Miranda said, “Rats.” After a pause, she added, “I kind of wanted to keep going. Did I make it outside?”

Stevie laughed and pointed at the big wet spot on the balcony, and Miranda leaned her head to take a look.

She said, “So, not in the room?”

I said, “No. We made it outside.”

Miranda said, “I can kind of hold it back for a while, but eventually, well, I can’t.”

I said, “Sweetie, do you really want to keep going?”

  She said, “Kind of.”

I said, “Well, let’s go get in the shower. We need to wash up before the play.”

Miranda pushed herself out of the chair, and we started for the bathroom. She said, “I don’t know if standing up will work, though. I’m like a noodle.”

Stevie said, “We’ll work something out.”

We made it to the oversized shower, and there was plenty of room. We started by soaping up and washing, but soon, Stevie had pushed both Miranda and me with our backs to the wall and her standing in front of us with one hand on my shaft and the other between Miranda’s thighs jacking both of us off at the same time. Miranda and I responded by putting one of my hands on Stevie’s ass, rubbing her crack and the other tickling her clit with my thumb and two fingers inside her while Miranda did her best to play with Stevie’s tits. The girls both climaxed at least twice, and then the two of them watched each other give me a double hand job that had me cumming before we were finished. We washed again, this time wholly sated, and I asked shyly, “Um, girls, do you do that often?”

  Miranda said, “Do what?”

  Stevie said, “Fiddle each other?”

Miranda laughed and said, “No. We never did that before. I don’t think it ever occurred to me.”

Stevie said, “It occurred to me, but I never thought we would unless we never found a guy.”

Miranda said, “You did? I mean, It did? You wanted to shower with me like this?”

  Stevie said, “Kind of.”

Miranda said, “Jake, Sweetie, how did you feel about it?”

I said, “I liked it. I loved it. Not the two of you specifically, but I loved having Stevie make love to both of us like that. And making love to her together. Um, I guess I don’t mind if you want to, you know...”

Miranda said, “Um, so... if we were traveling and you weren’t with us, we could... get frisky, to relieve our tension? I’d be thinking about you the whole time.”

I said, “You know what? I’d rather you don’t. Not the whole time. If you are going to make love with Stevie, I’d want you to be thinking about her more than me.”

Stevie said, “Wow! That’s really sweet! I don’t know how I feel about it, but I feel really loved that you are OK with it and want me to be loved even if you aren’t there.”

Miranda grinned wickedly and said, “Oh? You don’t know how you feel about it? Be honest, Wet Weasel.”

Stevie was stepping out of the shower to grab towels for us as she smiled and said, “Honestly? Yeah, that’s totally going to happen. Especially if Jake isn’t here, and we are both missing him, I’m going to be all over you. If possible, I’ll have him on a video conference, watching him masturbate with us. Ooh!”

Miranda, taking a towel and starting to dry off, said, “What?”

Stevie said, “I forgot about Andie! If you and I are making love with Jake remotely, he can be fucking Andie while I...”

  Miranda said, “While you what?”

Stevie said, “While I lick your pussy!”

  Miranda said, “Stevie!”

Stevie said, “What? Jake said it’s OK, right?”

Miranda said, “He didn’t say you could lick my pussy.”

Stevie said, “It was implied. Miranda, I totally sucked Jake’s cock, and it was so wet from you, and it tasted so good! Yeah, I bet if we get started, I’ll be more than willing to eat you, and the camera will be pointing at my ass so that Jake can see me convulsing as I cum. Hell, let’s do it right now. Go jump on the bed.”

Miranda exclaimed, “Stevie! You tart! You don’t really mean that. Jake, she likes talking dirty now and then when we masturbate and fantasize. She doesn’t mean it.”

Stevie laughed and said, “Maybe not. But truthfully, I don’t know. It was really hot watching you two and just now in the shower. Maybe something has been awakened in me.”

Miranda used the towel on her hair and said, “Well, put it back to sleep. For now, anyway,” and she winked at Stevie and me.

