I moved away from Kale and squeezed through the men in the dining room. I went into the kitchen and wet a hand towel in the sink. When I went back into the dining room I pushed my way through to the other side of the table so I could stand beside John’s head.

“All of you guys, clear the room for just a little bit, please. Go on outside or in the living room. Somewhere.” None of them men moved an inch. “Out!”

When I yelled they all jumped and most of them started filing into the living room. I looked up to see Jenna standing on the other side of the table next to Smokey. Kale was behind Stoffer, staring down at John.

“Jenna, honey, go into our room and take a shower. Use my shampoo and stuff. You can look through everything in there and find you something clean to wear.” Jenna didn’t move at my words until Smokey nudged her toward the living room. I looked down at the man who was working on John. “What can I do to help you?”

  “You already did.”

I folded the towel and wiped the sweat off John’s face. Once that was finished I put my hand on the top of his head and rubbed his hair back over and over again, trying to calm him. I didn’t want to say anything that might make him feel like I was babying him, but what I really wanted to do was baby him. The man had been shot for Christ’s sake.

“Can I have a drink of water?” John asked softly as he turned his head my way.

“Of course. Mattie, how about you?” I looked over and Mattie was nodding his head. I walked into the kitchen and got three water bottles out of the refrigerator and got another wet washcloth for Mattie.

When I went back into the dining room I opened Mattie’s bottle and handed it to him. I sat an unopened bottle of water down in front of Stoffer and he nodded his thanks. I opened John’s water and held it so he could turn his head and drink. He muttered his thank you’s and then looked back up at the ceiling. By the time I was finished, Kale was walking back into the kitchen with a large stack of towels. He put them on the bar and handed one to Stoffer.

“Stache, can you take Mattie over to the sink and wash his arm, please? Wash your hands with soap and then get a pair of gloves out of that box in my bag. Just clean around the wound and get the rest of that blood off his arm. I’ll be over there to look at it as soon as I get John here taken care of.”

I moved to follow directions and Mattie stood up from his chair. I turned to look at Kale and he was watching me move around. I walked over to him and put my arms around him.

“I’m sure you need to get with your brothers and rally the troops, babe. I promise to stay inside with these guys and Jenna, so you can feel okay leaving me alone. If you’d like to leave me a gun, I would appreciate that too. If not, I can make do with the things around me.”

I smiled at him, hoping he would laugh at my joke. His facial expression didn’t change at all.

Kale leaned down and kissed me softly. He pulled back and looked deep into my eyes. “Are you really okay, babe?”

“I’m fine. Once everything around here calms down I’m probably going to lose it for a little while. I still have to pee though. Come get me when you’re done. Did someone think to call your Mom?”

“The men that stayed behind with her and Brenda are bringing them out now. I’m going to leave Rolo with you. Leon will come with me.”

Kale reached up and pulled a metal box off the top of the hutch beside us. He opened it and pulled out a pistol. He handed it to me and then leaned down to kiss me again.

I took a step back and opened the gun up to check that it was loaded before I sat it on the bar beside where I would be working with Mattie.

I leaned in for one more kiss and patted Kale on the chest. “Take your time. I’ll be in here if you need me.”

Kale just stared into my eyes for a second and then shook his head. He touched his forehead to mine and then let me go as he turned to walk away.

  TERRA

It had been three weeks since the shootout in our garage. In those three weeks I had spent every waking moment with Kale by my side. I had never been part of ‘a couple’ before, but even I knew that it was a little too much togetherness.

For the first week we had camped out at the house, having sex in every known position and maybe even inventing a few. We went to work at the club and came home and had more sex. That first week was when I met his roommate, Kate, who lived upstairs. She thought we were still in bed, so she came into the kitchen to fix a cup of coffee and found us naked on the dining room table. I was mortified but she handled it like it was nothing. She grabbed a cup, poured her coffee and said, “Carry on, kids.” as she walked back out of the room. So, we did.

The next week was more sex, more work and a few movie marathons thrown in there. Kale and I worked out together on the gym equipment in the garage every day, and I had even convinced him to try a few yoga poses with me, rather than just have him sit to the side and watch me like a perv. We had been over to see the baby a few times and even had dinner at his parents’ house twice. We played board games one afternoon and he took all of my Monopoly money. I was pretty sure he cheated somehow, and I told him so multiple times.

This week had been lots of sex, and a whole lot of arguing in between. He was aching to get out there and find the person that had sent those men to our house. He wanted me to go stay at his parents, or stay at the clubhouse, or go to Alaska to see my property. Anything to get me out of his hair so he could go and do manly things.

With his company twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week I knew more about Kale than most people learned in the first six months of dating. The majority of the things I had learned about him, I loved. There was a little bit, I’d say about ten percent, that made me crazy enough to pull out my own hair and run screaming down the street.

Right now, he was working on that ten percent. The crazy meter was creeping up close to the high nineties. Total red zone.

“You can stomp around all you want, I’m not going to let you lock me in the clubhouse.”

