes bulged as he unrolled it.
“Dude,” he said. “What the fuck?”
“Buy something fun.” I shrugged. “See ya.”
I closed the door as the delivery guy stood staring at his hand, and he suddenly cheered before I heard footsteps running downstairs. It wasn’t a life-changing amount of money, but I hoped it had made a crappy work day better for the guy.
I sure as hell understood the grind.
A few moments later, I heard the shuffle of feet as the bedroom door swung open, and the girls came out in my oversized shirts. They both looked adorable as they rubbed their eyes and trailed over to the sofa.
“Good morning,” I said. “I ordered breakfast.”
“Oooh!” Cleo purred happily. “Thank you, Liam! This is a nice look for you.”
Her eyes glinted as she looked at me, and I remembered I was still just wearing a towel around my waist.
“I’ll pull some clothes on,” I said with a grin. “But help yourself to the food. I got you both syrup in your coffees so they’re not as bitter.”
“Syrup,” Kali said, and she made the ‘P’ pop on her pink lips. “That sounds delicious!”
I grabbed my regular iced coffee from the bag and passed the others to the girls. Cleo ran her hand over my stomach as I got closer, and I leaned down to give her a kiss. Her full lips felt heavenly against mine as I stroked her silky hair. Then she giggled as I rubbed her fluffy ears, and I headed into the bedroom to get dressed.
I took a sip of my coffee before I pulled on some jeans and a shirt, and I checked my phone to make sure we were good for time.
This weekend was going to be the best time of my life. My first expensive dinner followed by hunting for the apartment of my dreams. Not to mention the fact my company would be the two most gorgeous women to ever walk the Earth.
Every day I had spent working for Roberts suddenly didn’t seem as depressing. My life had completely transformed.
I came back out to find the girls happily munching on their pastries, and Kali offered one out to me.
“Thanks,” I said as I sat between them and bit into the sugary treat.
Even this small delivery was more than I would have ever spent on breakfast before. But I didn’t even have to think about it anymore. Knowing I could afford any little treat we wanted was still mind-blowing.
“Apartment day,” Cleo said and licked crumbs from her fingers. “We will see how the fanciest types of humans live.”
“I still like this house,” Kali said as she sipped her iced coffee. “But I am excited to see what things Liam can buy now.”
“Me, too,” I said. “It hasn’t really sunk in yet that we’re going to view penthouses. I could have a balcony!”
“Balcony,” Cleo muttered. “What is this?”
“It’s a platform attached to your apartment,” I said. “You can sit outside, but you’re technically inside.”
“Inside outside,” the cat-girl said curiously. “Magic?”
“Not really,” I said. “Just money.”
We finished up our food, and I went to order another cab to get us to the apartment viewing. It was wild that I had taken so many expensive rides in this week alone. Another thing I was going to have to get used to.
“You should get dressed,” I said as I put a hand on Cleo’s bare knee. “As much as I want you both to stay this cute, you should probably put on some of those new outfits you bought.”
“Yay!” Kali clapped as she jumped to her feet. “We get to wear more of the beautiful things Liam bought for us. You’ve done so much for me.”
Her blue eyes started to well with tears as she sniffed, and I got to my feet to take her into my arms.
“Hey,” I said as she buried her face in my chest. “You deserve this, okay? This is the kind of life you should have, and I’m just so happy I can give it to you.”
The nymph nodded as I stroked her pink curls, and she pulled away with a dazzling smile.
“Time to get dressed,” Cleo purred as she got up. “Let’s put our new clothes on!”
The cat-girl took the nymph’s hand as they walked into the bedroom with their shopping bags clutched tightly. I heard them rummaging around as I checked to see how long we had until the cab arrived. It was still ten minutes away, and I saw a message pop up from my Uncle Spencer right before I could put my phone down.
Hey Liam, hope those gifts are working out for ya!
I thought about gargoyle bodies splattered with bullet holes, and I grinned as I remembered how much the guns had helped on our latest mission. But it still seemed like a good idea to get the girls some shooting practice. Spencer had a huge stretch of land in Vegas, and I hoped he might be willing to let us come over.
They are awesome! Any chance I can bring a couple of friends over to practice with it all? They’re both girls who are totally cool with keeping things hush-hush.
“Ready!” Cleo called as the bedroom door swung open.
The cat-girl had gone for a much simpler, but still gorgeous outfit. Her figure was slightly more concealed in a black dress with a lace top, and she had her leather boots done up tightly. She looked incredible as she flicked her dark hair over her toned shoulders.
Kali looked just as good, and she had picked out a pink crop top with a little skirt to match. Her wings had already been disguised, but she kept her pink curls to go with the outfit. The nymph looked like the ultimate California babe who was ready for a stroll along the beach.
