Sarah knew that her family would be expecting her to return home during the time that the fort was closed for the holidays and that was something that would be rather difficult, especially when it came to the fact that she was preparing to find out about the artifacts that had been glowing and the things that Jeremiah had told her throughout the time that certain things were taking place. This had given Sarah a certain amount of time to make the suggestion that she work with Jeremiah during the amount of time that he was staying at work after everyone else had left so that he could have whatever help that he needed when it came to cleaning all of these glass cases where the artifacts were being protected. She was sure that her boss would eventually agree to these things knowing that there were so many cases that would need to be wiped down and get rid of whatever fingerprints that were on these cases from kids and their parents touching the glass to show people certain things that they had noticed during that time. There was also the fact that during the time that the Willett Building was preparing to close for the night that certain things would often have to be turned off, and this had included the different areas where there were short movies being shown that had told about the different things that had taken place during the time that there had been soldiers stationed at the fort during the time that the war was being fought. This was something that each of the workers would be shown in case there was a moment where they would be expected to do any kind of cleaning throughout the different times of the day. This had included cleaning the visiting areas or even the bathrooms when things had seemed to be rather quiet and nobody was around for them to talk to about certain things or even answering the questions that children and adults might have throughout the day. Questions that they had been thinking about during the time that they were looking at the different artifacts that had been telling the story of the Revolutionary War for the longest time. Jeremiah had always seemed to have the same interest in the different things that they were always attempting to teach so many different people and in this case each of the things that he had been interested in had something to do with all of the artifacts that were in this visitors center and the reason that all of these artifacts had been needed throughout that entire time. Either way, Sarah and Jeremiah had learned so many different things, and that was all before they had started becoming interested in another place that would prove to have some interesting exhibits that had seemed to deal with the fort and the different things that had happened there during the time that each of the soldiers and their families were waiting to join the fighting that would eventually be taking place after certain things had taken place at the fort. Sarah had often felt that the local historical society should have become part of the fort every time that there was some kind of a new exhibit that had told part of the story that had something to do with Fort Stanwix and the other Revolutionary War forts that were in different cities within the state of New York. She knew that there was one fort that was not really as big as the one that she was currently working at that had been part of a museum called The Erie Canal Village, and just like Fort Stanwix this place had seemed to bring history alive so that they could teach children and their parents about a particular time in American History. Of course, there had not been very many people that would visit this particular part of the city of Rome unless they were interested in the different things that had caused this city to become the big part of American History that it eventually was. Over the years there were different things that had taken place and both places had eventually had some part of the story that they would be telling, but there had obviously been certain places that people had been more interested in when it came to learning about all of these things at a particular time. Schools that would often bring their students to The Erie Canal Village would also take the time to stop at Fort Stanwix depending on the part of history that they were often teaching their kids about. Over the last few years, however, all of these things had definitely seemed to be changing and it was Sarah that had noticed the increase in the amount of people that were often coming to the fort so that they could learn about the things that the soldiers were often going through at different times. Either way, Sarah was determined to do whatever she possibly could to do the things that she had always done when it came to the job that she was currently doing at different times throughout the day.
Around the time that Sarah had been doing everything that she could to keep things under control during the time that she was working, there was someone working hundreds of miles away who had found herself thinking about the different things that she had gone through when she had been working with her best friend. Eliza had known that she had left Sarah to handle whatever was left to deal with when it came to the holiday open house that Fort Stanwix had been having during that time, but she had honestly felt that this was something that could not be helped after she had learned certain things about Sarah and Jeremiah. Their current relationship had been part of the reason that Eliza had felt that she had to be transferred, especially once she had considered the fact that they both had fallen for the same guy that they had been working with throughout that entire time. The minute that Eliza had started working at Fort Ontario she had found out that there were several things that she would have to learn before she was able to do certain things at the new place where she was working. For several days Eliza had noticed that Fort Ontario was slightly bigger than Fort Stanwix but it had seemed that things were definitely a bit different depending on the way that you were seeing certain things throughout the entire time that she had been getting used to working at this particular fort. In her own ways, Eliza had wished that she was still working with Sarah and Jeremiah, but she knew that in some ways this was something that could not happen. At least not right away and she knew that they were probably thinking about her during the time that they were working just like she had been thinking about them during the time that she was working. Eliza knew that she had wanted to be around her best friend during the time that they were working but that was something that would not be happening throughout the entire time that she was adjusting to working at Fort Ontario. Eliza knew that there would eventually be a time when she would be returning home to where her parents were currently living and during that time she would at least be able to spend time with her closest and dearest friends, and that had included Sarah who was probably missing everything that they would be doing throughout that entire time. Until that happened Eliza knew that she would have to deal with talking to Sarah about certain things during those hours that they would no longer be working and dealing with everything that would be taking place at the different places where they would be working.
