His velvety smooth voice has me in a trance, so hypnotized and mystified that I don’t even sense he’s no longer behind me. It takes me a second to feel my legs and turn around while his stormy eyes darken with unrestrained desire. His next words put me out of my reverie.
“Admit being scared turns you on, Maira.” He steps forward again until he’s looming over me. “That it makes you wet when I threaten you or dominate you.”
“I… uh… no. It’s not true.” I shake my head in denial, even though my pussy clenches at his demand. At the conviction in his tone.
“Don’t lie. Own. It.” He stares me down, entrapping me. “Because nothing makes me lose control than seeing the fear in your gorgeous eyes.” My heart lodges itself in my throat, and my hands twist in my sweater. Don’t fall into his trap. Run.
“I’m not twisted like you, getting off on others’ pain.” I turn around sharply to avoid seeing his face and throw my last words at him. “And I never will be.” You already are.
Then, I run.
CHAPTER 12
MAIRA
Ever since I could remember, I have been utterly fascinated with histories of places, the battles fought and how they feel completely unbelievable, especially when they take a haunted turn. Sometimes I even wished to go back to those times and experiencing it all for myself. Call me crazy, but it gets me excited. So it was only natural that I learn about the legends of this place, too. But instead of that, I have somehow been sucked into the haunted tales surrounding the hills—and there are many. Almost all dating back to the times when India was under the British regime.
I don’t believe in ghosts or evil spirits haunting us, but it scares the fuck out of me nonetheless. So I should most definitely stop eavesdropping on the group of ladies sitting next to me, but my curiosity doesn’t let me. It’s one of those situations where we know the circumstances yet getting to the end is irresistible. I’ll probably have nightmares in my sleep and my roommate would probably enjoy it. I indulge myself by promising I’ll listen a little bit and then stop… but the name of the town captures my attention. It’s the same one I visit daily. DAGASHAI: SPIRITVILLE.
“Our town has always been surrounded by sinister tales, but this actually scares me a little. I couldn’t believe it the first time I heard.”
“Oh, it’s very true. My father-in-law himself told me that back during British regime, an old abandoned mansion was used for torturing and killing traitors and became known as an evil land. Some nights, if you pass by it, you can hear creepy sounds and awful cries,” one woman adds.
“So what happened to that couple must be real as well?” another asks.
“Which couple?” I’m curious as fuck to know as well.
“It was a long while back that a family decided to purchase the evil land and built their home on it, even after being warned by the villagers. All was so normal for a year or two that everyone forgot about the haunted story, but later, both of them were found dead. The husband had killed and mutilated his wife and later shot himself. The scariest part that raised everybody’s hackles was the beheaded snake carved into their chests, which was the same symbol marked on the bodies of the traitors.”
The rest of the group gasps in fear and horror—as do I. I am so engrossed in their story that I don’t even hear my name being called out at the front counter. The waiter behind it stares at me annoyedly for wasting his precious time, so I jog quickly over to him and take my coffee cup. The heat warms my hands while I find a place to sit, but there are no empty seats near that group I was listening to earlier. I decide to go back to the cabin instead.
It’s very true that curiosity killed the cat, because right now, instead of forgetting all about the story, I’m searching for the date the couple was found dead. I’m finding it hard to believe that it’s mentioned that on one specific day, the evil spirits or ghosts choose to stalk the entire town. Sure, a place could be cursed, but the whole town… it’s too far-fetched. When I finally find what I’m looking for… I sigh in relief. The date is not for at least another few months, and I’ll be gone by then. I decide to read one of my favorite romance novel to pass the time.
A few chapters in and I’m still distracted, because my mind circles around the story that I’m unable to forget. And just then, I remember the driver’s warning. Could he have been talking about the same couple? Riddled with too many thoughts, I decide to call Sasha, trusting her to tell the truth. There is no one else I can think of who knows the history of this town like she does. She picks up on the third ring.
“To what do I owe this pleasure?” she sing-songs.
