But his thoughts on whether he stood a chance with Sivney would have to wait because Bray had asked him to go to the main house and communicate a message to either Lidon or Palani, and so Lev went. He debated using the front door and actually ringing the bell, but that seemed awkward and formal, considering he knew everyone else simply walked in and out. His stomach was tight with nerves as he let himself in through the back door.

In the hallway, he almost bumped into Lars, who gave him a curt nod. Lev awkwardly raised his hand, but it seemed to be enough for the beta, who walked past him without saying anything. Then again, Lars had never been the friendliest guy nor a sparkling conversationalist, so Lev didn't take it personally from him.

Voices drifted in from the kitchen, and Lev stopped walking, his hands clammy. Why the hell had Bray asked him to do this? Why not someone else, someone who was familiar and comfortable and wouldn't be laughed out of the room or looked at with veiled annoyance?

Then other sounds reached his ears, and he frowned. Was someone in pain? He turned his head, trying to pinpoint the source of the noise. A low moan, followed by a thump. What was that? He took a few steps in the direction. It came from one of the rooms. He took another few steps, then stopped to listen again.

It clicked, and his cheeks flushed with heat as his cock grew hard instantly. Sex. Those were the unmistakable sounds of someone having sex. Two men, if he had to make a guess, which he did, his mind conjuring up all kinds of images. The thumps became rhythmic now, as did the moans, keeping pace with each other. Someone was being fucked against the door and rather enjoying it, judging by the enthusiastic soundtrack.

He really should walk away, but he couldn't, glued to his spot as he listened.

"You are such a good little pup for me, aren't you, taking your alpha's cock?"

Lev recognized the voice now, even though it was much lower and coarser than usual. Grayson. He hadn't had much interaction with him, but he'd never forget the words the man had spoken, words the pack members kept repeating to each other. A prophecy, an announcement of the True Omega who would bring unity, healing, and power to the pack. No one had understood, but everyone had felt the hope behind those words.

"Yes, alpha," was the hushed reply.

Since he'd just run into Lars, that had to be Sven, their pregnant omega.

"Enjoying the audio show?" an amused voice said behind him. Lev swiveled around, his cheeks growing even hotter, which he wouldn't have thought possible.

"No! I didn't mean to… I thought someone was in trouble,” he stammered to Palani, who raised an eyebrow. Lev's shoulders dropped. Would he ever manage to not embarrass himself in front of the others?

"Right," Palani said with that intonation that meant he didn’t believe him at all. Dammit.

"Bray asked me to talk to you or the alpha," Lev said, desperate to change the subject. "He wanted me to relay a message to you."

Palani checked his watch. "You'll have to talk to Lidon. I have a meeting with Sando to go over his research, and I'm already running late." A mischievous grin appeared on his face. “Our pack alpha had to get rid of some energy, and I was his willing victim."

It took a second before Lev realized the meaning, and he wanted to die of embarrassment. How was it possible that everyone else could be so open about sex when even the word itself caused him to blush?

"That's… I mean…" He stopped talking, unable to come up with anything to say in response.

Palani slapped him on his shoulder. "You're fun to tease, Lev. But fair warning, I would wait a few minutes before walking in. Lidon wasn't done releasing energy yet, so it's Enar's turn now."

He shot him another big grin before walking away, leaving Lev standing in the hallway like a statue. Lev swallowed. Lidon and Enar? On one hand, it made sense since Enar considered himself a beta, but Lev had never thought through the implications. There was a certain logic that Lidon would always be on the giving side with all of his men because he was their alpha, but Lev hadn't realized what that meant for Enar. Physically, he was an alpha, so how was he okay with being on the receiving end?

Maybe he likes it as much as you do, the voice inside him said, but Lev shook his head. He didn't want to go there. Not now, not ever again. It had been a mistake, a costly one, and he wouldn't make it again. He’d learn to be a good alpha, somehow, and do and be what and who he was supposed to.

Still, when sounds came in from the kitchen, he couldn't help himself, and he inched closer, careful not to make any noise. The last thing he wanted was for the pack alpha to catch him being a peeping Tom. When he stepped close enough to see, he could barely hold back a gasp.

