Bite, p.78
Bite, page 78
Growling Evan adds, “And that bitch knows why we’re here so she’s going to make sure that whatever she has planned goes through.”
I stand there helpless as it all hits me. Ursela has Mark and Tiffany, the college is going to be raided by a bunch of menacing vampires and we’re stuck in a dome of her black magic. Or to better sum it up, we’re completely fucked.
She’ll Bleed It Out!
(Sam)
It’s frustrating when Ursela constantly changes her plans but I understand it’s just to keep Charlie on his toes so the future remains unpredictable. We were first going to attack on Halloween but now it’s been moved to the day of a major football game at the school. Not only is the whole town going to be there but people are coming in from the city along with the visiting team and their families and friends as well. It’s going to be like a Thanksgiving feast. I could hardly wait.
Now with Ursela’s spell surrounding the house, Gina and her gang can’t stop us from invading the dorms and having a snack or two. The moment we entered the campus, chaos took over as people went screaming for the exits not knowing there was no place for them to escape. When I returned with the two humans, blood was splattered on the walls as the bodies began to pile up. The few humans that were selected to remain alive were brought to the basements of the dorms. The two humans I had were each tied up in separate rooms. They were going to have the privilege of meeting Ursela in person. They just better pray that they survive the introduction.
I go into the room where the blond is being held first to make sure she’s secured. When I enter, I see tears streaming down her face as she sits tied up on a bed. I walk over to her and when she sees me her face brightens a bit as she says, “Oh my god Sam. Please help me! Get me out of here!”
I try to remember her since she said my name. I try to pull up memories but everything remains black. I stare coldly at her as I ask, “How do you know me?”
Shock hits her eyes as she replies, “What? You’re kidding right? It’s me Sam. Tiffany, Gina’s best friend. Don’t you remember?”
The moment I hear her name, hazy visions fill my head but it’s still not totally clear. The only image I can see is her at a party where we’re all dressed up. But it isn’t enough for me to be one hundred percent sure. She looks at me frantically as she whispers, “Please say you remember me Sam and help me. You know you don’t want to hurt me. It wouldn’t just upset Gina but your brother too. I’m his human so you know he’ll be super pissed if something was to happen to me.”
I hear a slight hesitation in that last statement and I have a feeling there is more than what she’s telling me. I’m about to ask but the door opens and Ursela enters and quickly shuts the door. There is fresh blood dripping off her fangs but she studies Tiffany with a gleeful expression on her face.
“Tiffany Montclair it is a pleasure to meet you,” she says while giving a huge smile so her fangs are fully exposed.
Tiffany shudders a bit but she says in a low voice, “Let me go or you’ll be so sorry.”
Letting out a light chuckle Ursela responds, “Well that wasn’t very nice. Are we not making you very comfortable?”
“Go to hell you wicked bitch!”
Ursela is in front of her in an instant as my fangs pop out ready to defend her. She holds a hand up at me as she says, “Stand down Sam. Tiffany didn’t mean to be rude and she’ll change her tune. Especially when she hears what we have in store for her, she’ll think twice before speaking out of line again.”
Now fear is settling into Tiffany’s eyes as she asks, “What are you gonna do with me?”
Smiling Ursela replies, “Well nothing right now since you have Charlie’s scent all over you. Geez he really went overboard with his mark didn’t he? It’s almost making me dizzy.”
“If one more vampire tells me I stink, I swear to God I’m going to scream,” Tiffany mumbles under her breath.
“Oh don’t worry you won’t hear it for much longer. We’ll have to get that stench off you so we’re going to bleed you out a bit first so most of it will be gone and then I’ll do my thing and then his mark will be all gone. See, no more stench. Won’t that make you happy?”
Tiffany’s reaction startles both of us as she starts screaming and thrashing around in hopes that will loosen her ropes. Ursela just laughs as she exits the room but I remain as I watch her and I suddenly remember her. Her angry outburst throws my mind back to the beach when Charlie had to break up with her so Tiffany would have been safe. Her anger was in full rage after the way my brother…
My brother. My mind seems to be a bit clearer as I start to remember Charlie again and I know Tiffany is the one he loves. I rush over to her where she screams some more and I realize my fangs are still exposed. I pull them back into my gums as I say, “Tiffany it’s okay. I’m not going to hurt you.”
She settles down while staring at me and hesitantly she whispers, “Sam?”
“Yes. How did you get here?”
“You along with a few others kidnapped me and brought me here.” She sees the confusion on my face as she asks, “You don’t remember?”
I shake my head as I reply, “Are you hurt?”
“No I’m okay for now. Sam, she just said she’s going to bleed me out. She is going to get rid of Charlie’s mark.”
Puzzled I say, “That’s impossible. There’s only one way to get rid of it and she wants Charlie alive.”
“Well she said something about letting me bleed out a bit so the mark can disappear and then she’ll do her thing and it’ll be over.”
