As the month of December had continued to throw all kinds of winter weather at Sarah and the many other people in the city of Rome it had seemed that there were many things happening that had led to Jeremiah figuring out the different reasons that he had wanted to deal with the mysterious glowing that had been happening with each of the artifacts that had been in the Willett Building and the glass cases that had been protecting each of these artifacts for as long as he could honestly remember. Jeremiah had hoped that Sarah would be helping him find out about all of these things, but at the same time Sarah had seemed to be concentrating on a variety of other things and that had included spending her time studying about other things that had happened when she had first gotten the job that she had currently been working on throughout that entire time. Either way, Jeremiah was sure that this was something that he was going to be doing completely on his own, at least that was what it had seemed like throughout the entire time that he had first found out about the reason that this glowing had first started long before Eliza had made the decision that she would be leaving before all of the excitement had eventually taken place. Jeremiah had absolutely no way of knowing that Eliza would be returning and when she did everything would be returning to the way it had been before she had eventually asked to be transferred. He knew that Sarah had hoped that certain things would eventually start happening and it was because of these things that there had seemed to be an even bigger strain on their relationship than he had ever expected.

Throughout the majority of the winter months it had seemed that Jeremiah had refused to see things in the same way that Sarah had often seen most of the things that were eventually happening. Sarah had tried on a number of different occasions to explain to Jeremiah the reason that she had honestly felt the way that she did, but he had never seemed to want to realize the real reason that Eliza had upset her after she had decided to transfer to a different museum knowing that it would cause bigger problems when nobody was honestly expecting it to happen. Sarah was pretty sure that there would be a time when Eliza would be asking about these things, and when she did there was no way of knowing exactly how she would take the news that Jeremiah and Sarah had been having their own struggles since she had spent the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with her parents and had refused to return for a few days after these holidays had eventually been joyously celebrated. Sarah’s parents had started to adjust to certain things that were happening which had included the fact that she was going to continue working at Fort Stanwix no matter how much they had seemed to want her to quit after everything she had gone through with losing one of her friends and the fighting she had gone through with Jeremiah since she had spent the holidays with her family. Sarah had honestly hoped that Jeremiah would start to realize that he was being incredibly selfish and that Sarah had needed her family as much as he had honestly needed his throughout that entire time.

By the time that the new year had officially started things had seemed to get rather quiet at the fort. There had been many people who had never seemed to want to venture out long enough to spend time at the different historical museums or monuments that were out there simply because of the bitterly cold weather. Weather that had seemed to stick around for months before it had started to warm up showing the direct signs of the spring season. Sarah knew that it was often during those springtime months that the fort would be preparing to open back up and the workers that had worked throughout the winter in the Willett Building would be preparing for those times when the school age students would be coming to the fort for that field trip that would be helping them to learn whatever they could about the American Revolution and the hell that the soldiers and their families had seemed to go through during that entire time. Either way, Sarah knew that this was something that she would have to be prepared for, even if Jeremiah had seemed to be more fascinated by something else that had been happening for a rather long period of time. A period of time that he had spent thinking about the artifacts and the mysterious glowing that had been happening around them after he had started working at the fort.

That Monday Sarah had returned to work and had found herself getting the biggest surprise of her life, and for the first time it had absolutely nothing to do with Jeremiah and the endless jealousy that he had seemed to be feeling over the past few months. Even though there had been times that she had talked to Eliza about returning from where she was currently working at Fort Ontario, it had seemed that this was something that would not be happening right away. Little did Sarah realize that Eliza was already making a variety of plans to return and the minute that she did she was hoping that she would be able to get her old job back. She knew that she had left everything in a way that had left them short handed and sooner or later something would happen where they would be asking her to come back and help them get through their busiest season of the entire year. Springtime was always one of those times when things had been extremely busy at Fort Stanwix. This year things had not been any different. Everyone had been doing whatever they could to clean up from the mess that the winter season had left and that had included making any repairs that had become increasingly obvious once the springtime weather had melted the winter snow. Long before the fort could officially open its doors to the public again, these repairs would have to be dealt with. Sarah knew that this was usually where most of the rangers that had some kind of background in carpentry would see to it that these repairs had been done and then things would start to get back to normal. At least that was honestly what many people had been expecting throughout that entire time.