Enar was bent over the kitchen table, his scrubs down on his ankles with his underwear, his hands pinned behind his back by the pack alpha's left hand. Lidon stood behind him, his jeans pooling around his ankles as he fucked him in a merciless rhythm that had the whole table shaking.

"If you break that table, Palani will be very upset with you," a voice said, and it took a few seconds for Lev to place it. Vieno, their omega.

Lidon didn't look up, but he grinned, never faltering in his rhythm. "The table can handle it, and so can Enar, can't you, baby?"

He pulled out, and Lev clammed a hand over his mouth to prevent himself from making any sound, because oh my god, that cock. It was the biggest he'd ever seen, and that was even from his safe distance. Lev had always thought Naran was big, but Lidon put him to shame.

Lidon slapped Enar's ass, his smile widening as Enar groaned. "You eager for more?"

Enar lifted his head from the table. "Always, alpha."

The hand that had slapped his ass so hard it had left a handprint now tenderly stroked Enar's back. "I know, baby. Next time, stop being a stubborn ass and tell me you need me. You know I will never say no to you."

  "Yes, alpha."

Lidon slammed back in, burying that monster cock deep inside Enar with one powerful thrust, and Enar howled. Was he in pain? No, it was pleasure. Enar turned his head and, much to Lev's horror, made direct eye contact with him. But the alpha—no, he was a beta, Lev corrected himself—didn't say anything. He didn't alert the others to Lev's presence but smiled as his alpha went to town. Lev couldn't look away as Lidon sped up with such powerful thrusts that the table moved a little from its spot.

"Oh, for fuck's sake, Lidon, be careful with that table," Vieno said with clear annoyance.

Lidon grunted, throwing his head back as he gave one last hard thrust, then dropped on top of Enar, his body shaking. He murmured something low into Enar's ear, letting go of his hands and wrapping his strong arms around him. Enar leaned into his touch, and the alpha buried his face against Enar’s neck.

"God, I love fucking you," Lidon said with a sigh as he pulled out, dragging a trail of cum out of Enar's ass.

"And I love it when you ravage me like this," Enar said, his voice a little dreamy. "So I'd say this is a win-win."

Lev's cheeks burned so hot, he felt like he was on fire. His cock was throbbing in his pants, his underwear wet with precum. No way was he facing the pack alpha like this. Not after watching this. He had to get out of there. Now.

But as he turned around, he must've made a sound. Lidon jerked his head to the left, and his eyes found Lev. The alpha's mouth curled into a smile, and Lev wanted to die. Right fucking now. So he did the only thing he could do, which was turn around and run out the door.

He ran to his building, not stopping for anything or anyone. When he was in his own room, he jerked himself off so fast and rough, replaying in his mind what he’d seen, that he saw stars when he came, shooting thick ropes of cum all over himself. And then his cheeks grew fiery again when he realized he’d been picturing himself as Enar…and not as Lidon.

  Dammit.

Naran would never admit it, but he’d grown used to Sivney’s daily visits. Even more, he was looking forward to them—and if someone had told him that nine days ago when he’d first met Sivney, he would’ve laughed them out of the room. And not with funny laughter.

But Naran had come to appreciate the omega’s presence. He’d learned that there was little sense in resisting whatever Sivney had planned because the omega was stubborn as a mule. The way he’d managed to get Naran out of his bed to change the bed linens a few days ago was proof of that. Naran had been determined not to give in, and yet he’d found himself in the chair, watching Sivney remake his bed.

Not that it had been an unpleasant view. The omega had shown off his curves, bending and stretching to get the bed made, right in front of him. Naran might be a cripple, but everything else still worked, and his dick had appreciated the view. It had also remembered the little sounds of pleasure Sivney had made when Naran had given him a foot massage.

He’d been scared he’d gone too far there, even if it had been unintentional. He’d seen the pain and tiredness on Sivney’s face, his swollen feet, and he’d wanted to make him feel better. Well, he did, and he’d made himself feel better as well. It had surprised him, that strong reaction to Sivney, as much because he was pregnant as because he was an omega. And because he wasn’t Lev, but Naran pushed that thought down. Thoughts of Lev couldn’t lead to anything good.

