My brain is unable to process everything and after a long hot shower it simply short circuits and I fall into a dreamless sleep. Sadly, it doesn’t last long because my body has an automatic alarm clock and I jolt awake a little before seven in the morning.

I drag myself into the bathroom to handle my business. I contemplate putting in my blue-colored lens to make my eyes match but decide against it. Seems my parents only wanted me to wear them to hide the obvious link I share with my biological father.

I get dressed in some comfortable jeans and an oversized t-shirt that falls off my shoulder. On a normal work day, I’d wear heels but I find myself adding to my need for comfort and slip into a pair of cow print sneakers.

During all of it, my mind is still processing everything. Especially on how to handle the situation but every time I’m at a standstill. I can’t seek out the cops and explain what Paolo mentioned and from what I’ve heard they are ruling it as an overdose with his medical and mental situation. He only had a short and painful time to live and had the medicine he used prescribed and available to spare himself more pain.

The casino isn’t completely legal. Hell, in the basement we have a secret underground section where we also have girls servicing every need of the main players. Police digging into everything is a knife that cuts both ways.

The threat of Paolo is real and submitting to it–marrying him–is out of the fucking question. But what is the other choice I have? Following in my mother and father’s footsteps? Father…another thing slicing through my thoughts at the reminder of meeting my biological one yesterday. That went awesome as well.

I stroll out of my room to get some coffee and scream my lungs out. Holy shit, how could I have forgotten the man who refused to leave my side and is sitting on the couch staring right at me?

My hand is over my heart and I grumble, “You scared the shit out of me.”

“Thanks. Being scary comes in handy sometimes,” he dryly replies. “It’s a quality of mine actually.”

I roll my eyes and take a step in the direction of the kitchen when I notice the coffee cups right next to a paper bag sitting on the table. “You went out to get us coffee?”

“Nah, I had a prospect pick it up when I asked him to bring me a change of clothes.”

I nod and take one, enjoying the bitter taste of what seems to be a double espresso. Releasing a deep sigh, I take a few more sips while I make my way to the couch to sit next to him, making sure to keep some distance between us.

“I finally get to see you without your jacket…and with a shirt on no less,” I muse.

The corner of his mouth twitches. “Stick around and I’m bound to dress up some more and get naked as well. I’m good like that.”

I roll my eyes for the second time this morning and feel a hint of a smile tug on my lips. I swallow hard at the realization of how this man manages to bring some laughter in a shitty situation.

It hits me hard and I find myself saying, “I don’t know what to do.”

“Take one breath at a time, handle shit as it comes, whatever keeps you sane.” He turns his body toward me and pinches my chin to guide my head and makes our eyes collide. “You might not accept or know how to handle it but I’m telling you…your father. And by this I mean the one who’s responsible for putting you in this fucked-up world. He has your back no matter what. It doesn’t matter if you two have a gap of many years to fill, you’re the president’s daughter. I don’t call you princess for nothing, darlin’. You are one and have a whole MC, along with every other chapter of Crimson Furor, filled with brothers who will lay their life down for you in the blink of an eye if needed.”

“No offense, but the whole world is filled with strangers and it all sounds perfect but…I don’t know any of you,” I confess and can’t help but wince at the harsh reality.

“None taken, princess. All I’m sayin’ is…give my prez a chance and you’ll see how big and strong your family is.”

“Family.” I jolt from the couch and head into the kitchen to shove my head into the refrigerator.

Grabbing a few eggs, bacon, and some veggies, I get my hands busy with making an omelet. Maccoy doesn’t say anything when he takes a seat at the counter while I start to chop the veggies. I’m not even hungry but I want something to distract my hands and mind.

The reminder of family, the loss and gain, shocks me to my core. Add everything else and I’m a complete mess. I’m not one to sob and curl up in a corner to cry. Though, I’m not ashamed to admit I’ve been crying for days in solitude since the loss of my mother.

She was ripped from me in the blink of an eye without the chance to say goodbye. With my father, the both of us knew it was coming but it shouldn’t have happened now or the way everything played out.