As we finished drying and started to get dressed, more sexually exhausted than our teasing let on, I really wasn’t opposed to the girls having some sexual activity without me. Or with me. As long as it was just them–it had to be in the family, of course. I was happy to be reminded that Stevie and Miranda included Andie in that family. Yeah, if the girls were out of town, I could imagine some remote fun, and even me and Andie having fun on one end with Miranda and Stevie on the other. Yeah, this was going to work. For now, at least.

We had time for dinner before the play. We got to the little pop-up restaurant that shared a space with the coffee shop just as they opened and got seated on the porch under the heaters. The three of us shared two meals, the fresh fish and the traditional Irish daily special. We didn’t have time to linger over one of the desserts, but we didn’t really want one. The play was fun. Yeah, it was amateurs, but they were good amateurs. The audience was good, too, laughing and applauding at the right places. It wasn’t a classical melodrama, but there was a bit of booing when a villain appeared. When it was over, we were ready to be back in our room for the night.

Miranda and I hadn’t waited till we were “Married,” but I don’t think it mattered to any of us anymore. Tomorrow, Stevie’s dad would perform a ceremony, we would exchange rings, and we would make some public vows. But nothing would change. We were going to live like this no matter what now. All three of us. And if we could have our way, we would add Andie as a fourth. It was our reality. Miranda and Stevie were my wife. Not wives–wife. They were marrying me as one. I knew that it could be argued differently, but for us, it was like a corporate entity. A corporation is its own entity. A semi-person in its own right. It paid taxes as one entity. It had bank accounts and a name of its own. It entered into legal contracts as a single entity. For us, it was like that. Miranda and Stevie, and possibly Andie, were a collective being. And I was marrying that collective. In fact, Miranda and Stevie had already formed a contractual entity when they agreed to have one husband. They had formed a contractual entity with Andie as well. Yes, I could technically refuse to do it this way, but they had chosen to marry as one entity, and it was working for us. When I fell in love with Miranda, I had to take the package. I wanted to take the package instead of busting it up. But it was essential to my thinking that I was the husband of that combined collective, not three individual women. And people could argue it however they wanted to because we saw it that way and didn’t care.

My will would leave everything to a combined trust with the girls as the trustees. Theirs would do the same. We would have a family trust to hold our assets in joint ownership. If it all went to hell someday, we’d deal with the fallout then, not now.

We slept well. The three of us in one bed. Naked and next to each other, me in the middle. Sandwiched by the love of my life.

  Chapter 28 Commitment

We were supposed to meet the parents at two. They would call us if they got to town early. The three of us didn’t want much breakfast. I think we were all excited and nervous. Taking showers as we got up, one at a time, but occasionally joined by a second, and getting out when we were done washing, we got ready to go out. The morning was cool, and the girls opted for pants and jackets. They would change into dresses for the ceremony.

We walked down the steep driveway and across the street to the coffee shop that had served as a restaurant for dinner last night. Lattes and muffins. This morning we sat inside. The place was small, but you could seat about a dozen people at the two small tables plus two larger corner tables. There wasn’t much to do but to talk about what had happened the night before, specifically the fact that Miranda and I’d had sex for the first time. We kept our voices low. We agreed that it had been fantastic. I didn’t comment on how Miranda hadn’t been at all uncomfortable, despite her virginity, or how much I had been concerned for her, or anything like that. I also didn’t mention how bawdy our talk afterward was and how I was pretty sure that it was because we were all aroused and not because we expected to actually do some of the things we had fantasized about.

Partway through our coffee, Miranda and Stevie got text messages telling them that their folks were on the road in two separate cars. They expected to be in town in plenty of time to meet us as planned.

Back in the room, an hour or so later, the girls wanted to see the clothes that I’d bought. They were a hit. I was treated to an excellent fashion show as they tried on each different pair of undies, the sleepwear, and the shirts. They made me model my underwear and shirts as well. Now that I was wearing underwear a lot less often, for the past week, anyway, I thought that maybe I had bought more than I needed. We were headed into fall and winter soon, and I’d probably wear it more often as it grew colder. Summers here were pleasant, but winters could get cold, and we did get rain almost every day from September until the end of June. Warm weather didn’t start until after the fourth of July, most years.

