part #1 of Chronicle of Lightning Series
Whoosh-whoosh-whoosh! Their bodies soon after blurring as they utilized a variety of strange movements based on their elemental affinities, the majority of them being that of wind...
Swooosh! Not long after, a gentle gust of wind blew by this area, carrying along with it the graceful form of a pale-faced beauty.
"Cough... my strength is too exhausted, even though I was forced to stop an recover for a short while it's not enough to prevent what my son has now become... what happened to him? What must I do to allow him to recover?" Her thoughts filled with chaos as the wind carried her body towards his location at immense speeds, easily bypassing the chasing villagers who didn't even notice her presence, as they bravely charged forwards to witness a scene they will never forget...
Chapter 24
A Deadly Chase! Fen Hua’s Shock?
It was a tense night within the flaming wilds of the Enchanted Grove, the colorful sparks from the surrounding fires giving further life to an already bleak atmosphere, as the rustling wind scattered the scorching flames making them appear to be dancing about the fields. Within this scene, there was a dreadful pursuit, a handsome but somewhat pale looking youth charging forwards with an indomitable spirit as he agilely moved thought the flaming forest.
Behind him was a small blue haired figure in rapid pursuit, his radiant blue hair flickering with lighting elemental energies as tore he through the sky like a flash of lightning with a savage expression lingered on his face.
Although he wasn’t as fast as actual lightning, his speed when compared to lesser stage Elemental Practitioners was almost comparable to it from their perspective, his tiny form now rapidly gaining on the figure of the fleeing youth before him.
"Raaah!" With a loud and cruel shout, the beserk Dai Lin struck one of his palms forwards as he flew through the air, not long after a streak of thunderbolt shot from his palms aiming towards the head of the fleeing Jin Yingjun.
As if he didn't felt the danger, Jin Yingjun continued to glide forwards at high speeds, but no matter how fast he traveled he simply was no match for the bolts of blue lightning.
Bam! They soon after collided with his body carrying him towards the ground before smashing him into the earth with an explosion. The resulting shockwave pushing back the flames from this region for a few dozen meters leaving it devoided of their fury, the berserk Dai Lin seeing this smiled in satisfaction as if he achieve a great victory, but his expression didn't take long to change as he noticed something from the corners of his deep red eyes.
Swish! The figure of Jin Yingjun rapidly fleeing towards another direction completely unharmed from his previous attack. Dai Lin seeing this didn’t even bother to try and reason out what was wrong, and even if he were to try in his current state he wouldn’t be able to do so, his body once more flickered as he rapildy pursued.
Looking at the scene below in the crater formed by his previous attack one would notice a strange scene, the mangled pieces of flesh that belonged to Jin Yingjun had began to disperse like the wind as it faded away towards his currently fleeing self.
"Cough!" The fleeing Jin Yingjun now spitting out a bit of blood as his face became pale with beads of sweat flowing down his forehead.
"Damn! I had to use that one life-saving element orb father gave me. If he were to attack once again I'll be finished, what do I do? I need to find her and get out of here..." He thought to himself frantically as he sensed the raging thunderous energies that were rapidly approaching him from behind once more.
Swoosh! It didn't take long for Dai Lin to appear within his vicinity with his arms ready to launch another sure kill attack.
"I have to think! There must be a way to find her!" Jin Yingjun thought to himself, as his blurry form swished across the trees and shrubberies jumping from a tall branch to another. His eyes filled with panic as he scanned the environment before him in detail. Yet, his attempts of salvation was a futile act for in the face of great strenght their is nothing one can do to prevent it.
"Raaah!"The savage shout of Dai Lin once more ensued as an even bigger bolt of lightning struck towards Jin Yingjun, a bolt no thicker than a person's waist that illuminated the surronding regions with its dazzling hue.
As he felt this familiar change and saw the scene around him change color it was at this time Jin Yingjun knew he was at his end, he gritted his teeth and prepared to close his eyes in acceptance while thinking, "Meigui... it was short, but I do so hope that if there is a next life... I'll be with you..."