During the times that Eliza and Sarah would be on the phone talking about the different things that were happening since the day that she had left Fort Stanwix and the day that Jeremiah had learned what had happened that had been causing the mysterious glowing that had been around the different artifacts that had been part of the history that had everything to do with Fort Stanwix and the things that had eventually taken place throughout that entire time. Sarah had noticed that Eliza was always interested in the different things that Sarah had found out about the fort and the reason that certain things had been taking place. Regardless of the things that were taking place throughout the entire time that they had found themselves talking about Jeremiah and the reason that certain things had eventually taken place. Sarah knew that there were different reasons that Eliza had made the decision that she did and now it was going to take quite some time before her best friend was going to be able to come home. At least that was what it had seemed like during that particular time.
Every time that Sarah and Eliza would be talking about the things that were happening at the different forts that they were working at, Sarah had found herself staying rather quiet when it came to talking to Jeremiah about the reasons that Eliza had told her that she had felt that she had absolutely no choice when it came to leaving and getting transferred to the fort that she was currently working at throughout that entire time. Even when Eliza had not been there throughout the entire time that certain things would be happening it would be rather obvious that she would want to do just about anything that she possibly could to return to the fort and start helping out everywhere that she had during the time that they had all been working together. Eliza had not wanted to make people think that she could not be as reliable as she was during the short time that she had been working at Fort Stanwix and Fort Ontario, but there was just that part of her that had missed working with her best friend and talking about the different things that had happened throughout that entire time that certain things had eventually been taking place. No matter what Eliza had told Sarah during that time it was becoming increasingly obvious that they would be doing whatever they could to spend time together and that had included making the long trip to the different places where they were living after certain things had obviously taken place. By the time Monday morning had come around Sarah had been starting to look at things very differently. Her relationship with Jeremiah had definitely seemed to be getting better since the Thanksgiving holidays when he had seemed to get rather upset about the fact that she would not be returning to her apartment until the weekend after the holiday had taken place, and even then he had not stopped to think about the fact that he would be able to call her at different times throughout the day when she was spending that time with her parents and other members of her family. Eliza had heard about all of these things during the call that she had made to catch up with her best friend, and even then she had started to wonder if Jeremiah had realized that this increasing amount of jealousy was something that he needed to grow out of if he had wanted this relationship with Sarah to honestly continue in the way that it had before this holiday had even started. In her own way, Eliza had hoped that she would be able to help Sarah with the things that were eventually happening, especially since it was obvious that Jeremiah had not seemed to understand the reason that so many of these things had seemed to be rather important. Sarah had known that Jeremiah was wanting to find out a bit more information about the reason that certain things had been taking place, but at the same time he had seemed to realize that neither of them would get the opportunity to stay at the fort or even in the Willett Building until sometime after the holidays were officially over and everything had started to go on as normal as could honestly be expected throughout that entire time. Sarah had honestly hoped that by the time that Christmas was over and the new year had officially started that Eliza would be able to figure out a way to start working at Fort Stanwix again and everything would eventually turn out to be relatively normal between her and her best friend after the hell that they had each been through during that time. All that Sarah could honestly hope for during that time was that her best friend would see how hard all of these things were during the time that she had decided that she was going to leave. Either way, Sarah and Eliza both knew that their friendship had gone through quite a bit and there was absolutely nothing that would change any of these things after Eliza had finally decided that she would do whatever she could in order to return to her friends and family. Family that had obviously missed her since the day that she had made the long trip to where she would be working for a few months into the year after certain things had eventually taken place. Things that even Eliza knew would prove to be rather important right from the very beginning.