“Gorgeous,” I said with a lopsided grin. “You are both so beautiful.”
Cleo purred as her tail flicked, and Kali blushed with happiness. Then my phone buzzed to let me know our ride was outside, and I picked up my jacket as we headed for the door.
“Let’s go get an apartment,” I said as I grabbed Cleo’s waist. “Somewhere fit for my two queens.”
“Queens,” Kali giggled as we stepped into the stairwell. “I’ve never been called that before!”
“Get used to it.” I grinned. “All of our lives are just going to get better and better.”
We hurried down the stairs, and the stench of piss didn’t even faze me. It would soon just be a distant memory.
I helped the girls into the cab, and we set off to view our first place. The street wasn’t too far from my apartment, but it was practically a whole different world. We turned away from the gritty grayness of my street as the buildings became taller and cleaner.
Then the cab took us down a road that was lined with well-kept trees, and there wasn’t a single piece of trash to be seen. He parked outside a building that stretched up into the sky, and it was made of bright white walls and huge windows. Every apartment had a balcony that was decorated with potted plants and expensive-looking chairs.
“Here you go,” the driver grunted.
“Thanks,” I said as we climbed out of the cab, and I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the building.
“It’s so pretty!” Kali gasped as we stared up at it. “It goes so high! Like a castle!”
“I see the outside insides,” Cleo said as she pointed to a balcony. “Can we have one of those? An outside inside?”
“Damn right, we can,” I said and left a kiss on her cheek. “If we like it, then it’s ours.”
There was a lobby beyond the main glass doors, and a red-haired woman in a skirt suit hurried out of the elevator. She strode over the glistening floor and pushed open the entrance with a smile.
“Hello,” she called. “Are you Liam?”
“That’s me.” I nodded as we went over to meet her. “This is Cleo and Kali. They’ll be living with me, too.”
“Lovely,” the woman said. “I’m Lidia, and I have some dreamy places for you young things to look at! Right this way!”
She ushered us inside, and the whole lobby smelled of fresh potpourri. There were leather armchairs in the waiting area along with a vending machine that sold organic sodas. It took a moment to remind myself that I belonged here. I could afford this shit now.
Lidia took us over to the elevator as she glanced into her files, and she pressed the seventh button when we got in.
“You’re going to be obsessed with this spot,” she assured me. “The view is insane. But I’ve also got a few more in the area that I can show you if you’re interested?”
“Sounds good.” I nodded. “We’ve got all day.”
The elevator doors pinged open, and we stepped out into a brightly-lit hallway. It was immaculate as Lidia led us to one of the white doors, and she unlocked it before she stepped to the side.
I felt a weird wave of nerves as I walked into the apartment, but that was quickly replaced by pure awe. There was so much daylight that spilled in from the huge windows that it filled the living room up with gold.
“Kitchen just to the side,” Lidia said. “Bedroom on the right, and bathroom just beside it.”
Cleo and Kali’s mouths hung open as they slowly walked around the space. The living room was big enough to fit my entire apartment inside with a bit of room to spare.
“Let’s check it out.” I grinned as the initial shock wore off.
Kali hurried through to the kitchen, and I followed her to see a glistening room full of white cabinets and sparkling countertops.
“Wow,” the nymph breathed. “This would be very good for learning about cooking!”
“Sure would,” I whistled. “What do you think, Cleo?”
“It is so huge,” the cat-girl said as she slid her hand into mine. “I had no idea human houses could look this way.”
“Let’s check out that bedroom,” I said, and we hurried over to the next room.
It was just as insane as I’d expected, and there was so much room that I didn’t even know what I would do with it. There was a king-sized bed in the middle, too, which was fitted with blue sheets, and Cleo leapt onto the mattress with a cry of excitement.
“Comfy?” I snorted, and she reached up to grab my hand.
“Come and see,” she purred as she pulled me down with her.
I groaned as my back hit the firm mattress, and I spread my limbs out like a starfish. There was so much room for fun with my cat-girl, but then Kali perched on the edge of the sheets and wiggled her ass to get comfy.
The temptation to pull her in close with us was overwhelming, but I made do with admiring her. She looked like a pink pixie on a cloud.
“It is sooo nice!” Kali sighed as she glanced over at us. “There’s definitely room for us all to fit in this one!”
The nymph hummed happily as she ran her hands over the silk pillowcases, and my eyebrows shot up. It certainly looked like she was happy to join me in bed, and that got my mind racing.
Cleo giggled as if she could read my thoughts as she swung her long legs off the sheets. Then we went in to see the bathroom, and I was blown away by the shower. It was fucking huge with a head that could soak all three of us together.
“Focus, Liam,” I quietly scolded myself.
“I have decided I like fancy houses,” Cleo said. “We should get one!”
“Good call,” I chuckled. “Shall we check out the outside inside?”