I give it some thought and I knew that would be the perfect time for my brother to get here. He would see her bleeding from many bite marks and he’ll have no choice but to surrender to us. Looking at this human, she thinks I’m on her side so I decide to pretend to give her hope so she’ll think she’ll actually live through this. I know I can only do so much so no one would get suspicious. I will have to protect her for as long as I can since Ursela knows how to remove a vampire’s mark. To keep with the charade I look at her intensely as I say, “Tiffany, I need you to call to Charlie. Your mark bonds you two so you have to try to reach him and let him know the situation. He’s has to find a way to get here and fast because you don’t have much time. Call him.”
“I don’t know if he’ll hear me,” she says with fresh tears beginning to fall.
“Tiffany he will hear you. Just do it.”
She begins to sob again and I see she is going to be difficult about this so I do the only thing I could think of. I let my fangs come out again as I roughly grab her face. I let out a snarl as I bark, “Do it now!”
And without me having to say it again she wails as she screams, “Charlie!”
No One Puts Angel in a Corner
(Charlie)
I hear her voice echo in my mind and I growl as I see my brother menacingly leaning over her. I have to keep reminding myself that as long as she’s marked, they can’t touch her. But that doesn’t mean what I’m seeing isn’t pissing me off.
I suddenly see one of my visions and it’s now the first vision I saw where it shows Tiffany with Ursela and her dagger. She cuts her wrists so blood begins to pour out and before she’s almost bled out, Ursela bites her and then…
“Gina you have to break us out now! Time is running out and Tiffany is going to die,” I holler with urgency.
With desperation in her eyes Gina replies, “I’m trying but I can’t. This shield has way too much magic on it. I can’t find any way around it.”
“Well you’re going to have to think of something!”
“I’m trying Charlie so get off my back for a moment!”
I see her frustration which matches mine and I sigh as I collapse on a lawn chair. I stare up at the shield as its light pink glow continues to taunt us. Ursela is going to make sure we don’t interfere with her plans and now that it includes Tiffany dying in her arms, I want to scream. I need to get to her and fast.
David walks over to Gina and he quietly says, “Kiddo, you can do this. You’re telekinetic remember? You just have to focus hard enough to put this shield down.”
Defeat in her eyes she responds, “I know and I’ve been trying to but it’s just too hard.”
Tears begin to well up in her eyes and anger comes out in his voice as David snaps, “No way kiddo, don’t you dare! Not one fucking tear better fall from your eyes because crying isn’t going to do shit! You better toughen up because things are not always going to be easy kiddo. We need a leader to step up and who won’t quit or start crying like a baby when shit is about to hit the fan! You said you’ll be our queen so you better start acting like one.”
“Ease up there Sparky. Yelling at her is not going to make Gina do anything,” Diane retorts with her arms folded.
He grunts as he says, “Well excuse me Curly Sue but I think us vampires would like a queen that wasn’t so damn wimpy.”
I look over at Gina because I feel her anger beginning to soar and I calmly warn, “David, I would back off if I were you.”
“Why? Is Gina going to scream again? Ooooo I’m so scared.”
She doesn’t scream but instead a surge of energy bounces off her and David goes flying into the house. We hear a crash and I cringe at what is broken now. I swear Ursela is going to have to write me a huge check to replace everything that is broken by the time this is over. But watching Gina, I can’t help but smirk as I say, “Now that’s how a queen shuts someone up.”
Harry rushes over to her and says, “Sweetheart that was it. That’s what you have to use, your anger.”
I glance over at Jack and Alex whose attention is turned to the shield. I go over to them and softly say, “What is it?”
Jack smiles as he replies, “Her anger definitely did something because look. I mean really look at it.”
I do as he says and I notice that the glow of the shield did in fact fade a little bit. But looking at the trees that are outside the shield, I see five vampires with glowing green eyes standing guard. JoJo growls when she sees them and says, “Those are good fighters so before her Highness destroys this thing, we better come up with a plan.”
Coming up behind us Evan adds, “Yes because after we kick their asses, we’re going to want to keep going until we get to Ursela.”
“I agree,” I respond while glaring at the waiting vampires.
We huddle together to formulate a plan and after ignoring David’s suggestion of just running in and kicking anything that gets in our way, we finally come up with an idea despite Gina’s objections. Well I can’t blame her since it involves her friends.
“Gina I’m telling you it makes perfect sense,” Steve says. “Ursela knows you’re gonna hide us so us showing up right in her face will definitely throw her off.”
Diane and Amber nod as Rob says, “I swear to you your Highness that JoJo, Harry and I won’t let any harm come to them. We can keep them safe.”
“We’ll be fine Gina,” Amber says.
I smile as I say, “Steve, we’re going to need you to draw us a layout of the school and the football stadium.”
He shrugs as he says, “Sure I’ll do what I can. I’m not much of an artist so no laughing okay?”
Joseph hands him paper and a pencil and Steve proceeds to draw (very badly by the way) an outline of the school and field. He shows how everything is set up for the games and where all the exits are. He points out one section and says, “This is the way the visiting teams come in so this will be our best bet for entry. That way once she sees us, Gina can swoop in while we run out to the parking lot and disappear. If any vampires follow, you three can stand on the little ledge over the exit and take them by surprise.”
“Sounds good to me,” Rob says with a little excitement in his voice.
“Okay, sounds like we have a plan. Are we ready to do this,” David asks.