His room smelled different, even if it was still dirty. Maybe he could ask Palani to send someone to clean it. Not Sivney. That was much too intense for him. Naran already felt it was too much for the pregnant omega to take care of him, but of course, with that stubborn streak, there was no chance of him persuading Sivney of that truth.

A firm knock on the door jolted him from his thoughts. “Come in!” he called out.

Sivney stepped into the room. “Good morning, Naran. How are you feeling today?”

“Fine,” he said, and Sivney raised an eyebrow. Naran frowned. What was wrong? Then he realized what he’d said. “Whatever. It’s just a reflexive answer.”

“We’ll go with that,” Sivney said, a smile playing on his lips.

Naran’s eyes dropped to what Sivney had brought with him, and his face tightened. “No,” he said firmly. “Absolutely not.”

God, how he wished for Carrie-like powers so he could set that wheelchair on fire with his eyes. That would come in handy right about now. Or teleportation, so he could teleport himself somewhere else. Somewhere private, where people would leave him the fuck alone. Somewhere with tons of alcohol. And better painkillers, the kind that knocked you out and made you forget about everything. Forgetting sounded good.

“He’s decent,” Sivney said, and Naran frowned in puzzlement. Who was Sivney talking to?

Then Vieno stepped into the room, carrying a bucket in one hand, and a mop in the other. “I’m here to deep clean your room,” he said with a careful smile, and Naran knew he was cornered. Dammit. He didn’t stand a chance against these two, not when they clearly wanted to help him.

“I hate you,” he told Sivney, who merely sent him a blinding smile, knowing he’d gotten his way.

“No, you don’t,” Sivney said, pulling the wheelchair close to the bed and locking the wheels. He folded the footrests up, then double-checked the brakes. “Your chariot awaits.”

“I’m no damn prince,” Naran grumbled.

“No one would mistake you for Prince Charming,” Sivney mumbled under his breath. He would not smile, Naran told himself. If he did that, he’d lose any power he had.

“I don’t want to go outside,” Naran said, his tone firm.

“Funny, I don’t remember asking you,” Sivney said, crossing his arms. “Vieno is here to clean your room, and we need to get out of his hair. When we get back, your room will be all fresh and smelling of lemon. Don’t you want that?”

He was good, knowing exactly what to say. Naran hadn’t been aware of the smell in his room, of his bed, hell, of himself, until Sivney had pointed it out. Ever since, he hadn’t been able to ignore it, letting Sivney help him into the shower without much protest. It was humiliating as fuck to sit on that chair in the shower, buck naked with his failing body on display, while Sivney washed him, but he endured it. He hated every second of it, but dammit, he did feel better now that he was clean again.

“I hate you,” he said again, but his words held no force, and they both knew it.

“I can live with that,” Sivney said. “Vieno, can you give me a hand pulling him up? He can stand and walk a few steps, but he needs to lean on someone.”

Flanked by two omegas, Naran pushed himself up. “Fuck!” he cried out when a sharp pain stabbed through his left leg. That one was the worst, constantly aching, even when he was sitting or lying down. “Sorry,” he said between clenched teeth, ashamed he’d let that slip in front of the two omegas.

“It’s okay,” Sivney said. “I know it hurts like a mother. Curse all you want.”

Naran could bitch about him all he wanted, but Sivney always gave it to him straight. He didn’t deny Naran’s pain, and somehow, that made it different. Not better, but bearable. Naran clenched his jaw as he turned around, leaning heavily on the two men, letting another loud curse slip as he lowered himself into the wheelchair.

By the time he sat down, he was panting, his forehead and neck wet with sweat. He closed his eyes, a wave of nausea rolling over him as his legs adjusted to the new position. He heard them walking around him, the two omegas, but he had to focus on not throwing up. Then someone placed a cool cloth on his forehead, and he groaned in relief. Sivney—because he recognized his smell by now—patted his forehead dry, then put the cold cloth on his neck.

  “Thank you,” he forced out.