“So, I heard something mysterious today and I was hoping if you could shed some light, considering you’re pretty familiar with the dark side of this town,” I joke.
“Ooh… I like where this is going. Ask away.” I hear the excitement in her tone. She loves to gossip.
“I learnt there’s an abandoned haunted mansion and that this town becomes a ghost-town on a day some couple died. Is it true?” My voice takes a deep drawl at the end, like I’m afraid saying it out loud will alert the spirits or something. Ugh… I should have stopped when I had the chance.
“I honestly can’t confirm if it’s true or a made-up story, because it’s not like I have met any ghosts or experienced shit like this. It’s like I won’t truly believe unless I see one, but the locals who have spent their whole lives here are very superstitious and tend to stay wary on the night. Most profit off of it, as tourists eat up stories like this.”
“So it’s probably rumors then. I can see why most of us would be fascinated. People are always curious.”
“Yeah… I guess.” I don’t miss how her tone becomes hesitant. My stomach dips.
“Is there something you’re not telling me?”
“Don’t tell anyone this, but an incident happened once that nobody talks about. A while back, a bunch of drunk teenagers went to visit the mansion late at night on a dare. You know how sometimes kids get cocky and want to come out badass? But a girl actually got lost, and like a bunch of assholes, the others left her behind, and it scared everyone when she was found two days later. The girl killed herself a month later by hanging herself. Word was something happened to her while she was gone and she went batshit crazy. It was like a dark cloud hanging over the town. So yeah… Maybe there’s more to it than just rumors.”
When she’s done, I’m speechless and a whole lot more scared.
She continues, “I just avoid that part of town like everyone else.”
“Fuck… That’s terrifying.”
“You have nothing to worry about. Your cabin is on the opposite side. No one’s hiding under your bed,” she laughs.
“Don’t say shit like that.” I curse. “I won’t be able to sleep.”
“You can always use it as an excuse to sleep in Arav’s bed. Let him chase the monsters away.”
“Not funny. He’ll probably throw me out of his room while laughing his ass off.”
“You’re no fun,” she teases.
*****
My eyes jerk open at the sounds of footsteps passing in the hallway. I assume it’s probably Arav wandering around and try to rest for a few more minutes, but my body picks up on the sudden coldness in my bedroom, shivers going down my spine. I look towards the bedroom door to see if I accidently left it open, but the darkness in the room makes it harder to check. Sitting up, I slowly stretch my legs and move towards the door, my arms out in front of me in case I hit something. My hands touch the cold surface of the doors and I find them tightly shut.
When the sleep fogginess turns to sharpness, I try switching on the lights but realize there’s no power in the cabin, explaining why it’s cold as fuck in here. There’s only the sound of me breathing in the otherwise complete silence. The only reason I’m not panicking right now is because Arav is probably here, which is kind of ironic. Strangely, the thought of him close makes me feel safe. I slowly walk out in the hallway and call out his name to make sure he is, in fact, somewhere in here, hopefully working on getting the power back on. The iciness and the darkness does not make a great combination.
“Arav!” I try once more but still no response. My heart beats wildly inside my chest. Did I mention I’m absolutely scared of being alone in the dark? My mind chooses this exact moment to remind me of the haunted tale. Somehow, I manage to find Arav’s bedroom by following the wall and I push the door open, its hinges making a squeaking noise like they do in the movies—or maybe my subconscious is focusing on it too much. I regret not charging my phone before I fell asleep. Would have come in handy now.
Oh god! Where is he? His room is empty, and like every time I have been here, the balcony’s door are wide open. Whose footsteps did I hear then? Or maybe he’s downstairs. Please don’t let me be alone, I repeat inside my head on a loop while taking slow, measured steps to reach the stairs and get down to the hall or kitchen. Maybe there’s a candle or a torch.