When most of the repairs had been started it had seemed to be during the months of February and March despite the cold and unpredictable weather. Sarah had known that once these repairs had been dealt with that there would be a variety of different things happening the minute that Sarah and the other rangers were told that the fort was officially ready for the things that they had all been preparing for during that time. Throughout those last few months when Jeremiah had found himself helping do whatever repairs that had taken place throughout the majority of the winter months, Sarah had found herself thinking about the different things that she had gone through after Eliza had left and claimed that she would no longer be returning unless it had been out of desperation. Sarah could understand the reason that Eliza had felt in the way that she did, and in her own way she hoped that someday Jeremiah would understand these things as well. Throughout the entire time that Jeremiah had been working on the repairs that the fort had needed Sarah had found herself thinking about everything that they would eventually have to deal with regardless of the amount of jealousy that Jeremiah had felt during the time that she had spent with her parents and other members of her close family. Jeremiah would often be extremely tired when he had gotten home from work and even then he would often think about certain things that had happened throughout the entire day when Sarah was kept busy at the Willett Building. Jeremiah had been unable to keep from thinking about the glowing that had been happening when it came to the artifacts. Jeremiah knew that it would be a rather short period of time before Sarah had learned exactly what this glowing had always caused, and once that happened he knew that it would be a miracle if she had not started asking all kinds of questions that would have to do with everything that she had eventually witnessed throughout that entire time. Questions that not only had to do with these artifacts but what was causing this mysterious glow that he had learned about right from the very beginning.

The next morning when Jeremiah had gone to work he had noticed that Sarah was looking around the Willett Building lost in complete thought. He knew that there had been those times when she would stay at work later than they were honestly supposed to be doing. She had often taken over certain things which had included making sure that the glass cases had been properly cleaned and would almost sparkle in the morning sunlight. It was obvious that something had happened to cause Sarah to look like she had seen a ghost, but the question had remained as to what this could have been. Whatever it was, Jeremiah was sure that Sarah would talk to him about it once the work day had been completely over. At least that was what he had honestly hoped would be happening the minute she realized that he had known about these things for the longest time. Either way, Jeremiah knew that something would have to be happening before Sarah had become the mess that he was currently witnessing from the moment that he had walked through the double doors that had led to the small area where the bookstore had been that had housed the many books that had been written about the fort and about the war that so many people had been interested in throughout that entire time. Sarah had watched as the people coming to the fort would explore the fort and the Willett Building where they would often buy the different souvenirs that would give them the chance to remember the trip that they had taken to the fort. In many different ways Sarah had wished that there had been something of this nature when she had taken the field trip to the fort, but this was something that had to be planned in so many different ways. Now that these things were happening Sarah knew that it was time for her to prepare for whatever would be happening throughout those spring and summer months. Months that she would spend away from Jeremiah other than the times that they would be forced to work together for a number of different reasons.

  Chapter 7: Summertime Fireworks

For several months Sarah had found herself thinking about Jeremiah and everything that had happened since the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. The fact that Jeremiah had felt rather jealous about certain things that had been happening during the time that Sarah had been hoping to have her best friend return and spend time working with her in the same way that they had worked together when they had first started working together at Fort Stanwix. Eliza had often told Sarah that she had wanted to return after everything that had eventually taken place, especially after she had found out that Sarah was struggling with a few things with her current relationship. Jeremiah had been the one that had caused these things to happen and yet there was that part of him that had started to realize that his jealousy was the reason that Sarah had felt that they had needed to take a break from this relationship. Even his own parents had seemed to realize that his jealousy was getting beyond his control and that he would have to realize that all of this jealousy was going to cause bigger problems if he wasn’t entirely careful. At least that was what it had seemed like during that entire time that Sarah had been out of his life other than the times that they had been working together.

Throughout the entire time that these things were happening Sarah had found herself talking to Eliza hoping that her best friend would be able to help her with all of the things that she had been dealing with during the time that certain things had been taking place. Eliza had known that this was something that Sarah had been struggling with for quite some time and the fact that the fort had officially opened at the end of March was something that would also be on her mind until certain things were going to be happening long before Eliza had made the decision that she was going to be coming back and doing everything that she could to return to Fort Stanwix and help with everything that would be happening with Sarah and the stress that she had been feeling for quite some time. Jeremiah had not really seemed to understand the things that were happening, and even after certain things had taken place it had seemed that Jeremiah was not exactly willing to get rid of the jealousy that he had been feeling every time that something had happened and Sarah was spending time with different members of her family. Family that had never seemed to give Sarah the support that she had always needed after she had gone to visit with them during the holidays. Holidays that had been fun as long as Jeremiah had not been calling her. Sarah had not been upset by these phone calls, at first. Then there were things happening that had started making Sarah realize how bad things were getting because of the endless jealousy that Jeremiah had always seemed to have right from the very beginning. Jealousy that Sarah had no longer wanted to deal with after certain things had taken place.