“Focus on your breathing,” came the soft instruction. Naran wasn’t sure how he did it, but Sivney always seemed to know when to be harsh and direct with him and when to be kind and gentle. The cold cloth disappeared but maybe half a minute later, it returned, cold all over again. Sivney’s hands were tender as he wiped Naran’s face and neck. His breathing slowed down and so did his heart rate, to the point where it felt safe to open his eyes.

“Better?” Sivney asked, standing right next to him.

  He nodded. “Yeah.”

“Good. Let me know when you’re ready to go outside.”

He wouldn’t take no for an answer, Naran knew that, but the omega had no idea what he was asking. For everyone to see him like this, his mangled legs all thin and weak, his body so sunken and frail, the thought alone made him sick to his stomach.

“It’s a little nippy outside, so I’m gonna wrap you in a blanket, okay?” Sivney said, and then he tucked a soft fleece blanket around Naran’s legs, tight enough so it would stay put but loose enough that his legs were hidden. He settled Naran’s feet on the foot rests, putting them in a position that was comfortable. Next came a similar blanket around his torso, covering his upper body while leaving his arms free. Naran felt his eyes well up. Maybe Sivney did realize what this cost Naran.

After the omega had covered him in the blankets, he looked at Naran. “Ready?”

He couldn’t explain why, but that question felt good. Like he still had a choice, when in reality he didn’t. Sivney didn’t want to hurt his pride, and he appreciated that more than he could ever explain to him. He would get through this, he told himself. It was just one time, and the idea of returning to a clean room did appeal to him. “Ready,” he said, even though he wasn’t.

Sivney put his hand on Naran’s shoulder and he gently squeezed. “Thank you,” he said, and Naran felt the weight of his approval settling in his chest like hot chocolate with a shot of whiskey on a cold day.

“Let’s go,” Naran said. “The sooner we get this over with, the better.”

Sivney chuckled as he unlocked the brakes and pushed the wheelchair out of the room. “Maybe the sun will improve your mood, Mr. Grumpy.”

When Sivney rolled him outside, Naran had to close his eyes. It hurt, the bright light, stabbing his eyes and making his vision go white. He must’ve made a sound, because Sivney stopped and leaned in. “What’s wrong?” Before Naran could answer, Sivney clicked his tongue. “The light. It’s hurting your eyes. Give me one minute, okay?”

Naran nodded, unable to do much more. Even with his hands covering his closed eyes, it still hurt. He heard Sivney come back. What could he do to make this better?

“Remove your hands for me,” Sivney said, his tone gentle and warm.

Naran found himself obeying, and seconds later, sunglasses were carefully put on his nose. Then Sivney planted a baseball cap on his head, pulling the cap low. “How’s that?” he checked.

Naran opened one eye, then the other. It was still bright, but not as bad as before. The stabbing light was gone, in its place the sensation of walking into the light after spending a whole day inside. This was doable, he decided. “Good enough,” he said.

“Good. I’ll try to stay out of the direct sun, though some sunlight on your skin would be good for you. You’re awfully pale.”

“You would be too if you hadn’t been outside for three months.”

Sivney made a low gasp, and Naran realized what he had let slip. Fuck. Sivney excelled at persuading him to do all kinds of things he didn’t want to, including opening up. How could one little omega have so much power over him? He had to stop this, had to find his backbone again and learn to say no. This couldn’t continue, or he’d end up some sorry sap who spilled all his dark pain to an innocent omega.

  12

He’d fallen asleep. Sivney realized it after a few minutes of walking around with Naran. First, he’d thought the man had retreated into his sullen self again, but when he stopped to check on him, the alpha had his eyes closed, his head lulling to the side. He must’ve been exhausted from helping Sivney push the wheelchair on the rough terrain by using his hands. The poor guy wasn’t used to anything physical anymore.

Sivney’s heart clenched with tenderness. Naran had been in so much pain when he’d gotten into the wheelchair. As always when he saw Naran struggle, Sivney felt it deep inside him, as if he took on a small part of that pain himself. Even worse was Naran’s emotional pain. Three months inside and never setting foot outside, not even after he’d arrived on the ranch? What the hell had happened to him? And equally important: how had the others on the ranch let this happen?
