“Thanks,” Jordan said.
“No, Jordan,” Ellie said. “Thank you. You brought us together again.”
“I kind of did, didn’t I?”
Jean nodded.
“So? Does that mean I get to share the brownies now?” Jordan asked.
Ellie swatted her. “Get out of my bedroom.”
“Hey, I’ll be legal in a year!”
“God help us,” Ellie said. She laughed when Jordan left the room.
“You know that ring will burn a hole in her pocket, don’t you?” Jean asked.
Ellie shrugged. “What is meant to be will be, honey.”
Jean leaned in and kissed Ellie. “Did you really hear Ed laughing?”
“I did.”
“What do you think he’d say about us?”
“He’d say it was long overdue,” Ellie said. “I have the feeling he’s found his way home, too.”
“To Anna?”
Ellie smiled.
“Gram!”
“Mom!”
“Where are they?”
“Jean!” Beth yelled. “Are you and Ellie in that bedroom? This is not a 1969 love fest!”
Ellie giggled.
Jean got up, peeked out the door, and yelled. “Brownies should be done in the kitchen!” She shut the door and hopped onto the bed again.
“What are you doing?” Ellie asked.
“I don’t need a time machine or brownies for a love fest.”
Ellie laughed. “You realize they will be banging on the door in minutes?”
“Gram!”
“Nana!”
Ellie shook her head, stood, and held out her hand.
“I guess the honeymoon is over,” Jean quipped.
Ellie pulled Jean to her and kissed her soundly. “It’s only the beginning, Jean. Only the beginning.”