Maybe in the end a lot of his pain was spared but someone forced him to take an overdose. I’m sure and even more because Paolo told me straight to my face. The creepy part was also the way the video feed was cut off from his office. I heard some of the people say how he probably cut the feed himself, wanting to save me from seeing his final moments.

A hand covers mine. “Put down the knife, princess. The way you’re chopping I’ll be scraping your digits off the counter and bringing you to the ER instead of having breakfast.”

“I hate this,” I snap and whip my head his way. “I hate everything. Why the hell is this happening? Why now? Why did they force my father to kill himself when he was already dying? Why did my mother suddenly die?” Stone cold fear hits me when my brain hands me a twisted question and I force it over my lips. “Did they kill my mother too?”

“Babe.” He cups the side of my face. “Remember what I said about lying and asking questions?”

I swallow hard and know exactly what he means but my sanity has flown out the window and there’s nothing that can make this situation worse. I want the truth, certainly when it feels as if all my life everyone’s been lying.

“I’m asking,” I tell him and take a deep breath to steady myself for the truth he’s bound to give me.

  CHAPTER FOUR

  – MACCOY –

I drop the hand I was caressing her face with. All I want to do is fist her white silky hair and pull her close to dominate her mouth and take away the worry, hurt, and grief edged on her face. Instead, I keep my eyes on hers and give it to her straight.

“Last week your mother reached out to Alcide, completely out of the blue after years of no contact. And it’s as if the Devil himself had a part in this fucked-up scene…because he was in a meeting and didn’t have his phone on him so she left him a voicemail. By the time he listened to it? He received the news she was found dead. The message she left wasn’t much to go on but the things we know now? It makes more sense, like pieces of the puzzle falling into place. Prez had me reach out to Zalverni but he played it too cool for my liking so we have a few guys looking into everything that happened that day.”

“The day she slipped and fell in the shower. My fath–” She clears her throat. “He…they…they said it was an accident.”

“Seems that way but the toxicology report mentioned she had meds in her system that weren’t prescribed to her.” I watch her eyes go wide with surprise when I hit her with that little tidbit.

“My mother didn’t use any medicine, she was healthy as a horse. She didn’t even take a painkiller when she had a headache. Seriously, she would never–”

I hold up my hand. “No need to convince me, sweetness. We’re already digging up all the details we can find to get the one responsible.”

“So…it wasn’t an accident?” she asks and damn those gorgeous eyes.

“Afraid not. With everything we know now, I’d take a wild guess and think your mother reached out to Alcide to ask for help. Maybe she found out about the deal Zalverni made, who knows.”

Silence falls between us for a few heartbeats until she softly asks, “Is there a way I can listen to her message?”

“I’m sure Prez will share whatever you’re willing to see and hear. Hell, he might let you touch the photo albums.” I shake my head at the memory when I tell her, “He almost killed one of the hangarounds who wandered off into his room and he caught her reaching out to those fuckers on the shelf.”

“Hangarounds.” Her nose wrinkles. “I’ve heard the bikers in Canada mention those. Do you guys supply the ones we use in the basement too or do you have your own stash?”

The bark of laughter ripping from me is unexpected but it’s a welcome change at this moment.

“Our own stash? Nah, there are a few regulars who don’t mind sharing. Other chicks are one-night stands brothers pick up. Zalverni wanted a minimum business with us so we only handle the debt collecting part. We used to handle the underground casino in the basement as well as the girls. I assume you’re aware of everything because you mentioned our chapter handles everything in Canada.”

“Dozer isn’t the friendliest type but at least there’s no bullshit, no fuss, and he’s easy to deal with once you get to know him.” Her smile is genuine and I find myself becoming annoyed and angry.

It’s for this reason I snap, “Did you fuck him?”

She narrows her eyes but her lips stay silent.

“Well?” I urge and lean closer.

“Do you even know Dozer?” she fires back.

“What the fuck? That’s not a damn answer, throwing a question at a question,” I growl.