Flashback
Elizabeth had known that there were several reasons that her mother had not wanted to permit her to do some of the same things that the other young girls her age were allowed to do during the time that they were staying at the fort doing whatever they could to help with the chores that had always needed to be dealt with while the men in the family had always been doing everything that they could to prepare for the fighting that would be happening in different colonies. Most of the women that had been staying at the fort had seemed to realize that their help would definitely be needed in a variety of different ways and that had included doing the laundry and the mending that was always piling up throughout that entire time. Most of the time Elizabeth had watched as her mother and older siblings had been doing everything that they could to help with the things that were happening at the fort throughout that entire time. At different times Elizabeth had watched as many of these women were going into the fort and helping out by becoming a nurse that would be needed for those soldiers that had either gotten sick or had been wounded at different times when they had been defending the fort throughout the time that the war was being fought. Elizabeth had heard so many different stories about the things that her father had ended up doing after he had enlisted in the continental army and the different things that had happened after many of the women that had been staying just outside of the fort had started becoming the nurses that were eventually needed during the time that many of these soldiers had needed during the time that they were dealing with all of these injuries and illnesses that were happening at different times. Elizabeth’s mother had been one of the many women that would do whatever she could to help take care of the sick and injured and then would return to the small area where their family had been staying in teepees and tents where she would be helping with whatever laundry and mending would have to be done on top of making sure that things went smoothly for those soldiers that were doing everything that they could to prepare for the time that they would be joining in with the fighting that was honestly taking place in many of the colonies. Elizabeth had not realized how much trouble had been starting for the men and boys that were enlisted in the army or even what would be happening during the time that they would find themselves having to stand guard in the hopes that all of the supplies that were at the fort would be kept safe. This had caused many of the soldiers to become targets for the British soldiers that were out there and Elizabeth had seemed to understand this in many ways, despite the fact that she was the youngest out of the kids that were staying at the fort during that particular time. Elizabeth had always worried about her father during that time, especially since there had been things happening that had led to more soldiers being stationed on each of the walls standing guard just the way that so many other soldiers had been doing throughout that entire time. There had been so many different things happening during that time that Elizabeth and the other members of her family had started to realize that if they were not entirely careful there would be things happening that would cause bigger problems than any of them had honestly been expecting throughout that entire time. Either way, Elizabeth knew that the minute her mother had found out about where Elizabeth had been spending her time that she would definitely be doing whatever she could to get her to understand the things that had caused her to feel the way that she did about the woods that had surrounded the fort. There had been several times that Elizabeth had noticed that her older siblings had been wandering through the woods after their mother had told each of them that she had not wanted them doing anything during the time that they were at the fort other than the things that they were usually doing when it came to certain chores that they were expected to be doing at different times.
Throughout the times that there had been certain things that were supposed to be happening and that had included the different things that her older siblings had been doing when it came to gathering the wood that would be needed during the time that the women were doing all of the washing and cooking that would be needed for the members of their families and during the time that that they were doing these things for the different soldiers that were stationed at the fort. Numerous times Elizabeth had heard about the different Indian attacks that had taken place during the time that she was staying at the fort with her family knowing that sooner or later she would end up hearing about the things that she had never wanted to hear during that entire time. Some of the soldiers had mentioned these things to the women that were often spending their time working as a nurse and making sure that the medical supplies were being taken care of as well as making sure that all of the tools that the doctor would have to use for a variety of different reasons had been cleaned and ready for whatever things would be taking place after certain things had happened over the years that the soldiers would be stationed at the fort.[2] Either way, there was always something that happened that Elizabeth had found herself hearing about during the time that her father was waiting to join the fighting that was happening in so many different places that would help them get the freedom that they had all desperately needed throughout that entire time. There had been so many things that Elizabeth had remained quiet about during the time that she was spending time with her older siblings and the other kids that were at the fort, and one of these things had been the fact that her older siblings had wanted to enlist when they thought that their mother had not been paying attention despite the fact that their father had refused to let them enlist during the time that he would be stationed at the fort knowing that he was fighting for his own family as well as so many others that were out there in the world wanting the same things that so many other families had wanted from the moment that all of this talking had officially started during the first year that he was at the fort with so many other soldiers that were fighting for the exact same reasons.
It had been several years since Elizabeth and her family had been staying at the fort before they had found out that all of the soldiers that were stationed at the fort during the duration of the war were going to be joining all of the fighting after everything that had been taking place when their supplies had eventually been dwindling down to practically nothing. Elizabeth had heard from her brothers that help was on the way and that everybody that was at the fort was supposed to be joining forces with other soldiers that were fighting in all of the other colonies that had been helping with the fighting for the freedom that everyone had honestly wanted at different times. Elizabeth had not known what would happen when it came to the places where her mother and the rest of her family would eventually find themselves staying. She knew that eventually her brothers were going to insist on helping with the fighting once everything else had been settled and her mother had eventually returned to the cabin where they all had been living right from the very beginning. When Elizabeth had heard the things that her father had talked about after they had left the fort so that they would be able to join the fighting that would be taking place, it had seemed that there were other things happening that many of the soldiers were never expecting. Eventually Elizabeth and her family had decided that they would follow her father so that the soldiers would have the nurses that they would need and the help that they had eventually needed after certain things had taken place until the war was over. A war that had taken years to be fought and years to end throughout that entire time that many of these things were happening to help everyone eventually live in freedom. Freedom that they had fought for ever since the beginning when all of these things had officially started.