By the time that Jeremiah had started to realize that it had been his jealousy that had been causing certain things to happen the fort had already been open for a couple of months. They had already gotten several calls from certain schools that were interested in bringing some of their students to the fort to teach them about the different topics that they had been learning about in their history class, especially when it came to the Revolutionary War. Sarah was feeling really excited about the fact that this would be her first chance to work with school age children and help teach them about everything that had happened at the fort during that particular time. Working with Jeremiah had proven to be rather awkward and Sarah knew that there were several people who had noticed all of these things at different times. Jeremiah had still been trying to talk to Sarah about the different things that she had noticed during the hours that she had been working at the fort entirely alone. Sarah had seen things differently and had tried to get Jeremiah to understand everything that she was going through, but something had kept Jeremiah from honestly understanding the truth about how Sarah had been feeling throughout that entire time. Sarah knew that she would have to figure certain things out and that had included the fact that Jeremiah would have to get help with the jealousy he had often been using whenever he was not getting everything that he had wanted since the day that they had started dating and spending time together. Sarah knew that if it was going to take Jeremiah thinking that Sarah was on the verge of ending their relationship then he was bound to realize that he would have to change everything that he had done since their relationship had officially started and Sarah had come close to losing her best friend because of the various things that had taken place during that entire time. Sarah had managed to save that friendship but she was pretty sure that there were certain things that would have happened if Jeremiah had realized how this friendship had started to come to an end because of his increasing jealousy.

By the time May had rolled around Sarah had been helping plan a special event that she had only heard about during the time that she had been attending the local college. The Honor America Days had always been a rather special event that had been started in or around the middle of August that was meant to celebrate the different things that had led to the fighting that had happened at the fort to keep the British from getting their hands on the fort and the land that it had been built on during that time. Sarah had been asked to help plan certain things that were supposed to be taking place for the Honor America Days which was something that she knew was a rather big deal, especially after she had found out that there were things needed for this event that Sarah would eventually be responsible for throughout this entire time. There had been plans for the fireworks display that evening as well as the parade that would take place in the late hours of the morning. Sarah knew that everyone had attended the parade that had started the Honor America Days. Kids loved this special event, never once realizing that it was a celebration of an event that they would learn about at another time. As far as many of these kids were concerned it was about the parade, music, and fireworks. The adults had seen these things as a way of keeping the kids occupied before the start of the new school year. Either way, Sarah knew that this was definitely something that was going to be extremely important, and a part of her had wished that her best friend could have been there to help plan everything that would be taking place from the very beginning. Nobody had realized it but Sarah had found ways of getting the help that she had needed to get these plans off of the ground and make sure that these things had happened in the way that she felt that all of the people in the city would have liked throughout that entire time. Sarah had continued doing all of these things while she had been working at the fort during the daytime hours when she would be helping people understand all of the things that were taking place right from the very beginning. Sarah knew that getting the help that she needed from Eliza was definitely something that she would be doing for the longest time since she knew that this was an event that would have to be extremely special no matter what other people might have believed throughout that entire time.

Eliza had been struggling with everything that she was expected to do during the time that she was working at Fort Ontario, and despite the fact that she was thinking about going back to Fort Stanwix there had been other things that had kept her staying in this area knowing that she would have to see Jeremiah after everything that had happened when she had first met him. Eliza had kept quiet about the reason that she had decided to transfer to Fort Ontario after she had realized that her best friend had developed feelings for the same guy that she had liked from the moment that he had started working with them. Eliza had hoped that things would have worked out for Sarah and Jeremiah after she had left but from the way that Sarah was talking to her about these things it was becoming obvious that their relationship had not been working out in the way that she had eventually hoped that it would throughout that entire time. Either way, Eliza was determined to make sure that she was able to get back to where she used to be working and spending her time with her best friend doing different things that they had loved since they had started school together. Eliza was pretty sure that Jeremiah had never understood any of these things, and until she was able to get back to working at Fort Stanwix there was absolutely nothing that she would be able to do that would help her best friend with the current situation that she was in at this particular moment. That evening Eliza had decided that she would call Sarah and talk to her about the things that she was honestly thinking about doing sometime in the very near future. Eliza had hoped that Sarah would be excited about the things that would eventually be happening after certain things had started to take place. During that time Eliza had hoped that she would be able to help Sarah get her relationship with Jeremiah back on track to where it was before any of these things had been taking place. At least that was what Eliza had hoped would be happening throughout that entire time.