“Yes!” Cleo cried. “I want to see the magic!”
Lidia looked amused with the cat-girl’s enthusiasm as she watched us hurry to the balcony, but she hung back to give us space to explore. I slid the glass door open before we stepped out onto the wide ledge.
It had a stone floor with a small table and chairs. Blue flowers had just started to bloom in some flowerpots that hung from the railings, and I was greeted with the most beautiful view of Cabrillo Beach in the distance. The far-off waves rolled against the sands as the warm wind ruffled my hair.
I took a deep breath as I stared out at the world.
“This is really happening,” I muttered. “I can move somewhere like this.”
Cleo nuzzled into my arm as we stared out at the sea, and Kali sniffed the flowers happily.
“Would you like to see some more?” Lidia called. “Or has this one won you over?”
“Let’s see some more,” I said as I came back into the apartment. “We might as well view what else is on offer.”
“Excellent.” Lidia flashed me a pearly-white smile. “I’ve got five more on a similar budget, but the last one might be a little higher rent.”
“That’s okay.” I shrugged. “As long as it’s in the same basic ballpark, then we’re good.”
Lidia smiled as she showed us back out of the huge living room, and we followed her back to the elevator.
“This is going to be an awesome day.” I grinned. “Let’s see what that Hollowfell money can do.”
The agent led us to her own car that was parked outside, and we began our journey around to the nicest penthouses the area had to offer. Lidia spent the afternoon taking us to places I’d never imagined setting foot in. Each apartment had its own upsides, and every one of them were a whole different league compared to my current place.
Cleo and Kali gradually got used to the features we were shown, and they were disappointed when we finally viewed an apartment without a balcony.
“Hmm,” the cat-girl sniffed as she stared out of the living room window. “No outside inside? I am not sure we like this one so much.”
She waved her hand dismissively, and Lidia nodded as she scribbled something down on her notepad.
“Of course,” the agent said. “The lady likes a balcony. I completely understand. Balconies are, like, a must-have for that evening cocktail.”
“Yes,” Cleo said slowly. “A must have. Evening cocktail.”
“There’s one place left,” Lidia said as she checked her folder. “It’s the one that’s a little pricier than the others, but I have a feeling it might blow you away.”
She led us back to her car, and the monster girls climbed in happily. I was on cloud nine as Lidia drove us to the final apartment. The street she turned down was wide and pristine, and there was a doorman at the entrance of every building.
“They have guards!” Cleo hissed. “Will we get past them?”
“Of course,” I said under my breath. “They are there to protect the people who live inside. So they would work for us if we moved in.”
The cat-girl’s golden eyes widened as we pulled up, and the doorman hurried down toward the car.
He opened the door to let the girls out as I climbed out the other side. The man was middle-aged and wore a blue suit with a white shirt. He had a perfectly trimmed beard, and his smile was warm and genuine.
“Good afternoon,” he said cheerily. “Lidia, lovely to see you.”
“Harry,” the agent said. “Beautiful day, isn’t it? These lovely young people are interested in number nineteen.”
“Very good.” Harry nodded. “A delightful apartment. Good location for the pool.”
“Pool?” I asked as we walked toward the main doors. “There’s a pool?”
“Yes, sir.” Harry nodded. “Of course, there is.”
He opened the door promptly and let us into the lobby area. It was ten times bigger than all the others, and there was a reception desk with a pretty girl sitting behind it. Her brown curls were tucked into a bun, and she smiled at us as we approached.
“Good afternoon,” she chirped. “Lidia, go on up!”
The agent led us to the elevator at the back, and we stepped inside to make our way upstairs. She hit the third button before we shot up to our next viewing.
“Here we go.” Lidia smiled as the doors slid open. “Prepare to have your minds blown.”
The hallway we stepped out into was dripping with luxury. Oil paintings hung on the pristine walls, and the corridor led down to a glass door with light spilling in.
“That’s the pool down there,” Lidia said. “Only for residents of the building of course, and it’s absolutely huge. Great for sunbathing.”
I imagined a day in the sun with the girls relaxing in bikinis, and I almost signed up for the rent on the spot. But first I followed Lidia through the door of number nineteen as the monster girls gasped.
It had a much darker interior than the others we had seen, but the wall of windows at the back gave it plenty of sunlight. The paint was a deep green that gave it character, and the black sofa looked insanely comfortable and matched my cat-girl lover to a tee.
But my eyes were immediately drawn to the balcony. I walked over to the sliding door to find that the outside space was twice the size of the others we had seen so far. It had a swinging sofa beside a table, and I felt a rush of excitement as I stepped outside. Cleo and Kali slipped out beside me as I drank in the incredible view. We could see the beach even clearer from here, and the air was somehow twice as fresh.