Kale stomped back across the living room to stand in front of the couch I was sitting on, Merlin sitting on my hand snuggled up between my breasts. I was wearing one of Kale’s t-shirts and a pair of panties. I had been showering when Kale appeared in the bathroom to tell me he had packed my suitcase and was taking me to stay at the clubhouse ‘for a while.’ I had thrown on the first clothing items I could find right before I unpacked my suitcase.

And then the fight was on.

“Woman. It’s not a matter of ‘let me’ do anything. I’m doing this for your safety.” He used air quotes around the words ‘let me’. Again. My eyes rolled so far back in my head I felt dizzy for a second. Or maybe that was my blood pressure.

“I understand that but for my sanity, I’m saying no. And don’t say woman like that. You make it sound like I’m a puppy.”

“Woman!” Kale stomped off again, this time into the bedroom, probably to repack the suitcase I had just emptied.

“If you pack my shit again, Kale, I’m going to take the damn suitcase and walk my ass to town and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it. I’ll find a bus or something and go someplace that’s not as hot as the third ring of hell and sit in the fucking rain until I prune up like a raisin.” I said very calmly, right before I lost my mind and screamed at the top of my lungs, “And stop fucking calling me woman!”

He stomped back into the living room and stood at the end of the couch. I could tell that he was trying very hard to be civil. He had his lips pulled in between his teeth and was breathing heavily through his nose. He wanted to fight? Oh, well, okay. I could muster one up for him.

Merlin must have sensed the impending storm because he took flight for the safety of his perch.

I stood up and stomped over to Kale, exaggerating every step so that it made the same hollow sound his boots had been for the last hour. When I got about three steps away from him I put my finger up and pointed at him.

“You are acting like a cave man. You and I both know I can defend myself. I don’t even really need to know how to defend myself because you’ve been so far up my ass for the last three weeks that when I opened my mouth in front of the mirror this morning you could see my fucking reflection.” I poked him in the chest so hard it hurt my finger. “I love you so much, but you are such a fucking asshole when you don’t get your way, Kale. I want to smack you in the fucking head with a frying pan just to get some peace.”

  “You what?”

“I didn’t stutter, motherfucker.” I poked him in the chest again, this time even harder. “I know you heard me.”

  “Say it again.”

“I’m not gonna say it again. I’m getting the fucking frying pan right now.” I spun around and stomped to the kitchen. I could hear his heavy boots following me. He better not call my bluff because right now I could do some major violence.

I was trying so hard to be a grown up and walk away until we both cooled down. I decided to take a page from my Dad’s book and go outside and watch the birds for a little bit to absorb some of their peace. Maybe I would even do a rain dance. Or play in the sprinkler with the damn dogs. I was muttering under my breath as I reached for the handle of the sliding glass door.

“Wait a minute.” Kale put his hand on my arm and held on to it. His grip wasn’t hard but that wasn’t what mattered. I closed my eyes and took a deep, calming breath. I was not going to yank my arm away and turn around and punch his beautiful face. I was not. “What you said before. Before you threatened to knock me stupid.”

I started muttering about how it wouldn’t take much of a hit to get him there and then I opened my eyes to look up at him. All traces of anger were gone from his face and he looked stunned.

What had I said that freaked him out so bad? He knew I wasn’t really going to hit him with a frying pan, didn’t he?

He smiled down at me and I saw both of his gorgeous dimples show up. Now I knew he was fucking crazy. Stomping around like a pissed off dinosaur with a splinter in its foot one second and now he was grinning like he won the lottery.

“What the fuck is wrong with you, Kale? Let me go outside and calm down for a minute and we’ll try this shit again.”

  “You said you love me.”

  Oh. I did say that.

  “Well, yeah.”

  “So, you love me.”

“Yeah.” The frying pan was still an option. “Are you laughing at me because I said that?”

  “Nope.”

We stood there staring at each other for a minute. He had a dopey smile on his face and it was making my anger fade. How could I be mad at such cuteness?

“You’re really hot when you’re mad.” And with that, his cute went away and I was back to plotting his death.

“Kale.” I took a deep breath and closed my eyes for a second. “I’m gonna need you to….”

I didn’t get to finish my sentence because his mouth was on mine. His arms were wrapped around me, his hands on my ass, pulling me up to him. I threw my arms around his neck and wrapped my legs around his waist.

I was still angry, and that emotion came through in my kiss. I clutched him to me as he moved with me in his arms. I felt my back hit the wall and his hands leave my ass. I let go of his mouth to catch my breath and leaned down and bit his neck. I heard him hiss right before I licked the spot my teeth had marked.

“I have to fuck you know, Terra. Now.”

  “Yeah. Fuck me now, Kale.”

I felt his hand clutch my panties and then heard a rip as the sides bit into my legs. Just a second later, Kale grunted as he filled me up. He pulled back and slammed into me again. I felt one of his arms pull at my knee and then he had my leg over his arm as he pulled out and slammed into me again.

I put my head back and it hit the wall as he plunged into me over and over again. One of my legs clutched around his waist and the other was held up by his arm. I was stretched out, open to him, and he was taking full advantage of it. Every time he plunged his cock into me, he swiveled his hips just a little to rub on my clit.