When I finally get into the hallway, a cold breeze brushes past me, raising goosebumps on my flesh and forcing my heart into my throat. I strain my ears, desperate to hear Arav’s voice or footsteps to confirm his presence but come up empty. I don’t want to be stuck here on my own. Who knows when the power is going to come back? Now that I want him close, he’s nowhere to be found. Why isn’t he fulfilling his stupid promise of always shadowing me? Was it all lies? My hands hold onto the banister while I take the stairs.
“Arav, are you here?” My voice comes out scared as a mouse, echoing in the dark, empty entrance room. Fuck. I’m all alone.
Thump!
I jump in panic at the sudden sound coming from somewhere around the drawing room, or maybe the kitchen. I startle once again when it repeats, only much louder and closer this time. I don’t dare to take a step, fear keeping me rooted to the spot and afraid of what I might find on the other side. The flickering moonlight shadows the hallway right in front of me, providing little bit of sight in the darkness. I give myself a pep talk myself to move. The sound could be anything. My mind is just playing tricks on me. It’s like those times when you feel as though someone is following you, even though it’s all irrational fear in your head. Taking a deep breath, I follow the low light but stop short when it’s suddenly gone, like a shadow falling over.
I squint my eyes and my steps falter when I realize the shadow is a figure. My mouth opens on a gasp, but no sound comes out. The figure looms large and still. Could it be Arav? Maybe he didn’t hear me earlier. With hope, I stride faster, only for the shadow to disappear. And when I turn the corner, there’s no Arav or anyone standing there. Slowly, real dread settles, and I worry if some stranger is in the house and I’m trapped with them, unable to defend myself. No one will hear my cries for help.
I try to be quiet and look around the room, and my eyes land on the open window, realizing that’s where the earlier sound came from. The cold wind keeps the curtain flying against the window. I still my rapidly beating heart when I find the rest of the room empty, shaking my head at the games my subconscious is playing on me. If someone was here, they couldn’t have left without me seeing them. I laugh like a crazy person at my stupidity. Once I reach the window, I close it tightly and lock it for extra measure.
Then a scream rips through my throat when I catch a movement behind me—someone heading towards the stairs. I turn around sharply and look for anything to use as a weapon for protection but come up short. What do I do? Fuck. Fuck. He went in the direction of the stairs, which is good. I can easily run out the front door, and once I reach the town, I’ll get help. It will work. I’m not waiting around for them to hurt me.
I tip-toe towards the hallway leading to the front door, and when his shadow comes closer, I fucking run and almost reach the door, snapping it open, but at the last second, a hand slaps it shut and I’m shoved back into a hard chest. One hand circles my waist to pick me up until my toes barely touch the ground while I scream and shout, trying to loosen his hold. A ringing goes inside my head, blocking out every sound, and I can feel my body being pulled back inside the cabin. I kick and hit him with all my might, making him lose his balance, and we both go down. Before I can escape, my arms are pulled behind my back, effectively trapping me. I feel his breath before his softly whispered voice.
“Shh… princess.”
I still in disbelief at hearing the familiar baritone voice, one that has been haunting me since day one. Fucking Arav. It was him all along. Like a switch, my fear and panic turns to red-hot anger. How dare he scare me like that? I thought I was going to get raped and probably killed. I twist out of his hold and turn around to face him. His midnight-green eyes glow in the dark like enchanting crystals, and they watch me with mild amusement and heavy lust. His lips fall into a cruel smirk and tilt upwards when a tear rolls down my cheek. I can’t even tell if they fall from frustration, anger, or fear. Probably all of it.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?” I shout while crawling backwards to get away from him. Not having that, he takes ahold of both my ankles and pulls me forward between his spread legs, holding me still while he leans down and tortuously slowly licks the tear from my cheek. For some messed-up reason, it sparks an ache in my pussy. Instead of pulling away, he runs his mouth to my ear, a shiver ghosting down my spine.
“I like you scared, princess.”
Pushing away from me, he gets on his knees and looms over me like a mean and large presence. I swallow and speak past the dryness in my throat. “You’re sick, Arav.”
