  YOU ARE LOVED

  Prologue

  BLUE

There's nothing like the fear that comes with being a mother. I may not have given birth to my daughter, nor did I raise her before she turned seven or even know of her existence, but she is ingrained in my soul.

The feelings and total love are so intense, so deep in my bones, that I'm literally rattling with anxiety. My teeth are chattering, and I can't stomach more than a few sips of water.

My men can't help. They can love and support me in this scary time, but they don't know the love between a mother and a daughter. They aren't her dads, and they didn't know her before she was already an adult, but they love her.

Our house is practically vibrating with our combined stress and fear. Not even the scent of freshly baked cookies can help alleviate the tension in the air. Roman's stress cooking just makes me nauseous.

I wouldn't be freaking out if Cassidy hadn't called me forever ago, crying and panicking about where Violet was. V is always off on an adventure, and while it sometimes keeps me up at night, I try not to worry about her. She's done her training and works hard to keep herself safe on her trips. Sometimes we don't hear from her for half a day, but that's to be expected considering the random places she parks her car and hikes.

This time is different. Not because three men are flipping out about her silence, but it's what followed hours later.

When Cassidy told me what the guys said, my heart broke. The heartbreak came first, then Cass said a voicemail was sent to Violet and that within minutes, all three of the guys' numbers were blocked.

  Even Jamie.

I don't have all the information, nor do I know what was going through their heads when they chose to seek revenge on my sweet Violet. But those things don't fucking matter right now, because nobody has any idea where she is.

I've tried calling her so many times my phone is about to die.

Felix crouches in front of me and places his hands on my bouncing thighs. "Sweetheart, you need to rest."

"Fuck that," I snap, but my head drops into the palms of my hands, betraying my exhaustion. Another hand rubs my back, bringing tears to my eyes. "Where is she?" I whimper.

"Bee, drink some water," Jared encourages beside me. "Please, the stress isn't good for you."

I bite my lips to stop from growling at him like a pissed-off dog, but I can't stifle my glare when I snatch the water bottle from him. Jared just smiles softly at me and nods, which makes me feel bad because I know I'm also adding to their worries.

Before I can apologize, Felix speaks. "Violet going silent doesn't mean something is wrong."

"How can you say that?!" I ask, baffled. "She listened to that fucked up message and blocked them. She won't answer my calls, and nobody has any idea what her travel plans are."

Roman enters the living room with a plate of zucchini bread that makes me scrunch up my nose. He doesn't notice my reaction as he declares, "I'm going to insist she turn on her location again. This is ridiculous. She knows how dangerous it is to be travelling alone and in the fucking woods. Can't believe I let her convince me she doesn't need to share her location anymore..."

We all listen to Roman grumble as he fusses over his bread. Declan snickers quietly at his brother from the other side of the living room.

Felix's face is still thunderous from my reminder of what those guys did to Violet. Unfortunately, I think he might fixate on those asshats as soon as Violet is home.

I have to hope she's coming home. I must. There's nothing we can really do until we hear from her. I refuse to think we will reach the twenty-four-hour mark before we hear from her.

I'm not waiting to make a missing persons report because she's not missing. Violet's hurting and needs some time. That's all.

My eyesight blurs, making my men stiffen with worry, again. But their concerns are cut off by the ringing of my phone. Screeching, I dive for the device on the cushion beside me, ignoring the protests. My heart sinks when I see Cassidy's name, but I answer right away.

"Is she home?!" I ask immediately, but the sniffle on the other end of the line tells me all I need to know.

Cass confirms my thoughts. "No. But we were just talking, Jamie, Nate, Ellis, and I. We believe Violet would be going to you. She wouldn't want to come here where these idiots have access to her."

Agreeing with her assessment, I nod. I remember when my guys showed up after hurting me. I wanted to be as far away from them as possible.

"That's not all, though." Cassidy's voice sounds tight and agitated. "You're going to have company."

"Shit," I curse and rub my f orehead as it blooms with a headache. "They're coming, aren't they?"

"Yep." Cassidy goes on to curse Ellis and Nate, even Jamie, while I try to figure out what we're going to do. "You have about five hours. They just ran out the door."

I groan because the sheer masculine drama that's going to unfold when the three dipshits get here will be hard to watch. No way will I be able to hold my men back from kicking sense into Violet's guys.

Cassidy asks me to call her when I know more, but as I open my mouth to ask the same, a car door slams outside.

I'm up and out of my seat in a millisecond, leaving my phone on the ground as I sprint to the front door. Felix bypasses me as I get hung up on my blanket, and when I fling myself out the open front door, I see my sweet girl reach for me.

"MOM!" she cries. My heart completely stops as her forward trajectory does. Her eyes roll into the back of her head, and she collapses into Felix's arms.

No, no, no, no, no! "VIOLET!"

  One

  JAMIE

  About ten hours earlier

What the fuck did he just say?

My attention zeroes in on a few things, like I hit the damn zoom button in an attempt to gather crucial pieces of information right away.

First, Ellis' facial expression screams devastation. His eyes are wide and dripping with tears he has no right letting loose. How dare he act as if his heart is broken? Jaw on the ground and his hands clasped in front of his heart, you'd think he was the one who just got stabbed in the fucking back.

My out-of-body experience shifts to Nate, whose eyes are also wide open. Like a stupid fucking fish out of water, his mouth opens and closes. Anger, shock, and fear flicker across his features.

Makes sense. His partner just outed them.

"I knew I shouldn't have felt bad for sleeping with Jamie to get back at her."