The instant he thought to here the dazzling thunderbolt was right about to arrive, his eyes that were just about closing had unconsously glanced towards his side gazing at region in the distance that remained unaffected by the forest flames. It was as if that region was surrounded by this enormous ring of fire that had grown and expanded beyond the forests outskirts.
He didn't think much of the area as all of his thoughts were now hung up on regret and preparations to face his next life, but the moment he noticed a familiar but bloody looking figure the look on his face changed as his eyes went wide in shock.
"Mei--" He tried to call out towards her but before he could do anything, the bolts of heaven had already descended, along with the voice of a woman.
"Little Dai, stop!" The voice said, but even after it sounded nothing much changed.
Bang! A terrifying explosion soon after erupted in this area, this explosion was even more immense than the previous as not only did it send shockwaves across the area, scores of dense lightning energies and wind energies scattered about wildly as it decimated all things for a few hundred meters.
"Ahh!" The pitiful voice of Jin Yingjun sounded as his body was blasted forward by the force of this collision, despite having a strange greenish barrier of wind around his body all of sudden.
Swish! His body soared across the remainder of the ring of fire crashing directly inside of the voided zone filled with black earth and scorched trees, his body slightly buried underneath a pile of rubble and ash in a seriously injured state.
Much like him, a few other unlucky fellows who were previously in rapid pursuit was not lucky enough to avoid this wave of energies, they were each blown backward towards distant places, the lucky amongst them smashing into the tall trees with the worst of them falling into the dense sea of fire.
"Ouwaah!" One man screamed as he was instantly engulfed by the sea of flames that quickly burnt away at his flesh turning him into a pile of bones.
"Oh no! Everyone back up, that demon is too strong..." One of the stronger individuals said as his body twirled skillfully mitigating the pressures of the shockwaves as he landed on top of a tree.
The others who were amongst the strongest of the pursuing group finally nodded in agreement as they retreated into the tops of tall trees and carefully observed the situation.
The scene before them was a unique one, for another patch of blank land had formed due to the fires being abruptly blown out by the previous shockwave. Two figures now stood at the epicenter of this region, one tall and one small, a slender beauty at the peak of womanhood garbed in purple robes with gentle flowing hair, gazed at the now exposed blue-haired monster that stood before her with a complex look in her eyes.
"Cough! That... isn't that..." One of the injured villagers ushered in shock as he pointed one of his fingers towards the previously perceived monster.
"It's that brat! The one from last year! What the hell is going on here?!" Another individual exclaimed in surprise as he looked at Dai Lin in terror.
"Impossible, there is no way it can be him... wouldn't that mean that a child at his age is capable of crushing us adults with a wave of his hand? I refuse to accept this!" One other individual said in discontent while looking at the scene before him unbelievingly.
"This isn't the time to be expressing one sided ideals, there is no doubt that the monster before our eyes is that demonic brat and the one in front of him is none other than the previous Second Ranker of the Myriad Tower Trials. We must get out of here right now, for the shockwaves are already far too dangerous for us to bear..." As the man said this, he quickly jump backwards distancing himself asway from this area.
"Che! If it wasn't for that bitch none of this would have happened, that brat is the curse of these lands..." The other man said grittlingly as he also rapidly fleed, all other villagers promptly following along with their motions.
Not long after their retreat, the area had become a scene of silence as both Fen Hua and the berserk Dai Lin stared into the eyes of each other quietly.
"My son... come to mother, tell me what happened to you. Where is your aunt? How did you get like this?" Fen Hua asked in a soft and gentle tone while slowly moving forward with her arms held out, a few streams of tears pouring down the corners of her eyelids.
The beserk Dai Lin seemed to have been roused by these words as his deep red eyes had started to fade by a small degree, his arms slightly trembling as his eyes showed traces of teardrops.