Quick as a snake, he covers my body with his and grips my neck. “Sick. Twisted. Obsessed. Possessive. I’m all of it and more when it comes to you, Maira.” he proudly says, and again, my pussy throbs and my nipples turn hard, which he feels against his broad chest. That godawful, panty-melting, cruel smirk graces his lips, making his face all the more dangerous and seductive at once.
“Please…” I plead. I don’t know what for exactly, but it’s like he does, and I’m more than happy when he takes my lips in a savage kiss. His lips and tongue attack my mouth brutally, leaving no corner untouched. He tastes, sucks, bites and growls against my lips. My hand finds his on my throat, and like a masochist, I squeeze so I feel the bite and shortening of my breath. It ignites our passion and his dominance. The kiss turns messy and greedy, as if it’s not enough even though my mouth is as wide open as it can be. I suck his lip into my mouth and bite down hard, tasting his blood, and I’m fucking lost in his embrace. It could be hours or minutes when we finally break apart, breathing roughly against each other.
My eyes open achingly slowly to find his staring back at me while his thumb softly caresses the pulse on my neck. I blush under his penetrating gaze, and maybe for the first time, I smile in his presence when he promises, “I’m nowhere near done with you.”
CHAPTER 13
ARAV
Arousal. Thick and potent. It permeates the air while I stand over Maira as she kneels at my feet, a scared little lamb ready for slaughter. Only I can’t decide whether I want her body destroyed by pleasure or her soul broken like mine. Her eyes lose the fear I saw shining bright a minute ago while sweet tears ran down her cheeks. Her face has never looked more beautiful to me, and my dick has never been so hard. These days, I can’t tell if I always was this fucked up with sadistic tendencies or if she’s brought it out in me with her innocence. The more I lose myself in our little games, the more I realize we complete each other like a jigsaw puzzle, our twisted and sick needs complimenting one another.
Her tiny shorts ride up her legs, goosebumps all over her skin, and I breathe hard. My hands clench at my sides with the need to fuck her out of my system. When I heard her on the phone earlier, retelling the little ghost story she heard somewhere, I wanted to laugh at her naivety and curious mind. I watched from the doorway, unbeknownst to her, how her breath turned short and legs went restless, and I couldn’t help but smirk because I knew she didn’t even realize that fear turns her on. It’s her kink. Her ultimate downfall. Because men like me will never miss the chance to feed off of it.
When the power went out, it was the perfect way to toy with my little princess, and the whole time I chased her, heard her call out my name and sigh with disappointment when I stayed quiet, it made me feel alive. Just when I wanted to end it, she called out for me like I was her savior, and it was like cold water splashing over me. Because that can never be me. I’ll always be the monster and the twisted bastard in her life who’s only ever going to use her. The sooner she believes it, the better.
She gazes at me under her lashes, patiently waiting for my command. How sweet. She has no idea what she’s in for. I back away from her and sit down on the couch, spreading my legs so she doesn’t miss the bulge straining against my sweatpants. It gives me immense pleasure to hear the slight hitch in her breath.
“Crawl for me, princess.”
She swallows and stares at the floor then at me. I curl my fingers and raise my chin slightly, a silent order to obey. I watch, mesmerized, how she slowly gets on her hands and knees and moves while licking her lips like a fucking little tease, but I’m not satisfied with degrading her yet.
“Stop.” She looks up at me questioningly. “Take out your tits. I want to watch them bounce while you crawl over to me.”
“But it’s cold,” she whimpers.
“You do as you’re told, or I’ll make you do it naked. Your choice,” I growl. Her eyes turn into slits and I smirk at the glimpse of fire in them. We both know that in the end, she’ll obey me. The dirty side of her is enjoying every second of this humiliation. One second. Two second. And her hands reach for her sweater. Fuck… no bra underneath. My mouth waters when her naked breasts fall free. The chill in the room turns her nipples harder than before, and her stomach tightens. I school my expressions when she begins to crawl again, and I don’t stop her this time.
