He could not tell if his theory was working out because the impact of what he was absorbing in his body seemed to have closed out any connection or forces from the outside world. Since the room was empty, he couldn't tell if this trance was impacting his brothers, but somewhere in the recesses of his mind, he could hear them. In some way, he was still touching them wherever they were. He had picked this time of morning because he knew for a fact that they were all in their individual homes. Was it possible that he could reach them even though they were not here in the room with him. It was possible when he was in distress, that he knew for a fact. When he and his brother Ross were in trouble in Roanoke last month, he reached out to his other brothers with his mind. They were able to locate them and help them escape. But that was not the case at this moment. Right now, there was not enough brain power for him to think it through because so much information was being absorbed. It seemed as if the information was being shoved down throughout his brain, finding any space possible for it to reside.

Now that his mind was clearing, he could hear whispers coming from somewhere. He simply listened as someone was speaking to him. The last two times he made this journey it had been his mother’s voice. This voice was different. It was older, wiser, more distinguished than before. It sounded determined to get its message through. Wade slowly opened his eyes. Through the haze he did not see anyone in the room, yet he could feel a presence around him. His vision strayed towards the window as he looked at the large maple trees. For some reason his eyes focused on the tree closest to the house as if drawn to it. A flock of birds flew down. They all landed on different branches of the tree. To him it seemed as though each bird represented a different region. That was odd, simply because birds tended to fly in flocks. Rarely was there only one. Yet, there they sat, perched on a branch watching him as if in anticipation. He couldn't understand why his mind was fixated on the birds but for whatever reason he could not pull away. To his amazement, another bird flew in. It looked as if all the others turned. All their attention turned from him to the single bird. That bird sat right in the middle of all of the birds, his eyes focused on him. Then it seemed as if the bird nodded in acknowledgement. The eyes on that bird captured his and it was the eyes of that bird that spoke to him.

Power is interchangeable. In the wrong hands it can, is, and will be used for evil. It is a part of life’s cycle for one group of people to want to reign over all others. The government of your world has opened the door. They have placed people in power whose sole intent is to rule the country based on their individual beliefs. However, this country was built on the acceptance of all men being created equal. Evil forces understand division is the way to conquer the people. You cannot allow this to happen.

With power comes responsibility. You must protect those who are weaker than yourself. By doing this you will empower them and raise an army to the magnitude the evil forces will not be able to defeat. Together is the only way to eliminate the forces of evil from your government. Know you are not alone in this quest. There are others who are in the learning stages, just as you are. However, you are the only one blessed with access to the gods of humanity. Just as I am among your ancestors, you are the conductor of all. You must guide them through the turbulent times coming your way. The magnitude of the responsibility upon your shoulders is going to seem overwhelming at times. Know this, you are a part of the universe. Your powers are connected to all five elements of nature… earth, water, fire, air, and space. There are more elements of the universe that will be at your disposal. Use them wisely when needed. The wisdom of your ancestors is with you at all times. They will be there when the need arises. Do not fear it. Accept it and you and those you love will prevail. Above all else, never let them know what you are thinking.

With that, most of the birds flew away, with the exception of one. He didn't know how he knew, but that was his Uncle Moon. He closed his eyes as the words spoken by the ancestor brought him an understanding, for he had heard them before. It was the words that his father had left with him the day he was incarcerated for life. And the last words that his father said to him on the day he died. There was a message in those words that was coming through, from… he hated to say it, or even think it, but the bird. The bird gave him the same message.

“The bird is a symbol of wisdom. The tree represents your roots. The root of the tree is your connection to your ancestors.”

Wade blinked at the sound of Rachel’s voice. He stared at the bird that looked as if it was smiling at him.

You are in good hands. But your butt is in trouble now. She got the hands on the hips and all. Uncle Moon snickered as he then flew away.

  Chapter 35

Wade’s attention turned to Rachel in the doorway. “What did you say?”

“I have no idea what just came out of my mouth. However, I want to know what in the hell do you think you are doing?” Rachel asked with hands on her hips and a look of concern in her eyes.

“I was listening to the birds,” Wade replied as he attempted to gain control of his body again.

“What type of bird?” Rachel asked.

  “Does it matter?” Wade asked.

  “Yes,” Rachel replied.

“It was a crow.” He hesitated for a moment. “Come to think of it, all of them were black crows.”

“A symbol of transformation,” Rachel smiled. “Did you know a crow is one of the most intelligent species of birds that exist. It is only right that they would be used to give you guidance and insight into your new situation or should I say reality.”

“I thought that was your purpose.”

“Oh no, darling,” Rachel chuckled. “My purpose is purely pleasure. My job is to keep you balanced as you journey through these turbulent waters you are treading. Speaking of which,” Rachel stood in an accusatory manner shaking her fingers. “Your brothers are all on their way. They know what you did.”

Wade, still not able to stand, closed his eyes. “I had to attempt it on my own. When we go after Chambers, I need to know what we can or cannot do. It was important to determine if the extra pull from my body to theirs was a hindrance or not.”