This year had been different, and we’d had more days over 90 and 100 than at any time in history. And more days without rain than ever before as well. But weather changes. Next year would be different.

When the fashion show was over, we sat around in our underwear, huddled together on the sofa under a blanket, watching episodes of the TV show Friends.

Shortly before noon, Miranda’s phone rang. It was Palmer and Perry, her folks. They were in town, at the public parking lot, and Gary and Roz were just a few minutes behind them. They wanted to know if we wanted to meet them all for lunch. We told them we would see them at the place with the patio and fireplaces on the main street in about 20 minutes.

The girls left on the underwear that they had on, put on bras for the first time in days, and pulled on nice but casual dresses and sandals. They had sweaters to wear over them for warmth if needed. We parked and found Palmer and his wife waiting for us, right on time.

I was introduced to Mrs. Weitman, and of course, I already knew Luke.

Leaning close to Luke, I whispered, “Laura is coming, right?”

He said very quietly, “Yeah, I guess so. I don’t know. Maybe. Whatever.”

I smiled at the others at the table and said, “Will you excuse Luke and me for a moment. We have some groomsmen stuff to talk about.”

Excusing us, I had Luke follow me out to the street to talk.

I said, “Luke, you want my help?”

He said, “Yeah. With girls and stuff.”

I said, “Yeah. And you love Laura, don’t you?”

  He said, “Yeah, I guess.”

I said, “Cut the crap, Luke. We only have a few minutes. Forget your fears and forget being sure she doesn’t like you that way, and man up and tell me if you love her or not!”

  He said, “I want to.”

I said, “Is she the dream girl you told me about?”

  He said, “Well, yeah.”

I said, “Then here’s what you need to do. When she gets here, stand up, take her hand, tell her hello, and gently, very gently, pull her toward the seat next to you. Make sure she knows you want her to sit next to you.”

He said, “But what if she doesn’t want to sit next to me?”

I said, “Then she’ll pull her hand away and sit somewhere else. When she sits down, keep holding her hand. If you have to let go, or if she does, fine, but try to hold her hand again as soon as you can. If she won’t do it, let it go. Be friendly and don’t try it again. But if she later sets her hand close to yours, go for it again. Be a gentleman, but give her every chance to let you hold her hand. You got that?”

He said, “OK, I can try. I have known her forever, but what if...”

I said, “If she doesn’t want to sit next to you or let you hold her hand, you’ll know. In that case, it wasn’t ever going to go anywhere, and you haven’t made anything worse. If she doesn’t love you by now, she never will. Most likely. Not for a few decades, anyway. If it doesn’t work today, give it up. I’ll help you get to know someone else. But you have to try. You have to let her know that you are available. This is your best chance. Your sister’s wedding. This is your moment. Be a man and take a risk. Show her what kind of a sweet guy you are and how much you like her. And to hell with the consequences if it doesn’t work. But if it does, be prepared to keep going.”

  He said, “Keep going?”

I said, “Yes. If it works, if she sits next to you and holds your hand, come up with a way to keep her with you. Take her shopping. Ask her out to dinner, just the two of you. Buy her some little present. Go for a walk on the beach and make sure you loan her your jacket. Spend time with her. And if necessary, spend time with her and Miranda, Stevie, and me. Not your parents. Let them have dinner by themselves, but you and Laura need to be alone or with us. Any more questions? I’ll coach you all I can, but you have to be brave and kind and generous on your own.”

  Luke said, “OK.”

That was it. OK. I don’t know why I expected more than that. They were young, but they had something most kids didn’t: parents who wanted to help them, and me, Miranda, and Stevie, all committed to seeing them succeed. The dads were already planning how they could make their first year easy if they ended up getting together. OK?