"Dai… calm down, mother is here to help you..." Fen Hua said once more with a sad look in her eyes, she didn't know what could have possibly made Dai Lin entered such a state.
Dai Lin had already fallen over onto the ground he looked towards her dazedly with tears in his eyes, unable to speak a word as his berserk state had yet to fully fade.
Within his consciousness, in a place that was unknown stood the strange figure clad by dark robes, his eyes flashing in a strange light as he spoke in a tone of annoyance, "Tsk! How troublesome... yet another interference. He was just about ready to achieve an accelerated awakening, but simply because of her words, or rather her voice, he has once again become stable regaining a bit of his clarity..."
He looked at the scene occurring outside and saw that Dai Lin was now slumped down on the ground with his arms gripping the ashes as his tears flowed down his cheeks, he frowned as he couldn't help but glance towards the woman that pulled him out of his berserk state.
"This cannot do, I cannot have my plans fail yet again. It took me a lot of effort to hoodwink those foolish puppets who guard the tower, and even more so in the effort to convince that ‘Bird.’ No matter who it is I shall not have you interfering with my plans today!" As he said this, he noticed Fen Hua's appearance and couldn't help but knit his brows as he felt something was off about her.
After a short while of pondering his eyes flashed once more in a cunning light as he spoke, "Oh, so it was you... that brat from that year. The little girl who suffered from that ‘deviant blood,’ she's managed to tame it quite well and if these were the times of old, she would have truly been a genius who could startle the heavens. Heh, but its a pity, no matter how hard you try to suppress your true nature it will always lie at your core..."
Upon saying this, his eyes glanced towards the location of the unconscious Jin Yingjun whose hand was held before him as if he was pointing towards someone. It was at this point a cruel smile rose at the corner of this man’s lips, as the dazed Dai Lin seemed to have mimicked his movements casting his eyes towards that location instantly identifying the familiar form that laid on the ground in a pool of blood.
As Dai Lin saw this scene once again, his rapidly soothing mind seemed to have snapped again as both of his tiny arms grabbed onto his forehead while he trembled and wailed in pain.
"Ahhh!” He yelled in a chaotic fashion as his thunderous energies exploded, scattering snakes of blue thunders around his form.
"Oh no not again! I thought he was calming down, what do I do? If he continues like this he will only suffer from an early awakening. What is stimulating h--?" Fen Hua was now at a loss of what to do when she saw Dai Lin's sudden outburst, she wanted to rush forwards and pick up him into her embrace but before she could even do that her eyes had inadvertently wandered towards the direction he had looked.
There she saw one of the most important persons in her life, laying on the ground lifelessly in a pool of blood, as she saw this scene her mind went blank as her mouth opened as if to speak but couldn't say any words, her eyes now flowing with rich tears as a slight redness had begun to form.
"My sister... my beloved sister...” Her thoughts ushered in a desolate tone, as her mind had left this realm in a sea of memories...
Chapter 25
Deviant Blood? A Battle of Two Devils!
There was a time when all she had was nothing more than her family, a lonely but fulfilled girl whose blessings were far beyond that of the others. She was a unique breed, a diamond amount jewels, a cut that was far above the usual earthliness of man. Her family was rather high class, belonging to the top upper echelons of the Central Stormlands, although her parents were not very strong, they had been recognized by the Central Tower’s Proxies as prodigies by their intellect, aiding those very beings themselves who've watched over this world in a variety of research for the betterhood of all who lived in the domain.
Yet, despite her blessings, she was prone to suffer from its curse, unable to quell the sporadic flarings of her inherent nature, this nature was akin to something of a unique trait, a trait that was termed as - the Deviant Blood.
This was a very rare and ancient trait said to have been gifted to only a few rare chosen among Elemental Practitioners in the distant past, it is a blessing which is capable of enhancing not only ones combat abilities but also their overal capabilities, such as one’s perception, natural senses and instincts. But sadly, these perks has their downsides, for despite allowing one to have such immense benefits, it was at the cost of a curse; a curse to be unable to control ones own innate desires as the very slightest shift in emotions could cause them to transform, becoming a demon whose rage will not quell in the slightest.