Evan, already pumped, replies, “Hell yeah.”
“What about you humans? Think y’all are ready for this?”
Giving a smirk, Diane emerges from the house carrying three pieces of wood. She hands one to Amber and Steve and then proceeds to show them the best way to use them by moving her arm in a motion so she’s stabbing the air in front of her. Once they understand, she smiles as she responds, “Oh yes. We are so ready.”
After I stare at the five vampires waiting, I hiss while glaring at the shield, “Sis, will you please get us out of here?”
Gina stares up at the shield while trying to figure out how she affected it before. David walks up next to her and says, “Okay kiddo, take all your anger and frustration and uses that energy to break through this shit. You can do it kiddo.”
She nods but I feel defeat radiating off her. I can’t let Gina give up so easily so I decide to feed her anger. I tap into the memory of Tiffany being held by Ursela and I show Gina the images of Sam towering over her and my future vision of her wrists bleeding out as Ursela laughs waiting for the right moment where she can bite her. As she watches, I feel Gina’s anger building and the energy around her starts to send this vibration throughout the shield. I send one more image of Ursela killing Mark by biting him on the neck and him screaming out in agony (okay I might have made up the last one but desperate times calls for desperate measures) and that is all Gina can take. She takes a deep breath and then lets out a piercing scream but none of us feel it as she has centered only on the shield. It vibrates for a moment and then shatters as if it is made of glass. All of us stare in awe while the pieces rain down around us as Alex whispers, “Out of sight.”
We only have a second to admire the broken shield because the waiting vampires are charging at us. Amber lets out a mild scream but Harry just yells, “Charlie do you mind?”
I smirk and we start running forward as I easily burn them up. Why waste energy fighting now when we have a bigger battle to face.
With a human on Rob, David and Harry’s back, we race to the college and reach it in under a minute. JoJo takes Diane off David’s back and then heads over to the field while the rest of us survey the area. Over by one of the dorms there is a pile of bodies of some of the students and faculty that almost reaches the second floor. Every now and then we hear a faint scream as another human meets their death and we know the attack on the school is in full swing. Growling Gina hisses, “This ends now.”
One Human Seasoned In Garlic Please
(Sam)
I walk into another room and I find the male human also tied to a bed. Just like Tiffany, his eyes light up when I enter the room but at least this time I already remember who he is. And just like with the girl, I’ll have to keep playing the pretend game.
“Sam, thank God you’re here man.”
I eye him cautiously as I ask, “Are you hurt?”
He shakes his head as he responds, “No I’m good. Where the hell am I?”
“You’re at the school.”
“How did I get here?”
Looking in his mind, he really didn’t remember what happened when Ursela used the venom from his mark to hypnotize him and made him hand Tiffany over to me. The poor sucker has no idea that this can be done to him any time Ursela wants and he is powerless to stop it. That makes him dangerous to Gina but for us, a possible ally.
“You really don’t remember huh,” I ask and after he shakes his head I say, “It doesn’t matter now. Ursela will be here soon and you have her venom so watch what you do or say. Ursela can bite you if she chooses so you don’t want to do anything that’ll piss her off. But I still don’t understand how you ended up with her venom in the first place.”
Mark stares at me with a sheepish grin as he responds, “Well Gina marked me by accident.”
“By accident,” I nearly cry out in shock. I run a hand through my hair as I mumble, “That doesn’t make any sense. She should have known the danger it would put you in. Why on earth did Gina mark you?”
With his nerves rattled Mark replies in a hurried tone, “It was a big mix up. Vampires came, a fight broke out and I got in the way. You know typical stuff.”
I grin as he nervously laughs. “Well I don’t think you should tell it quite like that because I doubt Ursela will accept that it was a mix up.”
“Why not just get me outta here and then we won’t have to explain anything to her.”
Now I have to play this cool because I need to make Mark understand that he can’t leave without me scaring him or learning my true intentions. I have to make him understand why he must stay so I shake my head, as I say, “No because then her reaction will be ten times worse. We need to keep you here so she won’t be the wiser about whatever Gina’s is going to do. I’ll keep you safe for as long as I can but for now just do as you’re told.”
He is about to comment further but I hold up my hand to silence him as the door opens and she enters. Mark trembles a little at the sight of Ursela but she gives one of her biggest smiles as she says, “Mark Jensen, it is wonderful to finally meet you.”
“Really? I didn’t realize I was famous,” he responds dryly while trying to steady his nerves.
“Yes you are. You are good friends with a most annoying wannabe queen and now that you’re here, you’re going to help me find out what exactly makes Gina tick.”
He quickly glances at me but then he swallows hard as he says, “No offense but I’m not telling you shit.”
“Oh I highly doubt that.”
Instantly she waves her hand at him and Mark slowly rises off the bed as the ropes become undone. Once they fall from him, she begins to make a fist and he starts wincing in pain as I see a faint yellow glow surround him. Her magic on us vampires is of course unbearable but because of our makeup, we can take it. But on a human, the pain reaches a level that cannot be measured so I can only imagine how bad it must be for Mark. But no matter how much she induces the pain, he never lets out one scream. I admire him for his bravery.