Luke and I hurried back to the table. It was important that we get there before Laura. He couldn’t gently pull her to sit beside him if she were already seated. Unfortunately, the Greys were just walking up as Luke and I started into the restaurant.

I said, “Gary, it’s good to see you!”

Gary said, “Hello, Son. This is Stevie’s mom, Roz.”

I held out my hand and demonstrated how Luke should take Laura’s when he had the chance, and said, “It’s so nice to meet you. The others are on the patio already. Thank you so much for coming. This means a lot to me.”

Roz gave me a hug and then kissed me on the cheek. She didn’t let go of my hand, and I didn’t try to make her. Lingering a moment, as if all of us were waiting for Luke and Laura to say something, we waited.

Luke reached for Laura’s hand and said, “Hi, Laura. It’s really good to see you. Um, you look really nice. Do you want to sit with me?”

Laura smiled and surprised Luke by kissing him on the cheek, the same way her mother had kissed me, and let him lead her to the table, holding hands as they went. Roz looped her arm through mine and let me do the same.

  She whispered, “I like you.”

I gave her a quizzical look, and she said, “Luke didn’t come up with that on his own.”

I said, “And I liked how you modeled the kiss on the cheek for your daughter. Did you guys talk about it beforehand?”

Gary said, “They did. We feel good about moving this thing along. Palmer is a good man, but maybe not as forthright with Luke about love as the boy needs. It looks like you have him well in hand. Good man, Son.”

We joined the others at the table and ordered lunch. Laura sat close to Luke, and it looked like they were still holding hands under the table.

When I had the chance, I said, “Laura, it’s really nice to meet you. I’ve really only heard about you from Luke so far. I’d like to hear what you think of me marrying your sister and talk about whatever you want to about that. I know it is sudden... and different.”

Laura looked serious and said, “No, I knew all about it. Her deal with Buzzy.”

Roz jumped in and said, “Remember, sweetie, it’s Miranda, not Buzzy.”

Laura said, “Oh yeah, Sorry, Buzz. Anyway, I knew all about their deal.”

Palmer asked, “What deal was that?”

Miranda said, “Oh, just a girl thing, Dad. Stuff we talked about when Laura came and stayed with us sometimes. You know, girl stuff.”

Laura said, “So, I was surprised, but it makes sense. If it works, that will be cool. If not, Stevie and... Miranda... will kick your butt to the curb, and we’ll all hate you forever.”

  Roz gasped, “Laura!”

I laughed and said, “No, she’s right. That’s what I want to hear from her. But Laura, can you and I make a deal?”

Laura said suspiciously, “What kind of deal?”

I said, “I do my best, and you don’t deliberately undermine me unless I turn out to be a jerk. As long as I keep treating your family well, you give me a chance. I’ll look out for you, and you look out for me unless I give you a reason not to.”

She smiled now and said, “Look out for me how?”

I said, “Oh, I don’t. Things like... oh, wait. I wanted to say something first. Laura, you look really pretty today. That is a really nice outfit. But yeah, I’ll never tease you in front of other people in a way that puts you down. And if I ever see a guy mistreating you, he has to answer to me and Luke. Luke’s a good guy. If someone treats you badly, I bet I don’t even get a chance to drive him off because Luke would have done it already.”

  Luke said, “Damn straight!”

I said, “Oh, wait! I keep forgetting stuff. You are Stevie’s bridesmaid! Luke, it’s going to be a minute before lunch gets here, do something for me. Run next door to the market and buy a small bouquet of flowers for Laura, OK?”

Luke looked around the table, and his father, Palmer, nodded in the direction of the store. Perry, his mother, said, “Yes, Laura needs some flowers! Hurry and come back before the food comes.”

Luke gave Laura a quick look and asked if she wanted to come with him.

  I said, “Dude, go!”

Luke left quickly to walk across the parking lot.

When he was gone, Laura said, “I see what you are doing.”

I said, “And how do you feel about it?”

Stevie said, “Laura, we have a rule that we try to be as honest as we can with Jake. Tell him the truth.”