“Your brothers are never a hindrance. They are there to strengthen and protect you during your weakest moments.” Rachel put her hand up in the air. “Don’t ask. I don’t know where these words of wisdom are coming from, and I am not going to speculate. Let’s just say I’m growing wise in my old age.”

Wade chuckled. “A closer truth would be my mother is channeling through you.”

“Mmm hmm. I hope you asked your mother to channel some protection for your behind before Monty arrives.”

“It wasn’t my mother this time,” Wade stated, beginning to come around.

“You opened your mother’s journal, but it wasn’t your mother talking to you?”

  Wade shook his head. “No.”

“Who was it?” Rachel sat on the edge of the desk as he sat up in the chair.

“An older, wiser voice who said he is one of my ancestors.”

  “What did it say?”

“The same message I received from my mother before. I have to save mankind from itself.”

Rachel rubbed her hand over his arm. “That is a monumental task to put on your shoulders.”

“That’s what he said,” Wade exhaled.

“A task you are well equipped to handle.” Rachel leaned down to him. “You are on the third book of your mother’s journals. The information revealed in the first book was significant. It sent you to Roanoke where we uncovered what was happening there. Not to mention all the women and children you saved. The second journal clarified what was happening to you and why. Darling, we now know how your brothers came to be. With your help they will be able to find their siblings. Now this third one probably supplied you with some information that will become helpful.”

“It did. He said the elements of nature are at my fingertips to use when needed. As for helping my brothers find their siblings, I’m not sure how I feel about that.”

  “Why?”

“They find their blood siblings and they may not need me in their lives.”

“That again,” Rachel sighed. “Like I said before. Your brothers are one with you. You are not going to lose them, and they are definitely not going to leave you.” The doorbell rang. She stood up shaking her head, “I’ll get the door. While you sit there and think about the asinine statement you just made.”

The statement wasn’t as asinine as Rachel may have thought. Wade knew there was a strong possibility that before this journey was over, his brothers were going to discover the identity of each of their blood siblings. Hell, Dane had fifty by himself. The others all had at least thirty if they were all alive. Their bond of brotherhood through the foster care system would take a back seat to what they were about to encounter.

“All of their lives will be changed forever,” Wade said just as his brothers appeared in the doorway.

“What in the hell did you think you were doing?” Monty yelled.

“Well, maybe not everything is changing,” Wade chuckled to himself. “I'm fine. I had my reasons for testing it.”

“Are you okay?” Ross asked with concern from behind Monty. “Let me see you get up and walk over here.”

“That’s not going to happen,” Wade said as he sat up higher in his chair. “Look, we are about to go to war against Chambers. Do you remember what happened. We almost died. The only reason we did not is because these powers kicked in. I think it will be better to know what I am capable of before we step onto the war field—don’t you?”

“Is the left side of your brain talking to the right side?” Drake asked.

  Wade frowned in confusion. “What?”

“When the left brain is deprived of the emotions from the right side of your brain, you have an illogical stream of occurrences that makes it difficult for you to function in society. There is an imbalance in your way of thinking. The right brain thinking keeps us happy, while the left keeps us safe. We need a balance of both to survive.” Drake explained. “I need to know your left side is talking to the dumb-ass happy go lucky right side.”

“You’ve been researching the plausibility of the S.I.B.s experiment initiated by old man Chambers.” Wade surmised.

“It’s the only way we are going to understand how to help them,” Drake exhaled. “The question now is how in the hell are we going to keep you from trying to block us out."

“We are still brothers, no matter how many others come into our lives,” Dane stated.

“The siblings, no matter how many, are just that, siblings. We are brothers, through and through. That will never change.” Ross added.

“We leave you on your own for one night—one night and you do something stupid like this,” Monty huffed. “Is this why you insisted we go home last night. So, you could try inhaling those journals on your own?”

Rachel cleared her throat as she walked back into the library. “You have another visitor.”

“Hello gentlemen,” Sapphire greeted them. “I have news.”

  Chapter 36

“The discovery of the connection between the S.I.B.s and P.I.E. organizations, in conjunction with the situation with Nancy Armstrong has pushed up our timetable.”

“She has been on my mind. I am very concerned about her safety,” Monty stated.

“Yes, over the last twenty-four hours she has been on his mind a lot.” Drake stated. “I can still feel him thinking about her now.”

“That’s because she is in trouble,” Wade stated as he glanced at Sapphire. “Do you have a plan to get her away from Chambers?”

“We are working on that,” Sapphire nodded. “However, she is not the only one in trouble. May I?” she pointed to the sofa.

“Of course. My apology for the oversight,” Rachel proclaimed. “I know you guys are upset with Wade right now, but that is going to have to wait. Grab a seat, let’s hear what Sapphire has to say.”

“Yesterday while we were dealing with the Nancy Armstrong situation, there was an attempt by Rolfeman to take custody of the siblings. From what we now know, we can only surmise that he was fulfilling this request on Chambers' behalf. Therefore, we had to move them.” Sapphire explained.

  “What!" Drake exclaimed.