She rolls her eyes. “Dozer is twice your age. Wait. How old are you?”

“What the fuck does age have anything to do with it?”

She jabs her finger against my pecs. “Nothing. It’s just as useless as this discussion. I don’t owe you any explanation because it’s none of your business.”

“You’re the president’s daughter, sweet cheeks, you bet your fine ass you’re my business.” I shoot her a challenging smirk and make her aware of the fact, “No one is allowed to so much as touch you.”

Her cheeks turn pink but it’s not due to a blush kissing her skin. From the way her eyes narrow I’d say she’s angry as fuck.

“Let me guess, the whole ‘no one is allowed to touch her’ statement you threw out in the clubhouse was for all the others, creating a loophole for the one who said it.”

A sly grin slides across my face. “I knew you were too smart for your own good.”

“Dickhead,” she snaps and turns to continue to make an omelet.

“Now that it’s clear,” I start and open the cupboard beside her to grab plates.

She turns off the stove and points the spatula in my direction. “You might think it’s clear in your jumbled brain but the last few minutes of our conversation are completely irrelevant.”

“The fuck it is.” I place the plates on the counter and am ready to tell her it will be a cold day in hell before I let another man touch her pussy but we’re interrupted by someone knocking on the door.

I spin around to open the door but Delphine brushes past me. Fuck, she’s fast. A growl rumbles through my chest.

She whirls around before she opens the door and says, “Oh shush, I know who’s knocking, I’m not a complete idiot and unaware of the danger surrounding me.”

“Delphine, ma chouette,” an older woman with spiky, burgundy hair dashes into the room and pulls my woman into a hug.

Shit. She’s not my woman. Though, it was on the tip of my tongue to claim her as such when we were having the discussion before this woman came knocking on the door.

“Who are you?” I bite out and both women break apart.

“Rude,” the woman with the short hair snaps, and her eyes slide over me from head to toe. “Let me guess, this is the biker you mentioned.”

“Elodie, this is Maccoy. Maccoy, this here is Elodie Gagnon. She used to run the casino in Canada before me and semi-retired after she taught me everything she knew. She fully retired when I left.” Delphine places her hand over her heart and faces Elodie to add, “She’s my best friend and I consider her somewhat like my second mother. She wanted to relocate once she retired but she stayed in Canada to keep an eye on me.”

Elodie gives her a warm smile. “You know it. And now I’m here to help you for as long as you need me.”

Delphine gives her another hug and when she pulls back she tells her, “I’m going to make a few calls and set you up in the room next to mine. Then we’ll–”

“No such thing. I’ve already arranged the room and I’m going to do a walkthrough after I’ve dropped off my luggage. Now, can you handle the biker, or do you need me to kick his ass out the door?”

  “What the fuck?” I snap.

Elodie’s eyes slide to me and her damn nose wrinkles. “No fuck. Well, not with you anyway, boy. You’re way too young for my liking.” She shoots Delphine a wink. “He’s more your type.”

Delphine starts to sputter while I bark out a laugh. “I like her.”

  “Shut up,” Delphine grumbles.

Elodie leans in and places a kiss on Delphine’s cheek. “Don’t fight it, hun. You know the type as well as I do. Once they put their minds to something they will follow through and his mind? I can tell by the look in his eyes he wants to devour you whole so good luck with that.” She turns to the door but throws over her shoulder, “If you want my advice? Spread those legs wide and enjoy. The stuff you’re dealing with? You’re entitled to something good and the man looks like he knows how to handle his dick.”

  “Elodie,” Delphine gasps.

Elodie shrugs. “What? I would if I were your age or if the boy was older.” She shoots me a wink.

  “I can call my prez, he’s fifty-five,” I offer.

She turns while standing in the doorway and points a finger at me. “Now you’re talking, I like a man with power. Delphine, make sure–”

“Absolutely not,” Delphine starts to sputter but Elodie tsks her.

“He’s not my daddy now, is he?” Elodie lets the door fall shut behind her with those parting words.