All of the sensations were overwhelming. The sounds Kale was making as he slammed his body into mine, our heavy breathing and moans, along with how I was stretched out in front of him was almost too much for me to take.

I could tell that he was close by the rapid breathing and the grunt that he let out every time our bodies slapped together. I reached down between us and put my hand on my clit, rubbing furiously in time with his thrusts.

“So good, baby. So good.” Kale murmured in my ear. “I love you so fucking much, Terra.”

As soon as the words were out of his mouth he thrust into me one last time and I felt my orgasm fly as his cock twitched inside me. He groaned loudly as my spasms milked every last drop from him. He slid in and out once or twice more until the sensation got to be too much for me and I pushed at his chest.

He slowly lowered my body down until my foot touched the floor, my other leg still slung over his arm. We were still connected for one last second before he took a step back and let my leg go.

“That was...” I tried to control my breathing. “That was different.”

“Angry sex. Wall sex. A twofer.” Kale leaned down and nibbled my lower lip with his teeth. “Don’t bean me with a pan, okay?”

“I might but I need to go clean up first.” I looked down and saw that he was still hanging out of his pants. “Might want to tuck that in.”

He chuckled and reached down to adjust himself back into his pants.

“Go clean up and meet me on the porch. We’ll start this again, but I promise to be rational this time.”

“And no stomping!” I heard Kale laugh behind me as I walked through the living room. “You owe me a pair of panties!”

  O=O=O

  KALE

I sat down in the porch swing and sipped my fresh cup of coffee while I waited on Terra to come back out to talk.

  She loves me. Holy shit.

Since the day I brought her home and asked her to move in with me, I had been feeling the same way, I just didn’t know how to say it. I had never in my life been in love with a woman and it was scary as hell.

After the shooting in the garage all I could think about was what would happen if she was hurt. How in the hell would I survive if I lost her? The thought of living without her scared me even more than knowing I was in love for the first time.

I wanted her to go to the clubhouse so that she could be safe. She refused for some damn reason, and I was pretty sure it was just to spite me. I needed to figure out a way to convince her, without losing my temper and stomping around.

I heard her walking through the kitchen, talking, probably to one of the birds. After a minute or so she came outside wearing her t-shirt, but this time she had on a pair of pajama pants covering her long legs. She had Scarlett on her shoulder and Merlin on one hand, her coffee mug in her other hand. She walked over to the rope swing in the corner and let the birds move off to get settled. She sat on the other end of the swing but turned so that she was facing me, and her bent legs were taking up the space between us.

“Let’s try this again.” She held her coffee mug in both hands and sat it on her knees in front of her. “And we’ll both be calm.”

“Yes. You know what I want, but I want you to tell me why you aren’t okay with it.”

“I don’t want to be forced to stay at the clubhouse with the concrete floors and the small beds. It smells like swamp ass and beer in there. The showers are little, the water pressure sucks, the rooms are tiny. All that’s missing is some razor wire and a guard shack.”

I pressed my lips together and nodded my head.

“Fuck. I’m sorry, babe. I never even thought of that.”

“Well, I didn’t really explain myself very well either. I just flat out refused.”

“I want you to be safe.”

  “I want to be free.”

“If your dead it doesn’t matter how free you are.”

“Then don’t let someone kill me. Simple as that.”

I put my head back and kept my mouth shut. For a few minutes the only sound in the room was the squeak of the porch swing as I moved it with my foot.

“So, I love you.” She straightened out her leg and pushed her foot against my thigh. “What do you think about that?”

“It scares the holy fuck out of me. But, I love you too, so there’s that.”

  “Why does that scare you?”

“Look at what happened the other night, Terra. At my own house, no less. We knew to be looking out but didn’t know it would happen so fast. Then, Jenna’s calling me, and I can hear gunshots before she screams John’s name and drops the fucking phone.” I looked over at Terra, hoping she could see in my face what that phone call made me feel like. “I didn’t know if you were dead or alive, if my sister was safe, if my friends were dead. I had no idea. Then I get there, and you’ve gone all nature girl throwing shit at the bad guys when you should have been hiding somewhere bullet proof. When you shouldn’t have even been there at all.”

“That would have happened, and probably with worse results, if it had been you and me driving into that garage. If you were pinned down and someone was shooting at you, do you think I would cower behind you? No. I wouldn’t. I’d be right there beside you doing what I have to do to keep you just as safe as you want to keep me.”

“This life is not for everyone. I was born into it. Raised to live it. You just fell into it and I couldn’t let you go so now you’re stuck with it.”

“There are quite a few things in that last sentence there that very well might get you smothered in your sleep, big guy, so let’s talk that through. I fell into it? What, like I tripped and boom I’m in love with a biker who people try to kill? No, I met a guy, turns out he’s damn good looking and fucks me into oblivion more than once every day. I’m kind of in love with him, so that’s the only falling into anything I’ve done lately. You couldn’t let me go. Well, good. I’m glad you couldn’t. And now, I’m stuck with it.” Terra put her hand out until I reached out to take it. “You’re stuck with me because I love you, I’m stuck with you because you love me right back.”