  “Where are they?" Dane asked.

“In a secure location.” Sapphire replied.

  “Secure from us?" Dane questioned.

“Look, there is a strong possibility that we are being watched,” Monty stated. “We don’t want to be responsible for leading Chambers or Rolfeman to them. We have to keep our distance from the siblings for now.”

“Now we could be wrong about our summation, however with everything that's coming together I don't believe that we are. I believe that Chambers wants the siblings back.” Sapphire looked around the room, “and I have to wonder if that includes the four of you.”

“Us?” Dane questioned. “He discarded us. He threw us on the corner like we were a piece of trash. Why would he want us back?”

“Because he's a psychopath who thinks that everything belongs to him. And he has a right to have everything or person that was created in his father's lab.” Wade added.

“These are people, human beings. The days of one person owning other people are supposed to be over.” Ross stated. “The siblings are free, and they are going to remain free. And any others that we find we're going to free them as well. What's the plan for Nancy Armstrong?”

“Before we get to Nancy Armstrong there is yet another piece of news that I have for you guys.” Sapphire stated. “I don't know how you're going to take this information but it's going to come out sooner or later so here's what we have. We broke down the number of siblings that each of you potentially have. That number has been reduced because we found that some of the siblings were discharged. However, we have discovered something very interesting. We know that at some point Bradford Chambers II decided he was going to be the primary donor in the experiment. However, we have been able to identify the initial donors and our tech folks were able to match the DNA from you Monty…” she paused to clear the chuckle in her throat.

“It sounds like you are having too much fun with this bit of news you're trying to share with us,” Rachel declared. “So, what is it? Is Monty related to somebody famous or something? Spit it out Phire.”

“It is just amazing to me that we did not see this. It was right in front of all of us,” she turned towards Monty. “But let’s talk about the other siblings first. Nannette Nadler, Winston Nadler’s daughter is actually Ross’ sibling. So far, we have found twenty other siblings related to you.”

“Wow,” Rachel exclaimed. “Winston is the reporter who brought this story to my attention. How cool is it that you are related to his daughter. That is going to freak him out.”

“It’s freaking me out,” Ross said in his nonchalant manner then asked. “Do we know their locations?”

“We are working on that,” Sapphire explained then turned. “Drake you, and forty-seven others have Bradford Chambers II as your donor. However, of the forty-seven we have only located ten. We believe the others are with Chambers. Dane, you have nineteen siblings who we have located, some are with Chambers as well.

“You still haven't gotten back to Monty,” Rachel raised an eyebrow.

“Yes, Monty, your line of siblings is the most interesting of all.” Sapphire smiled.

  “Why is that?”

“As it turns out, from the thirty siblings connected to you, damn near all of them were rebels. All but five were discarded from the program, just as you were. Which in hindsight was probably the best outcome. We were able to locate fifteen of them in the foster care system. Therefore, we were able to follow their progress. Of the fifteen, twelve of them all went into the field of law. You all took after your donor.”

“But that's not all, is it?” Wade raised an eyebrow. “What are you holding back?”

Sapphire actually took a moment to before continuing. “Here's the down and dirty guys. Ross, Jason Rolfeman was your sperm donor. Dane, Edward Ackerson is your sperm donor, and Monty…”

“Don’t say it,” Monty shook his head. “Not the asshole.”

“Monty your sperm donor was the one and only Justice Cunningham.”

Everyone in the room was quiet for a long moment. You could hear a pin drop in the room.

“Well,” Rachel said in amazement. “If that don't connect everything together, I don't know what the hell would.”

“Are any of the siblings you found from Kate’s caseload in the Roanoke area?” Wade asked.

“Yes, there were actually ten others that were in Kate Tyson’s files.” Sapphire replied.

“While the information on our individual sperm donors is interesting,” Monty stated, "we're going to put that on the back burner until we have clear minds to be able to deal with what we have just learned. Right now, we need to hear your plans on Nancy. Unless of course, you have some other news that you need to tell us.”

“No, that's all I have for now,” Sapphire stated. “You are right. I needed to give you this information but there is more to be discovered. Now let's deal with what is confronting us in this moment. We have a plan in place to free Nancy. Monty you are going to have to get the word to her on the condition of her extraction.”

“Why are there any conditions?” He questioned. “She is a human being held against her will.”

“Yes, a human being who may have critical information regarding a serum designed by a mad man who has already killed God only knows how many people.” Sapphire exclaimed. “The information from the P.I.E. organization documents we now have indicated those numbers are in the hundreds across the east coast. I will put odds that there are others. The fact remains, we still do not know what part she played in Chambers’ operations. So, yes there are conditions to her extraction.”

“What do you have in mind, Phire?” Wade asked.

“We need to establish a safe barrier for Monty to speak with Nancy again. I have people in Martinsville who are watching over her to ensure her safety. We also have someone looking into the tunnel system that you all mentioned, and Nancy alluded to when we spoke with her. We need to know what Nancy knows about that tunnel system and about Chambers' operations before we can complete the plans.”