  “I like her,” I repeat.

Delphine glares. “Sure you do. Wait till she kicks you in the balls, see how much you like her then.”

I bark out a laugh. “Don’t worry, darlin’, the first impression she gave me was enough for me to know I won’t be the one to cross her. Why do you think I offered to call my prez?”

  “About that.” She visibly swallows. “I don’t think…I don’t.”

Her shoulders sag and without thinking I reach out and pull her into a hug. “Don’t worry about anything. I only mentioned Prez because he never looked at another woman after your mother left. Doesn’t mean he’s a saint ’cause I’m pretty sure he got his dick wet but letting his heart get involved or sticking it in the same snatch twice? Fuck, no.”

Delphine pulls back. “Don’t be so crude.”

“What?” I chuckle. “Cunt, pussy, snatch, oyster, wet heat, I can think of many more names but it all comes down to the hidey-hole between your legs.”

She places her forehead against my chest and mutters, “You’re weird.”

“I’ve been called much worse, so I’ll take it,” I murmur and enjoy the feel of her fist gripping the fabric of my shirt. “Since we’re on the topic. Mind if we make a deal?”

She tips her head back. “A deal?”

“Yeah,” I whisper and stare into her gorgeous eyes. “I’d like to lick your pussy. One taste wasn’t enough and watching you come undone by riding my fingers made my dick feel cheated out of something that was his to claim. Basically, I want you, and not just for a one-time fuck either.”

Her lips part with the same longing as last night and there’s no holding back. I fist her hair and claim her mouth once more. Swooping in, I let my tongue find hers. I feel tingles down in my balls.

I might have years of fucking women behind me but the tingly feeling is different from the need to get off. It’s as if she’s lighting a stick of dynamite where she strikes a match, waiting till the spark lights the fuse and it’s a countdown from there on out.

I can only imagine how magnificent it will be to bury my dick inside her and start pounding until I’ve coated her insides with my cum. Yeah. Sounds like the best idea I’ve had in years, if not decades. All in good time, though.

I pull back and cup her face to keep our gaze connected. She has a dazed look on her face, but she blinks a few times as if to clear the lust haze we create as soon as we touch. Clearing her throat, she steps out of reach and starts to shake her head.

“I might want you too but I don’t think we’re on the same page here. We can’t simply have sex and be done; it will be awkward. Hell, I’ve learned from my mistakes and I won’t mix business with pleasure again. You being the one to handle the debt collecting part would mean we work together but also you being the vice president, your president being my…we can’t,” she firmly states.

“I had my fingers deep inside your pussy so we damn well can,” I growl, not liking her answer. Then her mentioning a mistake fuels my anger some more when I realize who she’s referring to. “Don’t compare me to that spineless scumbag.”

She releases a deep sigh. “Bickering back and forth isn’t going to change anything.”

She’s right and I have no clue how to change her mind other than to let her feel what she does to me. It’s why I step forward and take her face in my hands to slowly move in. She doesn’t fight me and her breathing picks up when I take her bottom lip and softly suck and nibble before kissing her deeply.

Throwing words around is indeed not going to change anything but this? There’s no denying a soul-deep connection. Unable to resist because I feel it too, deep down in my bones, what we have is different than a casual fuck. Knocking interrupts us once more and Delphine growls. Actually growls as she pulls away.

“Stay here, I’ll check,” I tell her and I stalk to the door to see who it is.

To my surprise it’s Elodie and she brushes past me as soon as I open the door.

“Things are going to shit the way diarrhea hits a sieve,” Elodie snaps and whirls around to face me. “Mind calling your Prez to ask if he can spare a few brothers?” Her head whips in Delphine’s direction. “Sorry, I don’t trust anyone working here and that Paolo dude thinks he can run the place.” She snorts. “Gonna be a cold Christmas in Hell for the fucker when I kick him in the balls to send him home. But before I can do that I’m gonna need some backup so I don’t get a knife in my back I won’t see coming. If you get my drift.”