Knowing this, this girl’s parents began to search for a cure without rest, they fought hard and long to find ways to heal her but nothing they did or found could have been used to aid her. Eventually, they had both given up as they'd given birth to another child, a curious newborn who was even more gifted than that sister of hers, with the plus side being that she had no such curse. It was supposed to have been a blessing from the struggles of their previous daughter's problems, but before they could even enjoy this life there came a change and with this change their very end...
"Cough... " The sound of a light coughing resounded across a bloody room, with torn pieces of mangled flesh and destroyed pieces of furniture scattered about in a messy and bloody manner.
If one looked closely, they would notice at the center of this room were four figures, two of them were lying down within a pool of their own blood, their faces dead pale as the woman amongst them held onto a newborn girl child with every fiber of her being while the man had already lost all signs of life. The last figure was that of a small ten-year-old child whose eyes were filled with tears, her hands and mouth covered in blood as she kneeled before the two while crying.
"Mother! Father! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!!! Uwaah!!" She screamed as her unusually set of deep red eyes had quickly begun to fade into their normal color.
The dying woman looked at her daughter with a complex look in her eyes as she had no idea how to comfort her pain, after a short while the mother coughed out a bit of blood as she gently stretched one of her palms forwards to touch her face.
"My... dear... daughter... do not cry, for it is not a bidding of your own will. Cough! There... there was nothing… that could've been done, your father as much as I… will forever understand. Maybe… it was simply a will of fate..." As she spoke to here, a few clear streams of tears started to flow from her cheeks as she gently stroked the corner of Fen Hua's face.
"If there... is one thing that I will surely regret... then it would be the fact that I won't be able to fulfill a mothers longing... the wish to see what you'd both grow to become..." She said as she looked at Fen Hua with a sad look on her face before she glanced at the sleeping Fen Meigui that she tightly clutched in her next arm.
As she said this, her eyes soon started to grow blurry as she was beginning to lose focus on the things around her, feeling this change she knew that she was approaching that time, she gave Fen Meigui that was bundled in her arms one last look before she lifted her head and faced the crying Fen Hua.
"Daughter... I do not have… much time… as such, I… I want you to promise me..." She said with her trembling arms gently lifting Fen Meigui up to hand over to Fen Hua.
"But mother I can't, I... I am too dangerous! It's my fault, my fault that you're both--"As Fen Hua was about to reject the idea, she was quickly interrupted by her mother who placed one of her fingers on her lips.
"Shh... it's alright, all you need… is to promise me… this very last wish..." She said while gazing into her eyes with a loving smile.
Fen Hua seeing this could only obediently nod her head as her tears once more poured down betraying her submissive will. The woman once more spoke with faded eyes, "Pro… promise me that you will never give up… never give in to your inner drives… and most importantly, never… never bring harm… to those that mean the world to you. My dear daughter... from now on... you must protect… protect... your... s...i...s...t...e...r..."
The instant she said this, her eyes began to close as her hands had started to fall towards the ground. Fen Hua seeing this promptly reacted by grabbing onto the sleeping Fen Meigui before she used her other blood filled palms to grab onto her mother’s hand. She felt the pulse of her mother rapidly fading away and knew that this couldn't be changed, quickly she looked at her mother's face and replied with all her might, "Mother I promise! I will never lose to myself, I will forever remember my mistakes, never betray your desire, for my sister is my life and I shall protect her to the end of time!"
Although the woman couldn't hear her words, and her vision had mostly faded, the warmth from her daughter's hand made her feel a sense of satisfaction, she knew in her heart that her daughter had made the promise and with that, she had freely accepted her fate no longer willing to cling to an already fateless life. She had died, descending into the realm of the unknown, onwards to be reborn in a distant universe from the endless cycle of the samsara.