For a few moments, or maybe it's longer, we're suspended in heartbreak with Cassidy's sniffles as our background noise. I'm not dense enough to believe Nate and Ellis aren't at least struggling right now. It's written all over their fucking faces—they never meant to tell us. Or at least they weren't planning on it for a long while.

Doubts swirl and latch onto the broken pieces of my heart that really thought we were building something here. Even if we were, even if some of it was real, it's done now. They used me to hurt the woman I love. It worked. Hell, it worked better than they planned because their revenge hurt me, too.

  "Jamie..."

I cock my head and crack my neck. Sucking on the front of my teeth and grinding my jaw, I try to calm the fury ripping through me. Closing my eyes, I suck a deep breath in through my nose and feel my throat expand with tension.

  "Jamie, it's not—"

What it looks like, Violet once said when she caught Ellis wrapped around me in my kitchen.

  Violet...

She was so fucking brave to allow Nate and Ellis into her heart. I'd bet my entire existence that the journal Nate's gripping like a lifeline holds her thoughts and feelings about our new dynamic.

  "We didn't—"

I don't know who the hell is speaking. I'm totally consumed by the ache in my chest and thundering pulse in my ears. Each time my eyes burn, I clench my jaw to keep the sorrow at bay.

I'll be sad later. Right now, there are two liars in front of me trying to plead their case. Maybe if it were just me, I would listen. But it's not just me.

With murmured thoughts flowing out of me, I shatter my silence. "I was on the phone. I was leaving Violet another voicemail."

Ellis is breathing heavily, and when I look at him again, he looks like he might throw up. It never occurred to me that his immaturity could be so cruel.

Nate inches forward, drawing my attention to him once again. I didn't realize someone so kind, understanding, with natural caretaker instincts had the ability to intentionally hurt someone they love.

I know they love Violet. It's very clear to me that their motives changed. But fucking when? How long was I used as a weapon?

Their feelings for my woman are obvious, but was I always a means to an end? Am I still? Is this where they try to remove me from the picture? Secret’s out. No longer need to lead Jamie on.

"Jamie, are you okay?" Nate's hesitant, as he should be. I'm coiled so fucking tight, I'm not even sure if I'm breathing.

A flare of rage jolts me from my trance, but I keep my body very still. I'm afraid that if I move, I'll lose control of my fisted hands.

My eyes drop to my phone, and I know without checking that my voicemail caught everything Ellis said and sent to Violet. She will know what they did. Her heart will be broken, and she will run from me. She'll hide away from me again.

"Violet will listen to that voicemail," I murmur, trembling with fear of the consequences.

Then Nate bolts forward. "See if you can delete it. Call her again. Something!"

My fist flies before the bastard can even reach for my phone. The crack of my knuckles hitting his cheek is so fucking satisfying, I could groan in delight. Cassidy's cry of fear is the only thing stopping me from grabbing the front of his shirt as he crashes to the ground and nailing him with another.

"Fuck!" Nate curses, one knee on the ground, face etched in pain. Ellis scrambles forward and pries Nate's hand away from his cheek.

"You'll be fine," Ellis whispers, as if he's trying to be as small as possible. "Cass, do you have ice?"

The devil on my shoulder wants to deny them a cold compress, but my heart weeps seeing them in distress.

How...just fucking how could they want to hurt someone intentionally? Their actions will ruin the progress Violet has made to open up and grow. Yet, here I am, hating how I punched Nate.

Ellis peeks up at me, and I meet his red-rimmed eyes. To my surprise, he climbs to his feet and squares his shoulders. "If you want to hit someone, hit me. It was my idea. The revenge, keeping it a secret, all of it."

I'm vaguely aware of Cassidy giving Nate a bag of ice. He moves behind Ellis and tries to pull his partner away, but to Ellis' credit, he doesn't move. He's facing me head-on, ready for a beating. One he deserves. They both deserve it.

I would absolutely let my feral side out and punch him in the gut if he weren't begging for it. No. I'm not giving him what he wants. A punch would make him feel better. The victim should never be the one to make the villain feel better.

I'm the fucking victim here. Violet and I. They're on their own.

My pain, thoughts, and fears for Violet are enough for me to deal with. "You need to leave," I growl, physically stepping back from Ellis.

I watch, feeling sick to my stomach, as his face crumples. The devastation is back. He craves any form of my attention, but I'm not the one who can make him feel better about his choices.

"I—" Ellis croaks, and once again places his hand on his chest. He's one of the most closeted, vulnerable men I've ever met. And because of the ignorance of his extreme feelings, he's broken something special.

"We're not going anywhere," Nate declares resolutely.

I'm already bypassing their tense frames and heading for Cassidy. She's crying quietly and trembling in the kitchen. I need to help her before I do anything else. I scared her, and that's not okay.

I don't care what the hell the other two do. As far as I'm concerned, Violet and Cassidy are my main concerns. The other two are just guilty noise.

"Hey, hun," I coo, bending a little so I'm not towering over her. "You okay?"

"I—what?" She blows out a breath and shakes her head. "Are you okay, Jamie?"

Giving her a sad smile, I grab her hand gently and pull her to the stool at the kitchen island. "Not really. But you're shaking, so I'm going to make you some food. Pizza rolls?"

Her eyes light up at the mention of her beloved snack, and I breathe a sigh of relief. At least I'm good for something.

"Do me a favor and call Violet again, please?" I request as I pre-heat the oven. I keep my voice steady like I'm not scared out of my mind. Cassidy doesn't need me to make things even more tense.
